If you tend to look at a TV purchase as an investment, Samsung's UN55HU6950 will pay big dividends now and down the road. Its 3840 x 2160-pixel 4K screen will impress you with its super-sharp, seamless picture detail. You'll probably want to sit a bit closer to the screen than you would for a conventional HDTV, so as not to miss a morsel of the visual feast. And if future-readiness is a concern you'll be happy to hear that Samsung has you covered.
Samsung made sure that this set's video processing and connections are as future-ready as the screen. Exhibit A: The UN55HU6950 includes “HEVC” decoding, which means it can display streamed 4K Netflix® content with no additional gear needed. One of the set's HDMI inputs supports HDCP 2.2 copy protection, which means you'll be able to enjoy 4K Blu-ray movies when they arrive in late 2015. And this TV will be ready for what's coming further in the future, thanks to Samsung's Smart Evolution feature, which provides a goof-proof way to upgrade the TV's inputs, outputs, and processing brains. Think of it as an insurance policy that will keep UN55HU6950 owners up to date on Ultra HD format standards as they evolve.
True 4K content will continue to be scarce for a while, but that won't keep you from enjoying a remarkable picture. Samsung made 4K upconversion a top priority as they developed the video processing circuitry for the UN55HU6950. Their UHD Upscaling automatically upconverts any signal to match the screen's 4K resolution. All of your current video sources — Blu-ray player, cable or satellite TV box, game console — will look better than ever.
The Quad Screen feature divides this TV into four screens. Watch a golf tournament on one screen while searching the web for current standings on another. Then watch a video tutorial to master your swing while navigating your Smart TV panel on the fourth screen.
Tablets and smartphones can run circles around many older Smart TVs, but they can't do all the tricks that the UN55HU6950 can. Samsung's speedy quad core processor supports a new Multi-Link feature, which lets you place live TV side-by-side with other apps, like YouTube™ or a web browser — you can browse the web without having to interrupt what you're watching.
Besides surfing the web you can do things like multitask or use one app while downloading another. Whether your connection is wired or wireless, you can do a quick web search while you watch movies and TV shows, and enjoy TV while you chat with friends and family online. Along with built-in apps for services like Netflix®, Hulu®, and YouTube™, you can download new ones from Samsung's large selection of apps.
Samsung's AllShare™ Play lets you wirelessly access and stream content from any compatible device. If you have a Galaxy S3 smartphone or Galaxy tablet, you can share movies, photos, and music via the UN55HU6950. Your Wi-Fi® network lets you do things like "toss" photos from your phone or tablet to the screen with the swipe of a finger. Or push streaming video like Netflix movies from device to screen.
Sending content from your phone to your TV is cool, and going TV-to-phone is even cooler. Just download Samsung's free Smart View app and use the TV View feature to mirror whatever's on the UN55HU6950's screen on any compatible smartphone or tablet. You can leave the room anytime without leaving your entertainment behind. It's like a whole-house TV system you can hold in your hand.
Movie theaters have switched to 4K projectors in recent years, and now you can enjoy amazing 4K picture quality at home. Ultra HD TVs with 4K resolution offer four times the detail of 1080p HDTVs. Some major TV makers offer media players so you can download and watch true 4K content for the best possible picture. Netflix® is already streaming some of their content in 4K, and other services plan to offer 4K video later this year.
The picture on this TV is awesome. The only reason I give it 4 stars is because it has kind of a weird backing that makes it difficult to mount with some universal mounts. The screw housing is really deep in the back of the tv, so the screws that are provided with the mounting hardware probably won't be long enough. However, I was able to purchase some longer screws at a local hardware store for a couple bucks.
Pros: Great picture Sleek Cool user interface Cool remote
Cons: Weird tv back
Samsung 55" TV from Crutchfield was a great choice. Unfortunately it had been damaged in transit although the box showed no damage. When turned on the TV screen had a black area and several lines of failed pixels. Crutchfield is arranging a no cost to me replacement after a brief call to customer support..
Pros: Crutchfield reputation. Product reliability of Samsung.
