Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Bought product in November 2010, and failed after 2 years.

Works but not always.

Written By cu52, Colorado on Thursday, September 29, 2011

I wanted a Samsung Bluray to match my TV. Have had several issues with this unit and playing blurays. It plain will not recognize that there is a disk in. Also have had issues with DVD's and the unit starting to go through the previews then stopping. have to do that 2-3x then it makes it through. Disks have been cleaned and there are no scratches or damage to them when this happens. I would not purchase this unit again especially for the price I paid.

Cool stuff, but don't forget the basics!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Some of the additional features are cool, like the internet apps, but this is my second Samsung player(1st BlueRay, other was older DVD) that just has occassional problems playing the simple disc... This is the PRIMARY reason the device exists. Sometimes, it won't open the drawer to load/unload the disc and sometimes it just won't start playing or not play beyond the goofy FBI warning screen. Lastly, while some of the Internat stuff is cool, why can't we have just a simple/basic/standard browser and not be forced into a propprietary format or internet "app". The thing is connected to a huge TV (monitor, really), so it would be perfect to surf the web, openly, with IE, Firefox, Chrome, or whatever... They don't make an app for even a small percentage of sites I visit, and sometimes I just want to read the darn website! Wake-up marketing people!

Great Choice

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

So far everything with this unit has been as advertised. The built-in wi-fi
connected effortlessly with my Linksys router. There was a little confusion on 2
items at first. Connecting with my component video cables, I have a 2nd gen
Samsung DLP screen with no 1080p and an Integra 6.2 receiver without HDMI.
Using the component video 1 input, the TV wouldn't display a picture with the
C6500 set to 1080i output. Samsung tech support couldn't explain the problem.
The TV has 3 component video inputs however I noticed while on the phone
with them a label above the TV's component video inputs that showed a 1080i
signal must be input through compoent video "IN" 2, not #1. I changed them and
fixed the problem. However, I could use the DVI input except that the HDMI
output and the audio optical outputs on the back of the C6500 are placed too
closely together--fat Monster Cable Toslink plugs won't clear the HDMI adapter
on my DVI cable plug which is why I must use a component video connection
instead of HDMI.

So far, so good. I bought this unit from Crutchfield knowing I would get tech
support superior to the mfr's but so far haven't needed it. I highly recommend
Crutchfield for anything they sell. Great catalogs too (i'm a former catalog writer)
and I always read them cover to cover. I'm a DIY guy and I appreciate their
helpful, collaborative spirit. Order from Crutchfield with confidence!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Wireless setup required a few attempts but eventually connected.
Also, seems to be on the slow side, but certainly acceptable.
Netfix interface is very good, similar features to my PS3 and much better than
my previous Sony N460 which was sub par.
Picture quality is very good. All in all, a very nice player especially
considering the price.

This inexpensive Blu Ray player was very easy to setup and it's wireless connection was
established within minutes. Setting up accounts such as Pandora, Netflix, etc was very
simple. The first night we watched Casino Royale and the disc player plus the inexpensive
Samsung plasma (PN42C450) really delivered excellent picture quality and the standard
speakers were fine, although I'm researching an inexpensive surround sound setup. I'm
very satisfied with the performance and ease of the disc player and am so glad to have
purchased wireless capability.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I love the quality of this player and everything about the setup was great except for
wireless networking. Recognized my wireless network, but could never get the
networking figured out. Called for support and was told to send the player back. I was
sure it wasn't a problem with the player and ended up replacing my wireless router.

Still was not easy -- had to manually enter the security key, but finally got connected.
Instructions for wireless set up are not helpful and support was not help at all. Once I
got that figured out, everything has been great!

This player was fine for playing Blu-Ray discs and DVDs. It was fast and the
picture quality was great. I was also interested in its ability to network with

Great product. Streaming media off the net is fun. I use Netflix and Pandora.
My download speed is 4k and the quality is great.

The Samsung has given no problems. User interface is easy and it just works.
Only problem is it does take a while to load a DVD.

I'd buy it again in a heartbeat.

This is a decent BR player, but the big hangup on this player is, hangs up. Often
times when loading a BR movie or an App like Pandora the player freezes up and won't
do anything until it's powered down completely and rebooted. I hope they release a
software patch soon to correct this problem, but I'm not going to hold my breath. I've
downloaded at least two software updates since I bought it an neither has fixed the
with freezing up.

