FRD04-POD/S iPod® Adapter by Robert Ferency-Viars Why would I need an iPodĀ® adapter? An iPod adapter allows you to connect your iPod to your car stereo, then access your playlists with your stereo's controls - a great idea for several reasons. One, you can scroll through your song titles on your stereo's larger display, instead of squinting down at your iPod. Two, you can route the adapter cable to your glove compartment or center console, so your iPod stays safely out of sight. Three, the iPod adapter keeps your iPod fully charged, so it's ready to rock when you leave your car. And last of all, some adapters bypass your iPod's internal digital-to-analog converter, using your stereo's superior DAC to turn your files back into music. This adapter from Precision Interface Electronics lets you listen to and control your iPod through select Ford sound systems, by converting the satellite radio input on the factory radio into an iPod dock connector. iPod song text shows up on the stereo's display, and you get full access to your playlists. Warranty: 1 year. Note: You must disconnect any factory satellite radio in order to use this adapter. Please enter your vehicle information or call an Advisor at 1-888-955-6000 to find out if this adapter is compatible with your vehicle. The Fusion has 3 AUX settings: SAT1, SAT2, SAT3. Only SAT2 works with this. I did think I was supposed to get some control over my iPod through the factory radio controls (also on steering wheel) but all I can do is pause a track, and then resume it using the same button. Still, it recharges my iPod during use, lets me control everything from the iPod Touch screen, and sounds great! I recommend it. Also, Crutchfield phone service, supplemental installation instructions, and shipping response were all great. Was this review helpful? Yes | No 5 out of 5 Works great. Written By glenn, Kenosha,Wi on Wednesday, April 15, 2009 This is the item I was loking for. It works great. A little bit of a pain to install but thats not Crutchfield fault. Was this review helpful? Yes | No 4 out of 5 Works as advertised Written By Darren, West Hartford, CT on Sunday, January 04, 2009 This product works pretty well. It was fairly easy to install on my 2007 ford freestyle. The installation instructions that come with the unit are pretty much useless typical electronic manufacturer's instructions. Crutchfield sent an illustrated installation guide that was superb and made the job was easy. The only difficult part is you have to know how to splice into one of your car's power supply and ground wires (I used the cigarette lighter). The sound via my car's stereo is superb. You can use your radio buttons to control your ipod, but this is difficult because the radio display is small and only shows one line. It is far easier to just control your ipod directly via the clickwheel which you can do when on satellite 2 setting. The only real drawback for me is that the included ipod connector is very thick and sturdy and larger in width than the standard ipod connector. Because of this I have to take my ipod out of the protective case it is in to connect it. Overall this is a very good product and I would recommend it 1 out of 1 people found this helpful Was this review helpful? Yes | No 5 out of 5 P.I.E. FRD04-POD/S iPodĀ® Adapter Written By David, Alaska on Wednesday, October 01, 2008 This unit was simple to install, and works exactly as advertised. The sound quality is excellent. The controls from the factory head unit work well. The ability to switch to the ipod controls for faster searching is a great feature. There is no need to create special playlists. I have not had any issues with the unit not working. This unit is outstanding and I highly recommend it. 1 out of 1 people found this helpful Was this review helpful? Yes | No 2 out of 5 P.I.E. FRD04-POD/S iPod® Adapter Written By Mark, new hyde park NY on Tuesday, September 23, 2008 When the adapter works it works well. When my ipod is left attached when parked over an hour or so, I get an error message. When this happens I have to go to a different aux. setting on radio in order for unit to work. Also sometimes unit does not work at all , and needs to be shut off in order to get it to work. Next time I would purchase a different unit from some other manufacturer. Was this review helpful?
