Samsung's LED-based light engine is a brilliant alternative to the color-wheel system in conventional DLP TVs. While that system creates crisp, clean high-definition images, a few viewers occasionally notice distracting flashes of color called "rainbows." These rainbows are caused by the spinning color wheel.
The HL-T6187S doesn't use a color wheel because Samsung found a smarter solution: LEDs (Light Emitting Diodes). A single super-bright PhlatLight LED chipset produces the red, green and blue primary colors, creating vivid, high-contrast images with an ultra-wide color range. The LEDs flash on and off at much higher speeds than a color wheel, reducing or eliminating the chance that viewers will experience rainbow effects. Other LED benefits include cooler, quieter operation and much quicker start-up.
The 61" HL-T6187S has 1080p resolution, which is pretty much a necessity to ensure a crystal-clear picture on a screen this large. 1080p is also a pixel-perfect match for 1080i HDTV programs, which make up the bulk of over-the-air, cable, and satellite HD broadcasts. This TV also lets you take full advantage of newer high-definition HD DVD and Blu-ray Disc players, which output video signals in the 1080i and 1080p formats.
The HL-T6187S has plenty of inputs to handle your current and future audio/video gear. There are two HD-compatible component video inputs, and three HDMI inputs and for future-readiness, all accept signals up to 1080p. The standard PC input (also 1080p-compatible) lets you see life-sized web pages, spreadsheets and games with razor-sharp clarity.

Samsung HL-T6187S Reviews

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)
I went from a 57" Mitsubishi DLP to this TV. I went with this one because it was 4" larger and because it was an LED DLP, so there was no costly bulb replacement looming. I couldn't be happier with my purchase after 1 week of use. Great TV, easy to use, and convenient that the connections are kind of on the side/rear of the TV. They're much easier to get to than my other TV was. This looks amazing when paired with our PS3, watching Blu-Ray movies. Buy one! Buy it now!!
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)
We've had the tv just under a month and it's great! My husband put in a surround sound isystem n our new "media" room and it feels like we're at the movie theatre. The pix was so so at first because we didn't have the HD cable box but once we got that installed, it made such a difference. We're really glad we purchased this tv- in my opinion, it is comparable to the lcds and plasmas out there.
Delivery was great also. I knew the tv was on backorder when I placed the order and expected delivery around Dec 18. I then received an email saying we would not get it until the 1st of the year. Although my husband was bummed, it was ok since we got such a great deal on it. We were pleasantly surprised when the tv was delivered a few days before Christmas. The white glove delivery was super fast- they were in and out in 15 minutes.
A Quality Purchase
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)
Samsung definitely has their act together when it comes to DLP and LCD tvs. I had friends and family who owned one of each beforehand, so I got to see real world reliabilty before my purchase.
The LED engine is a great improvement over the old color wheel technology which can sometimes produce a "rainbow" effect on screen. Not to mention you don't have to be concerned with the bulb burning out after 5000 hours.
I did find several other online retailers offering much lower prices than Crutchfield's. However, once you factor in shipping and a warranty (and you are getting a warranty aren't you? Peace of mind is always a worthy purchase) combined with a friendly and knowledgeable staff, it balances out fairly well in the end.
Here's another cool HL-T6187S feature. I have an analog cable feed, but once the tv's digital tuner completed its channel scan - I began picking up a slew of other stations including hd channels.
The Samsung picture and product quality is amazing. A great investment.
Love the picture and setup was pretty easy just wish i bought the HL-T6189S with the HDMI v1.3 price was a little steep but might be worth it in the long run too early to tell know. Very slim as it describes, havent had time to mess with any settings wich i hear from the factory they arent the best but cant come plain the HD from my HR20-700 Directv rec is mesmorizing. I havent compared any other tvs but im very happy with this one

DLP Projection System: DLP (Digital Light Processing) technology by Texas Instruments is the only display solution that enables projection systems to create a purely digital connection between a digital video or graphic source and the screen in front of you. While all other technologies are analog and compromise some image quality in translation, DLP projection unleashes the full potential of high-quality video content.
DLP Chip by Texas Instruments: Samsung employs a DLP chip that is comprised of millions of microscopic mirrors capable of switching on and off at 15,000 or more times a second to deliver a razor-sharp picture for fast-moving images.
Cinema Smooth 1080p LED Light Engine: Samsung's Cinema Smooth 1080p light engine produces razor-sharp pictures in 1080p with a new LED that replaces the arc lamp and color wheel typically found in DLP televisions. The LED will last the life of the TV, eliminating the need to replace the lamp every few years, plus is more energy efficient. The TV has a contrast ratio of up to 10,000:1, with outstanding colors and deep black levels.
Native Resolution: The television has a display resolution of 1920 x 1080. The HDMI and component video inputs will accept 1080p, 1080i, 720p, 480p, and 480i signals and will display them as 1920 x 1080. All other input signals will also be displayed as 1920 x 1080.
HDTV (ATSC) Tuner: The TV has a built-in over-the-air HDTV (ATSC) tuner, so you don't have to purchase a separate digital set-top box to receive and decode over-the-air HDTV/SDTV signals. The TV also has a 181-channel NTSC analog tuner.
WISELINK: A rear-panel USB port allows you to connect a USB mass storage device, such as a USB Thumb drive, to view JPEG files and play MP3 audio files. You have access to the following functions:
Photo (JPEG) List: This menu shows JPEG files and folders saved on the USB device and allows you to do the following:
View: You can view individual photos by selecting them from the thumbnail display.
Rotate: This feature allows you to rotate the selected image by 90°, 180°, or 270°.
Zoom: You can enlarge a picture 2x or 4x. Once the image is enlarged, you can move it around onscreen.
Slide Show: You can play files on the USB device in a slide show. You can adjust the slide show speed to Slow, Normal, or Fast. You can also choose an MP3 file on the USB device to play as background music during the slide show. The repeat function allows you to play the slide show again and again.
MP3 List: This menu shows MP3 files saved on the USB device and allows you to play them back.
Cinema Smooth Film Mode: Samsung's 3:2 pulldown correction circuitry senses motion found in unconverted 480i DVD video based on 24 fps film productions. This is especially important when converting to a progressive video image, the result is an elimination of visible motion artifacts. Note: This feature is only available when using analog signals from component, S-Video, or composite connections.
Digital Natural Image Engine (DNIe): Samsung's DNIe makes input signals sharper, clearer, and more lifelike. It's advanced image processors and six-times density enhancer help to create true-to-life colors and high contrast, while virtually eliminating digital artifacts.
My Color Control Mode: The My Color Control Mode lets you select predefined settings that affect the skin, sky, and grass tones in a picture without affecting other colors on the screen. You can choose one of the following predefined settings: Standard, Red, Blue, Green, Pink, Yellow or Custom. The Custom setting allows you to individually set and store color saturation values between 0 and 50 for Red, Blue, Green, Pink, and Yellow. If desired, you can instantly reset the colors to the factory default.
Picture Modes: You can choose one of the following picture modes:
- Standard: resets the standard factory settings
