Our take on the Parrot CK3100

by Dominic Devito
Parrot

We carry cell phone kit harnesses that allow plug-in connection of Parrot's Bluetooth car kits in a wide variety of vehicles.

Want hands-free phone operation and control of your phone's features when behind the wheel? Parrot's CK3100 Bluetooth cell phone car kit connects to almost any car stereo system so you can take calls from your Bluetooth phone through your car's speakers. A small LCD screen mounted on your dash displays caller information and allows access to your phone's menu functions.

The CK3100 control panel installs beneath the dashboard, so all you see is the small dash-mounted LCD screen/keypad and an external microphone. Once your car's engine starts, the kit connects automatically to your Bluetooth phone. With the microphone mounted, just say a name and the CK3100 takes care of the dialing. The CK3100 can work with up to five Bluetooth devices at one time.

You control your phone's menu functions with the dash-mounted LCD screen and 3-button keypad. From dialing to phonebook to voicemail, the keypad and voice prompts will guide you easily through functions as you keep your eyes on the road. You can change the volume with the press of a button.

Parrot's LCD screen displays valuable information from your phone, including Caller ID, listings for the last calls received and dialed, plus dialing with numbers. You can even see the strength of your phone's signal.

The voice recognition software remembers up to 150 names from your phone's address book for dialing (only works with certain phones). Noise reduction on the external microphone lets you carry on a conversation in a normal tone — no need to shout, even in heavy traffic. Most importantly, the CK3100 is programmed to mute your car's radio at the onset of an incoming call, ensuring clear sound over your car's speakers.

Access email and text messages with your voice
This device is now compatible with TextFriendly®, a service which allows you to access your email and text messages, all by voice activation. You can listen to, delete, compose, reply, and forward without taking your eyes off the road. TextFriendly also works with Facebook and Twitter updates, and is compatible with all phones that work with your Parrot device. You get a year of free service from Parrot — after that, you pay $4.99 a month, or $39.99 a year.

The Parrot CK3100 is compatible with all Bluetooth cell phones and installs with most factory and aftermarket car stereo systems. Some factory systems may require an additional wiring adapter.

Note: Compatibility of this device may vary, depending on your phone and service provider.

  • hard-wired Bluetooth car kit includes microphone, dash-mounted LCD screen/keypad, and control unit for hands-free cell phone use

  • warranty: 1 year
  • Our 60-day money-back guarantee

Note: Crutchfield carries cell phone kit harnesses that allow easy, plug-in connection of Parrot's Bluetooth car kits in a wide variety of vehicles. The CK3100 can also be hard-wired to your car's stereo system. You may have to drill one or more holes into the dash or remove and remount the dashboard face to make the component connections completely free from visible wires, but hiding the wires is not necessary to operate the system.

makes clear calls

Written By OKguy, OKC, OK on Monday, September 30, 2013

This device works flawlessly. It pairs quickly and easily with my iPhone 5. You do not need to manually load contacts. It captured all contacts in my phone within seconds of pairing. I was toying with the idea of getting a double DIN receiver which could make and receive Bluetooth calls but this device allows you to keep the OEM stereo (could be a bad thing) for a cleaner look. I've only taken a handful of calls on it so far but everyone says they can hear me clearly. Installation was very simple with the optional Metra harness that was specific for my 2012 Tacoma. It was a little tight finding space for the harness and Parrot components behind the OEM stereo. I'd say the installation took roughly 1.5 hours (I'm slower than most) and it is very discrete. Only the LCD screen is visible and it's fairly small.
Pros:
It does what it's supposed to do and does it well. My calls are clear on both ends. Pairs with my phone quickly. Automatically syncs contacts. Easy installation - assuming you can remove a stereo and opt for the wiring harness.
Cons:
Initiating calls on the Parrot controller is cumbersome. It's easier to do from the phone.

