3D TV Learn more

The Samsung HW-C900 is a perfect addition to your home theater system. With HDMI switching and video upconversion, it's easy to connect all your gear for outstanding sound and picture quality. This receiver brings home the spectacular sights and sounds of Blu-ray — it decodes the very latest surround sound formats, and can even handle 3D video if you have a 3D-compatible Blu-ray player and HDTV. Seven channels of power plus dual subwoofer outputs create an immersive sonic experience (dual subs are especially effective in larger rooms). . Or use the rear surround channels to listen to music in one room while others watch a movie in the home theater. The included iPod® dock gives you control of your music library with the click of the receiver's remote. A fold-down front panel reveals a variety of inputs for convenient connection of your video camera or music player.

    Top of The Line

Written by: Airman1 from Hollywood California on November 7, 2014

This unit is top of the line. I can control everything from one remote (volume, channels, set up, alternate incomming and outgoing HDMI). I have had this unit for a year now and it is so reliable. I used to be a big ONOKYO fan but now they are all mass produced and sound like a tin can. This unit fills my club with crisp and full sound at all levels. I have the system hooked up to my external cinema in the VIP room and I have no problems with my switching units. I barely have to turn this baby up for either the club level or vip room. The dual subwoofer .2 feature is great also. 840watts are true and more than any one needs. I'm looking to find one for my house now that they are discontinued

Pros: Lots of Power Full range of sounds and features Easy to hook up Reliable

Cons: I don't have two of them

    Absolutely Horrible!

Written by: Mike from Philadelphia on August 16, 2011

The audio set up is not anywhere as intuitive as most receivers go but the big problem is signal loss. It randomly will drop A/V from an HDMI input even when the content has not changed (SD to HD, etc..) All of my cables are 1.4 certified and work absolutely fine when directly connected to my TV. It appears that it is an HDCP issue but I can't narrow it down. Samsung provides no support for it other than the manual. It is nice looking but I'd rather spend an extra $100 on an Onkyo or Pioneer. I know it's an entry level but my Phillips POS is still kicking after 10 years and this one has serious flaws.

    Very Disappointing

Don't buy this product if you want to perform basic functionality (volume,on/off) through your cable of FIOS remote control. This receiver does not support it. I found out after the fact and am now sorry after dealing with both Verizon and Samsung helpdesks...What a waste of time!!

Pretty Good. Love Single Remote for All

Written by: Bioarches from Wash DC on July 7, 2011

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Bought this system because I wanted all Samsung equipment (TV, BlueRay, Tuner) with the ability to use one remote and love that aspect. Bought high end Definitive speakers for a 5.1 system along with a top of the line Polk Pro 12" subwoofer. All sounds great. Set up for the tuner is maddening and instructions poor (not to mention the manual was so faintly printed I went to the web to download and reprint). Like being able to have components hooked in to the TV and work well with the tuner. All in all very happy if not blown away.

    Audio Features

    7.2 Channel AV Receiver: The Samsung HW-C900 is a 7.2 channel AV receiver with a built-in 120-watts x 7-channel (at 6-ohm, 20-20kHz, THD = 0.9%) digital amplifier and 2 subwoofer preamp outputs.

Crystal Amp Pro: Samsung's Crystal Amplifier Pro filters sound distortion and noise to provide sound quality like that of a professional hi-fi audio system.

    • Dolby Pro Logic IIx: Dolby Pro Logic IIx provides discrete 7.1 channels out of 2 channel or multi-channel sources. It also provides Music, Movie, Game, and Matrix modes.
    • Dolby Pro Logic IIz: Dolby Pro Logic IIz adds front height channels to surround sound, creating a 7.1 playback system for video games, home music, and movies; bringing enhanced spatial effects and enveloping sound.
    • Dolby Digital: Dolby Digital is a 5.1 multi-channel digital surround format which consists of front (left/right), center, surround (left/right) and sub-woofer channels.
    • Dolby Digital EX: Adds a surround back channel for more spacious sound compared to regular 5.1 channel Dolby Digital.
    • Dolby Digital Plus: Dolby Digital Plus is the next-generation audio technology for all high-definition programming and media.
    • Dolby Digital True-HD: Dolby True-HD is Dolby's next-generation of lossless technology developed for high-definition disc-based media.
    • DTS: DTS provides a discrete 5.1 CH digital audio signal for both music and movie contents and uses less compression than Dolby Digital for richer sound.
    • DTS-ES (Extended Surround): The DTS-ES system is a new multi-digital signal format which supports full compatibility with the conventional DTS digital surround sound format, and improves the surround signal for a 360-degree surround effect. DTS-ES add an addition rear center surround channel for 6.1 channel sound.
    • DTS-HD (Master Audio/High Resolution): DTS-HD Audio provides the high quality multi-channel sound possible. It delivers sound quality that matches the clear and vivid images of high-definition video.
    • DTS 96/24: DTS 96/24 encodes standard 16-bit/44.1 kHz sound to 24-bit/96 kHz and applies it to a 5.1ch soundtrack.
    • DTS NEO:6: Provides a full-range of 6 channels b converting a digital PCM or analog stereo signal using DTS digital matrix decoding. You can choose from a Music or Movie mode.

Pro Logic IIx (Music) Settings: You can make the following sound adjustments in the Dolby Pro Logic IIx (Music) mode.

    • Panorama: This mod extends the front stereo image to include the surround speakers for an exciting "wraparound" effect with side wall imaging.
    • Dimension: Incrementally adjusts the DSP soundfield from the front or surround.
    • C-Width: This sets the width of the center sound image.

