Another work day done. You kick off your shoes, grab a favorite beverage from the fridge and settle into your couch, because your favorite TV show has just launched a new season online. You fire up Netflix® and turn up your new TV. As the music ramps up, the action scenes spill forth and the announcer intones, "Previously on..."
Except something's missing. The sound is only slightly better than that of your tablet's speakers. Your new TV looks awesome, but the manufacturer paid a harsh penalty for that ultra-thin look. Thin speakers generally lead to thin sound.
The Samsung HW-450 sound bar features clean lines and a high-gloss finish
Fortunately, the fix is easy. You can get the thrill of powerful, accurate bass and crystal-clear dialogue from the Samsung HW-F450, a powered sound bar/wireless subwoofer system that looks as good as it sounds. With the enhanced connection flexibility of both an HDMI input and output, it's well-equipped to route high-quality video and audio where you need it. The 'F450 supports a recent implementation of the HDMI standard for features like Audio Return Channel, which enables two-way audio transmission over one cable, and Samsung's Anynet+™, which enables one-touch (and one-remote) control over all of your HDMI-connected Samsung components.
For increased convenience, your sound bar/subwoofer combo can pair wirelessly via Bluetooth® with a compatible Samsung HDTV using the SoundShare™ feature. The only wires leading to those components will be for AC power. And the Bluetooth connection allows streaming from compatible smartphones, tablets and laptops. How's that for a simple installation?
Of course, the HW-F450 handles other connections as well. A built-in USB port hosts thumb drives and external disk drives with music files. An optical digital input can handle Blu-ray players, game consoles, or your Apple TV®. And there's a stereo analog 3.5mm input for your media player.
Add big sound to your TV without a roomful of speakers. Sound bars require minimal space and wiring, and their sleek designs complement today's flat-panel TVs. Most sound bars have their own built-in amplification, so you won't need to use a home theater receiver. Some models use advanced surround processing and carefully aimed speaker drivers to simulate the effects of a full home theater audio system.
Very nice sound. An way upgrade for any room in the house or garage :-). That's where mine is set up. This is the second one I have set up.
Pros: Easy setup. Wireless sub Bluetooth
Cons: Small display on front is hard to read No grill covers on speakers.
WORKS AS ADVERTISED--- SOUNDS WONDERFUL IN ALL CATEGORIES.
Pros: EASY SET UP
Cons: NONE SO FAR
A great improvement over the TV sound, with a wide variety of easy to change sound effect settings for different programing, such as News, Music, Movies, Sports, Games & Drama. Also a wide range of sub woofer settings and smart volume control for automatic reduction of sudden increases, such as commercials. Very easy set-up for novice like me.
Pros: Good sound & easy set-up.
I am still adjusting for movies, sporting events talk shows, etc. there is a difference in clarity, etc. when set to match my hearing.
Pros: Small in size, big sound , I like the surround effect....not equal to speakers around the room, but quite good.
The bar was easy to hook up and it sounds great.
This sound system was incredibly easy to set up - took longer to unpack than to set up. I followed the basic instructions and had no problems. The speaker bar is a nice low profile that does not interfere with the controls for the television. This particular system is located in a medium size room, and the sound quality is INCREDIBLE! I highly recommend this product.
Pros: Easy set-up, low profile bar, exceptional sound deliver.
great sound bar. great sound. love everything about it. easy to setup.
Pros: sounds bass easy to setup
Without ever purchasing or owning another speakerbar brand, I have to say that i'm quite disappointed in the sound quality of this particular product. I connected this product to a Samsung 61" DLP TV. To me it seems to sound quite muffled or not enough treble response. The tv speakers actually reproduce better sound. However, you can crank it up and it gives out plenty of sound. Puchased this product for my folks who say they have to turn their television up to 50 something just to be able to hear it. So I felt this would help. They are satisfied with the additional speakerbar and wireless sub.
Pros: Definitely can crank out the sound. And you can download apps to your tablet or phone to steam music via Bluetooth to the speakerbar.
Cons: Sound reproduction disappointed me. Sound was quite muffled. Not very clear in voice dialogue and high sounds.
Easy to set up and works very well with Samung 55 in. TV.
Pros: Sounds great
Great sound, great price. Easy to setup. Perfect for my living room/tv area where we sit about 9' away. Wireless subwoofer was great to hide it next to the couch. Bluetooth to pair with my smartphone is great for streaming music off your devices. I used the optical cable from the tv, no problems at all. Had it all configured in less than 20 minutes. Great product for the price.
Pros: Easy setup. Great sound. Wireless SW.
Cons: None so far
Works as advertised. Sound is rich. I have it hooked up to a Samsung Smart TV
Pros: Rich sound, easy to mount and setup. I am using digital optical.
