Another work day done. You kick off your shoes, grab a favorite beverage from the fridge and settle into your couch, because your favorite TV show has just launched a new season online. You fire up Netflix® and turn up your new TV. As the music ramps up, the action scenes spill forth and the announcer intones, "Previously on..."
Except something's missing. The sound is only slightly better than that of your tablet's speakers. Your new TV looks awesome, but the manufacturer paid a harsh penalty for that ultra-thin look. Thin speakers generally lead to thin sound.
The Samsung HW-F550 sound bar features a powerful 150-watt wireless subwoofer.
Fortunately, the fix is easy. You can get the thrill of powerful, accurate bass and crystal-clear dialogue from the Samsung HW-F550, a powered sound bar bar that looks as good as it sounds, and comes complete with a wireless 150-watt subwoofer. With the enhanced connection flexibility of both an HDMI input and output, it's well-equipped to route high-quality video and audio where you need it. The 'F550 supports a recent implementation of the HDMI standard for features like Audio Return Channel, which enables two-way audio transmission over one cable, and Samsung's Anynet+™, which enables one-touch (and one-remote) control over all of your HDMI-connected Samsung components.
For increased convenience, your sound bar/subwoofer combo can pair wirelessly via Bluetooth® with a compatible Samsung HDTV using the SoundShare™ feature. The only wires leading to those components will be for AC power. And the Bluetooth connection allows streaming from compatible smartphones, tablets and laptops. How's that for a simple installation?
Of course, the HW-F550 handles other connections as well. A built-in USB port hosts thumb drives and external disk drives with music files. An optical digital input can handle Blu-ray players, game consoles, or your Apple TV®. And there's a stereo analog 3.5mm input for your media player.
Add big sound to your TV without a roomful of speakers. Sound bars require minimal space and wiring, and their sleek designs complement today's flat-panel TVs. Most sound bars have their own built-in amplification, so you won't need to use a home theater receiver. Some models use advanced surround processing and carefully aimed speaker drivers to simulate the effects of a full home theater audio system.
This sound bar sounds amazing. I was kind of doubtful because of the low price. Once it was set up I was happy that I purchased it. The sound and bass is amazing!! I recommend this product.
Pros: Easy set up, Stylish, Great sound and fast shipping.
Easy setup and good sound. Replaced a sony sound bar that was stolen. This one cost less and sounds better than the sony. Fuller and less tinny.
Cons: Blue tooth with the iPhone is a little hit or miss with drop out/connectivity.
Great sound. Simple install. Blue tooth audio works super with my Ipad. And Cutchfield buying experience was superb, as always.
Before buying, went to a retail store to listen to various brands. After reading dozens of reviews on several models, I purchased this unit. Some of the set up was delayed because of myself, but was easy overall. The instructions did leave some to be desired. But when it came alive, WOW !!. A little tweaking of the sound, and now shows/movies COME ALIVE. This review may not be typical in ways. Sound is, like beauty, in the ear of the beholder. What may sound great to one person may sound otherwise to someone else. I found what I liked and am not disappointed. I will say to the TV manufacturers, SHAME ON YOU. Proudly touting the latest gizmos and hi tech, but PATHETIC sound. There is a switch on the remote to go to TV speaker only, and, during my first Blu ray (Man of Steel) the difference was obvious. So much of the sound track was lost, subdued & flat on the TV speaker, but revealed, amplified & balanced on the sound bar. In the day of bigger & better for TV's, that OBVIOUSLY doesn't apply to the sound. Soundbars, in general, make TV's sound the way you WISHED the TV would sound. It astonishes me how many people want 5.1 or 7.1 experience from a soundbar. As a former owner of an Onkyo 7.1, not gonna happen, folks, no matter what the ad / salesperson says. Let your ear be the judge. Soundbars will fill the needs of most who want better sound without the expense and engineering of tru surround. Have been a Crutchfield customer for 25 years. They are the BEST
Pros: sleek looking, RELATIVELY easy hook up. Pairs nice with my Samsung 6000 LED smart TV and Sony Blu Ray. Sound eq settings help
Cons: the bass will not amaze you, but gives adequate low range coverage when is called for, unless you want the windows to rattle
This is not surrond sound but very good audio .Please, with the bass be patient it grows on ya, its not intence but it there i didn't want booming bass in my home. Very easy hook up and works well with my nano.
Pros: Price is reasonable, simplicity and sound is pleasing
Excellent product, had trouble hearing dialogue, now very clear. Easy to setup and excellent sound quality.
Cero quejas, el mejor sonido que haya tenido.
No complaints, the best sound that I have had.
Cons:Crutchfield response on January 13, 2014 Translation provided by Crutchfield's Spanish Sales & Support team. Visit our new Spanish-language site at www.crutchfieldenespanol.com:
Samsung HW-F550.Very nice sound bar with no problems setting it up. Sub sounds just right.
