About the Samsung NX30 Zoom Kit

Eric A.

Frame the perfect shot

With a large imaging sensor and high-quality optics, we know the Samsung NX30 is capable of taking gorgeous pictures; it's just up to you to find the subjects that inspire you. The camera takes the guesswork out of shooting, offering a tilting, swiveling 3" OLED screen that lets you see what you're aiming at from any angle. Samsung took the next logical step as well, adding a tilting electronic viewfinder so you can peer comfortably into the eyepiece even when you're shooting from a low angle. If you can see it, you can shoot it.

Get a zoom lens

The NX30 comes with an 18-55mm lens in the box. It's an ideal lens for getting started with hands-on photography: it can handle anything from a beautiful portrait to wildlife shots, allowing you to zoom in on exactly the feature you want to see. The lens is removable, so you can swap in other optional Samsung NX-mount lenses as you grow as a photographer.

Freeze the action

The NX30 features a lightning-quick shutter that can freeze motion down to 1/8000th of a second. Hybrid autofocus technology locks in on the important part of the image and keeps it razor-sharp as the shutter snaps.

Share easily with Wi-Fi and NFC

Samsung Photo Beam lets you send photos to any NFC-compatible smartphone. Just touch the camera to the device to automatically share the image you're viewing. You can also select and send photos or albums directly to a smartphone or tablet with Samsung Mobile Link. Use Group Share to send images to up to four people simultaneously. Samsung has built in wireless technology that gives you so many ways to share your masterpieces.

  • Smart Auto: The camera recognizes surrounding conditions and automatically adjusts factors that contribute to exposure, including Shutter Speed, Aperture Value, Metering, White Balance, and Exposure Compensation. When you press the shutter release halfway, the camera selects one of 20 scenes, and automatically sets the camera to optimally capture that scene.
  • Program: The camera automatically adjusts shutter speed and aperture value so an optimal exposure value can be achieved. Other adjustments can be made manually. Program Shift allows you to adjust the shutter speed and aperture value while maintaining the same exposure. A minimum shutter speed can also be set.
  • Aperture Priority: The camera selects a shutter speed based on the aperture value you have set manually. You can adjust the depth of field by changing the aperture value.
  • Shutter Priority: The camera selects an aperture value based on the shutter speed you have set manually. You can capture fast-moving subjects with a fast shutter speed or create tracer effects with a slow shutter speed.
  • Manual: Adjust various camera settings including shutter speed and aperture value.
  • Custom: The Custom Modes (1 & 2) let you create your own shooting modes by customizing options and saving them.
  • Lens Priority Mode: Lens Priority mode lets you adjust the depth of field or contrast of the photo, or use the i Zoom function.
  • Smart Mode: In Smart Mode, the camera automatically configures the optimal settings for a variety of shooting situations, including Beauty Face, Best Face, Landscape, Macro, Action Freeze, Rich Tones, Panorama, Waterfall, Multi Exposure, Creative Shot, Smart Jump Shot, Silhouette, Sunset, Night, Fireworks, and Light Trace.
  • Wi-Fi: You can connect the camera the camera to an access point while in the range of a WLAN. Options include MobileLink, Remote Viewfinder, Social Sharing, Email, SkyDrive, Auto Backup, and TV Link.

3D Mode: With an optional 3D lens, you can take 3D photos. In the menu, you can select two 3D methods: Side by Side or Frame Packing. Photo sizes can be 4.1M (2688 x 1512) or 2.1M (1920 x 1080). Images captured in 3D can be saved in JPEG (2D) or MPO (3D). To view 3D images, you must output the photos via HDMI and display them on a 3D HDTV, while wearing the proper 3D glasses.

Drive Modes: The camera offers the following drive modes to suit your shooting needs:

  • Single: Takes one picture only.
  • Continuous: You can continuously capture photos while pressing the shutter release button. Continuous Normal captures up to 4 photos at 5 fps, and Continuous High captures up to 9 photos at 9 fps.
  • Burst Mode: Lets you capture up to 10 shots per second for 3 seconds, 15 shots per second for 2 seconds, or 30 shots per second for 1 second when you press the shutter once in this mode. (Image Size limited to 5M only)
  • Timer: The camera takes a photo after a set delay time. You can set the delay between 2-seconds and 30-seconds in 1 second increments. You can choose up to 10 photos to be taken after the initial delay with a selectable interval (0.5, 1, 1.5 or 2 seconds) between photos.
  • Bracketing: Bracketing allows you to take a series of 3 photos when you press the shutter button once. The first photo is taken at normal settings, while the other two are taken with different settings, depending upon the type of bracketing chosen. You can vary the degree of adjustment between -3 and +3 for each bracket type (except P.Wizard).
    • AE Bracket: 3 photos with different exposure settings.
    • WB Bracket: 3 photos with different White Balance settings.
    • Picture Wizard Bracket: 3 photos with different P.Wizard settings (select standard, vivid, portrait, landscape, forest, retro, cool, calm, or classic)

Exposure Compensation: This camera automatically adjusts the exposure according the ambient light conditions. You can also select the exposure value from +3.0EV to -3.0EV in steps of 1/3EV.

Metering Mode: If you cannot obtain suitable exposure conditions, you can change the camera's metering method to take brighter pictures. You can choose from 3 modes:

  • Multi: Exposure will be calculated based on an average of the available light in the image area. This is suitable for general use.
  • Spot: Only the rectangular area in the center of the LCD monitor will be metered for light. This is suitable when the subject in the center is exposed correctly, regardless of the back lighting.
  • Center Weighted: Exposure will be calculated based on an average of the available light in the image area. However, the calculation will be biased towards the center of the image area. This is suitable for taking a picture of small objects like a flower or insects.

External Flash: The Samsung digital camera does not have a built-in flash, but includes a hot shoe for an external flash, such as the Samsung SEF220A (sold separately). You can choose from the following flash modes: Smart Flash, Auto, Auto Red-eye, Fill-in, Fill-in Red-eye, 1st Curtain, 2nd Curtain, Hi-speed, and Flash Off.

White Balance: The white balance control allows you to adjust the colors to appear more natural. The camera has seven white balance modes: Auto WB, Daylight, Cloudy, Fluorescent White, Fluorescent NW, Fluorescent Daylight, Tungsten, Flash WB, Custom Set, and Color Temperature.

ISO Sensitivity: You can select the ISO sensitivity when taking pictures. The speed or specific light-sensitivity of a camera is rated by ISO numbers. A higher ISO setting allows for faster shutter speed, so you can take photos indoors or in low light without the need for a flash. The camera lets you set the ISO sensitivity automatically or manually between ISO 100-25600 by 1 EV or 1/3 EV steps. Auto ISO settings are selectable up to ISO 3200.