SFE (Sound Field Effect:) The Samsung HW-C900 utilizes a 32-bit audio digital signal processor to provide soundfield effect modes with more realistic surround sound from normal stereo audio sources. You can choose from Stereo, Hall 1, Hall 1, Jazz Club, Church, Rock, Classic, Live, Game, Movie, Concert, or Stadium.

Two Channel Modes: The AV receiver provides two 2-channel modes.

    • Stereo: Outputs sound of the select source in 2 channel stereo.
    • S.Direct: Outputs 2 channel PCM audio signal without any signal processing, providing higher audio quality. This is useful for obtaining the best sound from a connected CD or SACD player.

MP3 Enhancer: The MP3 Enhancer provides a better listening experience from low-quality MP3 compressed audio.

Auto Sound Calibration (ASC): Auto Sound Calibration makes sure you're hearing optimal sound by automatically configuring the speakers and subwoofer. Simply plug the included ASC microphone into the receiver's front-panel mic input,  place microphone next to your favorite viewing spot, and press the ASC button on the remote control. The ASC function will automatically recognize the distance between speakers, levels between channels, and frequency characteristics to create a 7.1-channel soundfield optimized for your environment.

Manual Speaker Setup: In addition to the receiver's Auto Sound Calibration function, you can also choose to setup your speaker system manually.

    • Speaker Size: Front (Large/Small), Center/Surround/Surround-Back/Front-Height (Large/Small/None), Subwoofer (Yes/No)
    • Crossover: You can adjust the high-pass crossover frequency for the speakers that are set to "Small". You can choose from 60, 80, 100, 120, 150, 180, or 200 Hz.
    • Speaker Distance: You can adjust the distance from speaker and the subwoofer to your listening position. You can select 1-30' (in 1' increments).
    • Speaker Level: You can adjust the level of each speaker channel from -10 to +10 dB (in 1dB increments).

Tone Control: The AV receiver allows you to adjust the bass and treble independently from -6 to +6dB (in 1dB increments).

Smart Volume: Smart Volume regulates and stabilizes the volume level against a drastic volume change when changing channels or during a scene transition.

DRC: You can use the DRC (Dynamic Range Compression) function to enjoy Dolby Digital sound when watching movies at low volume during the night. DRC compresses the audio to make the loudest sounds quieter and the quietest sounds louder.

Dual Zone/Dual Source: In addition to your main listening room, you can also enjoy audio/video playback in another room of your home (Zone 2). You can simultaneously play back the same source in both the Main Zone and Zone 2, or you can play back different sources in the Main Zone and Zone 2. To enjoy Zone 2 Video, you will need to connect the AV receiver's Zone 2 composite video output to a secondary television. There are two ways you can connect Zone 2 speakers.

    • Preamp Zone 2: You can connect the AV receiver's Zone 2 audio outputs (stereo RCA) to a secondary amplifier & connected speakers for Zone 2 operation. This setup allows 7.1-channel playback in your main listening room and 2-channel stereo playback in Zone 2, with a different source in each room.
    • Powered Zone 2: You can use the AV receiver's Surround Back/Front Height speaker outputs to power a pair of loudspeakers in another room of your home. This setup allows 5.1-channel playback in your main room and 2-channel stereo playback in Zone 2, with a  different source in each room.

Note: It is not possible to play the digital audio signal input from the HDMI, Coaxial, or Optical connections in Zone 2. Only Analog input connections are available for Zone 2 playback.

ARC (Audio Return Channel): This feature allows audio to be sent from your compatible HDTV to your receiver through the same HDMI cable already being used to send audio and video to your HDTV. This eliminates the need for extra cables connected to your television.

Speaker Outputs: The Samsung AV receiver features color-code binding posts for all speaker output connections (Front, Surround, Surround Back/Front Height/Zone2, and Center). The receiver will accommodate speakers with a 6-8 ohm impedance.

Multi-Channel Inputs: The Samsung HW-C900 is equipped with a 7.1 channel input (Front, Center, Surround, Surround Back, and Subwoofer) for use with an external multi-channel decoder source, such as SA-CD or DVD Audio.

Digital Inputs: The Samsung AV receiver is equipped with 4 rear-panel digital audio inputs. The receiver features 3 optical digital inputs and 1 coaxial digital input.

FM Tuner: The Samsung HW-C900 features a built-in FM tuner with manual, seek, and preset tuning. You can store up to 30 FM preset stations.

Note: This receiver does not feature an AM tuner.

Headphone Output: When headphones are plugged into the full-size 1/4" jack on the front panel, all the speakers are automatically muted.

    • HDMI (1.4): The receiver is equipped with 4 HDMI (1.4) inputs for connecting HDMI-equipped audio/video components. All 4 HDMI inputs are capable of carrying uncompressed digital audio and video up to 1080p. There is also an HDMI (1.4) monitor output that feeds audio/video signals to an HDTV.

Note: If the input is a Component (1080i) video signal, the output will be in 1080i, including HDMI (1080p is not available).

3D-Ready: The HW-C900 can pass through 3D video from 3D-ready Blu-ray players to 3D-ready TVs, via HDMI (1.4). You will also need compatible 3D-ready glasses and 3D-video content.

AV Sync: Video may look slower than the audio if it is connected to a digital TV. If this occurs, you can adjust the audio delay time to match the video. You can adjust the AV Sync from 0 to 240ms (in 10ms increments).