Cons: Can't control volume with TV remote, even though I have TV internal speakers off. I must use the sound bar remote. Also, sound bar does not turn on when TV is turned on, must use remote which is a pain.
We have never had a sound bar with our TV and with the sound bar it makes you feel like you are in a theater!
Good mid priced soundbar
Pros: small and attractive
Cons: cannot get the main soundbar to work via Bluetooth with my new Samsung Bluetooth LCD tv
A great substitute for the televisions poor speakers.
Pros: Clear voice dialogue. More power and the wireless bass woofer helps a lot.
Cons: Not up to the sound of a decent home surround system but a great value for the money.
What a difference this makes. I'm using this with a Samsung 6300 Smart TV and as soon as I turned it on the difference was incredible. Some reviews complain about the lack of bass. I haven't noticed any lack of. The ability to have to subwoofer not near the sound bar is great as it gives you flexibility for location.
Pros: The sound. The message bar on the unit is unobtrusive. I thought the price was reasonable. While there are more expensive units, I didn't want to spend more than the cost of my tv.
Cons: The directions weren't that great. I had to call Samsung for support but it was a quick call.
The acoustics in the room that houses this unit make the subwoofer too powerful. Most of the time I have it set at -6. Otherwise it sounds too boomy. The remote has many options but my guess is that in order to receive quality sound, almost everyone has it set to drama mode with little or no enhancements. Still, it's a pretty good unit. About the only things I really don't like are the lack of a grill cloth. The open speakers are hardly impressive due to their small size and they can collect a lot of dust in a hurry. And when using the volume control it sends a signal to the tv screen which is very big and annoying.
Pros: Decent sound (much clearer than TV), small footprint, wireless sub, power and full range of controls.
Cons: Lack of grill or grill cloth, boomy bass and/or too much bass emphasis, some useless options on remote. Obnoxious volume "bar" on screen.
Pros: Great sound
i probably never would've bought one of these setups on it's own, but i'm glad i have it now that i do. it came free with my f8500 tv. it's actually simpler to hookup than i thought it would be. just plug it in and connect phone via bluetooth, and done. i've used little portable, battery operated speakers before for taking out by pool or in garage or something. but they are WAY too quiet. this is perfect. just plug it in and set on a chair and i can hear it anywhere on deck and easily control with phone where i'm at. i'm not too anal about sound quality for something like this, so that wouldn't be a negative for me, but i think it sounds pretty good. nothing compared to surround i have on main tv, but for how portable it is, i think it's great.
Pros: - very portable sound option without having to worry about running wires and having a reciever and all that. connects quickly with phone, with only a power cord needing to be plugged in. - it was free
Cons: some may think sound quality is lacking, dunno. it's no 5.1 system, but for my application, or a bedroom, i can't imagine needing anything more.
Easy to hook up, sounds great
Pros: Plug and play- Streaming of music
Cons: Had to purchase Dig/Audio cable
Overall really good sounding system for the size.
Pros: Small size and powerful sound.
Cons: If mounting on wall you cant hide the power cord since it is supposed to mount 2" below TV. Sometimes bar "cuts out" - seems to happen w/ DVR recorded movies - does not happen often. Also, the subwoofer allows more than just bass through the speaker. Solved that by placing in front of room - less noticeable.
Great speaker! Easy to install (we did a cable that we didn't have but not tragic) The sound is so much richer than the little TV speaker. It looks pretty cool too under the TV set. Well done!
Needs more power I wish I would have spent a little more for more power very weak sound
Pros: Easy to set up
Cons: Not very powerful sound especially very weak bass over all ok for the cost
Works as advertised and reviewed by others.
Pros: Was included in the package deal. The sound is adequate for me. Sounds great with DVD movies.
Cons: A little hollow sounding at times, but overall good
easy setup, great sound
Good product for small spaces.
Pros: Bluetooth, HDMI, optic cable
Cons: Lack of depth in sound
Nice unit. Thinking I would improve usually poor tv sound, it did.
Pros: Easy set up.
Cons: If u want bass, not here. No options improve base sound on this set.
This sound system is a vast improvement over the speakers in the TV. Used in concert with the set speakers, the sound is excellent.
Pros: Very good value for the sound quality.
As a solid fan of Samsung products, I purchased this to upgrade the sound from the current Samsung TV speakers. Extremely easy setup, and my family couldn't be happier with the sound improvement. The wireless sub is surprisingly powerful, and the dialogue is very clear for a sound bar in this price category. Well worth the money if you're looking for a basic upgrade without all the money and hassle of a custom system.
Pros: Easy setup, good LFE
Cons: Only 1 HDMI input
Allow me to preface this review by stating that I am not a "true audiophile." However, I still have a pretty decent ear for quality sound and was simply looking for a decent upgrade to my slim flat screen's sound quality. I purchased a fantastic Samsung UN50F6400 50" 1080p 3D LED-LCD HDTV from Crutchfield earlier this year, but its stock speakers are very weak, as is the problem with all flat screen television especially as they become thinner. The Samsung HW-F450 is perfect for the Cyber Monday price; and, in retrospect, I would have paid the current price.