Cons: Delivery from Crutchfield took several days rather than overnight expected from past experience with Crutchfield. Product arrived in damaged condition.
Wonderful product. Outstanding picture. Set-up was very simple. Have yet to use online user manual - look forward to learning more about the product.
Pros: Clarity of both audio and video.
Cons: Remote has "mute" button on the side of it. Poor location. Too easy to mute sound by just picking it up and touching the button/=.
This is a 60 hertz refresh rate TV. Basically a misleading product. Dontcwaste your money. The fast action screens will be blurry. Samsung has decided to take the low toad and mislead consumers by selling a low perfornance product packaged as a 4K sensationalism marketing gimmick.
Cons: Low low horrible refresh rate
Worked great right out of the box. Easy set-up. I'm no aficionado, but the picture quality is excellent. Wired into my audio system so I'm not using the sound from the set. Remote control could use better alpha-numeric input keypad.
Pros: Ease of set-up, Features
Cons: Remote control
Beautiful picture. Easy setup. Needs better speakers.
Pros: Great picture
Incredible picture! Love the point and click remote.
Pros: Even black and white movies are great.
This is a great tv. I like the different options for source, sound and picture. It has a good sound and closed caption. I am hearing impaired so that is important. it also has a great picture quality. It was easy to install. Very pleased!
An amazing TV. Looked at the reviews and tech info on this set. Had the tv it for about 3 weeks. Love the TV. Read a couple negative review which appears to be what tv is obtaining it signal from. If you like a plasma over this tv. You either need to change your glasses on get a new service (DTV, Etc).
No way a 7 YEAR old plasma will out perform this TV.
I recommend this TV to anyone looking for a 4K tv with smart features . This is the one.
Pros: Great tv at a great price. Replaced a 40" and no comparison in picture, features and quality. Hook up to a nice sound system and enjoy
Awesome TV, Stunning Picture Quality! Owned 3 other Samsung flat screens but 4K clarity is amazing. Realizing that some content is broadcast in digital and Not HD quality so you won't receive a near UHD picture. However, HD programming on Prime Time Shows and Movies broadcast in HD are absolutely crystal clear with UHD up scaling capabilities! Samsung is top shelf in my opinion! Frustrates me to see trash reviews when someone includes negative ratings reference features that are not included. 'Samsung UN55HU6950', Curved and 3D features are Not included on this particular model so read the product Overview First and purchase the Model that has the features you require at the price you can afford. As with most TV's, the OEM Sound quality on this model is 'good' not great. Buy a sound bar/subwoofer to enhance the amazing video experience! Also, take time to set-up the TV to the room with the Samsung Smart Hub remote 'Menu', then adjust Picture mode and Sound mode. Great price at Crutchfield with Free shipping to your door... Hope this helps!
Pros: Picture Quality!
Cons: Good, not Great Sound...
Setup of the TV was straight forward and easy. The picture is extremely clear and vivid. I also purchased the Polk Soundbar and Subwoofer, Excellent combination. I could not be any happier with the quality of the TV picture.
Pros: Clear, Vivid, Great Sound with Polk Soundbar. Quality products.
Cons: The Small Remote for the TV is a pain in the A**! I will be contacting Crutchfield for an attempt to find a larger remote for the TV.
This uhd tv has a beautiful picture. I can't complain about this tv one bit. It had all the features I wanted in a smart tv. Didn't care so much for 3D, so I went with this version. Out the box, the picture settings was right and it was easy to set up. I love to show off this tv when company comes over. There wasnt any problems with the shipping and I received it fast. I recommend anyone to get this tv from crutchfield.
Pros: Tons of features, easy set up, picture quality
Cons: Can't think of any right now
It took me a few days to get the settings just right so that the picture was to my liking but once I did I really like the TV.
Pros: Bright, light, easy to mount and 4K content looks incredible!
Cons: Sometimes blurs on fast moving items and if the content your watching isnt broadcast in good HD or filmed recently, it can look pretty bad. This problem should get better with time as broadcasting companies upgrade their products in the studios and more things will be filmed in 4K.