The picture quality of this unit is good, and despite complaints I've read about how long
it takes to read a disc once inserted - this unit is much faster than any DVD player I've
I do have a few nits about this machine though:
1) The unit did not have the pandora app when I got it out of the box, and it was not in the
app store. I had to wait for an automatic update (happened the second or third day I
owned it) for it to appear as a farorite app (still not in app store).
2) It does not multitask at all (e.g. I can't play a sudoku app while I play music with the
pandora app)
3) Loading the internet apps seems slow.
4) The unit has lost the activation code for netflix and pandora a couple times, seems to
be related to an automatic system update - annoying.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The DVD playback works great. Wonderful color and clarity. I have a problem with the WiFi. I use a cable modem Linksys WCG200. It worked great when I first hooked the unit up but later it would not connect to netflix. When I checked the Mbps it was less that 1 and sometimes zero. I called Samsung and they told me that I should contact my internet provider. I called them and they told me that according to their system check it isn't their problem. Not only does the Wifi not work when the problem occurs but it knocks out the internet on my PC that is wired directly into the modem. I called Linksys and they told me that I need to upgrade to a better modem. I bought this unit because it specifically mentioned in a review that my type modem works well with this DVD Player. I have to constantly reset the modem or unplug the player to get it to work again but the problem comes back after a few uses.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I was originally pleased with the capability and options of this reasonably priced player. After about 2 months, it is starting to get very glitchy. I have to restart a DVD several times to actually get it to work, and even then I need to fast forward, etc, to get it going. The network connection would disconnect everytime I shut the unit off and I would have to go through the entire network setup cycle, but that seems to have gotten better after the last software upgrade.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is the first Blu-Ray player I have owned, but I am overall very pleased with the BD-
C6500. I had trouble getting it connected to my home wireless network because I was using
a 128-bit encryption key - but this unit did not allow a string that long, so I had to re-set my
network (and all other wireless divices - TiVo, PCs, iMac, Wii) to use a 64-bit key. This was
not only frustrating, but borderline maddening, because nobody at Samsung or Crutchfield
seemed to be aware that this was an issue. I had to figure it out myself. Once connected, it
works great for both discs and for services like Netflix. DVD image quality is excellent -
wondering if I even need to buy the Blu-Ray version.

Good Blueray

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Love this player just a few suggestions would be that it loaded the menu before the disc so you could chose to play disc or stream netflix which I do a lot of where as now you have to wait as it always tries to load a disc wasted time. Presently 1-23-11, you might want to verify there are no issues with upgrading firmware as it caused me a issue with unit and audio on Netflix which means each time I turn it on you have to adjust audio every timein order to hear movies on netflix if using a Surround Receiver like I do you have to change audio and then change it back in my case en code. Issue Samsung is working on, still it seems to give me the most options when using my THX surround receiver as far as optional THX Surround settings. DVD Drawer seems not as slow as some bluerays not sure why but some or past ones were slow. and it does have drawer open option on the remote a nice option for me to have it open as I walk over to change disc. I would recommend and bye again and have. Just hope Samsung is open to suggestions and fixes this new firmware issue. You might want to check firmware before installing apparently new is not always the way to go and I always have to learn the hard way. Minus one star for firmware and disc load vs menu load first would save player time when wanting to stream Netflix only not playing a disc.

being able to access youtube, netflix, blockbuster etc. It plays blu ray discs really well.

Singular negative is the limited number of Internet services that Samsung
''allows'' for this and other non-3D Blu-ray devices, without clearly and
conspicuously describing differences between models. ''Hulu'', for one source,
is sorely missed on this model. Hopefully Samsung will add more services with

I've had this for at least 6 months and am really impressed with its performance. It
takes some getting used to setting it up and updating it occasionally; but it's much
easier than most other wireless appliances that I've dealt with. We use it mostly for
Pandora to push music through our sound system, and it's really good at that; but we've
also done VUDU HD movies (acceptable) and used it as a Blu-Ray player, and it
functions much better than the old Panasonic Blu-Ray we had.

Finally got hooked into the internet after 10 hours of trying to hook it up WiFi and download
the firmware with a flashdrive. 75 feet, in my case, of ethernet cable hard wired between
the computer router and the Blue-ray player updated the firmware on the Blue-ray and all
other internet features of the TV in less than 5 minutes automatically. Forget the setup
manual. The Blue-ray player works as it should but I still won't recommend this product.
Spend your money elsewhere.