Works well. Installed in '04 Honda Pilot with factory nav system. Used BT1721A adapter harness and it fit perfect, even though fit chart at Crutchfield said it would not work (have alerted Tech Support to update their chart).
Pros:
Performs as advertised.
Cons:
Instructions are weak.

Christmas gift

Written By Rescue31, Mt. Holly, NC on Wednesday, January 02, 2013
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought this for my wife's 2004 Honda Odyssey. I want her to be able to use her HTC Droid Incredible safely in the car when she plays taxi driver for our 15 y/o twin daughters. I purchased it online from Crutchfield.com without any knowledge of Bluetooth. I received it within 3 days from Crutchfield.com but just wrapped it for my wife without opening the package. I have to say I was a little daunted after she opened it on Christmas day and I took a look at the wiring harnesses that were supplied by Parrot. That's because I purchased an Odyssey specific harness from Crutchfield when I purchased the CK3100 so I figured that was all the wiring that would be required. That was not the case. I rate this a 4 instead of 5 because the instructions Parrot supplies with the product leave a lot to be desired. I even went to the Parrot website but after checking out their Support link there nothing there that is any better than what is supplied with the kit. I ended up contacting Crutchfield support and searching YouTube videos for some help. The Odyssey specific harness has 0 instructions supplied with it. After talking with Crutchfield support I felt a bit more confident about installing the kit. Basically after accessing the radio all you have to do is unplug the vehicle harness from the radio and start plugging in the vehicle specific harness and the Parrot harnesses. They will only fit one way. I'm an aircraft mechanic and we have a term for that we call "idiot proof".
Pros:
Once installed it appears pretty easy to operate. My family is on a day trip to go snow tubing just 1 day after I installed the kit. I called them right after they left and my wife said she could hear me good and thus far has had no problems. I could hear a little road noise while she talked but was able to understand her just fine.
Cons:
Very disappointed with Parrot's installation instruction diagram. Particularly with the size of the diagram. You almost need a magnifying glass to read it. Do not expect to go to their website and find anything different. I get the feeling they figure everyone can afford a professional installer so they don't really support the DIYer. Shame on Parrot because they could do better.

Works

Written By Stan, Marion, IA on Tuesday, November 06, 2012

My work declared 'hands free phone use' in company trucks and installed this unit. It only actively links to one phone at a time. If you leave the truck running and walk away the phone links to the parrot and when you answer the phone no one is there but the speaker in the truck is on. The price is the same as a new bluetooth radio so if you want a single unit just replace the existing radio with a bluetooth capable unit.
Pros:
I didn't have to pay for it. If this is the only way to get hands free it is a good unit to buy as it works well.
Cons:
2nd unit in truck.

Won't make that mistake again!

Written By haef, Ithaca, NY on Monday, October 15, 2012

First, pray it doesn't need a firmware update to work with your phone. That is a nightmareish bluetooth procedure, complicated by the fact Parrot has a totally illogical numbering scheme for firmware versions. Parrot tech support is rude and unhelpful.

The unit itself, when working, is easy to use. But mine has taken to increasingly and randomly powering up with a blank screen and beeping noise. Pairing is sometimes quite simple, sometimes a mess, depending on your phone model.

Call quality is decent, but you must get the mic right by your head, and speak quite assertively. Menus spoken by the unit are programmed at inconsistent levels, so it will say one prompt softly followed by ANOTHER REALLY LOUDLY, scaring everyone out of their seats. Gain structuring between prompts and phone volume makes it rather fussy to keep the volume under control.

Monochrome display is simple and easy to read. Unit is a bit of a project to wire into the receiver. I'd really rather have a receiver with a well-integrated hands free kit.
Pros:
Easy to use and read.
Cons:
Not well made and not well supported. Just not worth the hassle when there are better solutions out there.

Parrot helps with cell phone safetyI

Written By Corine, Folsom, CA on Sunday, July 22, 2012
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I really like my Parrot hands free device. it is easy to learn to use. I can hear the person that I'm speaking to great and they can usually hear me well too, unless I hit a "dead zone". I would recommend this device to all those drivers who use one hand to hold their cell phone while trying to navigate their cars in parking lots and while cutting in and out of traffic.

