Would you like to be able to watch football while you surf the Web, or answer e-mail while you catch the evening news? Well, you can do those things and a lot more with Samsung's incredibly versatile LTM1575W LCD TV. It has a built-in TV tuner and enough A/V inputs to let you view virtually any source — DVD, VCR, satellite TV, etc. This widescreen model is also "HDTV-ready" — to watch HDTV, just connect a separate HDTV tuner. The LTM1575W makes an excellent high-resolution PC monitor, too!

For the ultimate in viewing convenience, you can even display PC and TV signals simultaneously: PC Picture-in-Picture creates a regular TV PIP window on your screen that you can resize and move around. Or choose Split-Screen mode which divides the screen evenly between sources.

Although Samsung is one of the world's leading LCD developers, designing a high-performance screen for both TV and computer use was a challenge. A TV has to display fast-moving video images that also require high contrast and brightness, and the viewing range should be fairly wide so several people can watch. A PC monitor must be able to display detailed static (still) images in high resolution (lots of pixels) and millions of colors, but the viewing range can be narrower since you sit directly in front of a monitor. As a result, it's rarely been possible to watch great-looking TV and read fine text on the same screen. Samsung's solution: densely packed, ultra-fast switching pixels that create detailed, fluid video images, virtually eliminating motion trails and blurring.

When it comes to placement, the LTM1575W's thin design and light weight open up a variety of options. The sturdy stand creates a low-profile look on a counter, desktop, or dresser, or detaches if you'd prefer wall-mounting (hardware not included, see our selection of OmniMount brackets). This TV uses a long-life lamp that's rated for 60,000 hours of use — equivalent to viewing 8 hours per day, every day, for over 20 years!

Features

LCD Screen Technology: Liquid Crystal Televisions work by trapping a liquid crystal solution between two sheets of polarized glass. When an electric current is passed through the liquid crystals, each crystal either blocks or allows light to pass through it based on the broadcast information. For clear, crisp color that rivals traditional CRT displays, a thin film transistor, known as a TFT is employed. Even in harsh light conditions such as fluorescent light or direct sunlight, this low reflection coating ensures an optimal contrast ratio for a crisp, vivid picture. This design also allows the TV to be much lighter and much more shallow than conventional CRT TVs.

Magnetic Field: Unlike a standard CRT tube, the LCD does not use an electron beam, so the LCD display is not susceptible to distortion from a nearby magnet (ex: speaker).

Compatibility: The LTM-1575W has a built-in, 181-channel TV tuner that is compatible with NTSC standard broadcast signals. The RF input can accept signals from an external antenna or cable box. In addition, you can connect an optional DTV (digital television) receiver, and other external video sources (DVD, VCR, camcorder, etc) through the unit's line inputs.

HDTV-ready Component Inputs: The LTM-1575W has two component video inputs: one that allows you to connect an optional DTV (digital television) receiver, and another for connecting a source with component video outputs. The Component 1 (DTV) input is capable of receiving 1080i, 720p and 480p video signals; all signals are converted to 768p signals for display. The Component 2 (DVD) input is capable of receiving 480p and 480i video signals. These inputs allow you to connect both a DTV receiver and a progressive scan DVD player.

Display Resolution: The LTM-1575W is a progressive scan TV, with a native resolution of 1280 x 768. The inputs will accept 1080i, 720p, 480i and 480p signals, and it will display them as 768p images.

PC-Capable: This unit has a separate PC input that allows you to use it as a high-resolution computer monitor. The supplied 15-pin D-Sub cable can connect to the monitor outputs of most personal computers, and the mini-jack audio input provides a connection to the PC's sound card.

Picture-In-Picture (PIP): The Picture-In-Picture feature allows you to simultaneously two video sources (TV, VCR, DVD) or watch an external video source while working on your PC. The secondary video image can be displayed in a small window superimposed over the main (or PC) screen or two same-size images can be viewed side-by-side for a Split Picture-and-Picture. With the remote, you can change the TV channel or the source of the secondary image, and swap the main image with the secondary image. In addition, you can independently choose which audio source to listen to through the speakers and which source through the headphones.

Flat Screen: The flat screen delivers images that are virtually distortion free and helps eliminate screen glare.

Aspect Ratio: The aspect ratio of this TV/Monitor is 16:9. When viewing video displayed in the 4:3 aspect ratio, you can choose between the following Screen Sizes: Wide, Panorama, Zoom or Normal.

Adjustable Color Temperature: You can adjust the color temperature of the screen from warm (reddish white) to normal (white) to cool (bluish white). There is also a User Mode, allowing you to customize the individual color components, and a Reset to return the settings to the factory default.

