Features
Overview: The Wii Fit for the Nintendo Wii Video Game Console combines
video gaming and fitness in one product. It challenges your strength,
flexibility, endurance, balance, and movement. The ease of use and interactivity
of the Wii Fit along with your Wii Remote and Nunchuk (provided with Wii Video
Game System) allows for a unique fitness activity for your whole family. The Wii
Fit is a combination of fitness and fun, designed for everyone, young and old.
By playing Wii Fit a little every day, you, your friends, and your family can
work towards personal goals of better health and fitness. The Wii Fit includes
the Wii Fit CD-ROM, Wii Fit Balance Board, and four extension sensor feet.
Note: The Wii Fit requires a Nintendo Wii Video Game Console
connected to a TV, Wii Remote and Nunchuk. Only one Wii Balance Board can be
registered to a single Wii system, and a maximum of 10 balance board and Wii
Remote combinations can be registered. You will navigate the menus of the Wii Fit primarily using
your Wii Remote. During a Body Test and during Training, you will be mainly
using the Wii Balance Board which comes with the Wii Fit.
Wii Balance Board: The Wii Balance Board accessory was created from
the ground up to work with Wii Fit and your Nintendo Wii Video Game Console. The
Wii Balance Board is wireless and features an IR transmitter
which transmits an IR signal to your Wii Video Game Console's Sensor Bar and
pressure sensitive sensor feet which calculates your body movement. The
Wii Balance Board will need to be synced with your Will Video Game console
before it initial use. The Balance Board operates off of four "AA" batteries
(not supplied). The Wii Balance Board t is an innovative peripheral for the Wii that
is simple, fun, and it is a great way to get you off of the couch and
exercising. The Wii Balance Board is more than just a scale; it can read your
real-life movements and bring them to life on your TV screen, just like your Wii
Remote controller. You can realistically snowboard down a mountain or walk a
tight rope; it is just one more way to get into the action.
Note: Make sure that the Wii Remote can be used within 3 to 10
feet of the sensor bar when standing on the Wii Balance Board. Wii Balance
Board foot extensions (included in the package) can be added to the Balance
Sensor feet if it is being used on thick carpet. Please remove your shoes
and socks and stand on the Wii Balance Board in your bare feet. The Balance
Board has a maximum weight limit of 330 lbs.
Choose a Mii: You will need
to choose a Mii from the selection of Miis saved on your Nintendo Wii Game
Console System. Your Mii's appearance will change in size based on your actual
weight recorded by the Wii Fit.
Calendar Screen: The Wii
Fit features a monthly calendar screen. From the calendar screen, you can view
your training calendar, check graphs, do a Body Test, or jump right into
training. Today's date is highlighted in yellow. The days that you performed a
Body Test are marked with a stamp. If you select a date with a stamp, you can
see detailed information on the Body Test you took that day. The red
flag represents the date that you set as your goal deadline.
Body Test: The Body Test in the Wii Fit is a short and simple set of
activities used to gauge your body's performance. After choosing a Mii (a
virtual caricature unique to Wii ) to represent you, use the Wii Balance Board
to measure your center of balance, Body Mass Index (BMI), and body control.
Based on these results, you can also determine your Wii Fit Age. The whole
family can engage in the Body Test and compare their progress together. The Wii
Fit works best if you perform a Body Test every day so you can chart your daily
progress and compare it against previous results.
- Balance: The Body Test will begin simply by checking your center
of balance. After stepping onto the Wii Balance Board with your feet spread
equally apart, the Wii Fit will check the balance of your posture and your
BMI (Body Mass Index). Once the measurement is complete, you will be able to
see where your center of balance is located and what your BMI is currently.
- BMI/Weight: Your BMI, or Body Mass Index, is determined in Wii
Fit by a formula comparing your weight and height. You will even be asked
for variables such as the weight of your clothes, so Wii Fit can provide you
with an accurate measurement. Once your BMI is displayed, you will have the
option of seeing your weight as well, but that is completely up to you. In
fact, you can even protect your information from other users with a private
PIN number.
- Body Control: After discovering your BMI, you will then test your
body control. Wii Fit measures your body control by using two randomly
selected balance tests. Perform the tests by following the simple on-screen
instructions and giving it your best shot. After completing these tests, you
will be given your Wii Fit Age.
- Wii Fit Age: Your Wii Fit Age will be calculated based on your
balance-test results, taking into consideration your actual age. Keep in
mind: Your Wii Fit Age is only a measurement of your current performance, so
if you are unhappy with it, you will have another opportunity to improve it
the next time you play.
- Track Progress: Once you have completed the Body Test, you can
stamp the calendar, so you can keep track of your activity. During your
first and subsequent Body Tests, you will be asked if you would like to set
a BMI goal for some point in the future which can be customized to fit your
schedule.
Note: The BMI categories (underweight, normal,
overweight, and obese) displayed by Wii Fit may be overestimated for people
who have a heavy or muscular build, and may be underestimated for people who
have a lighter build, or who are older adults. For players under 20 years of age: The BMI assessment in Wii
Fit is designed for adults, not for players between ages 2 and 19. However,
players ages 2 - 19 can get a BMI measurement for informational use only.
Set Goals: When you first play The Wii Fit, you will be asked to set a
goal for yourself concerning your BMI. You can set goals, including what
time-frame, and where you would like to end up. Goals appear on the calendar and
your graphs, so it is easy to visually see your progress as you approach your
goals. You' will also receive feedback from Wii Fit, updating you and
encouraging you towards meeting these goals.
