Samsung brings down the price of curved-screen Ultra HD

Samsung UN55HU7250

Samsung's curved-screen Ultra HD models are catching the eyes of lots of TV shoppers this year. With the introduction of the more affordable HU7250 series, more people will get to experience that amazing picture depth and detail at home.

In addition to its super-sharp 3840 x 2160-pixel picture detail, the UN55HU7250's screen is gently curved to provide a slight wraparound effect. The curved surface reduces reflections from ambient lighting on the sides, which is always a good thing.

Together, these features create an addictive viewing experience, enveloping you in spectacular color, clarity and detail. And unlike last year's curved designs, the UN55HU7250 can be wall-mounted.

Ready for 4K content right now

Samsung made sure that this set's video processing and connections are as future-ready as the screen. Exhibit A: The UN55HU7250 includes “HEVC” decoding, which means it can display streamed 4K Netflix® content with no additional gear needed. And this TV will be ready for what's coming further in the future, thanks to Samsung's Smart Evolution feature, which provides a goof-proof way to upgrade the TV's inputs, outputs, and processing brains. Think of it as an insurance policy that will keep UN55HU7250 owners up to date on Ultra HD format standards as they evolve.

Samsung Ultra HD media player

Samsung's UHD Video Pack media player.

Samsung's UHD Video Pack (sold separately) lets you instantly make the most of your Samsung Ultra HD TV. Only a little bigger than a smartphone, this 1-terabyte hard drive comes pre-loaded with several full-length movies and nature documentaries, all in spectacular full 4K resolution. Simply connect it to the TV using the supplied USB cable and start enjoying the best picture you've ever seen.

True 4K content will continue to be scarce for a while, but that won't keep you from enjoying a remarkable picture. Samsung made 4K upconversion a top priority as they developed the video processing circuitry for the UN55HU7250. Their UHD Upscaling automatically upconverts any signal to match the screen's 4K resolution. All of your current video sources — Blu-ray player, cable or satellite TV box, game console — will look better than ever.

Smart TV times 4

Samsung UN55U8550 Quad Screen

The Quad Screen feature divides this TV into four screens. Watch a golf tournament on one screen while searching the web for current standings on another. Then watch a video tutorial to master your swing while navigating your Smart TV panel on the fourth screen.

Tablets and smartphones can run circles around many older Smart TVs, but they can't do all the tricks that the UN55HU7250 can. Samsung's speedy quad core processor supports a new Multi-Link feature, which lets you place live TV side-by-side with other apps, like YouTube™ or a web browser — you can browse the web without having to interrupt what you're watching.

Besides surfing the web you can do things like multitask or use one app while downloading another. Whether your connection is wired or wireless, you can do a quick web search while you watch movies and TV shows, and enjoy TV while you chat with friends and family online. Along with built-in apps for services like Netflix®, Hulu Plus™, and YouTube™, you can download new ones from Samsung's large selection of apps.

Use your Samsung Galaxy phone or tablet for handheld viewing and control

Samsung's AllShare™ Play lets you wirelessly access and stream content from any compatible device. If you have a Galaxy S3 smartphone or Galaxy tablet, you can share movies, photos, and music via the UN55HU7250. Your Wi-Fi® network lets you do things like "toss" photos from your phone or tablet to the screen with the swipe of a finger. Or push streaming video like Netflix movies from device to screen.

Sending content from your phone to your TV is cool, and going TV-to-phone is even cooler. Just download Samsung's free Smart View app and use the TV View feature to mirror whatever's on the UN55HU7250's screen on any compatible smartphone or tablet. You can leave the room anytime without leaving your entertainment behind. It's like a whole-house TV system you can hold in your hand.

Samsung HW-H7500

This curved sound bar matches Samsung's 55" and 65" curved-screen HDTVs & Ultra HD TVs.

Add Samsung's matching sound bar for great sound and great looks

The UN55HU7250's picture quality is stunning; its sound quality, something less than stunning. Samsung gets it, and they developed a sound bar with a curving design that perfectly matches the TV screen's curve. The slender HW-H7500 has a 320-watt amplifier powering a total of eight built-in speakers as well as the separate wireless subwoofer. Speakers located on the ends of the sound bar create a bit of a wraparound effect.

Ultra-HD 4K Resolution w/ UHD Upscaling: The Samsung HU7250 series LED-LCD TV has a display resolution of 3,840 x 2,160 (4K) and will display all video at that resolution; regardless of input signal. The Ultra-HD TV even offers "HEVC" decoding, which means it'll be able to display 4K content from online movie & TV show providers (like Netflix). 4K provides 4x higher resolution than current 1080p high-definition TVs, ensuring a truly immersive experience for all your favorite movies and TV shows.  UHD Upscaling delivers the complete Ultra-HD picture experience with a proprietary process including signal analysis, noise reduction, UHD upscaling, and detail enhancement to seamlessly upconvert SD, HD, or full-HD content to Ultra-HD-level picture quality.