Pros: Easy to set up.
Cons: The bar could be a little longer.
I got this at the Black Friday price so I was happy about that. Crutchfield has been awesome with their customer service for sure.
Received the unit promptly, set it up according to instructions and some things I read on the web ... and the sound was pretty terrible. The soundbar did not pair with the subwoofer, so there was little mid and no low frequency sound. I had turned off my local wifi router even before plugging in the soundbar, but it still did not pair. Used the instructions to manually pair the sounbar with the sub at least 10 times - no improvement. Called Crutchfield - still no pairing. They promptly mailed out another unit to replace mine. Somehow, the subwoofer paired by itself over the next couple of days. Sound was MUCH better. I've decided to keep the unit. Works great with Bluetooth, my TV, and I like the little display on the soundbar itself to let you know you've switched outlets. Initially used the HDMI in/out with my Anynet+ Samsung plasma, but found it easier to just use optical - the soundbar turns on automatically with optical input only. With HDMI input and Anynet+ it will turn on automatically only with 2013 and newer Sammys apparently.
Pros: Price, display, bluetooth
Cons: Pairing issue. Remote should have DEDICATED input buttons, rather than cycling through the SOURCE button until the desired input is reached. Annoying.
We have a large living room with cathedral ceilings so we wanted something to fill the room with quality sound, this sound system was nice for the price. It has a great sound and set up was fairly easy...just a little patience and it all worked out. Connects with your other devices easily.
Pros: Quality sound without costing a fortune. Nice set up/ design
There is no doubt that this sound bar is an immense improvement over the stock speakers on my 2012 Samsung 55" television. I no longer have to crank the volume up to understand the dialogue in movies, and the drama equalization setting helps greatly to emphasize voices. My only complaints are that the sound bar doesn't come on with the TV remote, although once it's on the tv remote controls the volume and shut-off just fine. So you still need the sound bar remote to turn on the sound. But this is a minor hassle. A bigger concern of mine of is the lack of "punch" in the bass. It's not that you can't hear the bass, it's that it needs a boost in my opinion. The only time the subwoofer seems to contribute is during movies with rumbling sound effects or extremely low frequency music. I'd like to feel the bass a little more. My two minor complaints aside, I am more than happy with this product.
Pros: Clear sound, sounds great with movies or music. Equalization presets make movie dialogues clearer and music sounds great too. The Bluetooth capability makes it easy to stream music from my phone, and the wireless subwoofer can be placed nearly anywhere in the room.
Cons: Not quite full interoperability with tv remote functions. Would like the ability to crank the bass up a little more.
Just for the ease of setup and no wires is nice. Used with a 51" 8500 (2013), soundshare bluetooth picked it right up
Good Item.Worked well with my Samsung tv.Very easy to hook up with HDMI cable and works with anything hooked up to my tv such as my Blu-ray player etc. Also tried it without cable and used the blue tooth option worked well first try.But I recomend using the HDMI cable if you have a Samsung tv.As far as how the unit sounds it is heads above the tv speakers and it has more than enough power to fill our tv room and make watching a movie much more enjoyable.Like everybody says you can't compare it to a true surround system but it does a nice job for what it is.Some of the modes you can set on the soundbar such as sports and news to me don't sound that good but you can experiment and find what sounds best to you.
Pros: Easy hook up to samsung TV. Much much better than tv speakers. Easy to use remote. Very low profile on soundbar. Blu-tooth hook up to sub woofer works great
Cons: Some of the modes you can set soundbar to are not very good
This soundbar is excellent to connect wirelessly with Smasung TVs. Setup is very easy and sound is great for small to mid-sized rooms.
Pros: Connectivity Features Sound quality
Pros: Value priced, only two cables
This is the product is exactly what I was looking for in the market. I can connect my iPAD Air, Samsung Galaxy S3, and iPOD touch to this device easily without turning on my Samsung Smart TV to listen Pandora. The quality of the sound is excellent. I am so happy with this product because it met my expectations as a customer.
Pros: Bluetooth feature awesome, easy set up and you will love it.
This piece is a solid value. Great sound for basic tv/movie watching. (We have it in an 18 x 18 area within an open floor plan.) Set up is effortless when pairing with Samsung Smart TV. Especially appreciate the minimal design.
Pros: Value priced. Easy set up. Simple minimal design.
Cons: None yet.
I purchased this product along with a Samsung UN60F7500 HDTV and the pair is awesome together. Connection is wireless and very easy to set up. Much better than the internal low wattage speakers in most TVs. Spending a little more on quality sound makes your HDTV a much better buy.