Really, Really Slow

Written By rbb, Austin, TX on Thursday, January 06, 2011

Got this about nine months ago now. It's really nice have native Wifi, and
there were no setup problems to speak of (I'm using HDMI through an Onkyo
receiver to a fairly old Panasonic plasma), and native Netflix is nice.

This thing is mind-bogglingly slow, in addition to being kinda buggy. It's not
uncommon for the first attempt at loading a Blu-Ray disc to cause either a menu
freeze or an "unsupportable format" message to show up, although second time's
usually the charm. And even when the disc does load, it's still very, very
slow. Add these two factors together and it's not uncommon to spend 3-5 minutes
before you get access to the top-level disc menu.

Other minor gripes: Vaguely stupid front-panel behavior: You can't power the
unit on by pressing "eject", and you can't close the disc tray by pressing play.
Also, no eject button on the remote.

I bought this unit fairly early in its life for its features and hoped that its
reputation for slow response would be fixed in a subsequent software upgrade.
Hasn't happened so far...

present. We decided on this model based on Samsungs reputation and some basic
internet research along with the existing reviews on Crutchfield. Set up was very easy.
Connected wirelessly to my network using the "AUTO" method and had no problems at
all without even opening the manual. The remote and method to enter passwords and
encryption code was a little frustrating,( like texting on a non texting phone...slow) but it is
what it is. Pandora is awesome - sound quality is outstanding running through my
Denon AVR 483. Netflix is Netflix. Youtube is pretty cool but the video quality on most
videos is average at best. Blowing it up to 46" HDTV just doesn't look that great.
VuDu is new to me, but so far so good. picture quality is excellent on the HDX
(1080p). Much larger selection of streaming videos that Netflix.
Crutchfield Customer Service, exceptional as usual. I had some trouble with the set up
of my surround sound moving from my DVD player to this Blue receiver is about
9 yrs old, has no HDMI inputs, and had to connect using either optical or RCA's.
Wanted Optical for the obvious sound quality difference but I just couldn't get it to work for
some reason. A couple calls later to Crutchfield and all was well. This is why I have
been a Crutchfield customer for 10 years+ and will always be.

Samsung BD-C6500 DVD Player

Written By Joel K., Illinois on Saturday, January 01, 2011

It would be wise to buy another brand. Have worked over 12 hours to get Wi-Fi
connection with no success. Don't take my word for it; search the net and you will find
the same complaints by many, many people. New firmware would not download to
player. Others have given up on the Samsung DVD player and bought other brands with
Wi-Fi setup time at ten minutes or less. Another great feature of my DVD player is
having to strike the remote keys multiply times to change a function.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This BD-C6500 unit was a replacement of a Samsung DVD/VHS player that was
working very well. But new technology with my Samsung LCD TV had me review many
comments by other customers to consider this model. As always, the Crutchfield folks
were great to work with in making this purchase. The set up was very easy and the
DVD's loaded very quickly. In connecting this unit to my Onkyo Home theater system
produced better sounds that were amazing. I would highly recommend this Blue-ray
disc player for the features it offers. I have not had a chance to try the wireless option yet,
but I am sure it will do fine. This is another winner from Crutchfield. Thanks.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Read a lot of the reviews and was nervous about this unit, but so far so good. Picture is great and the sound is even better. The internet hookup was a little tricky. I found the best way to get my WiFi signal (which is Bellsouth Fast Access) is to manually key in my encryption code vs all the automatic options. The interface is a little clumsy or else I'd give this 5 stars. I signed up for Pandora and Netflix and I'm streaming video with no issues at all! I have a older Linksys WRT54G router that's located upstairs from the blu-ray player and even with the encryption set at 128 bit it has a great signal and is streaming fine! Also, I needed a firmware upgrade and I've read horror stories about how players didn't work after the upgrade, but I upgraded mine via the WiFi and didn't have any issues. I did notice that the upgrade deleted my internet t.v. optional downloads...just a matter of downloading them again. No big deal.

Loading a DVD was quick unlike a lot of the complaints that I've read about and so far has played every DVD I've put in. I still have my older Samsung P1500 player hooked up to my other t.v. and have had no issue with that one, so buying my second Samsung DVD player wasn't a concern. All in all I think this is a very good player and well worth the price I paid for it!

I could not connect to my wireless network which used WEP security. Although the
player supposedly supports WEP, it would detect the network but would not connect.
I called Samsung and contrary to most of the negative reviews, they were helpful.
They told me to switch my router to WPA. I did that and the player connected.
I am now using Netflix, Pandora and Acuweather with no problem.

