Here's another outstanding HDTV value from Samsung. The PN50C450 shows off plasma's picture quality strengths: realistic colors, deep black levels, and effortlessly smooth motion handling. It has 720p screen resolution, so you'll want to sit a bit further back than with a 1080p TV, to see a clean, clear picture. But once you turn this set on, you'll be hooked by the beauty of plasma.

Samsung provides three HDMI inputs so you can make easy one-cable connections to your high-def satellite receiver or cable box, video game console, and more. You'll find a standard PC input for your computer, plus a USB port so you can plug in a camera or thumb drive to look at photos.

The pros of plasma

If you're into picture quality, and you want a cinema-like home viewing experience, you owe it to yourself to check out plasma for your next TV. Plasma holds the edge when it comes to smooth motion and rich colors — high-def movies and TV shows look effortlessly real. Bought this Plasma a little over 3 years ago and was completely satisfied until a green vertical line appeared in the middle of the screen running from top to bottom of screen. I called Samsung and they sent out a repair technician who said the repair would cost $1487. He indicated that this was a fairly common problem with the Samsung Plasma's. I contacted Samsung but they just said you need to buy a new TV. Probably will replace it with another Plasma because it's in a family room in the basement but looking at other manufacturers this time.

Pros: Originally paid between $600-$700 so it was a good value and picture was great for 3 years.

Cons: Quality seems to lacking if it's only going to last 3 years.

Great TV!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Great TV! Great Service! TV was delivered into my living room before
estimated arrival, received in less than a week. It was easy to setup. Only
issue was with HD signal strength from cable company. Once that was fixed
and they swapped out a defective cable box it looks great!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

We were skeptical of the picture from day 1. My set arrived faster than expected,
and with better picture quality than I anticipated. We as a family have fallen in
love with this set. I have used Crutchfield in the past, and will use them more
frequently going forward.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

After doing quite a bit of researching, we chose this Samsung 720p Plasma.
And I have been extremely pleased with our purchase. I have a rather dark den,
and this plasma looks amazing in it. I agree with the fact that the picture
appears better the farther away you are from it.

This TV was so easy to hook up with all my components. And the delivery was
fast and easy. I will definitely use Crutchfield again for my electronic needs in
the future.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I did some research here, and in several local stores. I compared LCDs and
Plasmas, and it was a tough decision because there are advantages and
disadvantages to either. The biggest question was based on the room where this
set was going to be installed. It is a fairly bright room during the day. But
I was so impressed with the video quality when I visited local stores, I came
home and called Crutchfield to place an order.

Set arrived in three days. Setup and installation was a snap. The picture
quality is amazing. Even in our brightly lit living room, the picture quality
is stunning. All of this with standard definition cable. The sound is
adequate, and have no issues there. The only bug we had was after making all
the connections to the TV, surge suppressor, and cable box, none of the local
channels came through on cable. Bypassing the surge suppressor with the cable
solved the problem.

The stand that comes with the unit could be better designed, and it would be
nice if it provided some swivel for positioning. But it does the job.

Great Tv!

Written By Cesar S, Houston, Tx. on Sunday, November 14, 2010

This is a great tv! The picture is really good! I was kinda hesitant on going
with this tv due to the 720p but I didnt see a difference when compared to a
1080p at the store and so I bought it and I am really happy I did. I saved about
1000 bucks going with plasma too. My apartment is also well lit and has many
windows. I have no complains about the picture and it also looks great in my
living room. I am going to go bigger though and move this one to my bedroom. I
want to get a 58 or bigger for the living room. I highly recommend this tv over
a more expensive led or lcd. There is no noticeable difference in the picture
quality and you will save hundreds!

Good HD/ Fair SD

Written By ryan, Iowa on Saturday, November 13, 2010

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

First of all this TV is the best Bang for your Buck!!!
I personally prefer plasma over LCD. Even though the picture does not pop as much as
a LCD, plasmas seem more natural to me.

As far a picture quality the HD picture is much better than SD. Especially in terms of
black levels. DVDs with alot of black and greys have very little depth or separation.
Samsung is definatly not using great processing chips on this low end model. But the
HD picture is much better. The black level is greatly improved for the SD picture.

Overall I am very pleased for the price, but the SD picture is lacking, guess it is time to
upgrade all my disks to blu-ray.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Researched TV's for several months prior to this purchase. Compared many Plasma, LCD, LED TV's prior to this purchase and for the value, you can't beat the picture quality. Doesn't have all the bells and whistles of the higher priced Flat Screens but the picture is amazing. With my viewing distance, 720P is amazing and 1080P would not have made any difference. Make sure to research the viewing distance that you will be utilizing, because viewing distances > approx. 9 .5 feet, do not allow the human eye to distinguish 720 vs 1080P. Just a little pearl to help you save some money. Plan to hook this up to surround sound or add a sound bar as with most flat screens, the sound is not adequate.

As always, Crutchfield was wonderful for the shopping experiece and the delivery! Couldn't have been more pleased!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

One thing I do not like to do is knock a product that is spectacular, but I have found a mechical defect in this Samsung PN50C450 I purchased from Crutchfield. There is a 4 to 5 inch white or color ban that goes from top to bottom on the screen. This appears especially when watching sports or high action. This happens on all input devices. Crutchfield states this is a defect and will ship me out a replacement at no charge. My hope is the next one will not have any problems. Other then that, this Plasma is perfect in every way, and no problem with the screws connecting the base.

Great TV!

The picture and features are amazing! Was very skeptical about moving down from a
1080p LCD, but honestly the picture seems alot crisper! I also purchased Samsung
HT-C550 to use with this tv. They work great together!

