Samsung was one of the first TV makers to master DLP (Digital Light Processing) and continues to build the widest selection of DLP-based big-screen TVs. The HL-R4667W is part of their compact "67-series" line, which boasts impressive innovations inside and out.
The "floating screen" styling is a new look for Samsung note the narrow gap separating the screen and base. The black bezel that frames the screen makes the TV's razor-sharp images really pop.
Deep inside this set is one of Texas Instruments' latest DLP image chips. This chip replaces the three picture tubes used in old-style big-screen TVs. A single chip means that precise image focus is locked in; it will never drift out of alignment and require adjusting. The other parts of Samsung's "light engine" include the optics, projection lamp, and a high-speed color wheel. Together, they create bright, crisp, filmlike images with rich, robust colors. Among digital big-screen types, DLP reproduces deep black and shadow details best.
This "Digital Cable Ready" HDTV can receive over-the-air and cable HDTV programming without a separate tuner box. (To get the most from the TV's built-in cable tuner, you'll need a CableCARD from your local provider.) The built-in TV Guide On Screen program guide means you don't have to hunt for the newspaper listings to find out what's on. The TV automatically downloads 8 days' worth of channel listings for your local broadcast and cable stations. There's no monthly fee, and no phone connection is needed.
The HL-R4667W has an extremely flexible, future-ready "jack pack." For high-res sources, you're covered both for now and in the future, with two HD-compatible component video inputs, an HDMI input, plus two digital IEEE 1394 ports for high-def playback and recording. The standard PC input lets this set double as an oversized computer monitor. It's perfect for that job because DLP TVs are totally immune to screen burn-in.

Samsung HL-R4667W Reviews
Average Customer Review:
Grood Product when it works!
I've had this tv now for 8 months and its been serviced twice (3 service calls in total.) You need an extended warranty with this product. From time to time it will take upto an hour or more before it comes on, if at all. Typically it take about 20-40 sec. Very good sound system and picture quality, but disappointed and fraustrated with the reliabilty. (its not a car, why should reliabilty be an issue).
My man's in the living room watching the Superbowl on this tv right now, and even though I can't stand sports, I still find myself in there watching it, simply because it looks so completely amazing!
The television was compact for its screen size, verylightweight, easy to install, and looks absolutely gorgeous in our furniture. I've found the picture quality to be quite incredible, depending on a good HD source, of course.
All in all, I would buy this tv all over again. Love it, love it, love it.
I purchased the Samsung 46 DLP about 2 months ago and I have found that you do get what you pay for. When you purchase this as is, I dont think this has the best image quality and reliability has yet to be determined, i feel the value of the TV is aweosme. I have overcome most of my image quality problems by upgrading all my conncections with Monster component connection (MV2CV-2M) to my DVD player and a Monster HT800. These two products have greatly enhanced the resolution and color clarity. I highly recommend these two products to make the image quality better. I recommend placing seating about ten feet away. As far as features are concerned, i find it to have enough features that are easy to use and are easily understood. It doesnt contain features and settings that are meaningless like other more expensive models. I feel this product has exceptional quality.
Samsung DLP Awesome picutre
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)
This is my first purchase of a HD television. Samsung reallly has put an excellent product in the market. Being a novice to this whole HDTV thing you cannot go wrong with selecting this line of Samsung DLP. The picture quality is great and I am also impressed with the functionality of the TV. You can't go wrong for the price vs plasma and the DLP provides better viewing angles than the LCD HDTVs I was considering. I use a cable card for my HD channels. I give this TV high marks for quality and design. It has a lot of connectivity most notably HMDI. I am impressed with my purchase.
Skeptical at first!
I initially wanted the Sony 42"or 50" 655 models. However, they will not fit in my armoire. The Samsung fits perfectly. I was hesitent to purchase it because all I ever bought is Sony. I have one word for the Samsung, AWESOME!!!
I have had it one week. The HD2+ chip provides a spectacular picture. HD picture is unbelievable and I am running it through Cable via a component connection. ESPN HD and Discovery HD are superb. It feels like your there. I was watching a documentary on Discovery HD. My wife asked me what I was watching. I told her who cares it's in HD. The clarity is mind numbing.
Everyone says satellite is better. I was also hesistent about getting cable. It did not disappoint. Through the HDMI connection I have the Samsung 850 upconverter DVD player. The DVD also displays an excellent picture when you upconvert to 720p or 1080i.
I just moved and have not connected my receiver yet. The stereo sound the TV produces is also excellent. The only downside is that some analog cable channels dont look as great. That is not the TV's fault, though. The floating screen also looks great. In my armoire it looks like a plasma screen.
lacking HD clarity
This Samsung is overall a pretty good TV. It does a much better job than the sony rear proj lcd with image breakup. Pixelization is limited compared as well. The only thing i dont really care for is the picture for high def channels. The sony blows it away, however i do believe dlp is the way to go(no convergence errors.) I purchased 2 42" sony rplcd, this years and last, returning both. I returned the samsung as well. This time im going with the 52" mitsubishi dlp(wd52525.)

