If you have an eye toward making photography a big part of your life — and possibly being compensated for your work — this Sigma Photo 70-200mm f/2.8 telephoto zoom lens is one you're going to have to consider carefully early on. Talk about checking all the "I want" boxes — this lens features all the bells and whistles: a constant f/2.8 maximum aperture, Hyper-Sonic Motor, optical stabilization, EX-designated build quality, and compatibility with both full-frame and APS-C cameras. If your shooting situation places you at any distance from your subject, this is a lens that has the responsiveness and versatility to make you look like you're everywhere at once.

The f/2.8 aperture being available throughout the zoom range means this lens provides excellent performance in low-light situations, regardless of your focal length. Optical stabilization makes it possible to take sharp pictures, hand-held, with slower shutter speeds. HSM means your autofocus motor will perform silently and quickly, and of course EX build quality means you'll rely on this lens over and over again for years to come. Let's face it, if you were facing a situation where professional results were required, or even if you just expect them from yourself, wouldn't you want a lens with these characteristics in your gig bag? No wonder this lens is a favorite of working journalists, event photographers, and wedding pros worldwide.

Features

Overview: The Sigma APO 70-200mm F2.8 EX DG OS (Model #589) is a high quality telephoto zoom lens. Typical uses include travel, weddings & events, portraits, nature & wildlife, and sports & action photography. The lens has the Nikon bayonet-mount, and comes with a tripod collar, lens hood, and front and rear caps.

Sigma DG Lenses: This Sigma DG lens is designed for use with full-frame digital SLRs, but can be used with DSLRs with APC-C-sized image sensors. DG lenses offer high contrast and subtle tonal gradations, but is resistant to flare and ghosting. The lens' Super Multi-Layer Coating suppresses reflections between the image sensor and the lens surfaces.

Optics: The lens features two FLD glass elements, which have the performance equal to fluorite glass, and three SLD glass elements. Both types of glass elements provide excellent correction of color aberrations.

Lens Hood: The lens includes a bayonet-type detachable lens hood to help prevent stray light from entering the lens, causing flare, and to protect the lens from rain, snow, and dust. When not in use, the lens hood can be inverted and mounted onto the lens backwards for storage. The lens hood adds approximately 4" to the overall length when mounted. When using the lens hood with cameras with APS-C sensors, it is recommended that you add the lens hood adapter for more effective shading.

Optical Stabilizer (OS): The built-in Optical Stabilizer allows for handheld photography, even in low light scenarios, and compensates for image blurring caused by camera shake. There are 2 OS modes: Mode 1 compensates for overall camera shake, while Mode 2 detects vertical shake that occurs when panning the camera horizontally.

Teleconverters: The lens can be used with Sigma's 1.4x EX DG or 2.0 EX DG APO teleconverters. This converts the 70-200mm lens to a 98-280mm F4 or 140-400mm F5.6 lens, respectively.

Tripod Collar: Because of the weight of the lens, a tripod collar is included which lets you mount the lens onto a tripod. This provides better balance and stability when shooting for long periods of time. You can rotate the lens inside the tripod ring to allow you to shoot images in portrait orientation with the lens attached to the tripod.

Focus Mode Switch: The lens features a two-way switch for setting the focus mode: AF (auto focus) or M (manual focus).

HSM: The lens has a hyper-sonic motor (HSM) that provides a quiet, high-speed auto focusing mechanism.
