Features
Inputs and Outputs Note
Features
HD Upconversion: The DVD-HD841
has the ability to upconvert a standard DVD signal to HD-compatible 720p, 768p,
or 1080i and pass it through the DVI output; upconverted signals are not passed
by the component video output.
Video D/A Converter:
This player uses a 54MHz/10-bit video digital-to-analog converter. This
high-bit, high sampling D/A converter helps to reduce digital artifacts to give
you a better picture.
Audio D/A Converter:
This player features a 192kHz/24-bit audio
digital-to-analog converter.
PCM Down Sampling: You can
select a PCM Down Sampling setting of On or Off. When On is selected and you are
playing a DVD recorded in 96kHz, the signal is down converted to 48kHz/16-bit
before it is passed through the digital outputs. When No is selected and the
unit is playing a non-copy-protected DVD recorded in 96kHz, a 96kHz/24-bit
signal passes through the digital outputs. If the DVD is copy-protected, the
digital signal is automatically down converted. When playing DVD-Audio discs
recorded in 192kHz or 176.4kHz, the signal is always down converted to 96kHz or
88.2kHz before it is passed through the digital outputs.
Progressive Scan Output:
Progressive-scan video has less flicker and fewer motion artifacts than the
traditional interlaced-scanning method, resulting in a superior picture. To take
advantage of this feature, you must have a television with component video
inputs that supports the progressive scanning mode. The component outputs on
this unit can be set to pass either progressive or interlaced video.
Built-in Decoders: This unit
has built-in Dolby Digital and DTS decoders.
Digital Bass Management:
This unit has built-in bass management that allows you to adjust the speaker
size when using the 5.1-channel output.
2-Channel and Multichannel SACD
Playback: In addition to standard 2-channel CD playback, this unit will play
2-channel and multichannel Super Audio CDs. During SACD playback, the digital
outputs do not operate; the analog outputs must be connected to listen to SACDs.
There is one set of stereo RCA outputs for standard 2-channel playback, and
there is a set of 5.1-channel RCA for multichannel playback. For multichannel
playback, the 5.1-channel outputs must be connected to a multichannel input on a
receiver or preamp.
Multi-Channel DVD-Audio Playback:
DVD-Audio is a multi-channel format used for high
resolution audio recording. This unit can decode and play DVD-Audio discs with a
sampling rate up to 192 kHz with a 24-bit word length.
MP3 Playback: This unit will
play MP3 files recorded onto CD-R and CD-RW discs using the ISO 9660 or Joliet
formats. MP3 files with a compression rate from 128-320 kbps and WMA files with
a compression rate from 64-192 kbps are supported. Each disc can have a maximum
of 3000 files and 300 folders.
JPEG Playback: This unit will
play JPEG files recorded onto CD-R discs using the ISO 9660 or Joliet formats.
All JPEG files on a disc can be played back in a slide show. The slide show has
a selectable interval that can be set to 6 seconds, 12 seconds, or 18 seconds.
You can zoom in on any selected image (2x or 4x) or rotate an image 90-degrees
clockwise. Each disc can have a maximum of 3000 files and 300 folders.
Zoom: The Zoom function allows
magnification (2x or 4x) of selected screen areas, without distortion, even as
the movie is playing. You can move the zoomed image around the screen.
EZ View:
The EZ View feature allows you to adjust the aspect ration in the following
ways:
- Using a 16:9 TV
- For 16:9 Aspect Ratio
Discs:
- Wide Screen:
Displays the content of the DVD title in 16:9 aspect ratio
- Screen Fit: The
top and bottom of the screen are cut off. When playing a 2.35:1
aspect ratio disc, the black bars at the top and bottom of the
screen will disappear. The picture will look vertically stretched.
- Zoom Fit: The top,
bottom, left and right of the screen are cut off and the central
portion of the screen is enlarged.
- For 4:3 Aspect Ratio
Discs:
- Normal Wide:
Displays the content of the DVD title in 16:9 aspect ratio. The
picture will look horizontally stretched.
- Screen Fit: The
top and bottom of the screen are cut off and the full screen
appears. The picture will look vertically stretched.
- Zoom Fit: The top,
bottom, left and right of the screen are cut off and the central
portion of the screen is enlarged.
- Vertical Fit: When
a 4:3 DVD is viewed on a 16:9 TV, black bars will appear at the left
and right of the screen in order to prevent the picture from looking
horizontally stretched.
- Using a 4:3 TV

stopped. The stopping point is cleared when the Stop button is pressed more than
once or the disc tray is opened.

up to 3 scenes at a time.
Inputs and
Outputs Notes
DVI (Digital Visual Interface)
Output: The DVD-HD841 has a DVI-I jack for connecting a compatible TV or
monitor. This player supports HDCP (High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection)
technology, which provides secure data transmission for high definition video.
Only DVI-HDCP supported devices can be connected. A 6.25' DVI cable is supplied.
Note: Though the player
has a DVI-I connector, the only signal output from the DVI-I connector
is digital.