Pros: Crutchfeld service is superb and so is this product. It delivers big quality sound at a small price. Seamlessly integrates with high end Samsung HDTV 7100 and above series wirelessly via Bluetooth.
Cons: Bass can be a bit much if you don't turn it down a bit.
I had a good purchasing experience, and the delivery was on schedule with no hiccups. Given that I was using a voucher, I was expecting some snags (there always seems to be snags when getting sometime without using straight cash).....but everything went like a dream.
The product itself is great -- good clear quality sound. On my first Saturday night after installation, my neighbours knocked on my front door at 11:30pm to tell me that their house was shaking -- I was watching Man of Steel, with the sound set for 15 (out of a scale of 50), and the sub-woofer at +6. The volume did not appear excessive. :-)
Pros: Excellent Service. Quality Product.
Cons: Need to buy a house in the countryside, so the neighbours dont complain. :-)
Samsung / Crutchfield should offer as a package with Samsung LED TV's. Advisor recommended optic cable connection which made setup easy and improved sound.
Pros: sleek design
Cons: wireless subwoofer very subordinate to system.
I purchased the Samsung HW-F550 from Crutchfield when I felt my beloved Samsung UN60ES8000 sound was lacking when watching some movies and television dramas. After some due diligence on the internet, I felt that the SoundShare capabilities of the HW-F550 was the feature that sold me to integrate wirelessly with my LED TV. I really loved the sleek look of the HW-F550 and how it complimented the looks with my TV. The manual on using SoundShare was easily to understand and worked right away. The sound quality is amazing and I particularly like using Pandora on my TV with these new speakers. Movies and TV shows now have the depth and in your face effect that sound is supposed to deliver to the viewer. The only qualm I had with the setup was the Sub-woofer is a bit overpowered for regular everyday use. I just dialed it down a bit so that my kids don't complain that I am rattling their teeth watching my favorite movies.
Pros: Sleek and simple design, integrates well via SoundShare with Samsung televisions, Sub woofer delivers deep booming bass. Sound bar offers different modes for TV, Music, News, etc.
Cons: Sub Woofer is a bit over powered right out the box and had to tone it down to my liking for everyday use and tolerance of the rest of the folks in the house. USB connectivity is a bit hit & miss.
Excellent sound quality, a bit hard to set up to other controls though, I only tried for a few minutes so still hopeful.
Pros: Superior Sound
Cons: Not east to set up additional controols
Great product. Crutchfield was faster than light in getting the product to me.
Pros: Full sound, easy to to hook up
Easy to set up. One of your customer service reps did not realize that the TV I purchased had Soundshare and I went out and bought a cable I didn't.t need.
I've never used a sound bar before. I have a 7.1 system on my main TV. The sound bar is for my secondary TV. It's better than the TV speakers but I would use it for my big main TV.
Pros: Better than TV speakers. Easy to hook up.
Cons: Sound bars can't begin to compare to big surround systems.
I got this sound-bar as a bonus when I purchased the Samsung UN60F7500 TV. It provides more clarity and depth of sound and is a huge improvement over the sound system built into the TV. It was easy to hook up and works great with Samsung's AnyNet link. The wireless sub woofer adds just enough base to make movie watching more enjoyable. Please note that this not surround sound but is a great improvement over the standard TV sound.
Pros: Better than the standard TV sound.
I have not used this sound bar enough to give a thorough review, but preliminarily it seems to be a good unit. Although The construction is solid and the sound is more than acceptable, there does seem to be a drop out in the spectrum in the transition from the sub to the mid/high bar. Again this is only an initial opinion, for I have not yet run the system through a variety of sources. The hook-up was simple enough, but I ran into an issue linking it through Blue Tooth to my recently produced Samsung TV only to find out the TV is not Bluetooth. Moronic on my part for the assumption, but solved with a supplied audio cable. Samsung is slightly unclear on the "Easy Share" hook-up in the TV's manual resulting in me calling Samsung and their help line was useless, with Associates reading off paper refusing to let you get a word in until they had finished reading. I then called Crutchfield and in five minutes was advised my TV was not Blue Tooth and I had to use the cable
I have the sound bar in a 300 Sq. Ft. room and the sound seems to be full enough for all to enjoy, but I would not use this unit as an "all audio" solution unless you are looking for a compact device for multiple audio needs, with it's almost all inclusive connectivity options. I will add that I run Pandora from my phone through Blue Tooth and it works great.
Once again I have purchased a "Scratch and Dent" item from Crutchfield and it there ids nothing wrong with it. This is a great program!!! Enjoy!
Pros: Solid Construction, compact, good sound (so far), and multiple connectivity options.
Cons: Possible "hole" in the transition form the sub to the mid/high frequencies.