Works wonderfully

Written By AdamK, Dallastown, PA on Sunday, April 29, 2012
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought the Parrot CK3100 and a Metra BT-1721-A wire harness adapter for my 2003 Honda Odyssey. The installation itself took about 2.5 hours, but the majority of that was figuring out where to place the microphone and display unit, and then hiding all the wiring. Once powered up and paired with my wife's and my phone, it worked pretty much flawlessly. It imported my contacts with ease, the voice recognition worked well, the radio muted as it should have. I have a work vehicle with Ford's Sync installed and the two behave almost identically. With my work vehicle, I get Sync's voice and display via the MFD, but I don't see a whole lot of differences between the two once I got the Parrot up and running. The only real difference is the Sync's ability to do A2DP, but the Parrot MKi series are able to do that, I believe.
Pros:
When paired with the Metra wire harness, installation was painless and quick.
Cons:
The double sided tape, included for mounting, would not stick to my dashboard. I had to use some industrial strength velcro instead.

Parrot CK3100

Written By S&S Audio, Butte, MT on Thursday, April 19, 2012

I got this in the mail opened it up and installed it in one hour. I recommend the Metras wiring harness it made this install easy. I also advise that if you have never done a 12 volt install a car to go out to youtube and put in your make am model and search on how to put an aftermarket stereo in. I found a 7 min video on how to do it. After it was installed it was so easy to pair up the device. Now i just have to let my wife play with adjusting all the settings to how she likes it.
Pros:
Wiring harness and easy pairing
Cons:
The instructions are vague when it comes to determining which side of the harness is for 12v and which is speaker.

Easy install in 2008 Toyota Yaris HB. AM/FM/CD radio in car is a JVC KD HDR1. Replaced factory radio couple years ago. Using a HTC Incredible on Verizon Wireless. No problem pairing. Works fantastic!! Be sure to purchase additional wire harness for Toyota to make the job a piece of cake to install. Control head is easy to operate, display easy to read, day or night. If you are a DIY type of person this unit will give you no hassel. Audio quality is great over car speaker system. Voice recognition feature makes it a breeze to make a call. Push the call button and let your voice do the rest. Very pleased so far with the Parott CK3100.
Pros:
Easy to install and operate.

Difficult Installation

Written By Steve, Oxford, PA on Monday, July 04, 2011
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The Parrot CK3100 looks like a good product, but I almost gave up on the installation. I bought it from Crutchfield because of the good experience I have had with their Tech Support on the seven other radioes I have bought from them over the last 30 years. The Parrot manual was so generic that it was almost useless. The Crutchfield Tech Support guy didn't seem to have much better information, and I almost gave up and shipped the equipment back. But he hung in there and we worked throug the connections I needed to make to connect the Crutchfiled supplied harness to the vehicle and the Parrot CK3100. I'm glad I didn't give up.

Parrot CK-3100 is nice and easy

Written By DennisA, Highland, MD on Friday, May 13, 2011
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Bought this unit with the harness for my mothers 2009 Honda CRV - easy
installation and great sound quality, both in the car and for the person on the
other end of the line. As someone else noted, the most time consuming part of
the installation was removing the overhead light/console and fishing the
microphone wire over the headliner, down the A-pillar and to the factory radio.
There is plenty of room behind/under the radio for the parrot box and the wiring
harness. I drilled a small hole in the dash for the cable running to the control
faceplate - which I surface mounted with double sided tape (included in the
kit). The printed Parrot directions were kind of skimpy, but on-line FAQ's
answered questions that the directions didn't. Bluetooth pairing with the phone
is a snap. This unit is highly recommended - enough features to be very useful,
but not so many that it causes confusion to those who are "technology challenged".

