Samsung BD-P3600
Written By

I have had this player for about a month and have really enjoyed it. The wireless network setup was very easy and the whole installation took me about 10 minutes from box to watching. I have only used the player for DVD's and Netflix, but both of those have been fine. The load time for DVD's seems typical to me. Netflix loads slower, but not unacceptably slow considering that it is essentially streaming a near-DVD quality movie from the internet via a wireless connection. I have had a problem once with Netflix freezing, but that was when I tried to resume a movie that I had paused for a short break; I've had no problems watching movies straight through or stopping a movie and restarting later. It's a small issue to me that is far overshadowed by the convenience of Netflix access and the wireless capability. Overall, I've been very pleased with the unit and would recommend it to friends.
As usual, Crutchfield customer service was great and the order arrived within 3-4 days.

Too Many Unresolved Problems
Written By
Doug, Bangor, ME on Tuesday, January 19, 2010
In a nutshell, this is a unit with great potential but very poor functionality. I have been thru
two of them, and both have frozen up and permanently died. (by the way, Crutchfield has
been excellent in their response to these problems, Samsung has been terrible).
Samsung also offers an unusually short warranty, and if you buy this, I bet you'll need
the warranty. Other than the fact that they freeze up, there are a few other objectionable
designs. The soft touch buttons are "cool" at first but are actually very hard to use. They
are on top of the machine and hard to see and feel. The load time for a DVD or Netflix
movie is much slower than other players, and even before the player froze I would have
to restart it often due to firmware glitches. I switched to a Sony Blu-ray with internet
access (Netflix etc... but no Pandora). This needs to plug in to an ethernet port so you
have to have one close by or bring one in via a wi-fi bridge, which turned out to be quite
easy. This has been running well, and has better overall design.

Loads of features, minor software issues
Written By
Tom, North Jersey, USA on Tuesday, January 19, 2010
Was a little worried when I first purchased, as there are some pretty bad reviews out there. But I decided to take my chances as I wanted a blu ray player with wireless netflix capability. It does have some software issues- more on that later.
Pros:
netflix, blockbuster, pandora, youtube, and wireless dongle included
great picture quality- even on a 720p TV set
Great price from Crutchfield!
Cons:
There are software issues. BUT- make sure you check your firmware version before updating. If you update with same version of firmware already installed- I am sure that may cause major issues. I did not update the firmware as mine already had the most recent. The issues I've experienced are:
-continuous popping noise from speakers after a movie is done. It stops once you start another movie, or reset the unit. Not a big deal..
-Netflix streaming was getting hung up. Was not a connection issue- I have FIOS w/ 20 mbps. Resetting the unit solved the issue. Of the 10 movies I have streamed- it only happened once.
Summary:
Great features for the price. The software issues are a concern, but not a deal breaker. I trust that Samsung will be fixing the issues with later firmware releases. I did purchase the 1 year extended warranty just in case, and I'd recommend you do the same if buying this unit.. Overall, I am very pleased with this unit and the minor software bugs are not enough to warrant a negative review.