CableCARD Slot: This TV has a back panel CableCARD slot that allows digital cable reception without a set-top box. CableCARDs will be available from your local cable provider.
HDTV (ATSC) Tuner: The TV has a built-in over-the-air HDTV (ATSC) tuner, so you don't have to purchase a separate digital set-top box to receive and decode over-the-air HDTV/SDTV signals.
DLP Projection System: DLP (Digital Light Processing) technology by Texas Instruments is the only display solution that enables projection systems to create a purely digital connection between a digital video or graphic source and the screen in front of you. While all other technologies are analog and compromise some image quality in translation, DLP projection unleashes the full potential of high-quality video content.
Cinema Smooth 720p Light Engine: Samsung's Cinema Smooth 720p light engine creates an image with no visible pixel structure and accurate shading and better low-light detail.
Next Generation DLP Chip: The new-generation microdisplays have switching speeds twice as fast as previous generations and up to 1,000 times faster than competing microdisplay technologies. When combined with Samsung's new Cinema Smooth 720p light engine, the result is a crisp, bright picture with deep, rich colors that are closer to film.
Fast Color Wheel: Samsung's 2.6" color wheel spins at 10,800 rpm for smooth fast-motion video, and has seven color segments for more accurate colors. It achieves film-like transitions without pixel breakup found in slower color wheel designs and slower switching LCD microdisplays.
Digital Natural Image Engine (DNIe): Samsung's exclusive Digital Natural Image engine makes the sharpest and clearest images possible, regardless of the profile of input signals. Five image processors and a six-times density enhancer ensure the best picture from any source:
Six-times Density Enhancer: displays extremely high-resolution pictures that are six times as dense as the original sample rate for sharper images
Motion Optimizer: fast-moving images are optimized to produce more natural-looking motion, thus reducing video noise or blurring
Contrast Enhancer: brightness and contrast levels are enhanced for deeper, richer blacks with greater detail, and more natural whites
Detail Enhancer: DNIe analyzes video signal elements in order to produce sharper detail, clearer image separation and more natural edge transition
Color Optimizer: colors are reproduced with a more lifelike realism, whites are more accurate, and skin tones are given a more natural hue
My Color Control: you can get the pink tones, the green of the grass and the blue of the sky just the way you like, without affecting the other colors on the screen. The three major colors can be adjusted to perfectly fit your taste.
Cinema Mode: Samsung's Cinema Mode lets you see colors the way the director intended, by matching them more closely to production standards. This creates more accurate colors and natural skin tones when viewing Hollywood movies on your TV.
Cinema Smooth Film Mode 3:2 Pull Down: Powered by Samsung's Cinema Smooth technology, 3:2 Pull Down eliminates the artificial frames that are created when films are converted to DVDs. The result is a clearer image without the subtle motion artifacts caused by 24-to-30 frames per second video conversion.
TV Guide On Screen System: The TV Guide On Screen system is a free, interactive, on-screen program guide built into the TV that lists schedules and information for TV programs in your area. The TV Guide On Screen system includes the following features:
- Listings Service: The system displays eight days of local program listings and descriptions from broadcast and cable. You can tune to any program, schedule a program to record, or set a reminder.
- Search: You can search for programs alphabetically, by keyword, or by category. Within the categories, you can sort by show type, show title, or starring actor.
- One-touch Recording: To record, you can simply highlight a program title and then press a single button on the remote control. The system will automatically record the program. Programs may be set to record one time or every time they air.
- Reminder: You may set reminders to ensure that you never miss your favorite program. Reminders can even be set to automatically turn on the TV when a program begins.
Picture Modes: You can choose one of the following picture modes:
- Standard: resets the standard factory settings
- Dynamic: for viewing the TV during the day, or when there is bright light in the room
- Movie: for viewing the TV in low light, or when playing video games
- Custom: allows you to adjust and store the following settings: contrast, brightness, sharpness, color, tint, and color tone
Color Weakness Enhancement: The Color Weakness Enhancement feature adjusts the Red, Blue, or Green color to enhance the picture according to the user's particular color weakness.
