The 48" UN48H6400 splits the difference between a 46" screen and a 50". It's Samsung's most affordable 3D LED model for 2014, but its appeal isn't limited to 3D fans. Why? Because displaying 3D accurately requires top-notch screen technology. So, even if you don't care about 3D, that capability comes with a bonus: the sharpest, clearest 2D picture you've ever seen.
This model's LED backlight employs Samsung's Micro Dimming technology to produce a more accurate picture. The TV divides the image into multiple areas and applies the correct contrast levels to each area, resulting in a more natural looking picture. This is a high-speed scanning LED backlight, which works with the 120Hz panel refresh rate to minimize motion blur in on-screen action.
The UN48H6400's powerful quad core processor helps you find great things to watch quickly and easily. Samsung's Smart Hub organizes your favorite entertainment into five simple panels: On-TV, Movies and Shows, Social, Apps, and a panel for your personal photos, videos and music. You can actually ask the TV for recommendations while you're watching, like "what movies are on?" You speak into the microphone built into the remote control, which feels more natural than talking to the TV screen. If your PC is networked you can even search through the video and music you've stored on it using the TV's slick touchpad remote.
Samsung's screen mirroring feature turns your compatible smartphone, tablet, or laptop into a second TV. Whatever is playing on the UN48H6400's screen is streamed via Wi-Fi to your mobile device as well. So now you can watch your favorite movies, sports, and shows all around the house.
Reason #1: Awesome picture quality. The LED backlights in these higher-end LCD TVs can give you better picture contrast and more lifelike colors than sets with typical fluorescent backlighting. Reason #2: They're more energy-efficient than plasma or regular LCD TVs, helping you lower your monthly electric bill and helping the environment.
Great addition to the Samsung lineup. The 48" screen fits exactly to the space used by my old 42" plasma set. Great picture, nice smart hub but the set-up features and the small remote leave a lot to be desired. There is no way the remote will work as the only remote you will need for your entertainment. Too few features to make it worth while. The voice function is OK but you better know what commands it understands or nothing happens. As for the set up, when you use the resident "guide" which it gets from your cable provider, it always shows the channel line up starting from channel 2, no matter which channel you're watching. There is no setting to only show HD channels and in my case, there are 500 possible channels I need to scroll through to get from channel 2 (regular viewing" to channel 502, the start of HD from my provider. Overall, I like the television very much. The picture is outstanding and the ability to fit the max picture into an existing builtin cabinet is the best! One last thing. The package comes with 2 pair of 3D glasses. Not the best I've seen but they are included. They don'y fit very well at all if you wear glasses, but that may be the case with all 3D eyewear.
Pros: Bright, sharp picture and decent smart hub.
Cons: Remote is too limited in features and the set up menus of the set are lacking.
Bought this samsung after a lot of research and reading reviews. The picture in my opinion is excellent. It took some time to get it where I wanted but totally enjoy all forms of media on it. I do sometime switch between Natural and Standard picture mode as sometimes Standard is a bit bright. Crank up the Contrast level and the blacks really do come out. I haven't messed with Dynamic mode where you can adjust all manner of settings. I did find some videos on You Tube and what not that show you how to adjust those settings but haven't tried it yet. I have no problem watching this tv in a fairly bright room with little effect on picture. SmartHub functions works well with no serious lag issues which will be dependent on your particular internet connection. I suspect hooking an ethernet cable straight to the TV from your router is the best route to take if you can.
Onc pick is the remote. It gets you 3/4 of the way but not all the way there as far as a universal remote goes. The pointer function is great but haven't found a way to lock it into position, you constantly have to point it to the edge of the tv so it will line up with where you are pointing. Hard to explain but I bet most users will agree with what I am saying. Also you can only add a Blue Ray Player and Receiver to remote functions and have to use the onscreen keyboard function a lot to access certain functions. Just wish it just had more functionality. Overall a good TV. And of course Crutchfield rocks.
First customer service was outstanding. Love the TV 48 inch makes a perfect fit for the master bed room. TV does require a little learning curve, especially if you plan to use full function of a smart TV. YouTube made setup doable. Added Samsung camera for smart TV to Skype, picture quality & sound worked flawless. Picture works best in lighted room. Some customers noted a problem with camera do check with Samsung to get a comparable product.
Pros: Picture, Smart Remote, setup.
Cons: Remote needs to be back lit, sound is OK but a sound bar may be a good add on.
The best TV we ever had. It is an adventure. We are watching all our 3D movies over and over!
Pros: I love everything! :)
Very nice picture. Would have given 5 stars but, TV needed a update. I also notice a little blurr with Sports since my Living room model has a faster refresh rate.
Pros: Picture, Size and easy to use.
