2.7" High-Resolution LCD: The Samsung SC-MX20 digital memory camcorder
features 2.7", high-resolution (112K pixels) LCD 16:9 (wide-screen) monitor that
rotates up to 270-degrees for bright and clear monitoring. You can adjust the
color and brightness of the LCD monitor for daylight or nighttime viewing.
Note: This digital memory camcorder does not feature a separate
viewfinder.
Swivel Handle: The Samsung
SC-MX20 features a swivel handgrip which allows you to adjust the swivel
handle's angle up to 180-degrees to suit your recording situation.
Image Sensor: The Samsung SC-MX20 digital memory camcorder is equipped with
a 1/6" CCD image sensor which offers a total pixel count of 680,000 and an
effective pixel count of 460,000.
Digital Media: The Samsung SC-MX20 offers video recording on
an inserted SD (512MB-2GB), SDHC (4GB-16GB), or MMCplus (512MB-16GB) memory
card.
Recording Format: The Samsung digital memory camcorder
records standard definition video in H.264. H.264 uses a high compression rate
to sharply increase the recordable time with the same size storage.
Recording Modes: The Samsung SC-MX20 records MPEG-2 video to
an inserted SD/SDHC/MMCplus memory card. Video can be recorded
in 720 x 480 with a 16:9 or 4:3 aspect ratio using one of three quality settings, or 640
x 480 with a 4:3 aspect ratio. The SC-MX20 offers the following recording times
using a 16GB SDHC card.

Note: The
maximum size of a movie (H.264) file that can be recorded at one
time is 1.8GB. You can store up to 9,999 movie images on
one memory card using this camcorder.
Schneider Kreuznach Lens: The Samsung digital memory camcorder uses a high
performance Schneider Kreuznach Lens, with extremely low distortion and
astigmatic aberration tolerances, resulting in natural, accurate video. The
powerful 34x optical zoom lets you get closer to the action with a bright F1.6
lens that lets more light through to the image sensor. The minimum possible
distanced between the camcorder and your subject while maintaining a sharp focus
is approximately 0.39" for wide angle and 39.4" for telephoto.
Digital Zoom: In addition to the camcorder's 34x optical
zoom lens, the SC-MX20 offers a 1200x digital zoom for extreme close-ups.
Hyper Digital Image Stabilizer: The Hyper Digital Image Stabilizer
eliminates the effects of shakes to ensure extremely sharp pictures even when
zooming in for close-ups.
Focus: The digital memory camcorder usually focuses on a subject
automatically, but you can also manually focus a subject depending on the
recording conditions.
Face Detection AF: The Samsung digital memory camcorder detects a subject's face and
automatically adjust the brightness and image quality, so faces are recorded
more vividly.
Recording Modes: The Samsung SC-MX20 offers various video record
modes to choose from to fit your application and comfort level.
- Easy Q Mode: The Easy Q mode is designed for beginners. With the
Easy Q function, most of the digital memory camcorder settings are automatically
adjusted, which relieves you of detailed adjustments.
- Auto: The digital memory camcorder will automatically set the shutter
speed and aperture according to the subject brightness for optimum
recording.
- iScene: You can specify on of 8 scene modes depending on
conditions, recording environment, or purpose of filming.
- Sports: for recording people or objects moving quickly
- Portrait: creates a shallow depth of field so that the person
or subject appears against a softened background
- Spotlight: prevents overexposure of a subject's face when
strong light strikes the subject
- Beach: when recording seaside or lakeside scenes, the blue
water is clearly recorded
- Snow: when recording a snowy scene that makes the screen all
white, this setting prevents sunken colors and records images clearly
- High Speed: reduces blurring when recording rapidly moving
subjects
- Food: records the color of subjects clearly by increasing
saturation
- Waterfall: recording a splashing waterfall or fountain
- Manual: Necessary settings for shooting are automatically
adjusted, but you can manually adjust the exposure and shutter speed.
Exposure: The Samsung
digital memory camcorder usually adjust the exposure automatically. You can also
manually adjust the exposure depending on the recording conditions.
Backlight: When the subject
is lit from behind, this function will compensate for lighting so that the
subject is not too dark.
White Balance: You can adjust the color balance to the
brightness of the recording environment. You can choose from the following.
- Auto: The camcorder controls the white balance automatically.
- Daylight: This controls the white balance according to the
outdoor ambience, especially when the subject is of one dominant color.
