Samsung's versatile HT-BD1250 system gives you lots of options for personalized entertainment. You can enjoy spectacular Blu-ray picture quality and movie and music streaming via the Internet, all accompanied by the engaging surround sound of a five-speaker system. At the center of this space-efficient system is a sleek console unit featuring touch-sensitive controls and a subtle red accent on the top to complement Samsung's popular Touch of Color HDTV models.
High-definition picture and sound
The receiver's built-in Blu-ray player delivers a stunning high-definition picture that'll look great on your HDTV. The player can even upconvert your standard DVD collection to give all your old favorites new life. It also supports the newest surround sound formats, like Dolby® TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio, for realistic wraparound sound to match the picture. And for your everyday TV viewing, Samsung's Smart Volume keeps listening levels steady to tame overly loud peaks so no more annoyingly loud commercials during your TV shows.
More entertainment options with movie and music streaming
The 'BD1250 lets you take full advantage of a Netflix or Blockbuster subscription you can rent Blu-ray or DVD movies by mail, and use the instant video streaming feature for spontaneous viewing. Or sit back and watch a few YouTube videos streamed right to the 'BD1250. And for a fresh source of music, Pandora's Internet radio service creates on-the-fly playlists based on your musical tastes. Add the optional Wi-Fi® adapter, and you can take advantage of this system's online capabilities without the mess and hassle of running Ethernet cable.
Slip your iPod® or iPhone into the included dock and listen to your music collection through the speakers. And a handy USB port lets you pop in a thumb drive full of photos, music, or video clips for playback on the system.
A budget-friendly design that's also environmentally friendly
The front and center speakers sport separate woofers and tweeters made of kelp. The lightweight material responds quickly to the powerful amplifier, helping these speakers produce crisp, dynamic sound. A separate 6-1/4" subwoofer pumps out satisfying bass to round out the sound. The system's reduced energy consumption meets EnergyStar® standards a big plus if you're watching your ecological footprint and your budget.
Enjoy rich, robust sound that puts you right in the middle of your favorite movies, TV shows, and video games. Powered home theater systems come with speakers and a subwoofer plus the amplification to drive them. Many of these systems feature low-profile consoles and ultra-compact speakers for minimal visual clutter. Some include a built-in Blu-ray/DVD player for enjoying movie and concert discs.
First, right out of the box the center channel speaker would buzz or be distorted even at low volume. After Samsung sent me a replacement speaker, the sound going to both front speakers would cut out completely or be muffled. Next, when changing from watching cable TV to the Blu-Ray player sometimes the unit will just switch off on its own. I have sent the entire system into Samsung for testing and repair. Once I get the system back and try it out, I will add to my review, but so far, I am not happy with this purchase at all.
I have purchased two of these and am astounded at the sound quality for how little it cost! Totally fills the room with superb sound from the highs to the lows! The built in Pandora is awesome as well as the Netflix. Extremely easy to set up!
If you are looking to spend around the cost of this system...you will NOT regret it!
I am a little disappointed at the audio performance of this unit. In particular even after audio level adjustments are made, the rear surrond channels very rarely output any significant audio that would enhance the enjoyment of Bly Ray movies. I have tried various Blu Ray titles with the same poor results. If one could force the matrix sound mode it would help. But you can only set forced surround sound when a 2 channel audio source is available. (most of the time the 2 channel source on the Blu ray disks I have viewed contain the director's comments. If I had not already thrown away the packing material, this unit would have gone back....
At first use, it seemed to be a very good system...however, after prolonged use...these are the issues that continually crop up: 1. Sound "cut out" problems-When watching cable or tv feed, the sound would cease working randomly, and it would stop working altogether when changing channels. My fix would be to flip channels and then the sound would engage again. 2. Decrease in volume during commercials...while this isn't necessarily bad, if you have an occasion to actually listen to the commercial, you must turn the sound up to hear - and then get blasted by sound when the program starts again. 3. Operation of the functions from the remote a little tricky...(a)When I insert a DVD, but then decide I am not ready yet to watch - I cannot stop the DVD from playing until it gets to the Title menu. None of the remote buttons work, and I have to physically turn off the receiver in order to stop the DVD from playing. (b)Also, when in DVD mode, it's impossible to get the function mode back to TV audio to listen to the tv without turning off the receiver.(c) This is very strange, but the receiver randomly turns off... This system does not allow you to control your iPod from the iPod screen - and are unable to shuffle your music. The system defaults to alphabetical by artist or by song, depending on what you are listening to (playlist). Overall, I give it three stars...
The blue ray player works great although with a couple frustrations:
1. The player will only play Blue Ray CDs thru the HDMI connection. If you want to watch standard CDs you must turn of the Samsung "Anynet" function Samsung TV to the "off" position and use your component inputs. It took me forever to figure this out and is still a little unwieldy.
2. Neither the on-screen menu, nor the speakers allow you to control the bass and treble response of the system, so you are basically at the mercy of the ears of the designers with regard to tone balance. To my ears the highs just arn't there and there's nothing I can do about it.
With regard to the speakers:
1.The sound certainly fills a normal room. I'd be fairly happy with it if I could control the tone balance with the exception of the next issue below.
2. The center front speaker looks, feels, and sounds like a $5 computer speaker. It actually sounds like one of those speakers we used to put in our car window at the drive-in movies. It's very thin sounding and it is often difficult to understand what the acters are saying when watching a movie. Again, no highs, nor crispness that is required to hear speech clearly.
Bottom line, This system was a mistake for me.