Wireless internet connection issues, GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE

Written By Derek, Illinois on Friday, December 10, 2010

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

First, I specifically purchased the Wi-fi enabled version in order to connect to Netflix, etc.,
but the auto-connect feature didn't work with my wireless network (Apple Airport Extreme
Router), and I couldn't get it working with the manual setup either. When looking for a
solution online, I found other articles/reviews with others having the same issue with this
player with no resolution, so that's when I decided to return it.

I even purchased one of the Sony Wi-fi blu-ray player after I returned this one, and it
connected automatically with no issues. Anyways, the real reason that I'm writing this
review is because I accidentally returned the player with one of my own blu-ray DVD's still
inside. I noticed that it was missing a few days after I had already shipped everything
back. I decided not to call customer service because I figured it would be my word vs.
theirs, and that it was going to be a lost cause, so I just chalked it up to my dumb
mistake. Well, I just received an order confirmation today via email that apologized for an
issue with my order, and that they were shipping my "media" that was accidentally left in
the player back to me free of charge. I've been ordering from Crutchfield for years, and
was always happy with the service, but this goes above and beyond what I have come to
expect. I can't praise them enough for this one.

Great player for the $$$ - Internet features great

Written By Robert, Woodbury, MN on Saturday, December 04, 2010

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Functionally this player is well stocked with plugged aps; I primarily use it for Pandora and
Netflix; both stream without issue (using Comcast with a Netgear dual band "n"). Picture
quality is great with HDMI. (don't know why companies put RCA cables in the box anymore.)

Connections with the wifi went without issue (strongly suggest "n" as does the users
manual) and I was initially hesitant to purchase reading all the previous issues in the
reviews but took the chance. Connection was completed without using the manual, so the
menus are reasonably intuitive (if you are tech "savvy") however the interface with the unit
(entering data, passwords, etc.) is cumbersome.

Great player and well worth the money.

Great..but SLOW to load

Written By Matter, Chicago, IL on Thursday, November 11, 2010

This is a great mid-level player. I love the Wi-Fi built in feature so I don't also need the Wi-Fi adapter to go with my Samsung 58" plasma TV.

On the downside, the load speed is quite slow. But - I can deal with that. I load the disc, run to the kitchen to grab some popcorn and come back just in time.

I purchased this player mainly for Netflix streaming and am very disappointed. It works
great for DVD playing but terrible for internet streaming. It works on occasion but is very
unreliable fom one time to the next. Samsung tech service had the same solution the 7
or 8 times I called--- reboot the cable modem, router and player . This would
sometimes work and other times not. I get messages like: (Model Info In Upgrade File
Does Not Match Player). The firmware was upgraded but did not help. Often with a
strong signal it would not connect to the internet even though it showed a strong signal
from my network. I gave up.

This unit loads blueray fast and has a wonderful picture, even with RGB cable

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I just love my Blu Ray BD-C6500 player - before buying I did a lot of research, read reviews on all brands and models and I know for a fact I made the right decision - plus I checked around for prices and for the price from Crutchfield was a deal!! Of course I had to rent a Blu Ray DVD movie; the picture quality is unbelievable (I LOVE IT). I have a 74" Samsung big screen TV and an Onkyo surround sound theater system - OH MY GOD you really think you're inside a movie theater. The picture quality is so clear and the sound from my Onkyo theater system will BLOW YOU AWAY!! I read that having the Samsung Blu Ray player along with a 1.4 HDMI cable will give you a better picture and better sound and that's true! I replaced my 1000HD Monster HDMI cable with a 1.4 Audioquest Cinnamon HDMI cable (I thought my Monster Cables could never be replaced). I purchased 2 HDMI cables from Crutchfiled. I plugged one from my Blu Ray player to my receiver and the second I plugged from my Blu Ray player to my Television. I noticed right away a huge difference in the sound now coming from my Home Theater System. People if you have a Home Theater system please replace it with the 1.4 Audioquest Cinnamon HDMI cable because the Blu Ray really does require this to give you that awesome sound and a clear picture. There is one more thing I really love about my BD-6500 player is that you could have it set where it doesn't show the black bars when watching a movie. I really hate to see half of a picture!