Cons: Needed a Update all ready and refresh rate if you watch a lot of sports or do games.
Thanks to Crutchfield I bought it for just 700 USD which was a pure steal. Picture and sound quality are more than good, I'm not using 3D too much and find Smart features pretty useless so can't comment on those. What I like most is real deep black color and wide viewing angles. Remote is also great, it add some premium-like impression to this TV. In general I'm very satisfied and would recommend this model to others.
Pros: Good picture and sound. Nice remote
Cons: Stand can be scratched easily, Samsung could make it of metal
Loving the features of this TV
Pros: Good features, 3D is decent
Cons: Bluetooth can be used to connect Samsung sound devices only which is disappointing
This set replaced our first 42" flat screen and all I can say is WOW! Resolution doesn't say it all. The dynamic image processing adds incredible depth and detail, even on older movies. 3D performance with Avatar was much better than I hoped. The ashes falling from the burning mother tree seemed to be getting into my hair. Some of the flying scenes made my stomach twist. The glasses perform well once paired, they don't fatigue my eyes or hurt my ears the way some do. I'll be adding more. Regular viewing is good right from the box and the movie mode can be tuned with 11pt precision for your room. Different picture settings can be mapped to different modes and sources so I can do a full digital setup for movie and link that to my blue ray, link a more dynamic setting to my Dish DVR, etc. The little remote controls the basic functions of a full A/V system and has a neat uncluttered look and feel similar to Roku. You can pair keyboards and mice but the remote works well for a mouse. Oh and the IR blaster can be removed from the set once it's paired with your system. The remote learns all the commands from the TV and will control everything. You local programming shows up in the TV's guide and the remote works well for surfing. There isn't much not to love about this set except the substandard setup guides. I wish folks would go back to printing the users manual. All in all I rate this as a great entry level value, at $700 it was a steal.
Pros: Great detail and flexibility. Clean fast signal processing for a clear, deep picture. Excellent 3D. Spiffy remote.
Cons: Poor printed literature and clunky pdf users manual. Worth printing the monster and binding it!
Absolutely great tv. Great picture, attractive design, love the smart features.
Pros: Easy setup. Easy to wall mount. Great picture easy to use.
Cons: Sound could be a little better but still not bad.
Crutchfield is the only place I buy electronics. They have great prices, and their sales/ support staff is great.
Pros: Great tv,and it was easy to set up.
Cons: If you have a bright room, the mat screen will reflect it.
It had been 6-7 years since purchasing my last TV so I was a bit uneasy about all the different features offered with today's sets. So when deciding on a brand/model I focused on what was important to me, picture quality & reliability, of which I feel I get both with my new Samsung TV. Set up was fairly easy and calibrating was a snap. Because I use a sound bar with my set I can't speak to audio quality, but picture clarity & resolution is impressive, particularly with sport programing, which is pretty much my primary interest. Even if I never take advantage of all the features that come with this set I don't think I'll ever regret purchasing it. Very happy.
Pros: Picture quality Nice remote
Cons: There's not much the owner's manual
After a great deal of research I finally decided to buy the Samsung Smart TV. So glad I did it. The picture quality is really great. Everything was so easy to set up (and I am by no means technical). The 3D is so amazing. I watched an IMAX movie from Netflix on it and several times I almost reached out thinking I could touch the object on the screen.
Pros: User-friendly. I was able to use it without even reading the manual. Picture is clear and crisp. 48 inch is the perfect size for a NYC apartment.
Excellent TV. I'm happy with my choice. I started looking at a 60" TV. After trying to figure out my best viewing distances, I bought this and put it on an articulated mount instead. On my less detailed media a viewing distance around 10' works fine. I can stand my better stuff at closer to 8'. Your best distances will likely differ from mine.
Pros: Great detail and motion handling. Good blacks and color. Setup has been straight forward except that I don't have linking to my PC working yet.
Cons: Remote is too small. I wear a man's medium glove but cannot press "Down" without touching one of "Enter" or "Smart Hub". If I press just a hair harder than necessary I get the second function. I find that the dynamic picture mode keeps things too vivid for my taste.
