Top-notch telephoto performance

Sigma's 150-600mm Sports lens brings your subjects up close for dramatic telephoto images. Its amazing versatility allows you to capture everything from nearby critters in the backyard or groups of athletes on the sidelines, to the minute details of a distant pelican in flight or a Formula One car screaming down the straightaway. And it boasts an impressive 225mm to 900mm zoom range when mounted to a Nikon DX sensor camera for even greater distance-erasing power. Thanks to its rugged dust- and splash-proof construction, plus an oil- and water-repellent coating on the front and rear lens elements, you can count on crisp, high-contrast photographs in even the most demanding shooting environments.

Features you can really use

Photo enthusiasts will appreciate the features this zoom lens offers. Its advanced optical image stabilizer uses an accelerometer that provides improved horizontal and vertical panning, letting you bring home sharper action shots of fast moving subjects. The Hypersonic Motor allows fast and silent autofocus, and features a manual override switch that gives you the option to instantly change from auto to manual focus with a simple twist of the focus ring. A new zoom lock switch lets you lock the lens at any focal length to prevent  unwanted barrel extension. The included tripod mount keeps your cam and lens combo securely attached to a tripod for stability. And the supplied lens hood allows better shooting in bright light.

Features

Overview: The Sigma 150-600mm F5-6.3 DG OS HSM (Model #720) is a large, high quality telephoto zoom lens. Typical uses include travel, nature & wildlife, and sports & action photography. The lens has the Nikon bayonet-mount, and comes with a tripod collar, lens hood, a soft front lens cap, rear lens cap, and a padded storage case. On Nikon AF cameras, the lens functions the same way as a G-type auto-focus Nikon lens (without an aperture ring). Some functions may be restricted.

Sigma DG Lenses: This Sigma DG lens is designed for use with full-frame digital SLRs, but can be used with DSLRs with APC-C-sized image sensors. DG lenses offer high contrast and subtle tonal gradations, but is resistant to flare and ghosting. The lens' Super Multi-Layer Coating suppresses reflections between the image sensor and the lens surfaces.

Optics: The lens features two FLD glass elements, which have the performance equal to fluorite glass, and three SLD glass elements. Both types of glass elements provide excellent correction of color aberrations.

Lens Hood: The lens includes a large, clamp-on lens hood to help prevent stray light from entering the lens, causing flare, and to protect the lens from rain, snow, and dust. When not in use, the lens hood can be inverted and mounted onto the lens backwards for storage. The lens hood adds approximately 4" to the overall length when mounted.

Optical Stabilizer (OS): The built-in Optical Stabilizer allows for handheld photography, even in low light scenarios, and compensates for image blurring caused by camera shake. There are 2 OS modes: Mode 1 compensates for overall camera shake and is recommended for general photography. Mode 2 activates the built-in accelerator to detecting whether the camera is positioned vertically or horizontally to minimize blur.

Zoom Lock Switch : Because of the length and weight of the lens, shooting may become unstable when the lens is pointed upward or downward. After you have adjusted to the desired focal length, you can set the zoom lock switch to the Lock position to prevent accidental zooming. When the lock is set at the wide-angled end (150mm), the zoom is completely locked, and must be manually unlocked. This is helpful to prevent the lens from extending while carrying the camera with the lens pointed downward. At other focal lengths, the lock is released automatically when the zoom ring is rotated, or if there is certain contact from the front of the lens.

Tripod Collar: Because of the weight of the lens, a tripod collar is included which lets you mount the lens onto a tripod. This provides better balance and stability when shooting for long periods of time. You can rotate the lens inside the tripod ring to allow you to shoot images in portrait orientation with the lens attached to the tripod.

Focus Limiter Switch: The long focal length range of the lens can sometimes prevent you from obtaining a sharp auto focus quickly. By limiting the AF range, the lens will focus on your subject faster because the focusing elements don't have as far to travel. A 3-way Focus Limiter Switch on the lens barrel lets you set the focal range to the following:

  • Full (2.6m to infinity): Allows the full focal length range of 2.6 meters (8.53 feet) to infinity
  • 10m to infinity: For focusing on subjects at longer distances, from 10 meters (32.8 feet) to infinity
  • 2.6m to 10m: For focusing on subjects at closer distances, from 2.6 meters (8.53 feet) to 10 meters (32.8 feet)

Focus Mode Switch: The lens features a three-way switch for setting the focus mode: AF (auto focus), MO (manual override) or MF (manual focus). Manual Override allows you to rotate the focus ring while auto focusing is in operation.

HSM: The lens has a hyper-sonic motor (HSM) that provides a quiet, high-speed auto focusing mechanism.

USB Dock Compatibility: Specially developed software, Sigma Optimization Pro, lets you update the lens firmware and adjust parameters such as focus. These updates are performed when the lens is attached to an optional USB Dock, sold separately by Sigma.

Custom Switch: When special parameters have been downloaded and saved using the optional USB Dock, you can access them using the Custom Switch on the lens. The new settings can be stored in either of two Custom Modes: C1 or C2. The Custom Switch on the lens barrel allows you to switch between saved Custom Modes and normal operation.