Amazing! TV has never looked so good!!
i have owned i panasonic plasma for five plus years and was ready for something newer and larger. after reading reviews (but not going anywhere to view in person), i bought the samsung. huge disappointment, my wife and i were shocked by the lack of definition, especially in flesh tones, vs the 7 year old panasonic. a friend subsequently recommended the sony, went out to compare, and immediately returned the samsung ($125 restocking fee charged by Crutchfield thank you). waiting on the sony to be delivered but i am wondering if there is an led out there that can match the plasma picture?
Pros: it was light and easy to install. liked all of the internet connectivity
Cons: picture was a HUGE disappointment
The price was good and the Crutchfield man ran a cogent presentation. It has a great picture and works like a IMAX sail in a small room. So far, I like it. An eight foot tall weather man I can live without.
Pros: Bright screen and "Smart TV" faculty at a decent price. The lack of fancy sound can be easily remedied -- just shop around : And the noise? Since I am in a high rise apartment presently, this is less important than dependability and it is said to have that.
Cons: Not curved and lacks 3D and etc. Does not XXX and OOO your friends and neighbors. Don't know how much sound can be enhanced
So far very happy with TV. Haven't yet seen anything in ultra high definition.
Great picture when they send ultra HD signal.
Cons: Learning to use all the features.
Is there any way I can rate this item over % stars? The picture is like nothing I've ever seen before. To watch a football game is to see every detail ....from the stitching on the ball to every hair on the coach's balding head. This is a no brainer.this is a real bargain at $1600. I was gong to wait until the prices came down even more, but after seeing that picture,i could wait no longer.
Pros: Excellent picture,Easy set up.Netflix, the Web
Cons: I haven't found any cons yet. ive had it for two weeks.
I loved my old Plasma, but wasn't a big fan of LED/LCD. This 4k has an awesome picture!

Ultra-HD 4K Resolution w/ UHD Upscaling: The Samsung HU6950 series LED-LCD TV has a display resolution of 3,840 x 2,160 (4K) and will display all video at that resolution; regardless of input signal. The Ultra-HD TV even offers "HEVC" decoding, which means it'll be able to display 4K content from online movie & TV show providers (like Netflix). 4K provides 4x higher resolution than current 1080p high-definition TVs, ensuring a truly immersive experience for all your favorite movies and TV shows. UHD Upscaling delivers the complete Ultra-HD picture experience with a proprietary process including signal analysis, noise reduction, UHD upscaling, and detail enhancement to seamlessly upconvert SD, HD, or full-HD content to Ultra-HD-level picture quality.
Note: You can upgrade this HU6950 series LED-LCD TV with Samsung's One Connect Box (sold separately) to unlock new features and services offered by Samsung Electronics. With the One Connect Box from Samsung, you can be update the TV with new software and technology that will adapt to future Ultra-HD standards and improve TV performance; faster speed, more content, more features. The One Connect Box simply plugs into the TV using a single proprietary cable.
LED-Edge Backlight w/ UHD Dimming: The Samsung HU6950 series LED-LCD TV uses LED-Edge backlighting with UHD Dimming to maximize the contrast between lights and darks for a picture that is as true-to-life as possible. The television's white LEDs are arranged along the left and right edges of the screen and a proprietary light guide is used to focus its luminance inwards towards the middle of the screen for a more uniform brightness. UHD Micro Dimming precisely scans an incredible amount of zones across the entire image and adjusts brightness to deliver deeper darks and brighter whites. It virtually eliminates the "halo" effect and image distortion, so you'll enjoy a crystal clear picture
Ultra-Clear Panel + Wide Color Enhancer: The Samsung Ultra-Clear Panel absorbs ambient light, reduces reflections and lets the picture come to life. It displays deeper blacks and enhanced contrast for crystal clarity, without glare, so you can see clearly and enjoy more detail. With Wide Color Enhancer Plus, you'll witness a wider spectrum of colors on the TV screen, just like the director intended. You'll enjoy enriched colors while watching your favorite movies, and shows, even if it's older, non-HD content.