Note: You can upgrade this HU7250 series LED-LCD TV with Samsung's One Connect Box (sold separately) to unlock new features and services offered by Samsung Electronics. With the One Connect Box from Samsung, you can be update the TV with new software and technology that will adapt to future Ultra-HD standards and improve TV performance; faster speed, more content, more features. The One Connect Box simply plugs into the TV using a single proprietary cable.

LED-Edge Backlight w/ UHD Dimming: The Samsung HU7250 series LED-LCD TV uses LED-Edge backlighting with UHD Dimming to maximize the contrast between lights and darks for a picture that is as true-to-life as possible. The television's white LEDs are arranged along the left and right edges of the screen and a proprietary light guide is used to focus its luminance inwards towards the middle of the screen for a more uniform brightness. UHD Micro Dimming precisely scans an incredible amount of zones across the entire image and adjusts brightness to deliver deeper darks and brighter whites. It virtually eliminates the "halo" effect and image distortion, so you'll enjoy a crystal clear picture

Ultra-Clear Panel w/ Curved Screen: The Samsung Ultra Clear Panel absorbs ambient light, reduces reflections and lets the picture come to life. It displays deeper blacks and enhanced contrast for crystal clarity and reduces glare, so you can see clearly and enjoy more detail. Samsung's curved screen is supported with proprietary technology that creates an accurate picture with exceptional color, without any picture distortion. It has a dramatically improved

Clear Motion Rate 960: Clear Motion Rate (CMR) is Samsung's more comprehensive and accurate measure for how well the LED-LCD TV can display fast-moving images. Previously, motion clarity was expressed simply by the refresh rate, measured in Hz. CMR, however, takes into account all three factors that contribute to motion clarity: panel refresh rate, image processor speed and backlight technology. CMR is measured by determining the thinnest line a TV can display in a moving image. The thinner the line, the higher the CMR rating, and the clearer the picture you'll enjoy on the screen.

  • Panel Refresh Rate (Hz): Samsung's screen refresh rate (120Hz) significantly improves motion detail and resolution by sampling the image more frequently, leading to smoother, more fluid movement.
  • Auto Motion Plus: Samsung's proprietary Auto Motion Plus image processing technology is faster and more responsive than conventional image processors, as it interpolates intermediate frames to smooth out the image. Auto Motion Plus removes blur and judder from scenes with large amounts of rapid movement to provide a clearer picture. Auto Motion Plus  reduces blur so that action movies, sports and video games have enhanced clarity. Advanced panels and unique backlight technology combine with proprietary algorithms to reduce the response time and yield a more accurate image reproduction with faster onscreen motion. Auto Motion Plus can be set to Clear, Standard, Smooth, Custom, or Off.
  • LED Backlight Technology: Samsung's Edge-Lighting Backlight technology regulates output precisely in synchronization with the screen refresh to lessen the time it is lit, reducing ghosting and motion blur.

Wide Color Enhancer Plus: With Wide Color Enhancer Plus, you'll witness a wider spectrum of colors on the TV screen, just like the director intended. You'll enjoy enriched colors while watching your favorite movies, and shows, even if it's older, non-HD content.

Video Inputs: The Samsung Ultra-HD LED-LCD TV offers Ultra-HD, high-definition, and standard definition video inputs.

  • HDMI 2.0: The Samsung LED-LCD TV features four HDMI 2.0 inputs to connect to your Blu-ray/DVD player, Satellite/Cable receiver, or AV receiver. In addition, any HDMI input can be used to connect a PC to this TV. The television's HDMI inputs will accept 3,840 x 2,160 (24/60Hz), 1080p (24/60Hz), 1080i, 720p, 480p and 480i video signals.
    • HDCP 2.2: HDCP 2.2 is supported only by the TV's HDMI (MHL) input; HDCP is short for "High bandwidth Digital Content Protection" and is used for 4K video copyright protection for compatibility with 4K Blu-ray players and 4K Satellite/Cable providers.
    • 4:4:4 Color Subsampling: All four HDMI inputs will support up to 4:4:4 chroma subsampling for full color data rendering of 4K video; however the HDMI (MHL) input is limited to 30 fps in 4:4:4 mode. 4:2:2 (60/30fps) and 4:2:0 (60fps) is also supported by the TV. With 4:4:4 color, luminance (brightness) and chroma (color) are sampled at the same rate, resulting in an RGB color palette as big as the video sampling rate for a video image with more total colors, plus greater color accuracy and detail. You must enable 4:4:4 & 4:2:2 color subsampling by turning on the "UHD Color" setting within the TV's on-screen menu.
  • Analog: The Samsung LED-LCD TV features a single component video input which will accept 1080p (24/60Hz), 1080i, 720p, 480p and 480i video signals. The TV also features one composite video input which support up to 480i only.
Note: The TV feature a single RF-type coaxial input for connecting an external indoor/outdoor antenna. The unit has built-in over-the-air HDTV (ATSC) tuner, so you don't need a separate set-top box to receive and decode over-the-air HDTV/SDTV or unencrypted Digital Cable signals (up to 1080i).

