Our take on the Parrot MINIKIT

Parrot's MINIKIT hands-free car kit lets you take full advantage of your Bluetooth phone in your car. Talk on the phone while driving and enjoy quality sound for conversation — while keeping your eyes on the road. You can also use the MINIKIT for talking on the phone at home while doing tasks which require both hands, such as preparing meals or using the computer.

You can take the MINIKIT portable speakerphone with you in any vehicle. Clip it to your car's visor and use the 3-button keypad to dial, hang up, or change the volume coming through the MINIKIT's 2-watt powered speaker.

The Parrot MINIKIT connects with your Bluetooth mobile phone automatically — it uses its own built-in voice-recognition software instead of your phone's, so you don't have to touch your phone while driving. The MINIKIT can pair with up to five compatible phones simultaneously.

Noise-reducing technology allows you to hear your callers clearly, and have a conversation in your car without raising your voice. An omnidirectional microphone ensures every word will get transmitted, and you can use your phone up to 33 feet away from the MINIKIT. Just say a name and the MINIKIT will dial the number — with select phones, you can store up to 150 different names from your address book.

The compact MINIKIT fits in your pocket or bag, and it works with most Bluetooth mobile phones. Charge it up with the included car charger, and you'll get up to 10 hours of talk time, plus over a week of standby power.

Note: Compatibility of this device may vary, depending on your phone and service provider.

Good product for price

Written By Andy, Cromwell, Ct on Sunday, January 17, 2010

Got the minkit for my wife for x-mas. Very easy to set up. Very easy to use. Directions leave a lot to be desired but for basic functions it's pretty easy to figure out. It's only got 3 buttons...answer, hang up and, menu so it's not rocket science. Pairing with our phones was simple. Sound quality is pretty darn good considering it's size. We both love it and it sure beats the cost of hard wiring bluetooth through your car radio. I would definitely recommend to friends and family.

Not impressed with this product, returned to Crutchfield

Written By Ryan, Bellevue, WA on Saturday, December 27, 2008

I found this product to be difficult to use, in that it continued to connect then drop the Bluetooth connection between the unit and my cell phone. I don't know if that's the fault of the parrot or my phone. When I did get it to pair with my phone, the speaker quality made listening to calls very difficult. In order to hear the conversation while driving, I had to turn the volume all the way up. This caused the speaker to distort at certain points, and it was still difficult to hear when it didn't distort. The caller
on the other end also complained of an echo from their end of the conversation. Completely useless while driving, and since that's the whole reason for buying it, it definitely is a bad product in my opinion.

I would have expected this unit to perform much better than it did. The technology of a speaker & microphone isn't that complex, and it seems that the speaker used was very cheap and had difficulty correctly reproducing the conversation.

I'm returning it to Crutchfield (thank you for the excellent return policy!) and I don't know if I'll try a different brand or not.

Great Deivce

Written By Mike L, Arlington VA on Wednesday, October 15, 2008

This device is great. I have used many in-ear hands free devices and this
device beats those. Volume is great (keep the windows up) and the noise
cancelation works well. I have had several people tell me that they didn't
even know I was on my cell phone untill I told them so the mic works great.
If you phone already has a voice dial feature, this device taps into that and
uses it. If your phone does not have voice dial, you can program this device
to do it for you. If you can, mount it on your dash, I tend to use the visor a
lot and have to reposition it everytime I reposition the visor in order to get
the optimal performance out of the mic

Worry Free-Hands Free

Written By Paul, Nazareth, PA on Friday, April 04, 2008

At first I was apprehensive about a product named MiniKit, but that has
completely changed. I first checked with Parrot on-line for compatibility
with my Verizon phone, then Crutchfield had it to me in two days. Set up
was easy and now I can drive and concentrate on the road, not on holding
the phone. With the new laws going in effect all around, this is an
inexpensive and portable way to stay safe. I use it in my vehicle and then
just take it along in my work vehicle, no wires, no suction cups or velco.
Just slide it on the sunvisor and done. The sound quality is good according
to people I've called and the battery life is great, not that this would be a
problem, both car and home chargers are included. A great tool for the
safety minded driver.

Great product

Written By Ron, Lincoln, NE on Friday, February 29, 2008

I spend a lot of time in my car commuting to work and back, and so far am very pleased with this device. Calls hit the device at virtually the same time they hit my cell phone. Calls are clear, the volume plentiful. I am not able to use the voice dialing feature, and I would advise you to check Parrot's website to see if your phone is compatible with that feature. This is not a Parrot issue, but an issue with my phone.

Parrot MINIKIT

Written By Jim, Indianapolis,IN on Monday, February 25, 2008

I was a little apprehensive ordering the MIni-Kit, but now I'm glad I did. I had a little trouble setting up English for a language. I called Parrot support, they are great people, got me straightened out right away. Works better than I expected.

Great Device

Written By Deborah, Katy, TX on Saturday, January 26, 2008

I purchased the Parrot Minikit for my husband to use while driving in his truck. He has an iPhone and loves talking even while driving. I read a lot of reviews and decided to try the Parrot even though I had not seen one in operation. The device paired beautifully with my SE phone but took a few updates to get it to work with the iPhone. It works great now. The sound quality is fantastic and my husband is very pleased. The battery life is excellent too. I'm happy that he is now a safer driver!

I have had the Parrot Minikit for a few days and it does work well. It is handy to take from car-to-car, such as when renting a car or changing from one family car to another.

This unit has a rechargeable battery built-in and comes with both the AC and DC chargers. The voice recognition works very well but has the somewhat annoying habit of repeating the name of the called party once it has dialed and then also the name of a couple other names in the directory afterwards. It doesn't affect the performance but it is annoying. The buttons feel cheap. The instructions are a bit confusing but I got through it.

The sound is good, it looks good and I can recommend the product. I think the unit is a little over-priced and should cost about $50.00 I paid $80 + S&H.