Clear Motion Rate 240: Clear Motion Rate (CMR) is Samsung's more comprehensive and accurate measure for how well the LED-LCD TV can display fast-moving images. Previously, motion clarity was expressed simply by the refresh rate, measured in Hz. CMR, however, takes into account all three factors that contribute to motion clarity: panel refresh rate, image processor speed and backlight technology. CMR is measured by determining the thinnest line a TV can display in a moving image. The thinner the line, the higher the CMR rating, and the clearer the picture you'll enjoy on the screen.
Video Inputs: The Samsung Ultra-HD LED-LCD TV offers Ultra-HD, high-definition, and standard definition video inputs.
Note: The TV feature a single RF-type coaxial input for connecting an external indoor/outdoor antenna. The unit has built-in over-the-air HDTV (ATSC) tuner, so you don't need a separate set-top box to receive and decode over-the-air HDTV/SDTV or unencrypted Digital Cable signals (up to 1080i).
HDMI (MHL) Port: The HDMI 3 port is designed for the connection of select mobile phones and other portable electronic devices using the new MHL (Mobile High-Definition Link) standard. Simply plug your MHL compatible smartphone into the TV's HDMI 3 (MHL) port using the HDMI cable that is included with your mobile phone. MHL allows you to display full 1080p video and still images on the Samsung TV from your mobile smartphone. The TV's IR remote can be used to control basic playback functions (such as Play/Pause, Stop Fast Forward/Rewind, and Menu navigation). Your MHL compliant device will also charge while connected to the TV's HDMI 3 port. To find MHL-certified devices, go to www.mhlconsortium.org.
Multi-Link Screens: The Samsung HU6950 series LED-LCD TV supports Quad Screen and PIP.
Picture Control: You can make the following adjustments for an optimum picture.

5-Band EQ + Sound Modes: You can manually adjusts the TV's built-in 5-band EQ (100 Hz, 300 Hz, 1 kHz, 3 kHz, and 10 kHz) for a more customized sound; or simply choose from the following Preset Sound Modes - Standard (normal mode), Music (music mode), Movie (movie mode), Clear Voice (emphasizes voices), and Amplify (increases clarity for people who have difficulty hearing).
Audio Extras: The Samsung TV offers a variety of audio adjustments to meet your listening needs.
Audio Outputs: The Samsung LED-LCD television provides an analog and digital audio output.
ARC (Audio Return Channel): The Audio Return Channel within the television's HDMI 4 input enables the TV, via a single HDMI cable, to send audio data "upstream" to an A/V receiver; increasing user flexibility and eliminating the need for any separate S/PDIF audio connection. This feature allows audio to be sent from the television to your A/V receiver through the same HDMI cable already being used to send audio/video to the television. This eliminates the need for extra cables connected to the TV. ARC allows audio from the TV tuner, Network connection, inserted USB device, HDMI inputs, or any analog connected device to be heard through your ARC compatible AV receiver via the television's HDMI ARC input. The audio from the TV's tuner, network connection, and USB port can pass as Dolby Digital or 2ch PCM. HDMI and analog connected devices will be output as 2ch PCM only.
Note: Both the television and the receiver must support ARC for this function to work properly. When connecting an A/V receiver that is compatible with Audio Return Channel (ARC), connect it to the TV's HDMI 4 input. If connecting a system that is incompatible Audio Return Channel (ARC), an additional audio connection via Digital Audio Out (Optical) is necessary.
SoundShare: The TV is compatible with the SoundShare feature found on some Samsung active soundbar speaker systems). SoundShare makes a wireless connection between the TV and the speaker system via Bluetooth. Once the two are paired, you can control the volume and mute the sound by using the remote control from the TV or the speaker system. If you change the soundbar speaker system from TV mode to another mode or turn it off, the TV audio will resume playing from the TV's speakers. SoundShare can be found on select Samsung active soundbar speaker systems (sold separately).