Parrot in a Subaru

Written By Tlover, East Wenatchee, WA on Wednesday, January 26, 2011
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I installed the Parrot in my 2011 Subaru Legacy. The installation was tricky because no
instructions were available. The bezel around the stereo and heater controls had to be
removed, and this was difficult. Once that was done, installation was easy. The voice
command function works most of the time, but occasionally calls the wrong person.
Sound quality through my stereo is excellent. Generally, this is a very good product.
Make sure to place the microphone as close to your mouth as is possible so the person
on the other end can hear you.

Parrot CK3100

Written By Rich, Connecticut on Monday, July 26, 2010
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This product ROCKS! I installed this in my 2009 Ford Ranger with an Alpine 9885 Head Unit. Make sure you order the correct T cable for your application. The CK3100 took me about 2 hours to install. Mostly spending time taking the dash apart and putting it back together. Once your inside the dash, its no more then 10 or 15 minutes to plug the cables together and verify the operation. I mounted the microphone on the drivers side column grab handle. I just stuck the display on the dash. I went to my iPhone, turned bluetooth on and paired it to the CK3100, it instantly downloaded the address book and all my contacts. I pressed the green button and gave it a test. It worked first shot. And sounds really good on both ends. The beauty of this device is that it doesn't just mute the audio, it actually has a relay in the control unit that drops the audio out and connects the speakers to the ck3100 - this is a great feature since you will never have to worry about over driving your speakers or damaging your audio system.

Parrot CK3100

Written By Robin, Burke, VA on Saturday, November 14, 2009
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I installed this unit in my 2003 Toyota Camry. My car has the factory installed JBL stereo which means that an aftermarket bluetooth device such as this will not interface with it, and phone will not play through the car speakers. I needed to purchase the separate speaker kit. The speaker is small, so it does not take up much space, but the sound is excellent. The radio does not have a mute line in, so you will want to turn off your radio when on the phone.

The CK3100 device pairs with both my phone (Samsung Omnia) and my wife's (LG VX10000 Voyager) with no problem. The phone book is automatically downloaded to the Parrot providing access to everything on the phone. The display is great, and more importantly, operation is easy, and sound quality on both ends of the phone is excellent.

I have tested voice dialing, and it worked flawlessly. There are two ways to dial by voice: by training the Parrot for each phone book entry and by passing your commands to your phone to use its voice dialing function.

With a visor-type device you have to remember to turn it off and on whenever you get in or leave the car. If you forget to turn it off, and your phone rings when in the house, you'd never know because it is ringing in the car. Because the CK3100 is integrated with the car's ignition, and is powered by the car's battery, it is on whenever you are in the car, and off when you are not. That is great!

Great ... When it Works ...

Written By Michael, San Diego, CA on Monday, November 24, 2008
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

My wife and I really loved this unit. It looks good, it was relatively easy to install, fit nicely under the dash and it was very easy to use. But we ended up sending it back.

It seems to have an issue with heat. We live in Southern California and it seems that every two to three weeks or so, we'd get the "white screen of death": just a blank white screen, sometimes with an odd warning tone or sometimes completely without the tones you'd normally get when it powers up. And when the ignition was turned off, the unit would stay illuminated and not power down as it should.

The only solution to this (after two calls to Parrot and another to Crutchfield) seems to be to pull apart the dash and reseat all the connections on the main controller, as well as the cable connection on the back of the display. I've now done it at least six times and I'm tired.

We considered getting a replacement, but we have read other reports of heat induced failures on the web.

I also have to say that Parrot support is less than stellar. If I had more space here, I'd say more on that.

Crutchfield service is ALWAYS great, though. And I will buy from them again, in large part, because of that.

So, if you are considering buying this, think about where you live and if it EVER gets really hot in your car (think summer).

I wish I could say otherwise, because this seems to have everything you could possibly want in an aftermarket hands-free device.

But I can't.