Incredible picture, especially when using cable HD feed. Wimbleton tennis championship was incredible to watch in HD. I could see the 5 o'clock shadow on the announcers and blades of grass on the court. FIFA world cup great too. Normal TV shows in HD great as well, but not as spectacular as live outdoors video feed, at least in my opinion. Haven't tried 3d functions yet, but watching shows with indoor sets gives a very 3d feeling with this TV. Sound and viewing angle is much better than expected given reviews I read. I haven't tweaked the default color settings because they look great to me just as they are. Perhaps I am not very discerning, but I love the picture and the default color adjustment and I am not color blind. TV arrived in perfect condition, easy to put together even without missing instructions. I like the 4 leg stand contrary to most reviewers and my wife. I bought the 48 instead of the 50", because it was cheaper and included free dvd player which I haven't used yet. 50" TV didn't seem worth the extra money for an extra 7/8s inch by 1.5". Possibly my only regret is not getting a bigger screen like 60 or 65". What seemed huge when I looked at it in a retail store, looks small in my TV room even though it is sized correctly for size of TV room. My one unhappiness with this TV is the Smartview 2.0 and is discussed in detail in the Cons section. Samsung software is not up to the same high standards as the Samsung hardware. kudos to Crutchfield for service.
Pros: Beautiful picture, especially in HD cable. Very 3d effect with standard 2d TV shows. Fast action moves very smoothly on the screen (one of my purchase reasons was the higher refresh rate). Sound and viewing angle better than I expected, but will add sound bar eventually. Love the new small remote. A 1000% improvement over the remotes on my older Samsung TVs and dvd players. This TV has exceeded my expectations. Great service from Crutchfield, answer all questions-establish good comfort level.
Cons: Smartview 2.0, ipad app installed so that I could view the TV feed on my ipad, but does not work. Catch22 problem, if you select source=TV on remote, the ipad will display the same static as I am now displaying on my TV (not using the cable feed). If you select souce=HDMI1 on remote, which is the video feed from the cable box, I get message on ipad SV 2.0 that I am using the wrong mode. This is crazy!! 99% of TV viewers have to use cable to get TV feed, so why won't SV 2.0 work with HDMI1 feed??

LED Edge-Lighting w/ Micro Dimming: Samsung's LED Edge-Lighting technology w/ Micro Dimming shows greater detailed contrast across the screen with richer, brighter colors, whiter whites, and deeper blacks. The television's white LEDs are arranged along the left and right edges of the screen and a proprietary light guide is used to focus its luminance inwards towards the middle of the screen for a more uniform brightness. Micro Dimming uses a proprietary algorithm that adjusts brightness and contrast in select parts of the screen based on the image being displayed. This system provides provides a more natural color representation with ultra-sharp blacks, deeper reds & greens, and brighter whites.
Clear Motion Rate 480: Clear Motion Rate (CMR) is Samsung's more comprehensive and accurate measure for how well the LED-LCD TV can display fast-moving images. Previously, motion clarity was expressed simply by the refresh rate, measured in Hz. CMR, however, takes into account all three factors that contribute to motion clarity: panel refresh rate, image processor speed and backlight technology. CMR is measured by determining the thinnest line a TV can display in a moving image. The thinner the line, the higher the CMR rating, and the clearer the picture you'll enjoy on the screen.
Auto Motion Plus: Auto Motion Plus removes blur and judder from scenes with large amounts of rapid movement to provide a clearer picture. Auto Motion Plus reduces blur so that action movies, sports and video games have enhanced clarity. Advanced panels and unique backlight technology combine with proprietary algorithms to reduce the response time and yield a more accurate image reproduction with faster onscreen motion. Auto Motion Plus can be set to Clear, Standard, Smooth, Custom, or Off.
Wide Color Enhancer Plus + Motion Lighting: With Wide Color Enhancer Plus, you'll witness a wider spectrum of colors on the TV screen, just like the director intended. You'll enjoy enriched colors while watching your favorite movies, and shows, even if it's older, non-HD content. The TV automatically adjust the brightness of the screen in response to the brightness of the room. In bright light, the screen brightens. In dim light, the screen dims.
1080p Resolution: The LED-LCD television displays all inputs at a resolution of 1080p (1920 x 1080). The television's HDMI and component video inputs will accept 1080p (24/60Hz), 1080i, 720p, 480p and 480i video signals.
Note: The TV has built-in over-the-air HDTV (ATSC) and Digital Cable (QAM) tuners with an RF-coaxial input, so you don't need a separate set-top box to receive and decode over-the-air HDTV/SDTV or unencrypted Digital Cable signals.
Full HD 3D (via HDMI 1.4): The Samsung LED-LCD TV offers Full HD (1080p) 3D capability. Samsung 3D TV utilizes Bluetooth-enabled active shutter glasses (two pair included) for a full 1080p 3D viewing experience when coupled with a 3D source, such as a 3D-ready Blu-ray player or an HD 3D broadcast from satellite or cable providers (connected via HDMI 1.4). The Samsung 3D TV also offers a unique feature that allows you to intensify your 2D viewing experience by up-converting it to virtual 3D. In addition, you can adjust the overall 3D perspective (+/-5) and overall 3D image depth (1-10). Samsung 3D TV supports Full HD 3D for 1920 x 2205p (24Hz) or 1280 x 1470p (60Hz) video signals; and virtual 3D for 1920 x 1080p (24/30/60Hz), 1920 x 1080i (60Hz), or 1280 x 720p (60hz) video signals. The Samsung LED-LCD TV offers various 3D modes to match your 3D viewing needs.