Samsung's Quad Core Processor: Samsung's Quad Core processing speeds allow you to perform multiple tasks at the same time, such as using an app while downloading another one. Network Connection (wired/wireless): You can set up the Samsung HU6950 series LED-LCD TV so that it can access your home network and online Samsung Apps through your local area network (LAN) using a wired (RJ-45 Ethernet) or wireless connection (built-in WiFi). You can setup a wired network connection automatically or manually. You can setup the wireless network connection using these four methods; Automatic, Manual, WPS (PBC), or WPS (PIN). The TV's built-in WiFi supports IEEE 802.11A/B/G/N wireless LAN networks and WEP (open/shared), WPA-PSK (TKIP/AES), or WPA2-PSK network security; a dual-band Gigabit wireless-N router is recommended for 4K streaming.
Note: Samsung recommends a home network connection speed of at least 2.5 Mbps for standard definition, 10 Mbps for high definition, and 15 Mbps for ultra-high definition.
WiFi Direct: When using WiFi Direct, you can connect directly with other devices without using a wireless router. You'll be able to wirelessly transfer personal content (such as photos & videos) to the Samsung LED-LCD TV without connecting to your home network. 4K Network Streaming: This Ultra-HD TV even offers "HEVC" decoding, which means it'll be able to display 4K content from online movie & TV show providers (like Netflix or UltraFlix). 4K network streaming requires a network speed of 15Mbps or greater. A wired Ethernet connection is recommended over a wireless WiFi connection for better performance. If you desire a WiFi connection, then use a dual-band Gigabit wireless-N router for 4K streaming. Make sure the Samsung television has the latest software/firmware updates installed.

There is one USB 3.0 port which can connect to a USB hard-disk-drive (5V/1A). The USB 2.0 (5V/0.5A) and USB 3.0 ((5V/1A) ports let you view photo and movie files, as well as listen to audio files saved on a compatible USB device. Files must be formatted in FAT, exFAT, or NTFS. The TV can recognize up to 1,000 files per folder.

Voice Control: Using the Smart TV Remote's built-in microphone and the voice control function of the TV, your voice is all you need to turn on the Samsung television, navigate menus, and get to your favorite Smart TV content. You can even use only your voice to switch the channel, adjust the volume level, and launch online apps while focusing on the TV screen, which removes the need for a conventional remote control. "Trigger Words" can be displayed on-screen to use during voice control to help you know what to say. To use Voice Control, you must pronounce words and phrases clearly and correctly in the language (English/French/Spanish) you selected. The Voice Control function can be affected by unclear pronunciation, voice level, or surrounding noise. Speak voice commands 4"-6" away from the remote's microphone, and make sure to speak in a loud (75-80dB) & clear voice, and reduce any background noise in the room.
Note: The television is also equipped with a 5-way "joy stick" like button on the rear-panel that lets you control the TV without the remote control.
SmartView Mobile App: You can download the Samsung SmartView mobile app (from iTunes or GooglePlay) onto to your Apple iOS (5.0+) or Android (4.0.3+) device for yet another way to control the Samsung LED-LCD TV. Wall Mounting: The TV has four threaded inserts on the back for use with an optional wall-mount bracket. The spacing of the mounting holes is 400mm (h) x 400mm (v). The threaded inserts require M8 (8mm) machine screws (not supplied). The television weighs 37.0 lbs without the stand.
Note: When mounting the TV on the stand or a wall (with optional bracket) leave 4" of clearance on each side of the television and 4" above/below the television for adequate ventilation.