Charting Progress: Check your daily progress in Wii Fit with
easy-to-understand charts and graphs. The orange line you see in the center of
the graph represents your BMI the first time you checked it. From then on, it is
easy to tell how you have done since you started using the Wii Fit. You can also
set goals, check your Wii Fit Age, and even enter exercise time you have done
outside of Wii Fit.
Graph: The Wii Fit provides simple graphs detailing your progress in
your BMI, weight, Wii Fit Age and Fit Credit, as well as a calendar to monitor
your training and goals. You can compare the calendar and graphs with up to 8
people on the same Wii Fit game, so the whole family can get involved.
Training: Training is at the core of the Wii Fit. You can spend as
much (or as little) time as you want trying out all of the 40+ activities the
Wii Fit offers. Each game is designed to help you work your way to a more fit
you. Depending on your preference, you can get a structured workout with an
in-game personal trainer in Yoga or Strength Training, or for something faster
paced and less structured you can try your hand at the Aerobics or Balance Game.
The Wii Fit includes four training modes and more than 40 exercises and
activities designed to help improve body balance and fitness.
- Yoga: The Wii Fit includes Yoga poses that tone muscles and
improve posture. You get realistic training from an on-screen instructor who
can detect how your performance is going. If you are shaking during a Yoga
pose, the trainer might respond with helpful tips on how to calm down with
deep breathing. The Wii Fit includes such Yoga poses at the Tree, Warrior,
Half Moon, Sun Salutation, Downward Dog, Chair, Triangle, and more.
- Aerobic: The Wii Fit includes aerobic exercises that help you
burn your body fat. If your BMI (Body Mass Index) is running a little high,
the Wii Fit Aerobic work-outs are a great way to burn calories. The Aerobic
workout section is full of exercises designed to help you tone your body.
Here, you can place the Wii Remote controller in your pocket and go for a
jog around a virtual island, while you wave to friendly Miss passing
by. You can choose from aerobic exercises such a Hula Hoop, Basic Step,
Advanced Step, Basic Run, Advanced Run, 2 People Run, and more.
- Strength: The Wii Fit includes strength training workouts to
build and tone your muscles. Strength training is a great way to build and
tone your muscles with Wii Fit. You will get one-on-one instructions from an
on-screen trainer who can help guide you through the exercises. If your
push-ups are a little shaky, you will receive breathing tips as well as
advice on keeping a good pace; things that are difficult to notice when
training alone. The Wii Fit includes such Strength exercises as Single Let
Extensions, Torso Twists, Push-Up with Side Plank, Jack-Knife, Lunge, and
more.
- Balance: The Wii Fit includes games that help develop your sense
of balance, such as Soccer Heading, Ski Slalom, Ski Jump, or Table Title.
Your center of balance, the point between your left and right sides when you
are standing upright, has a lot to do with your health. Those without an
even center of balance will be unnaturally compensating for this imbalance,
which causes their posture to become misaligned, increasing the possibility
of putting unnecessary strain on their body. Wii Fit can help you learn more
about your balance, and give you tips on how to improve it.
Advanced Training: As you progress in training, it is only natural you
will get better at the Wii Fit activities. When you reach certain benchmarks in
training, new levels of difficulty will become available, increasing the number
of options you have for your workout. Continuous training will also lead to
receiving new tips on how to combine trainings. One example is combining the
Warrior pose from Yoga with the Lunge from Strength Training.
Favorites: In addition to the standard four training modes, there is
also a Favorites section included in the Wii Fit. In this section, you can
select from a list of 10 activities you choose most often; it is different for
each user.
Exercise Demos: All activities in the Yoga and Strength Training
categories allow you to view a 3D model of your chosen exercise, as performed by
a virtual trainer. You can even view it in real-time, from almost any angle and
depth, until you completely understand the correct body movements and positions.
Feedback: During and after many of the Wii Fit training activities,
you will gain important feedback on your performance. For example, during Yoga
and Strength Training, you will receive detailed animations of where your center
of balance is during your workout. Afterwards, based on your performance, you
will receive personal feedback that can help you improve your following
sessions. Understanding your balance during workouts is essential to a good
training.
Personal Rankings: After every activity, you will l receive a star
rating indicating how you performed along with your results. This is then
compared to the other users who play Wii Fit, so you can see how the rest of
your friends and family scored compared to you. If you are not satisfied with
the rating you achieve, you can try as many times as you would like to improve
your score.
Activity Log: Record the time you spend exercising outside of Wii Fit
on the Fit Credits graph using the Activity Log. Simply select it from the menu
and enter the amount of time you spent doing light, medium, or heavy exercise.
When you start comparing your activity log and calendar to your graphs, you will
see the positive affect your activity level has on your BMI.
Wii Fit Bank: As you do your daily training, you'll earn more Fit
Credits that go into your Wii Fit Bank. As your Fit Credits add up, more
activities will become available to you. To put it simply; the more you play,
the more activities you will be able to do.
Wii Fit Channel: With Wii Fit, you can install a channel in the Wii
Menu so that you can perform a Body Test and view your graph without having to
insert the Wii Fit Game Disc. For example, if you happen to have the Wii Sports
Game Disc in the Wii console, you can still check your weight via the Wii Fit
Channel without switching game.
Trial Mode: Trial mode is available for anyone who wants to try out
the Wii Fit, without the commitment of creating a new profile. You can quickly
determine a new user's Wii Fit Age, or have them engage in one of 15 different
fun exercises. Your friends can use Trial Mode if they want to try the Wii Fi.
User Settings: It is easy to change your User Settings on the Wii Fit.
- Edit Profile: Change your height, birth date, and set a password
to protect your information from other users.
- Change Design: You can change the calendar color and stamp
design.
- Change Trainer: Change the gender of your trainer.
- Delete User Data: In case you'd like to remove your info
completely from Wii Fit.