HDMI (MHL) Port: The HDMI 3 port is designed for the connection of select mobile phones and other portable electronic devices using the new MHL (Mobile High-Definition Link) standard. Simply plug your MHL compatible smartphone into the TV's HDMI 3 (MHL) port using the HDMI cable that is included with your mobile phone. MHL allows you to display full 1080p video and still images on the Samsung TV from your mobile smartphone. The TV's IR remote can be used to control basic playback functions (such as Play/Pause, Stop Fast Forward/Rewind, and Menu navigation). Your MHL compliant device will also charge while connected to the TV's HDMI 3 port. To find MHL-certified devices, go to www.mhlconsortium.org.

  • Quad Screen: Using Quad Screen, you can view four independent screens at once through this TV. You'll be able to enjoy live TV, video clips, and the web all at once. Audio Features

DTS Premium Sound: The Samsung LED-LCD TV employs DTS Studio Sound processing with DTS TruSurround and DTS TruDialog which will decode DTS-encoded content, such as TV programming, Blu-ray movies, and streaming media, as well as processes stereo content to deliver an optimized virtual surround sound experience with enhanced bass response, clear dialog, and consistent volume levels through the TV speakers.

  • DTS TruSurround: DTS TruSurround is a patented DTS technology that solves the problem of playing 5.1 multichannel content over two speakers. DTS TruSurround delivers a compelling, virtual surround sound experience through any two-speaker playback system, including the internal television speakers. It is fully compatible with all multichannel formats.
  • DTS TruDialog: This function allows you to increase the intensity of a voice over background music or sound effects so that dialogue  can be heard more clearly.
Note: The speakers of this TV provide different sound images according to how you position the television. You can select between "Wall-Mount" or "Stand" to provide the best sound quality based on the television's placement.

5-Band EQ + Sound Modes: You can manually adjusts the TV's built-in 5-band EQ (100 Hz, 300 Hz, 1 kHz, 3 kHz, and 10 kHz) for a more customized sound; or simply choose from the following Preset Sound Modes - Standard (normal mode), Music (music mode), Movie (movie mode), Clear Voice (emphasizes voices), and Amplify (increases clarity for people who have difficulty hearing).

Audio Extras: The Samsung TV offers a variety of audio adjustments to meet your listening needs.

  • Auto Volume: Auto Volume automatically adjusts the volume of the desired channel, lowering the sound output when the modulation signal is high or raising the sound output when the modulation signal is low. This reduces the difference in volume when changing channels. The Auto Volume feature can be set to Normal, Night or Off.
  • Audio Delay: The Audio Delay function corrects audio/video mismatch, when watching TV or video, and listening to a digital audio output using an external device such as an AV receiver. You can adjust the audio delay from 0ms to 250 ms.
  • Picture Off: You can turn the television's screen off and still listen to audio.

Audio Outputs: The Samsung LED-LCD television provides an analog and digital audio output.

  • Digital Audio (w/ DTS Neo 2:5): The optical digital output terminal will output Dolby Digital/DTS (when available) or 2 channel PCM. The digital optical output terminal only sends an audio signal in Dolby Digital/DTS when receiving Dolby Digital/DTS surround sound from a digital broadcast channel through the tuner, network apps, and USB ports on the LED-LCD TV. The optical digital audio output will only output in 2ch stereo or a matrixed 5.1ch signal (DTS Neo 2:5) from sources connected to the TV via HDMI or RCA.
  • Analog Audio: The television features a 3.5mm (minijack) audio output for connecting the television to an analog 2-channel receiver. You will need a minijack-to-RCA adapter (sold separately) to make a stereo RCA connection between the television and your soundbar speaker or AV receiver. The TV's analog audio output terminals will output 2ch audio from any of the television's source inputs.

ARC (Audio Return Channel): The Audio Return Channel within the television's HDMI 4 input enables the TV, via a single HDMI cable, to send audio data "upstream" to an A/V receiver; increasing user flexibility and eliminating the need for any separate S/PDIF audio connection. This feature allows audio to be sent from the television to your A/V receiver through the same HDMI cable already being used to send audio/video to the television. This eliminates the need for extra cables connected to the TV. ARC allows audio from the TV tuner, Network connection, inserted USB device, HDMI inputs, or any analog connected device to be heard through your ARC compatible AV receiver via the television's HDMI ARC input. The audio from the TV's tuner, network connection, and USB port can pass as Dolby Digital or 2ch PCM. HDMI and analog connected devices will be output as 2ch PCM only.