Good Player

Written By Johan G., Los Angeles,CA on Tuesday, September 07, 2010

So far, I have not even play a blue ray disc yet! Can you believe that? Well this player has several and very cool AppS. Pandora, Netflix, Blockbuster, The Weather application, facebook and other. I connected this Blue Ray to my home network wirelessly. The "Auto" function did not work well so I simply did it manually. Eitherway you need to know your IP addresss, subnetmask and gateway number. (If you do not know them, simply go online and type " how do I find my ip address" ). (By the way it does have the VUDU apps so you can download HD movies with this player). One last thing, the manual is not like a ten step recipe that you can simply follow and be done, one has to flip back and forth to get things done. Just have patience and you should be fine. Oh yeah the "All Share Funtion" is something that enables you to play musi, video and photo files in your PC using the player and requires you to go to the Samsung site to download it with your computer. It probably won't work because samsung is having some tech. difficulties with this function. What you have to do is just "chat" with one of the samsung representatives and he or she will give you and address where you can download and install this "share manager", that's it. Don't try to call! Just chat with them is faster. In conclusion, i really like this player so far and happy for having purchased it at Crutchfield a place where one can always find somebody to help you out.

Would Recommend.

First, it was easy to set up including adding the TV to my home wireless network. Second, I would strongly recommend getting an HDMI cable. When I first set it up I was using a series of 5 separate component cables that my Cable company had given me. There were problems with the picture quality that disappeared when I got an HDMI cable. I have used the netflix streaming feature with good success; although you have to sign in on your computer each time. This is my first HD-TV so I'm really amazed by the quality especially sports.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This product, combined with a Netflix account, has completely changed how we watch
TV. The internet services on the Samsung BDC6500 are outstanding (we have Cox
Cable with a 12Mbps internet service) and we have been enjoying instant access to
movies and TV series - without the ads!
We are using the Wi-Fi connection, which was very quick and easy to set up.
The blu-ray player is excellent and very quick to load - faster than any other player I've
seen. The picture and sound quality are first rate.
The unit is visually pleasing, with piano black finish and extremely low profile - you have
to look carefully at my stacked shelves of equipment or you'll miss it!
I recommend this player without reservation.

Spotty performance

Written By MattS, Dallas, TX on Wednesday, August 18, 2010

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Install and setup was easy, so no complaints there. However, the performance of the unit has been lacking. The unit usually hangs about 10-20 seconds into each disc. A quick two pushes of the eject button usually fixes this, without even touching the disc in the machine.

Another problem is that the wireless seems to be very spotty. The unit is on the main floor but the router is upstairs, at most 15 feet away through the drywall ceiling and wood floor. When trying to watch a movie on my queue, I often fail to detect the network entirely, fail to load the movie or fail during watching the movie. The failure rate is about 50% here as well. I'd fault the router but my computers do not have this connectivity issue.

A Netflix disc prompted me to write this review. The disc had intermittent sound and broken pixelated video, like the unit was unable to decode the disc. I thought it might be a problem with the disc since they aren't always in pristine condition, but my wife's old $100 6" screen portable player played that same disc absolutely fine.

The picture is fine but the sound isn't great. I have an older Dolby stereo unit with only two channel inputs, and when I set the user settings to simple 2-channel stereo output, I don't hear anything out of the center, surround and rear channels. I would expect that the option to send out simple 2-channel stereo output would exist for backward compatibility of people like me.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I've had this player for a couple of weeks now and I'm really pleased with it. I purchased it to replace an older blue ray player that would take forever to load up blue ray movies and also had problems reading some of the newer blue ray discs.

Setup was easy (didn't even use the manual). I have a wireless network and getting this player on the network was pretty simple. You just need to enter your network key and run the network tests and you're good to go. The first time through my network tests failed, but I reran the tests and it succeed the second time around. After that, I setup the apps and everything was ready to roll. If I remember correctly, there are prompts that walk you through most of the setup.

I use this player to watch blue ray movies, stream netflix and audio from pandora.

For blue ray discs, it loads quickly and plays all of our movies, including the newer ones my older blue ray player had problems with, without a hitch.

Pandora and netflix work great. You'll need to "activate" your account for streaming to your player, which is a really simple process.

After power on, you'll need to give the player a little time to connect to your network before accessing the online content. I give it like 10 secs to get online. The buttons in front are touch sensitive. There's no tactile input from pushing them.

This is a great player at a great price. I definitely recommend it. Purchasing through Crutchfield was, as always, a great experience.