No. There is no built-in swivel on my unit. That said, it is really easy to move it on the top of my entertainment center for a different angle. [ Henry H. Jan 08, 2016 ]
I have no idea. Good question. [ Carmen Aug 27, 2015 ]
almost any video camera hook it to HDMI, or usb for cheap cameras, you might need a mini hdmi to hdmi cord or a micro hdmi to hdmi cord. [ Gabriel Jan 08, 2016 ]
patrick....i'm not the one to ask about such things, unfortunately. i did not purchase a camera. but, i'll have to tell my it savvy children that the camera is an option. sorry, i wasn't more help! [ PEGGY H Apr 12, 2015 ]
I don't know. [ Carmen Apr 06, 2015 ]

When i spoke to the Crutchfield Advisor, he advised it was not necessary with these new TV's. I used to use the Monster Calibration DVD on previous TV's. [ ROGER Jan 04, 2015 ]
The sound is as expected from a TV with a small thickness. If you are spending money on this TV, you are going to want some external sound device. [ ROGER Jan 04, 2015 ]
Sound is good enough for us-we are not serious audiophiles or heavy surround sound movie watchers. But sound is big and strong and good. [ Jane A. Dec 25, 2014 ]
THE SOUND IS ADEQUATE/OK. IF YOU HAVE AN AMP AND SPEAKERS YOU CAN RUN A THREE PRONGED LINE FROM THE BACK OF THE AMP TO THE CONTROL PANEL OF THE HU6950 AND GET GREAT SOUND. OTHERWISE BUY A SOUND BAR. THE PICTURE IS EXCELLENT. HOWEVER UPON INSTALATION THE TECH TOLD ME I COULD EITHER CHOOSE THE SMART SCREEN OR 4K. IT SEEMS THAT AT THE PRESENT TIME BOTH ARE NOT AVAILABLE. I CHOSE SMART SCREEN BECAUSE I HAVE NETFLIX. [ CARL Dec 24, 2014 ]
Sound quality not great. For movies we route sound through stereo and turn down sound on TV. [ Michael Dec 23, 2014 ]
Don't know. We already had a home theatre sound system (also purchased from Crutchfield :) so do not use the TV for sound. However, we love the TV [ DONNA T Dec 22, 2014 ]
hi m n, merry Christmas. i'd love to help you. i think crutch field is one of the best overall shopping experiences i've ever had. however, we are actually hooking it up today. it's for a Christmas surprise....so, can't say about qualities as yet. if we get hooked up & i watch it today...i'll get back to you. best, p.@. [ PEGGY H Dec 22, 2014 ]
This TV has numerous custom settings available to adjust sound to any room during initial set-up. Sound quality is 'good' but for a total experience to match the beautiful UHD display, a quality sound bar with subwoofer is recommended! [ Louis Dec 22, 2014 ]
The sound is good. I am over 60 yr old and my hearing is not as good as it used to be. I bought a sound bar to upgrade what the TV had....not because I could not hear or understand the sound from the TV speakers. Crutchfield had a very good deal on the Proficient Max TV soundbar. I really enjoy it...nice complement to the TV. [ Carmen Dec 22, 2014 ]
Hi, I think the sound is as good as any sound from a TV can be. It's the TV that I'm disappointed with. In order to see 4K you have to buy a expensive "box" with preloaded movies and shows to load on to the TV. ($400) I think it has 10 movies and other shows on it. To me it's not worth it for the 4K. I think netflix and only in limited numbers can stream in 4K for around $12 a month. But the sound is very good. no problem with that. But a less expensive 1080i or p, would be as good or better (price wise). If you get this TV, enjoy. Merry Christmas [ harold Dec 22, 2014 ]
We purchased a sound bar to go with the TV. The TV sound is fine but it is obviously better with the sound bar. [ Gregory J. Dec 22, 2014 ]
No sound bar necessary. [ William Dec 22, 2014 ]
The sound isn't bad. I did buy a sound bar and notice more bass with the sound bar. The sound isn't so tinny as the TV puts out [ JOHN C Dec 21, 2014 ]
We haven't set up the tv yet [ Donna Dec 21, 2014 ]
The sounds is MUCH better than what we had on our Sony Vaio. We're not [ Hilary Dec 21, 2014 ]
The sound from the TV is OK. The sound bar provides a much fuller sound and in my opinion, is necessary in a large room. I will say that we have had a few issues controlling the sound bar with the TV remote, but it is easily resolved. [ Deborah Dec 21, 2014 ]
If you do not have a home theater or receiver set up for surround sound, you are missing out on a major part of the big screen experience. These systems have support for a center sound bar and stereo speakers at a minimum. Bottom line: go for the sound bar. The speakers on the TV are only adequate for a very small room. Good luck! [ Henry H. Dec 21, 2014 ]
The sound is ok, but not great. I bought the tv for my husband for his birthday, and I'm getting him the sound bar for Christmas. [ CAROLINE A. Dec 21, 2014 ]
