Overview: The Samsung SEF42A external flash unit is designed
for use with the Samsung NX-series and the TL500 digital cameras. It has a large
LCD panel on the back to allow you to check the status of the flash, and set the
Flash Modes: The flash supports the A-TTL (Advanced
Through-the-Lens) flash mode when used with a compatible Samsung camera. The
light entering through the lens is measured and an appropriate level of exposure
is calculated, basing the exposure and shutter speed set to the camera in the A-TTL
Power Requirements: The SEF42A is powered by 4 "AA" alkaline or
Nickel-Metal Hydride (Ni-MH) rechargeable batteries. With "AA" alkaline
batteries, you can get approximately 220 flashes, and the recycling time is
approximately 8-60 seconds between flashes. If "AA" Ni-MH batteries are used,
you can get approximately 280 flashes with a 6-60 second recycling time.
Flash Angles: If you wish to use bounced flash, you can adjust the
angle of the flash unit vertically to 45°, 60°,
75°, and 90°.
Bounced flash creates less shadow than direct flash, and the light is more
uniformly distributed to the subject.
Flash Adjust: You can adjust the amount of flash light that
is emitted when the flash is in the manual mode. The LCD panel will indicate the
selected amount of flash as a PR value: 1/1, 1/2, 1/4, 1/8, 1/16, or 1/32.
Zoom: The SEF42A has a built-in power zoom head, which can
be controlled through the camera, to automatically set an appropriate range of
flash light according to the focal distance of the zoom lens in use. You can
either set the focal distance automatically in a range of 28-105mm, or manually,
using the zoom button on the flash, to a focal distance of 28, 35, 50, 80, or
105mm. The focal distance appears in the LCD panel.
Flash Stand: When not using the flash, you can store it on the
included stand. The flash unit is supported by its hot-shoe connection on the
