The HL-T5676S is part of Samsung's UltraSlim series of DLP HDTVs for 2007. UltraSlim models combine a new, more compact light engine on the inside with a thinner bezel and "hidden" speakers on the outside. The 56" HL-T5676S has a depth of under 11". Many people who were considering a 50" TV may be able to upsize to a 56". That's about 25% more screen area.
You don't have to be an engineer to understand why TV pictures with 1080p resolution offer so much more detail, depth and clarity compared to 720p models. A 720p display has about one million pixels while 1080p delivers over two million, for images that look more like real life. 1080p is also a pixel-perfect match for 1080i HDTV programs and high-definition HD DVD and Blu-ray Disc players.
Another feature contributing to the HL-T5676S's compelling picture is a "dynamic iris" for dramatically improved black level, shadow detail, and overall contrast. The motorized lens iris is controlled by a circuit that continuously samples the brightness level of the video signal. The iris opens and closes instantly, controlling the light output with split-second precision to optimize contrast scene by scene. BrilliantColor II video processing ensures colors that are both more accurate and more intense than ever before.
The HL-T5676S has plenty of inputs to handle your current and future audio/video gear. There are two HD-compatible component video inputs, and two HDMI inputs and for future-readiness, all of them accept signals up to 1080p. The standard PC input lets this set double as a gigantic hi-res computer monitor.