Automatic Picture Settings: In addition to the factory picture settings, the TV/Monitor has two preset Automatic Picture (Mild and Dynamic) settings, plus a Custom setting. The Mild setting (mild contrast) is for low light viewing and video games. The Dynamic setting increases the clarity and sharpness of the picture. If you want a fine adjustment of the picture quality, you can choose the Custom setting, which lets you manually set the contrast, brightness, sharpness, color and tint.

High Contrast Ratio: The contrast ratio of this unit is 400:1 which gives you brilliant brightness and contrast for superior picture and detail from both PC and TV images.

Picture Freeze: This feature allows you to freeze an image on the screen from a video source or PC. You can only activate this feature from the remote control.

Automatic Sound Settings: In addition to the factory sound settings, this unit has three automatic sound settings (Music, Movie and Speech), plus a Custom setting which allows you to adjust and save your personal preferences. The Custom mode includes a 5-band equalizer (100, 300, 1k, 3k, 10k), plus  settings for Virtual Dolby, Auto Volume, MTS and Headphone.

Virtual Dolby Surround: The LTM-1575W has built-in Virtual Dolby Surround which helps create a 3D sound environment without the addition of external speakers.

Headphone Settings: When using headphones, you can independently set the bass, treble, balance and which PIP audio source to listen to.

V-Chip Parental Control: This feature allows you to limit the shows that can be viewed based on the TV Parental Guidelines and a movie's MPAA rating. After setting Parental Control "On", you must enter the password to view blocked programs.

Speakers: This unit uses two full-range speakers and two separate tweeters driven by a 3 watts-per-channel amplifier for a richer and more detailed sound quality.

Lamp Life: The expected life of the backlight lamp is 60,000 hours, which equates to ten hours of use a day for more than sixteen years.

On-screen Menu Language: The on-screen menu language can be set to English, Spanish, or French.

On/Off Timer: The TV can be set to turn on and/or off at a preset time. After the TV clock has been set, you can set a time for the TV to turn on each day and a time for the TV to turn off each day. The on and off timers are independent.

Sleep Timer: This TV can be set to turn off after a preset amount of time. The presets are 10, 20, and 30-360 minutes in 30-minute intervals.

Mounting Options

Detachable Tilt Stand: The LTM-1575W comes attached to a sturdy stand for easy placement on top of a counter or table. The TV can be tilted up to 15 degrees backward for optimum viewing angle. The stand can be easily removed to give you a number of other mounting options.

Wall- or Ceiling-Mounting: The TV/Monitor can be mounted to a wall or ceiling using an optional bracket.

VESA 100 Mounting Bracket Standard: The LTM-1575W's mounting holes for an optional wall-mount bracket are located on the rear panel. The spacing of the mounting holes is in accordance with the industry standards set by VESA (Video Electronics Standards Association).

Kensington Lock: When mounting the monitor in a public place, you can secure it with an optional anti-theft device called a Kensington Lock. This TV/Monitor has a slot on the rear panel to accommodate a Kensington Lock device.

Remote Control

Remote Control (00224B): The supplied IR wireless remote only controls this TV. The basic functions of this remote include: Power, Channel Up/Down, Volume Up/Down, Mute, 0-9 and +100 numeric keypad (direct channel select), Previous channel, TV/Video, Sleep Timer and the On Screen Menu with up/down/left/right navigation buttons. Some advanced features activated from the remote include: Automatic Picture and Sound Mode selection, PC Mode, PIP (including location, channel/source change and size adjustments), V-Chip Guidelines, Closed Captioning, Picture and Sound Mode selections and Aspect Ratio adjustments.

Input and Outputs Notes

Component Video Inputs: There are two component video inputs (Y, Pb, Pr) labeled Component 1(DVD) and Component 2 (DTV). The Component 1 (DVD) input can receive 480i and 480p video signals, allowing connection to a Progressive Scan DVD player. The Component 2 (DTV) input is a wide bandwidth input, capable of receiving 1080i, 720p and 480p video signals, allowing connection to a DTV receiver.

Composite and S-Video Input: The unit has a "VCR" input with stereo audio RCA jacks and both composite and S-Video jacks. This can be used for a VCR or Satellite receiver without component video outputs.

PC Input: The TV/Monitor has video and audio inputs for a personal computer. The video input is a 15-pin D-Sub input and the audio input is a stereo minijack input (audio and video cables supplied).

Headphone Jack: There is a stereo mini-jack on the back of the TV. When headphones are plugged into this jack, the speakers in the TV are not muted. This allows independent selection of sources when in the PIP mode.

Recessed Inputs: The PC, Component 1 (DVD) and Component 2 (DTV) inputs are vertically positioned, and located inside a recessed area of the back panel. This allows you to mount the TV/Monitor flush against a wall. The VCR inputs, and Headphone output are not recessed, but flush with the back panel.