Note: Both the television and the receiver must support ARC for this function to work properly. When connecting an A/V receiver that is compatible with Audio Return Channel (ARC), connect it to the TV's HDMI 4 input. If connecting a system that is incompatible Audio Return Channel (ARC), an additional audio connection via Digital Audio Out (Optical) is necessary.

SoundShare: The TV is compatible with the SoundShare feature found on some Samsung active soundbar speaker systems). SoundShare makes a wireless connection between the TV and the speaker system via Bluetooth. Once the two are paired, you can control the volume and mute the sound by using the remote control from the TV or the speaker system. If you change the soundbar speaker system from TV mode to another mode or turn it off, the TV audio will resume playing from the TV's speakers. SoundShare can be found on select Samsung active soundbar speaker systems (sold separately).

Q
Do you get the full benefit of the curve by purchasing only the 55" size? For those who have the 55" wish they spent more money getting the larger 65"?

I feel that we get the benefit of the curvature from every seat in our family room, some of which are a rather oblique angle. The seat that is most directly in front of the TV is about 15 feet away, the closest (and most off to the side) is about 10; the view from all is great. The only time we have any problem is in very bright sunlight but if we turn off the eco feature that dims the screen it is about 90% great (still some glare issues from the side). Do I wish I'd gotten the 65"? Don't we all wish we could get the biggest TV out there? We are very pleased with the 55". But watch out...in UHD a lot of you favorite actors/actresses are going to look less perfect than you thought (like going from a CRT to a regular HD).

Yes, I do for me the 55" works fine for the size of my living room. The 65" would be too big for me. The picture quality is amazing. So far the TV has been working flawlessly.

yes you do.. I fracking love it.you can see picture from any angle of room; plus the curved sound bad is fantastic sound!!!!!!!My next step will be to purchase the 78 inch style with curved soundbar; later.....

The total distance from my Samsung to my seating area is only 12 feet. Plus my living room is small, and the TV is the perfect width for my entertainment system. So I am very happy with the 55" curve. If you have a medium to large living room and you sit more than 10 feet from your TV then the 65" would probably be a better fit. When I watch a Blu-Ray movie with my 55" and my sound system, I am super happy with my Samsung. The screen is large enough for me. Go big if you have the space. Thanks.

I bought the 55" and while it might be nice for the "back of the room" to have gotten the 65" it would have overwhelmed my living room. The curve does make it look "bigger" at '65. So, it depends on the size of your room and optimal viewing. This is a stunning display at 55" and EVERYONE who I have had over during the holidays is in awe. I don't think you can go wrong with either size.

Thank you for asking. I can not compare, as I only have the 55" size. The 65" would have been too large for the space. We are totally satisfied with the 55" and are glad we made the purchase. If the area was larger, I'm sure the bigger screen would provide an additional benefit.

I am happy with my 55 inch. But if the room was compatible with a larger scree, I would have gotten larger

Hello Mitch, our family room, where the TV is located, is not large so the 55 inch is the correct size for the room. The picture is great. We had a Samsung 55 before so the new one is just the right size.

For my space it's great

I purchased the 7250 from Crutchfield last Thanksgiving on sale at $1299. I am happy with my purchase. My footprint would not accomodate a 65, but if yours does I would seriously consider it. On the other hand, the price was almost double at the time of my purchase. So..... The curvature feature is optimal if your viewing distance is less than 15 feet, which mine is.
don  Feb 16, 2015

I looked at the 65" at a local retailer....I think that you get the same benefit of the curved screen with the 55"....for me, the 65" would've been overkill in our den....also, the price difference was 3 to 400.00. My advice would be to look at then side by side at a showroom like Best Buy; and then ask yourself "is bigger really better?" Only you can answer that question....

Don't see a benefit. In fact, reflections are greater than with a flat screen.

The 55 inch is perfect for a bed room but for the living room the 65 inch is a must. Great TV though.

What size mounting bolts are used on the back side on the tv for a wall mount setup ?

I forgot to add to my comment above: be sure to disable all of the "eco solution" options under the "system" menu. Turn "energy saving" and "eco sensor" to the off position, and you'll be golden.
joseph  Nov 24, 2014

My understanding is that the port is the same for both. I also read that a 1.4 is all that is needed as all input is only HD - there are no UHD broadcast.

It has 4 hdmi 2.0 inputs. Awesome tv. The clarity is surreal.
