Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This system is a great concept and very simple to install. I wired the monitors to the fuse box running the wires through my center console. I installed this system in my '02 Corolla to keep my 6yr old entertained for our pending 3 day road trip. The DVD player in the unit, however it horrible! I called ESS and it took them almost a week to call me back after leaving several voice mail messages. The DVD player had already scratched some nice big circles into several DVDs when I realized that the ribbon cable that the lens assembly rides on protruded greatly from it's housing causing it to scratch the disc or not play the disc at all when the DVD door is fully closed. When ESS finally returned my call, they stated that they were aware of this defect. I hope that the new production of this product has corrected this. Thankfully there is an SD Card and USB option to play movies. It's also a safer option while traveling since you don't have to change the disc.

Pros: Large monitors with decent sound without the use of headphones. SD card and USB ports are also a great feature.

Cons: DVD player in this unit sucks!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Bought these for my cross country trip and glad that I did. For the price, you probably can not do better, the 7 inch screen size is bigger than it seems on paper. I had my doubts. If you can splice a wire, you can install it yourself. Spliced it into the wire harness for the radio, no need to go to the batteries like in the instructions. Mine went into an 08 highlander, the seat covers actually removed easily. They work great several ways. They receive an input signal, my dnx9990hd dvd player can play on them, the dvd works good but the 32 gb SD card works the best. holds about 20 movies , no skipping, plays .avi formatted movies. The monitors sink together, they can be separated, but only one has the sd, usb (haven't tried) inputs. The other has a rca video input. They are leather, match my grey interior, although I have cloth seats they still look good. I tore the whole center console out to do it right, might not be necessary in some cars. The cheap alpine wireless headphones work great with no extra work. The display is clean and sharp. The tilt is very handy, as the seats recline at different positions. IGNORE the stars, I have no idea what they mean. Probably not the greatest on the market, again I bought them for the kids, but great at this price range for a brand no one has heard of and not a complete POC. I had my doubts, but glad I jumped off the cliff.

Pros: SD = no skipping DVD, no movie swapping at high speeds, supports at least a 32 GB (FAT 32) card Good picture quality Looks good in the car The tilt is a must for the different seat angles Looks like you can hook up a hard drive, imagine the possibilities Works better than screaming at the kids on long drives Can still use my in dash player to navigate, music, telephone, watch a movie while driving Posts look to fit most cars, adjustable Could play separate sources

Cons: The sound through the speakers, really, really, sucks. Way to low, not acceptable on any level. Works great with the headphones or through the car stereo. The instruction booklet is terrible and wrong. I called the company, they sent me to a lab tech, who had no idea about the capabilities or what type of files it can play. The remote must directly point at the screen to work, means your kids might need to use it. The headrest part is further back then the OEM part Nothing else major