Picture Sizes: You can choose one of the following picture sizes:
16:9: sets the picture to 16:9 wide mode
Panorama: use this mode for the wide aspect ratio of a panoramic picture
Zoom 1: magnifies the size of the picture and allows you to move the enlarged picture using the arrows on the remote
Zoom 2: magnifies the size of the picture more than Zoom 1 and allows you to move the enlarged picture using the arrows on the remote
4:3 Normal: sets the picture to 4:3 normal mode
PC Display: The PC input allows you to connect a personal computer with a D-Sub 15-pin output, allowing you to use the TV as a high-resolution computer monitor. In PC mode, you can adjust the following picture quality settings: Coarse and Fine, both of which allow you to remove picture noise. In addition, you can choose one of the following screen sizes:
Wide TV: scales the picture to the size of the TV screen regardless of the aspect ratio of the input source
Wide PC: scales the picture to 92% of the screen regardless of the aspect ratio of the input source
4:3: displays the picture as it is without changing the aspect ratio of input source
2-tuner Picture-in-Picture: Two tuners eliminate the need for a second video source for picture-in-picture. You can select standard PIP operation (with a PIP frame size of Large or Small), or one of two split-screen modes. During standard PIP operation, the PIP frame can be moved to any corner on the screen. In both modes, you can alternate sound between the main program and the secondary program.
Digital Signal Strength Meter: The digital signal strength meter can be used to help you find the antenna position that delivers the highest HDTV digital signal strength.
Analog Channel Fine Tuning: The fine tuning feature allows you to manually adjust analog channels for optimal reception. A separate fine tuning setting may be put into the TV's memory for each analog channel.
Low Noise Amplifier (LNA): When the TV's antenna setting is on "Air", instead of "Cable", sometimes reception can be improved by boosting the incoming signal using the LNA function. A separate LNA setting may be put into the TV's memory for each channel.
Auto Volume: Auto volume automatically adjusts the volume of the desired channel by lowering the sound output when the modulation signal is high or by raising the sound output when the modulation signal is low.
Digital Noise Reduction: If the broadcast signal received by your TV is weak, you can activate the Digital Noise Reduction feature to help reduce any static and ghosting that may appear on the screen.
Sound Settings: You can choose from the following sound settings:
Standard: resets the standard factory settings
Music: for watching music videos and concerts
Movie: for watching movies
Speech: for watching a show that is mostly dialogue
Custom: allows you to adjust the 5-band EQ, which includes the following frequencies: 100 Hz, 300 Hz, 1 kHz, 3 kHz, and 10 kHz
SRS TruSurround XT: TruSurround is a patented SRS technology that solves the problem of playing 5.1 multichannel content over two speakers. TruSurround delivers a compelling, virtual surround sound experience through the two speaker internal playback system. It is fully compatible with all multi-channel formats.
Sleep Timer: The sleep timer switches the television off after a specified amount of time. The sleep timer can be set to 30, 60, 90, 120, 150, or 180 minutes.
On/Off Timer: The On/Off timer allows you to program the television to turn itself on and off by selecting a specific on time and a specific off time. You can also choose the "On Timer Channel" and "On Timer Volume."
Anynet: The HL-R4667W features Anynet, an A/V network system to automatically control compatible Samsung audio/video devices through the Anynet menu via the TV's remote control.
Multibrand Remote: The supplied remote is pre-programmed to operate this unit and a number of functions on other brands of components, including VCRs, cable boxes, and DVD players. Several controls are located under a sliding lid that covers the bottom quarter of the remote.
HDMI/DVI Input: This input consists of left and right audio jacks and an HDMI terminal. The HDMI jack can accommodate a copy-protected digital connection (HDCP) to other devices that have compatible interfaces. The HDMI jack is compliant with the EIA/CEA-861/861B standard and is not intended for use with personal computers. If you want to connect a DVI-compatible device, you will need an HDMI-to-DVI adapter cable. Since DVI does not carry audio signals, a stereo audio input is provided for the HDMI input. In addition to the HDMI-to-DVI adapter cable, you will also need stereo audio cables.
Note: The HDMI jack will accept 1080i, 720p, 480p, and 480i signals.
PC: This input consists of left and right audio jacks and an analog RGB (D-Sub 15-pin) jack. This jack allows you to connect a personal computer with a D-Sub 15-pin output. When using the RGB (D-Sub 15-pin) jack, you must use the PC Audio input for your audio connection.
D-NET (IEEE 1394): The TV has two IEEE 1394 ports to be used with digital VCRs and camcorders.
Note: These terminals are not intended for use with personal computers.
Component Video Inputs: The 2 sets of component video inputs will accept 1080i, 720p, 480p and 480i signals.
Anynet: A 3.5mm (1/8") minijack is provided for connecting the TV with a Samsung Anynet-compatible component, allowing the connected device to be controlled by the TV remote.
G-LINK: When using the recording features of the TV Guide On Screen system, this minijack output allows you to use the supplied IR blasters to control your VCR.
"Service" Jack: The rear panel of the TV has a Service jack for repair and software upgrades only.