This Samsung Soundbar is great! Really creates a nice surround sound effect and it gives you options to choose different sound modes for whatever you are listening to (Music, Cinema, etc..). The bar comes with a wireless subwoofer, which sound amazing together. This system really cranks and has more than enough loudness for any room in the house! I would highly recommend
Pros: Loud, good sound quality, light-weight, Dolby Digital
Excellent speakers for the money; used with Samsung 55" LED television. Slim profile allows it to fit inconspicuously below the flat screen pedestal. With both HDMI and optical inputs, hook-ups to TV and blue-ray is simple and quick. Sound is significant improvement over flat screen rear projecting speakers, although will not satisfy demanding audiophiles. Great order processing and delivery from Crutchfield.
Pros: Slim profile, easy hook-up and sound improvement over flat screen.
Cons: None; meets expectations.
Good sound. Easy set up.
Pros: Low profile, good sound, low price. Works well with Samsung TV
Cons: None that I have seen
When I told people I was getting a 55in Plasma HD3D TV and was going to purchase a sound bar instead of a HT I got all kinds of negative feedback which didn't deter me from my decision. I checked out a lot of sound bars in my price range and read a lot of reviews and decided on the HW-F550. Compared to other sound bars i looked at and listened to, this one blows the others away. It took about 10 minutes to set it up in front of the TV...When turned on all I could say was OMG. It's also very sleek and classy looking in black and the perfect size.. My whole setup (TV, bluray 3D player and stand ) is all black. and just totally compliment each other. I'm glad I don't have a HT clutteringr up my somewhat small living room and can get such amazing sound along with the wonderful wireless subwoofer.. What a bonus!! .The bass is great. Watching Avitar in 3D was just like being in the theater. I am extremely happy with this purchase. So, to all you naysayers, you don't know what you are missing.
Pros: Wireless subwoofer , looks, and really really great sound.
This product is giving me the best sound i haveever had in a sound bar
I miss my receiver already. Wife is happy with the minimalistic look. Sound is a step down from what I had. Much better than TV's sound.
Pros: Wireless Subwoofer
Cons: Step down from what I had. (Receiver, Left,Center,Right speakers) My univeral remove (Harmony) need delay to be tweaked to work. Still use a dedicated button for each "Actiivity" to power on bar because it doesn't work 100% Wall mount allows bar to slide in at an angle. Be aware when you center the mount under the TV, your bar will be off.
I have to admit I'm not a huge A/V equipment guy. I expect things to run out of the box and just... work. Thankfully this sound bar from Samsung fit that bill beautifully. Sounds great. The 3D effects help fill the room. And it takes up VERY little room on our dresser, sitting right in front of the TV.
Great suggestion from the Crutchfield folks and I really appreciated the simplicity of product setup.
Simple install. Heavy duty sound bar well put together no cheap plastic, which gives for better sound. At volume level 20 which maxes out at 50 already sounds a whole lot better than tv speakers. Was skeptical at first as its my first since I have a 7.1 in my man cave. This was just an upgrade to my living room since I don't have space for true surround system. However the case this is a great surprise buy an worth it, sounds clean with pop a must have if you're just looking to upgrade tv speakers an on a budget.
Pros: Simple set up Heavy duty feel an look Sounds great, won't disappoint
Cons: None really, always better if price was lower, was looking to spend no more than $300, but paid a little extra.
I bought the HW-F550 from Crutchfield and it arrived in only 4 days. I was skeptical about the sound quality. I was shocked that the speaker and sub woofer came with everything needed to set it up on the wall (horizontal) or in two pieces on the wall on each side the TV, and with stands if I wanted to just put in on the floor. The setup was SIMPLE. Cable box HDMI plugs into the Sub Woofer. Out of the Sub Woofer is an HDMI to the TV. The sub woofer is wireless to the sound bar. I turned on the TV and the sound was AMAZING! So good in fact, I bought another 550 and install it in their Penthouse condo. It was so easy to install, I never needed to call Crutchfield for assistance.
This is a product I would recommend to anyone who wants good sound from their LCD or Plasma TV.
Pros: Great Sound and easy installation.

I have no clue the one I have works great [ GARY Jan 25, 2014 ]
I don't have specific information on the 55C (and it's not listed on the Samsung website), but after looking at some information online it would appear that the two are very similar. I did not see any differences between the two units. It may simply be that the model number difference is because of it being sold in a warehouse style store rather than an electronics retailer. [ Jeff Dec 16, 2013 ] Staff
Thanks for your question Ben. With only one HDMI input you could disconnect each time you want to use a different source. If your TV has multiple HDMI inputs, and an HDMI output, then you could use it to switch sources, or you could purchase a separate HDMI switching unit. Feel free to reach out to an Advisor by phone or chat to help determine if there might be a better fit for your set-up. [ Jeff Nov 19, 2013 ] Staff