Note: 2010 Samsung IR 3D glasses and 3D glasses from other manufacturers are not compatible. Some 3D modes may not be available depending on the format of the image source. PIP, Auto Program, and some Picture Adjustment functions will also be disabled in 3D mode.
Included 3D Glasses (2 pair): The Samsung LED-LCD TV includes two pair of 3D active glasses with built-in Bluetooth. Samsung's 3D Active Glasses (SSG-5150GB) offer a comfortable fit through its lightweight frame and flexible noise- and ear-pieces. Audio Settings: The Samsung TV offers a variety of audio adjustments to meet your listening needs.
Audio Outputs: The Samsung LED-LCD television provides an analog and digital audio output.
ARC (Audio Return Channel): The Audio Return Channel in HDMI 1.4 enables a TV, via a single HDMI cable, to send audio data "upstream" to an A/V receiver; increasing user flexibility and eliminating the need for any separate S/PDIF audio connection. This feature allows audio to be sent from the television to your A/V receiver through the same HDMI cable already being used to send audio/video to the television. This eliminates the need for extra cables connected to the TV. ARC allows audio from the TV tuner, Network connection, inserted USB device, HDMI inputs, or any analog connected device to be heard through your ARC compatible AV receiver via the television's HDMI ARC input. The audio from the TV's tuner, network connection, and USB port can pass as Dolby Digital or 2ch PCM. HDMI and analog connected devices will be output as 2ch PCM only.
Note: Both the television and the receiver must support ARC for this function to work properly. When connecting an A/V receiver that is compatible with Audio Return Channel (ARC), connect it to the TV's HDMI 2 input. If connecting a system that is incompatible Audio Return Channel (ARC), an additional audio connection via Digital Audio Out (Optical) is necessary.
SoundShare: The TV is compatible with the SoundShare feature found on some Samsung active soundbar speaker systems). SoundShare makes a wireless connection between the TV and the speaker system via Bluetooth. Once the two are paired, you can control the volume and mute the sound by using the remote control from the TV or the speaker system. The TV can also transfer live feeds to your smartphone or tablet. Main features include:
Keyboard & Mouse Compatible: The Samsung H6400 series LED-LCD TV will support a USB-enabled keyboard and mouse (both sold separately), which makes web browsing a lot easier.
Pedestal Stand: The TV features Samsung's Quad-stand design. The TV is shipped with the pedestal stand unattached. The pedestal stand attaches to the television using the supplied hardware. It allows the TV to swivel left to right +/- 20°. The television weighs 29.8 lbs with the stand.
Wall Mounting: The TV has four threaded inserts on the back for use with an optional wall-mount bracket. The spacing of the mounting holes is 400mm (h) x 400mm (v). The threaded inserts require M8 (8mm) machine screws (not supplied). The television weighs 26.2 lbs without the stand.
Note: When mounting the TV on the stand or a wall (with optional bracket) leave 4" of clearance on each side of the television and 4" above/below the television for adequate ventilation.
Detachable AC Power Cord: The Samsung H6400 series LED-LCD TV comes with a 5' detachable AC power cord. The AC power cord sits 0.1875" out from the rear-panel. The AC power cord is fitted with a right-angle AC plug that sits 0.75" from the wall.
Kensington Lock: When mounting the monitor in a public place, you can secure it with an optional anti-theft device called a Kensington Lock (sold separately). This TV has a slot on the rear-panel to accommodate a Kensington Lock device.

Not sure [ John Jul 25, 2014 ]
Ed, I run my system via a programmable remote. However, the TV comes with an IR extender for one not-too-distant device. See page 14 of the owner's manual, which you can download from Crutchfield, for a brief description of set-up. I saw some language in the menus implying that actual operation is via an on-screen-display. [ George Jul 24, 2014 ]
Traveling and have not unpacked either set yet. Wish I could help [ William S. Jun 13, 2014 ]
I believe the quad and swivel stand are one in the same. Quad referring to the four legs. The TV comes with the one stand. The TV does swivel on the stand shown in the picture. [ charles Jun 13, 2014 ]
It's a swivel mounted stand. Looks just like the picture and it swivels. Not deteachable. Only one stand. Great TV, beautiful picture and the 3D is great! [ LAUREN Jun 13, 2014 ]
One stand. They must mean swivel mount. [ Jack Jun 13, 2014 ]