- Cloudy: This option is used when you make a recording in cloudy
weather
- Fluorescent: This option is used when you make a recording under
white fluorescent lights.
- Tungsten: This option is for when there is less than 3200K of
tungsten light being used.
- Custom WB: You can manually adjust the white balance to match the
light source or situation.
Digital Effect: The Digital Effect modes enable you to give a creative
look to your video recordings. You can choose from the following.
- B&W: This mode changes the images to black and white.
- Sepia: This mode gives the images a reddish brown pigment.
- Negative: This mode reverses the colors, creating a negative
image.
- Art: This mode gives the image a coarse effect.
- Emboss: This mode creates a 3D effect (embossing).
- Mosaic: This mode give the image a mosaic effect.
- Mirror: This mode cuts the picture in half, using a mirror
effect.
- Pastel: This mode applies a pale pastel drawing effect to an
image.
- Cosmetic: This mode helps adjust for facial imperfections.
- Stepprinting: Technique of recording the image in segments.
C. Nite: You can make the subject recorded appear to be in slow-motion
by controlling the shutter-speed, or brighten an image in dark places without a
compromise in colors.
Time Lapse: During this feature, images are automatically shot with an
adjustable interval between frames, and stored on an inserted SD/SDHC or MMCplus memory
card. You can adjust the interval between each frame to 1, 3, 5, 10, 15, or 30
seconds.
Guidelines: Guideline displays a certain pattern on the camcorder's
LCD screen so that you can easily set the image composition when recording
images. You can choose from the following guidelines.
- Cross: Enables you to center the subject for proper recording.
- Grid: Enables you to place the subject in the center square for
proper positioning.
- Safety Zone: Enables you to place the subject within a safety
zone which prevents it being cut when editing in 4:3 for left and right and
2.35:1 for top and bottom.
- Off: Disables the function.
Wind-Cut: This feature allows you to reduce wind noise when recording
sound from the camcorder's built-in microphone.
Clock (Visit): You can easily set the camcorder's internal clock to
the local time zone when traveling. The clock can be set to a 12 hr or 24 hr
format.
Playback Features
Playback Functions: The SC-MX20 allows you to playback your recorded
videos on the camcorder's LCD monitor. The digital memory camcorder offers playback
functions such as Play/Pause/Stop, Fast-Forward/Reverse (2x, 4x, 8x, 16x),
Previous/Next, Frame-by-Frame, and Forward Slow-Playback (1/2x).
Fader: You can give your video recordings a professional look by using
special effects such as fade-in at the beginning of a sequence or fade-out at
the end of a sequence.
Delete: You can delete saved movie or photo images from the inserted memory card.
Protect: You can protect important movie and photo images on the inserted memory card from accidental
erasure.
Battery Information
Rechargeable Battery: The Samsung SC-MX20 operates off of a
proprietary rechargeable Lithium-Ion battery (IA-BP85ST). Taking advantage of
advanced power consumption technology, The SC-MX20's rechargeable battery can
provide up to 180 minutes of video recording and 300 minutes of video playback.
AC Adapter/Charger: The Samsung SC-MX20 comes supplied with an AC
adapter/charger which allows you to operate the digital memory camcorder off of
standard household current and also charges the included battery in 120 minutes.
Auto Power: For power saving purposes, the digital memory
camcorder will automatically turn off it there is no operation for 5 minutes
when in Standby mode or in thumbnail index view.
Connections
USB Port: The Samsung SC-MX20 features a mini-USB type-B port so you can
view your recordings on a computer using the supplied USB cable.
AV Output: You can view the recorded video and photo images from the
Samsung SC-MX20 on your television by connecting the supplied composite A/V
cable between the digital memory camcorder and your TV. You can set the camcorder's
video output to 16:9 or 4:3.
Note: This unit only supports NTSC playback; not compatible with
PAL.

CyberLink MediaShow4: The Samsung SC-MX20 comes supplied with a CD-ROM
which contains CyberLink MediaShow4 software. CyberLink MediaShow4 is a software
for easy editing of MPEG, AVI, and other video files. When you install the CyberLink MediaShow4 software on your Windows computer, you
can enjoy the following operations by connecting your camcorder to your computer
via the included USB cable.
- Viewing video on your computer
- easy import from the connected camcorder
- fun file-management with MediaShow's 3D fluid interface
- Direct upload to YouTube (if you are a Mac user, you can upload
your content to YouTube using iMovie)