There is nothing spectacular about this system in the overall audio market-place. But, if you are a very discerning audiophile, why would you be searching for a SoundBar system anyhow? This delivers solid, quality sound at a very reasonable price to upgrade from you flat screen's stock speakers. The wireless subwoofer works quite well wirelessly. The SoundBar itself is capable of wireless connection with compatible Samsung televisions such as my UN50F6400, but the quality is very poor (very hollow with a lot of static). But, again, for the price, I was not expecting superior wireless sound quality. But, when connected via HDMI (ARC), the sound is very good, which in total makes for only three wires (power to SoundBar, power to subwoofer, and HDMI cable). Surprisingly, the sound quality when connected by blue tooth with my iPad and iPhone was rather good, and was capable of communicating up to 20-25 ft.
Pros: Great for entry-level standards; compact; slim; clearer lows; easy set-up; solid blue tooth connectivity with iPad/iPhone/iPod; fantastic Crutchfield service (as always)
Cons: Poor wireless connectivity of TV with SoundBar via Samsung SoundShare
Exactly what I wanted. The installation was very simple and the speakers are a giant improvement over the TV speakers.
Pros: Simple to install. Great product for the price.
Cons: Small speakers limit the quality of the sound but still worth the price.
The Sound is not much better than my Samsung TV. The optical cable from my Blueray does not seem to work.
Pros: Good sound but not much better than the TV. Good for the price.
I received this product free what I received my samsung tv I have to say I am very pleased with it gives great sound easy to hook up would definitely recommend this to others thanks again Crutchfield!
Pros: Easy Install and sounds great!
Grabbed the Samsung model HW-F450 wireless soundbar, as part of a purchasing incentive through Crutchfield when I bought my Samsung Smart TV. Flat panel TVs tend to not always have great sound, so the soundbar idea was an inexpensive alternative to a full home theater speaker setup. The setup was pretty simple & the wireless capability offers lots of options, whether wall mounted or flat on a stand. The wireless subwoofer that came with the soundbar was easy to get functioning & does a decent job. The soundbar definitely improves the overall use & viewing experience with the TV. I am likely to order another one to use with my other flat panel, for watching sports & just regular TV shows. I personally would recommend the Samsung HW-F450 model for the sound quality and wireless install. Thanks Crutchfield for offering this incentive.
Pros: Easy setup, no wires to fuss with, looks slim & cool. You can use the TV menu to tweak how it works with the TV sound versus soundbar sound, to maximize the effect.
Cons: None after just 30 days.
I received the sound bar as part of a promotion when I purchased a Samsung 55" TV. This is my first sound bar as I have a Bose Acoustimas 15 system that has been my primary home theatre sound for years. I was a little skeptical, but after hooking it up, the convience of a single speaker system really is nice. The sub could use a little more kick, but for a $250 speaker setup, it is not bad. The wireless pairing worked flawlessly with the TV. This made setup super easy as all you need is hte power cord. It also paired easy with various blue tooth devices in the house. This was a nice added benefit as I can just flip the source over and pump tunes out from my phone.
Pros: Easy setup, reasonably good sound, bluetooth pairing
Cons: The subwoofer could be a little stronger.
Exactly what I was looking for. Good sound balanced the game room but not over powering. Nice compliment to my room
Pros: Easy to set up and use. Great flexibility and solid sound.
The sound quality is definitely an improvement over stock, but there are not exactly a ton of controls to fine-tune bass levels and such. The unit lacks power for larger rooms or higher volumes. As it was received free with the purchase of a television I am pretty happy with it, although would not be so if I had paid the list price.
Pros: Improvement over television speakers.
The Samsung surround unit improves the sound of the built-in speakers of most flat-screen televisions. I have purchased two for clients who have both appreciated this improvement, particularly the lower end. It is not difficult to set up, and with the fiber optic audio input common to many televisions its connections are simple. But with the subwoofer, reading the directions are essential. For the price it's not a bad buy. Having used Dolby surround systems for years in my own home I was not impressed with this unit as a surround sound system. On the other hand, there is a marked difference between built-in speakers on a set and the performance of these speakers.
First experience using a sound bar (and subwoofer); nevertheless, highly satisfying so far as to the audio, is my listening environment (medium-size bedroom). The remote control, however, while functional, leaves something to be desired, especially as all of this hardware is Samsung-made. But even with this criticism, I'm happy and quite satisfied with this product overall. Which is to say, Recommended, at the least.
Pros: Excellent price. Superior audio characteristics and frequency balance. Easy setup; wireless subwoofer makes room positioning unhindered.
