Samsung's LED-based light engine is a brilliant alternative to the color-wheel system in conventional DLP TVs. While that system creates crisp, clean high-definition images, a few viewers occasionally notice distracting flashes of color called "rainbows," caused by the spinning color wheel.
The HL-T5687S doesn't use a color wheel because Samsung found a better solution: LEDs (Light Emitting Diodes). A single super-bright PhlatLight™ LED chipset produces the red, green and blue primary colors, creating vivid, high-contrast images with an ultra-wide color range. The LEDs flash on and off at much higher speeds than a color wheel, reducing or eliminating the chance that viewers will experience rainbow effects. Other LED benefits include cooler, quieter operation and much quicker start-up.
Like other top-performing projection TVs, the 56" HL-T5687S has 1080p resolution. 1080p is a pixel-perfect match for 1080i HDTV programs, which make up the bulk of over-the-air, cable, and satellite HD broadcasts. This TV also lets you take full advantage of newer high-definition HD DVD and Blu-ray Disc™ players, which output video signals in the 1080i and 1080p formats.
The HL-T5687S has plenty of inputs to handle your current and future audio/video gear. There are two HD-compatible component video inputs, and three HDMI inputs — and for future-readiness, all accept signals up to 1080p.