Outstanding Product

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I installed the CK3100 on my Honda CR-V and am extremely pleased with the results. Installation with the available harness was a breeze. Sound quality is as good as that on my other car which has factory installed Bluetooth. I encountered on glitch (I forgot to make one connection) which was quickly fixed with assistance from Crutchfield's outstanding tech support team. The only thing I would suggest be changed is that Parrot's installation guide is too limited; it could be a little more descriptive. Overall I am extremely happy and highly recommend Parrot's unit to anyone.

Excellent Product and Easy Install

Written By Joshua, Sacramento, California on Saturday, July 12, 2008
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I installed the CK 3100 in a 2005 Ford Escape. Using the wiring harness from Crutchfield made the install a breeze. I used the double sided tape to attach the display unit under the stereo, next to the air/heat controls. I took apart the display unit to run the cable out the back instead of the bottom without difficulty. I drilled a hole in the overhead light compartment and ran the microphone through the hole, slipped it under the headliner and down the window pillar to the control box, which I installed under the dash on the passenger side. Total install time, between ninety minutes and two hours. Parrot synced automatically with Blackjack II and Tilt/8925, donwloading contacts automatically. Clarity is great, but not excellent. Had to adjust the mic fairly low to get good sound for those listenting to me through the unit, otherwise a lot of vehicle/road noise would come through. The only reason I gave it 4/5 stars is that it would be perfect if I could also stream music from my phone. All in all, well worth the money.

Must have for any driver!

Written By Dan, Austin, TX on Friday, July 11, 2008
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Great product. Install was seamless with the additional OEM wiring harness. However, installation/wiring instructions are almost nonexistant, so connecting the addtl. wiring harness to the included cables was a little confusing. The connector for the speaker wires on the addtl. harness is the same as the connector for the power wires, so i had to examine the wire colors and the Parrot manual's wiring diagram to make the right connection. Previous knowledge of my car's wire color codes was also helpful. I have an '01 Tahoe, factory stereo, onstar(deactivated) and factory external amp. The changeover between radio sound and phone call sound is a tiny bit rough (i.e. sometimes there's a soft pop noise during switchover, but not loud enough to be bothersome); but that could be caused because of the external factory amp. The LCD brightness is all the way up by default, so you'll need to turn it down for safer night driving. It's the perfect system, I don't know why anyone would go for the bigger/bulkier color screen model. Installation Caveat: I've performed about 10 stereo installastions on various SUVs, so I'm familiar with dashboard removal, wiring colors, wire routing etc.

Parrot CK3100

Written By Bradley, Cupertino, CA on Tuesday, July 08, 2008
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This was sooooo easy to install into my 2001 Ford F150 pickup. The F150 specific wiring harness made it truly plug and play. I have installed dozens of car stereos, gps systems, xmradios for myself, family and friends and this was a piece of cake. Definitely get the specific wiring harness for your car. The CK3100 works great just as the other reviews have claimed. Both my wife and I share it and it easily switches between cell phones. I'm buying another one for my Honda Civic Hybrid!

This kit works
great. The unit
functions perfectly
with my Saturn
factory radio. User
manual was a bit
vague on wiring and
mute inputs, a bit
of trial & error is
necessary. When you
get this unit, also
get the adapter
harness. The time
you will save is
worth the cost of
the harness. For
GM's it is truly
plug and play. All
of the features work
as described. It
took me 45 minutes
start to finish and
30 of that was
disassemble and
reassembly, the rest
deciding how to
route the wires.
Sync'd up with my
Blackberry
automatically ( and
correctly ) on the

quality is very
good. If you are
considering a

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I needed to get a bluetooth kit since California is going handsfree this
summer, and decided to buy this one, and found it to be exactly what I
needed. I would suggest, however, that if an adapter/ jumper harness is
available, buy it. Then the installation is really a plug and play. My wife
even remarked she liked how easy it is to understand and use. I'm using
a Motorola Razr and my wife has a Blackberry and both connected and
work perfectly.

Works great!