Cons: Remote control has a weak beam compared to a Samsung HDTV remote; on/off, volume, et al controls cannot be programmed to the Samsung HDTV remote, requiring switching back and forth between two remote control units.
Decent sound, but requires some tuning of sound attributes to get it right. Soundshare allows for volume control via the TV if it's Samsung as well. Found I got better sound using both TV- and sound bar speaker together, as TV seems to have higher audio range.
Pros: Easy installation with wall-mount flat-screen with standard AC power cord (no wall wart). Decent sound.
Cons: Using it alone with TV audio turned off, it has little high-frequency audio.

Most multi-product remotes will likely work with this unit. The Universal RF-10 should do the job pretty well: http://www.crutchfield.com/p_554RF10/Universal-MasterControl-RF-10.html [ Jeff Feb 17, 2014 ] Staff

HDMI from TiVo to Sound bar. Then another HDMI from sound bar to TV. that's what the instructions say so that's how I did it. [ Laura Jan 30, 2014 ]
No it does not come on when TV is turned on. Has to be turned on separately. [ Dennis Jan 18, 2014 ]
works fine , i don't use optical port [ KRZYSZTOF G Jan 17, 2014 ]
Sorry, not using optic audio cable [ ROBERT T Jan 16, 2014 ]
Yes, it does once you get it set up right. I actually needed help from the Crutchfield team to get it set up. The thing that is not obvious is that there is a time delay for when the sound bar goes on and even longer when it goes off. So, when you first turn the TV on with the TV remote, the sound bar does not come on for a short time. Less than a minute. It does go on eventually. When you turn the TV off, the soundbar stays on for about 20 minutes. But it does always go off. The one thing I find to be a minor annoyance is that sound volume is not controlled by the TV remote. You have to silence the TV sound or you will get an echo. The volume on the TV remote only controls that. You have a separate small remote that controls the sound on the soundbar. That can also change channels, but it does not get to changing the source etc. So, you still need both remotes. Hope that helps. We love our TV and the sound bar is terrific. [ ROY E Jan 16, 2014 ]
Don't know never used the optic cable. [ WALTER Jan 16, 2014 ]
No it has to be manually turn on [ RAJESH Jan 16, 2014 ]
No, The Best Solution is to add a Harmony smart hub Then it will turn on and select the right input [ CHARLES Jan 16, 2014 ]
Not sure about the optic cable I have mine hooked up with a HDMI cable and it does turn on and off with the tv. [ HARRY Jan 16, 2014 ]
Check page 20 of the User Manual - it mentions the AUTO POWER LINK function - note that it states the HDMI CEC feature must be turned OFF. I never tested this as I was using a Samsung TV with an ARC enabled HDMI port for connection to the sound bar. [ FREDERICK Jan 16, 2014 ]
No. If it dose I havent figured it out. But it will turn itself off if no sound is coming through it. [ JEFFREY L Jan 16, 2014 ]
Hi Cindy - First of all I'd give the experts @ Crutchfield a call and tell of your complaint. Because I'd say that the system isn't very bass-oriented, if that's what you want. I think it's nicely balanced sound, for my tastes, but it doesn't rattle the walls; my room is a small bedroom, ~ 15 ft square. That said, for best bass effect, place the subwoofer in a corner, speaker facing out. This emphasizes bass frequencies. Good luck. And return the system if still not satisfied. [ NICK Dec 30, 2013 ]
No issue where with the sub. The system is installed in a bedroom. Sound bar is mounted on the wall above the TV. The sub is placed on the floor on the oppisite wall from the sound bar. [ JAY Dec 29, 2013 ]
No to both questions. The Bluetooth link is only with the sub-woofer and sound bar. [ Frakes Dec 24, 2013 ]
Only used for TV sound. No headphones so have no insight. Sorry! [ CHARLES Dec 18, 2013 ]
No idea. I have only tried delivering music via blue tooth. I have never tried receiving what is ever being put in through another source. Sorry. [ WILLIAM Dec 18, 2013 ]
The sound is great,i was able to stream the sound from the sound bar to the subwoffer was easy. Sound s great [ Gerald Dec 18, 2013 ]
I would think you would need to connect the Bluetooth headphones to the device that is generating the sound signal not the sound bar. [ WILLIAM P Dec 18, 2013 ]
Depends on the sound bar design. I recommend you contact the manufacturer. [ ROBERT E Dec 04, 2013 ]
Not as far as I know - there are no connections for any external speakers. [ FREDERICK Dec 02, 2013 ]
no- you really don't need them, it sounds good the way it is. i think u will be very happy with this sound bar, i am. [ CHRISTINA M Dec 02, 2013 ]
Josh, I haven't tried to do so. The sound bar and the sub are enough for us. Tom [ THOMAS Dec 02, 2013 ]