Upgraded from upscaling DVD player, connected with HDMI to Panasonic plasma. Player turns on and loads discs quickly, which is what bugged me with the old one (a Sony), it was slow. Setup was a snap, hooked up with both optical and ext 5.1 to Denon receiver. Avatar on DVD looks fantastic, upscaling works great. Using wired ethernet for network, Netflix looks terrific, just as good or better than pc connected to tv at 1080p also via HDMI. Haven't tried network sharing but will. Very quick, very good quality picture and sound, overall quite pleased so far.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

My second blu ray player, I've had this for a week now and really no complaints. Set up
was easy and quick, firmware updated itself, the wireless connection was a breeze.
Disk load times range from very fast to perfectly acceptable depending on the blu ray
data. BR and regular DVDs look great. Plugged in a Seagate USB drive and it was
recognized right away, playing the videos, music and pictures. Set up Nexflix and
Pandora in 5 mins (have a computer handy). Overall the player is sleek and attractive
with a ton of features for the price. Can't wait to try the Vudu hi def on demand video
rental. When the app store expands it will be even better. I watch a lot of training videos
from Youtube and it's great to have them on the big screen.

A few minor quibbles: On start up the first try at network setup hung the player, fixed by a
power cycle. Finished quickly after that. Some apps did not work out of the box but were
OK after the firmware upgrade (nearly automatic). The menu to switch between USB
and disk is a little clunky. Deleted some apps which reappeared later. The remote is
somewhat toy-like in design and could use a slide out keyboard. Overall if you are not
looking for 3D capability I highly recommend it.

As someone who more & more is relying on reviews to help me decide on technical purchases like this, I feel obliged to uncharacteristically offer one of my own. I opened the box, connected the Blu-Ray player, easily performed the configuration process including connecting it to my network. As my home entertainment system is 3 floors away from my router & being influenced by some of the negative reviews associated with wireless, I did a direct connect using a network extender. It found my network, & was included in it with absolutely no intervention from me. It automatically started an update which included updating the online apps. Not a glitch. The picture is excellent! The sound is excellent! Netflix instant movies are very, very good. Less than a minute to load & play a Netflix movie (I have an 18 gig cable internet connection). I had a Sony 1st generation Blu-Ray. It would take minutes to load some movies. I've yet to encounter a Blu-Ray movie that loads in more than a few moments. I am completely satisfied with this product.

Excellent Player - Confusing Wireless Setup

Written By Rich, Lawrenceville, NJ on Thursday, April 29, 2010

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The BD-C6500 was an upgrade for the Samsung BD-P2500, which could not connect wirelessly to the Internet. This was a worthwhile upgrade anyway because load time on the BD-C6500 is significantly faster and because the picture quality is slightly improved .

My two chief complaints are the user-unfriendly manual and the complexity of the Internet setup. I needed assistance of two Crutchfield technicians to navigate the setup, especially since what appears in the manual does not match exactly what one sees on the TV screen during setup. In fact, the first technician concluded that the player I had been shipped was defective. (There was nothing wrong with the first player; the problem was in understanding the setup menu and the confusingly written Samsung manual.)

The chief problem is with the use of the virtual keyboard used to enter the WEP key. This keyboard is anything but intuitive, and the instructions in the manual are at least confusing and possibly, in some respects, misleading. Thus, if you purchase this unit, be prepared to need some help from a Crutchfield technician to get it fully operational. Samsung support is nonexistent.

Once you jump these hurdles, however, this unit is an excellent Blu-ray and DVD player. It is also great for downloading movies and for using such extra features as Pandora radio.

I Love It

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

First off I have had the Panasonic BD 80k, which streams Amazon video on demand. The problem with this is when the video is streaming it is in real time and doesn't download some of the movie ahead, which means you get many pauses. Not all the time, but enough to be aggravating. Now on to the Samsung BD-C6500-You have Netflix, Blockbuster, and my favorite VUDU. With VUDU everything is available in HD and HDX, which is for people that have the TVs that support 24fps and 1080p and if you do you can utilize this with VUDU. This is how the movies are played in the theaters. Also with Vudu you pay for what you want to see and have it for 24hrs unless you buy it. Every movie is available when it come out. This is one of the main reasons I bought this Samsung to replace my Sony S550 for the movie rentals. There is Pandora radio as well. Now I love everything about this player video and audio is impeccable. The player itself has basically a touch panel with the emblems for power, open-close, stop, play/pause and they are very responsive to light touch. Complaints are only these- I have had a couple of instances when using BD Live and some of the Apps where the unit freezes, which requires the unit to be powered off and back on and my firmware was updated as I was setting it up. Still with this small issue this unit is worth getting...The 5500 is the same except it doesn't have the 7channel analog output, which I needed.
