Features

Overview: The FRD04-AUX converts the Rear Seat Entertainment port of specified OEM Ford/Lincoln/Mercury "CAN-BUS" radios to RCA level audio inputs. This adapter features a built-in audio level adjustment circuitry (from 0 to +20 dB/0.475-4.75V) which allows you to match the audio levels of the auxiliary input to other sources on your factory receiver. Note: This adapter is not compatible with vehicles that are equipped with the OEM Rear Seat Entertainment system, navigation, or factory satellite radio.

Compatibility: This adapter is compatible with some, but not all, of the radio models found in the following vehicles:

  • 2004-2005 Ford F-150 Pickup
  • 2005 Ford F-250 Pickup
  • 2005 Ford F-350 Pickup
  • 2005 Ford F-550 Pickup
  • 2005 Ford Focus Sedan
  • 2005 Ford Freestyle
  • 2005 Ford Five Hundred
  • 2005 Ford Mustang
  • 2006 Lincoln Mark LT
  • 2005 Mercury Montego

Note: Please check "Outfit My Car" to verify compatibility.

Connections: The adapter has a 14.5" cable to interface between the factory radio and the adapter; a 16-pin Molex harness plugs into the factory radio and a corresponding harness connects to the OEM cable removed from the radio; the other end has a 10-pin Molex which plugs into the adapter.

AWESOME

Written By Mike, Mountain Home, ID on Sunday, January 28, 2007

Super easy to install. just splice 1 wire into your 12v power and 1 wire to ground. plug it into your radio, hook up an RCA cable and satellite radio/ipod/mp3 player. power up and press the aux button on your radio. recognized it on mine. Shows up PIE. sound quality of sirius is 100 times better than using FM transmitter. Super Clear. worth every penny

Installed in my 2005 Mustang and love being able to connect my iPod to it. Installation is rather easy, except when having to reconnect all the harnesses when reassembling and "packing" all the cables in the dash.

Great product! Very highly recommended!! Installation is very simple. I tapped the 12V and ground off of the cigarrette lighter in the dash. To install this in my F-150 it took me about 45 minutes including dis assembling the dash and reassembly. THe sound quality is night and day over that crappy FM modulator I was using with my sirius unit!!

Cables could have been longer, but I aint complaining!!

After trying to use a FM transmitter on both an ipod and Zune (with horrible results), I purchased the PIE FRD04-AUX unit and had it installed in my 2005 Freestyle by a local installer. This unit works as advertised... FANTASTIC. Virtually no ignition noise, and works great with either my daughter's ipod or my Zune. I used a 6' RCA cable/ adapter, and had it fed to the center console which houses a 12V plug. My system still looks 100% stock, and allows me to hide the player out of sight. I would recommend this for anyone wishing to retain their stock head unit in the Freestyle.

I am pleased with the performance of this item in my 2004 Ford F-150 with the factory 5 disk in-dash head unit (without factory subwoofer). Although the instructions said to remove the trim and the radio from the dash, I was able to swing the glove box all the way down, and then reach up behind the radio through there. I could feel the empty connection on the back of the radio. It was easy to plug the connector into it. I also tapped into the cigarette lighter easily through the glove box opening. I then mounted the PIE unit on the metal support behind the glove box. It has easy access in the event I need to get to it...I just have to swing the glove box down. Once installed, it worked just as advertised. I have no static or interferance of any sort. I installed the RCA jack lead into the PIE unit and ran it down under the carpet and up through the bottom of the inside of the console. I then ran it out of the very front of the console where there is a small storage area (had to drill a small hole for the cable to come out...but it's in the front of the console and cannot be seen). Now, I can put my ipod in my console cupholder when I'm listening to it...and then stow it in the front console storage area when I'm not...no need to disconnect it, and no visible wires. And it's also out of sight to prevent a would-be thief from seeing it.

I installed this adapter in my 2005 F150 FX4 pickup in about 10 minutes. This was one of the easiest installs I have ever done. The way the interface works with the radio is awesome. The output level adjustment is perfect for this device and works flawlessly to make my Sirius Sportster play at the same level as the cd player.

'04 Ford F150 Super Crew ... I was a little worried as i have a six disc factory changer ... but the install was really simple, no complaints, easy mounting, hooked up well and works great. Grounded it to the frame, and power went to the cigarette lighter. Switch to Aux ... i only get some feed back when i have my iPod plugged into the cigarette lighter charging when i'm listening ... so i just charge it when i'm not listening ... works for me for the price!

Excellent product!! The installation was easy and clean. I was able to zip tie the box to a bracket under the dash, where access to the plugs is easy. For the ground, I used an OEM grounding point and tapped the power from a spare space in the fuse block. Sound from my Sirius Sportster is now CD quality, way better than through the FM transmitter. The only negative I can say is that the harness they provide for connection from the control box to the stereo could benifit by being slightly longer.

Fantastic Addition for a 2005 Mustang

I've been waiting for a way to listen to my iPod in the car. After trying several FM Transmitter options, all dismal failures, and almost giving up, I found the PIE adapter.

Installation was almost a breeze, Crutchfield instructions were very good. Getting the center console off and over the parking brake was the worst of it. The PIE instructions advise that the factory installed CD player won't work after installation...at least for the Mustang that was wrong. My CD player and changer work as before, pressing the AUX button on the radio brings just brings the adapter into play. Sound is absolutely great.

The 12v constant power supply issue mentioned in other reviews wasn't a problem. I wired the power and ground leads to the power outlet in the console, running all of the wires into the console, including audio input from ipod (Ford has a handy "hatch" inside the console which is where I ran this cable).

I used velcro to secure the adapter inside the radio/controls stack.

I absolutely recommend this option. I keep my iPod in the center console, out of site.

This is worth getting.

Got the product and the Crutchfield instructions. Everything as ordered...

The product: Great. Works exactly as advertized. Sounds great. The AUX button on the Ford factory stereo is now enabled (and shows "PIE" when selected). This is such an improvment from the old FM based input I was using to listen to my iPod. No comparison. I highly recommend it.

The instructions. Poor. Far too generic and really not model specific enough. Removing the dash on the 2005 F250, whilst not difficult, is not exactly trivial. There's a whole bunch of connectors to remove, some are easier than others. None of this is detailed. There's also the fact that the PIE adapter requires 12v "always on" (or at least, on when your stereo's on) power. There was NO info in the install guide as to where I could tap into a 12v supply - or even that it was required. Fortunately, it didn't take me long to figure out that I could tap into the accessory adapter on the right of the dash. The wires were just long enough. There's also the issue of where to "hide" the PIE adapter. If you have the Lariat trim with the ACC (the digital climate control), then there's no room directly underr the stereo. I found the [power] wires were just long enough so that I could tuck the PIE behind the 4x4 control switch.