Written By John, San Diego, CA on Thursday, March 13, 2008
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Easy DIY install with third-party harness adapter. I put this in my wife's
2006 Honda Odyssey EX-L with navigation system. Why Honda didn't start
offering bluetooth until 2008 is beyond me! Even then, Honda's solution
does not interface with the stereo system (to mute it and play calls
through it) they way that this Parrot does. Yet it costs much, much more.
This Parrot works great. It automatically synch's with my Blackberry 8830
with no problem. My wife's older Motorola phone synch's with the press of
a button.

Great service/performance

Written By Steve, Elmhurst, IL on Thursday, February 07, 2008
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The parrot went in quickly and easily, thanks to photos emailed to me by tech support, and some verbal direction at getting to the radio. It was far easier than I imagined to install. The unit works well, silencing the radio as a call comes in or as a call is made, and then returning the radio when the call is finished. The voice is clearly picked up and heard by callers on the parrot mic and the incoming sound is clear and loud over the car speakers. The only hitch for us was that our cell phone did not have phonebook "push" or "upload," so the phonebook listing was unable to be uploaded to the parrot. Check your cell phone for this required feature. But it's also not too much of a hassle to dial from the phone itself. Even so, the parrot takes over these dialed calls and works wonderfully. Safe, legal in Cook County, hands-free driving with a cell.

I have always been a gadget person. This unit went out of the scope of doing what the system says it can do. Instalation is simple with harness for my 2008 toyota. Crutchfield is fast shipping, tech support 5 star. For anyone wanting a total wirless in car that ACTUALLY works, BUY THIS UNIT. Voice is same as though you were on a landlin. Thanks Crutchfield!!!!

Awesome Product!

Written By brad, Daleville, AL on Monday, January 07, 2008

I want to start off by saying that this product is well worth every penny. Pairing the device with my phone was flawless and it works perfectly! The only complaint I have is the lack of installation details for an aftermarket stereo. Crutchfield has specific adapters for most factory stereos that allow for plug and play, but there is no adapter for an aftermarket stereo. The wiring diagram is pretty vague as well and it took me a while to figure it out. I have an Alpine CDA-9853 in my 2003 Nissan Maxima and I had to cut the ISO connectors off the Parrot's mute cable and wire it inline with my head unit. I had a factory adapter previously installed, so I just cut the wires on the adapter instead of cutting the factory wires. After that just connect the yellow mute wire to the interrupt wire on the head unit. I used T-taps to tap into the power wires and ground of my head unit to supply power to the Parrot. This worked like a charm.

In summary, it can be difficult to install, but once installed it works great! Even my battery life, signal strength, and phone model is displayed on the LCD screen! I'm using a Sanyo SCP-7050 from Sprint.

Easy install, good unit

Written By Tom, Gaithersburg MD on Monday, October 15, 2007

Easy installation in my 2007 Sprinter. My new van didn't come with a telephone interface, and retrofitting for phone support with factory parts would have totaled more than $1700!

My van is made in Germany, and the wiring harness uses "ISO" connectors. The Parrot unit has ISO connectors, too, so installation was almost "plug and play" The single wire I had to splice was the switched power lead. The unit does a good job of connecting to my blackberry and my wife's phone, too. Her phone has better Bluetooth features than mine, so her phone directory synced easily.

When a call comes in, my stereo mutes, and the caller's voice comes across the factory stereo speakers. The caller ID info is displayed, and if the number is in your directory, it shows the name of the person too. Pretty cool!

The instructions are sparse, and while the wires are individually labeled, sometimes it's not clear if wires are needed (there are 3 - count them - 3 mute wires!) the directions could be more clear about how to hook up the wires. The wiring harness with the unit has lots of options - you certainly won't use all of them, but they have accounted for lots of different options. They didn't deal well with what the "normal" behavior is when the unit powers up, and had little to say about how to use the device.

Fortunately, the unit is so easy to use that it's not a big deal to figure things out. so far I'm pretty happy with the results. I have not played with voice dialing and other options, and the manual is pretty quiet about that as well, so it may be a little trial-and-error to get that figured out.