The stand for the tv is great quality as well as the hardware.. Some might think the
screws are incorrect etc but they are coarse thread and the holes they go into are

I like this TV

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The TV itself is wonderful for the price I paid. The remote is not all that effective, I need to kind of directly keep pointing at the TV to make selections and press the buttons hard enough.

The most annoying thing was setting up the TV - the screws that came along with the TV to mount it on its base stand are horrible. I cannot understand how Samsung could have messed up so much on such a small thing. The screws are too big for the holes and can never be inserted completely and hence the TV is not sitting steadily on the stand. Another friend of mine bought the same TV, a 42" one and even he faced the same problems.

Nice TV

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I just received this TV and a two things to note for those of you that purchase
this. The stand is located in the styrofoam at the bottom of the box but the
part that attaches the TV to the stand is hidden in the styrofoam at the top on
the box, I couldn't find it for the longest time. Second, the screws are
extremely difficult to screw in. I had to buy a new #2 philips so i didn't
strip the screws, with a new screwdriver it was still difficult but doable. I
won't knock the TV for this as I want the TV to be secure on the stand so if
this is what it takes then that is acceptable.

I currently have a variety of TV's from 23 to 67" and this is my third 50"
plasma so I have a pretty good idea of what my expectations should be. This new
plasma is very thin (not LED thin, but thin). The picture really pops right off
the bat and the contrast is excellent. i couldn't find any settings for this
new set on any forums so I looked up some for the previous model, b450, and it
seems good. After a break in period i will adjust the settings again. For an
entry level plasma this rivals mid level plasmas of only a few years ago,
Samsung has done a really nice job.

The only issue other then assembly is that the screen has some glare to it, I
expected this from an entry level plasma and have it in my basement where there
is no direct sunlight. If you have alot of sunlight in your room you may not
want to consider this TV for the glare.

Clear Image Panel: Samsung's Clear Image Panel technology delivers clear images from every angle without the dual images and blurring typically found with conventional panels. This single-filter clear panel design eliminates the off-angle reflections that cause picture blurring of images and details so images look great at virtually any angle.

600Hz Subfield Motion: The television features 600Hz Subfield Motion technology with a fast 0.001ms response time that minimizes blurring of fast motion in sports programming and movie content.

Mega Dynamic Contrast Ratio: The TV has a 2,000:000:1 mega dynamic contrast ratio which offers rich black details.

Wide Color Enhancer: The TV's integrated Wide Color Enhancer provides natural, realistic colors.

Anti Burn-In Technology: To reduce the possibility of screen burn-in, this Plasma TV is equipped with screen burn-in prevention technology. Samsung's Anti-burn-in technology uses auto pixel shift and signal pattern processing functions to ensure that no images are burned into the plasma panel. The Time setting allows you to program the time between movement of the picture in minutes.

  • Pixel Shift: This function shifts the pixels of the displayed image every 1-4 minutes to prevent burn-in.
  • Scrolling: This function removes after-images on the screen by moving all the pixels on the PDP according to a pattern.
  • Side Gray (Dark/Light): When you watch TV with the screen ratio of 4:3, the screen is prevented from any damage by adjusting the white balance on both the extreme left and right sides of the television.

HDTV Tuner: The TV has built-in over-the-air HDTV (ATSC) and Digital Cable (QAM) tuners, so you don't need a separate set-top box to receive and decode over-the-air HDTV/SDTV or unencrypted Digital Cable signals.

Native Resolution: The Samsung Plasma TV has a display resolution of 1368 x 768 and scales all inputs for display at 720p. The TV's HDMI and component video inputs will accept 1080p, 1080i, 720p, 480p and 480i signals.

Video Inputs: The Samsung Plasma TV offers HDMI, Component, and Composite video inputs.

  • HDMI Inputs: The Samsung Plasma television features three HDMI inputs (2 rear/1 side). The HDMI 2 input can also be used to connect a device with a DVI output (a DVI-to-HDMI adapter cable is necessary). If a DVI-equipped device is used, a separate audio cable will also be needed from the device to the TV's PC/DVI Audio In 3.5mm jack. The HDMI inputs can also be used to connect a PC to this TV. The HDMI jacks will accept 1080p, 1080i, 720p, 480p, and 480i signals.
  • Dual Component Video: The two Component Video jacks will accept 1080p, 1080i, 720p, 480p, and 480i signals. Separate RCA stereo audio inputs are provided for each Component Video input. The Component Video 1 input can also be used as a composite video input.

Screen Sizes: You can choose one of the following picture sizes:

  • 16:9: Sets the picture to 16:9 wide mode.
  • Zoom 1: Vertically enlarges the size of the picture and allows you to move the enlarged picture using the arrows on the remote.
  • Zoom 2: Vertically enlarges the size of the picture more than Zoom 1 and allows you to move the enlarged picture using the arrows on the remote.
  • Wide Fit: Proportionally enlarges the picture to fit the entire screen without changing the aspect ratio.
  • 4:3: Sets the picture to 4:3 normal mode with pillars on the left and right of the screen.
  • Screen Fit: See the full image with no resizing when HDMI (720p/1080i/180p) or Component (1080i/1080p) signals are inputted

Note: Screen Size settings can be stored for each external device you have connected to an input of the TV.

Game Mode: When connecting the television to a game console, you can enjoy a more realistic gaming experience when selecting Game Mode.

  • Music: Emphasizes music over voices.
  • Movie: Provides the best sound for movies.
  • Clear Voice: Emphasizes voices over other sounds.

SRS TruSurround HD: SRS TruSurround HD is a patented SRS technology that solves the problem of playing 5.1 multichannel content over two speakers. TruSurround delivers a compelling, virtual surround sound experience through any two-speaker playback system, including the internal television speakers. It is fully compatible with all multichannel formats.

Audio Outputs: The Samsung Plasma television provides an analog and digital audio output.
