A built-in "wide panel" allows you to illuminate focal lengths as wide as 17mm. Let your camera do the work — or go "manual"

The EF-610 Super Flash is designed to work in concert with your camera's exposure system, so that you can achieve the perfect exposure for your subject without having to fuss with settings. But of course it offers way more control than that. Manual settings allow you to adjust the flash power by up to eight stops — from full power to 1/128 power. FP (high-speed) flash mode allows you to use fast shutter speeds without synchronization issues. Rear-curtain synchro flash lets you represent motion blur in a natural way, with blurs trailing the flash-illuminated subject.

Designed for the thinking photographer

Use the EF-610 as a master or slave unit in a multi-flash setup, without wires. Or just operate it wirelessly away from the camera body, while still using the wireless TTL information from your compatible camera. And check out these thoughtful features: there's a "catch light," which introduces a sparkle in the pupils of your subject while using the flash head in bounce mode. A modeling flash function lets you check for unwanted reflections or shadows before you commit to the shot. And an auto-off function shuts down the unit after it remains idle for a designated time, helping conserve your battery power.

Features

Overview: The Sigma EF-610 DG Super is a powerful flash with lots of features that you don't get with the camera's built-in flash. It is designed to work with the latest TTL auto-exposure systems of all the most popular digital and film SLR cameras. The head can tilt up and swivel in both directions, so you can bounce the flash in any direction. The flash is compatible with Canon DSLR and E-TTL-compatible PowerShot cameras.

Shoe Mount: The Sigma EF-610 DG Super flash mounts to the hot shoe on the top of your compatible Canon camera. Flash trigger, exposure setting, and focal length (zoom) setting are transferred to the flash via the hot shoe.

Flash Stand: The flash comes with a stand for placing the unit in the desired position during slave flash, or for storing when not in use. The stand has a threaded screw hole for placing on a tripod.

Variable Angle: The firing direction of the flash is adjustable. The vertical angle ranges from 0° (straight forward) to 90° (straight up) with stops at 60° and 75°. You can also tilt the head downward to 7° for close-up photography. The horizontal angle is 90° to the right (stops at 60° and 75°) and 180° to the left (stops at 60°, 75°, 90°, 120°, and 150°) for a total range of 270°.

Zoom Function: Generally, in the ETTL mode, the flash will automatically set the zoom position according to the focal length of the lens. Each time you press the Zoom button, the LCD panel display will change and indicate the zoom position in sequence: 24mm, 28mm, 35mm, 50mm, 70mm, 85mm, 105mm, Auto. When the built-in wide panel on the flash is engaged, the coverage will cover the angle of ultra wide-angle lenses as short as 17 mm.

Wireless Flash: The Sigma EF-610 DG Super flash can be used in the Wireless Flash mode, either as a master or slave flash unit. This allows you to obtain the desired lighting effects even if the flash is located away from the camera.

Modeling Flash: The Modeling Flash function lets you check for intense reflections and shadows before taking the photograph. This is only available for cameras that have the Modeling Flash function.

Catch Light Panel: The flash is equipped with a built-in catch light panel, which can create a sparkle in the eyes of the subject when the bounce flash mode is activated. The catch light panel is a white plastic panel that extends over the flash head. A catch light is most effective when the flash head is tilted upward at 90 degrees and pictures are taken at a close distance.

Manual Flash: You can set the flash output to Manual H or Manual L allowing you to set the flash power from full to 1/128 in 1-step increments.

Rear-curtain Synchro: When photographing a moving subject, the Rear-curtain Synchro mode allows the flash to be triggered immediately before the rear-curtain of the shutter closes. Unlike front-curtain synchro, this mode records blurred trails behind a moving subject, rather than in front, for a more natural expression of motion.

AF Auxiliary Light: The EF-610 DG Super features an AF Auxiliary Light to assist the camera's AutoFocus in low-light conditions.

Continuous Shooting Limitations: To prevent the flash from overheating, you should discontinue using the flash for at least 10 minutes after continuously firing the flash for the number of exposures below:

  • TTL, M (1/1, 1/2): 20 continuous flash shots
  • M (1/4, 1/8): 25 continuous flash shots
  • M (1/16-1/32): 40 continuous flash shots
  • Multi: 10 cycles

Batteries: The Sigma EF-610 DG Super flash uses 4 AA batteries. Alkaline, Nickel-Cadmium (NiCd) rechargeable, or Nickel Metal Hydride (Ni-MH) rechargeable batteries are recommended. Recycling time is approximately 7 seconds with alkaline batteries, and approximately 5 seconds with NiCd or Ni-MH batteries. The number of flashes are approximately 120 with alkaline, and approximately 160 with NiCd or Ni-MH.

Auto Power Off: To save battery power, the power will turn off automatically after about 90 seconds of idle use.

Case: The included case houses and protects the Sigma EF-610 DG Super flash. There is also a small pocket inside the case, where you can store the included flash stand. The case has a flap with a hook-and-loop closure.