If you've got a Sprinter, check the write ups section of sprinter-source dot com for a play-by-play of running the wires and photos of the installation.

Parrot CK3100

Written By Jody, Marrero, Louisiana on Monday, April 30, 2007
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Overall, the unit works fine. The instructions could focus a little more on the wiring options, and I was a bit disappointed that I didn't know that I'd need the wiring harness to fit my vehicle with my original purchase. The unit would probably work ideally with a head unit and no auxilliary amp. If you have an external amp driving your speakers, you may run into difficulties and the wiring instructions aren't very clear about that. With my unit (JVC DV-6200) I have to switch to an auxilliary line input in order to hear the incoming call, so it doesn't automatically mute the radio sound. It's a bit of a pain, but it works nonetheless. I also had to solder pre-amp leads to the line inputs of the hands-free in order to connect to the auxilliary line input of my head unit. Again, the instructions aren't very clear about that. Bottom line, if you have an auxilliary amp driving your speakers, you'll probably need a head unit with auxilliary line inputs in order to connect the device. Once connected, it works fine.

This is a very good bluetooth system for the car. It only took me about 30 min to install in my 2004 Ford F 150 using the bluetooth harness. This is a wonderful product it mutes the radio when a call comes in, and the calls are clear, when on the phone and you get into your car it auto connects.

FAR exceeded my expectations

Written By Michael, Dracut, MA on Monday, January 15, 2007
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

So I just complete my installation of the Parrot 3100 in my wifes 04 Honda Pilot EX-L. So heres how it went.

- Ordered from Crutchfield the 3100 and the wiring harness for the 04 Pilot
- I pulled out the head unit (removing the trim was the hardest part)
- quickly hooked up the wire harness and the parrot to test. Seem to work fine.
- Installed the microphone above the rearview mirror (attached to the top of the mirror itself)
- Ran the mic wire above the header and down the door molding. I continued to run the wire behind the glove box.
- I ran the two 3100 wire harnesses from behind the stereo to behind the glove box.
- I attached the "blue brain unit" to the large round metal cross member that is on the right side behind the glove box. I used zip-ties to attach the "brain" - these worked great.
- I tidied up all the wires using small zip-ties. It looks very stock behind the glove box (there is nothing within sight except the control unit.).
- I "modified" the control units wire mounting bracket and installed the display unit above the stereo - running both the control units wire and the mounting bracket wire between the top center of the stereo trim and the dash.
- The end result is a very usable and professional looking install.

Now the cool part. The Parrot 3100 is fully compatible with our cell phones. My wife and I have LG 8300 phones. These phones automatically and fully sync with the Parrot. The address books show up, calls made, calls received, and missed calls are all accessible. You can even access voice mail. The best part is the Parrot uses the 8300s voice command ability.

In Saab Heaven

Written By Burnett, Pittstown, NJ on Tuesday, December 26, 2006
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought the CK3100 for my wife's 2001 Saab 9-3 convertible & a Verizon bluetooth phone. Crutchfield had no compatibility information for the car, and Verizon is infamous for disabling features on their phones. Needless to say, I was a little skeptical whether the Parrot CK3100 would work.

No need to worry. The CK3100 was very easy to install using the included wiring harnesses, which have ISO connectors that plug into the Saab radio. I used both the power harness and the speaker harness. This setup allows phone calls as well as driving commands from Verizon VZ Navigator to play through the stereo. The phone also transferred her telephone contacts to the CK3100. My wife can dial any contact without removing the phone from her purse. Very neat!

When the phone is in use, my setup causes the CK3100 to override the audio, even if it is the OnStar audio. You can preserve the OnStar audio by installing without the speaker harness and running the mute and tel. output directly to the radio. (For mute, yellow mute wire plugs into blue mute2 wire on the harnesses. The user manual is not very clear on this.) You do lose some voice prompts from the phone with this setup.

With better written documentation and better OnStar compatibility, the CK3100 would be a perfect product.
