Our take on the Precision Interface Electronics GM12LAN-AUX/S

by Zak Billmeier

Got a portable music player? Then you probably know that a direct connection to your vehicle's radio will give you the best possible sound quality. The Precision Interface Electronics GM12LAN-AUX/S adapter lets you add an auxiliary input to your GM factory stereo, suitable for connecting an add-on satellite radio tuner, portable music player, or other audio source.

This adapter works with 2003-up GM factory stereos that use either the Class II or LAN bus. Warranty: 90 days.

Important Note: You'll need an additional cable to connect this adapter to your radio — please enter your vehicle information and we'll show you the additional cable when you add this item to your Cart. Or call an Advisor at 1-888-955-6000 to find the right cable for your vehicle.

Features

Overview: The PIE (Precision Interface Electronics) GM12LAN-AUX/S auxiliary input adapter is designed to convert the XM Satellite Radio port of the OEM radio (with XM controls) into an auxiliary input. Devices such as Satellite Radios, DVD Players, VCRs, MP3 Players, and Game Systems can be added the the OEM radio without an FM Modulator. DPX Technology maintains full function of the factory On-Star and XM Radio systems when present.

Compatibility: The GM12LAN-AUX/S allows you to add an auxiliary input to the factory radio in select General Motors vehicles. A vehicle specific cable (sold separately) plugs into this adapter, the GM factory wiring, and the factory radio or XM tuner. Please, use the Crutchfield Car Selector to determine if this adapter is compatible with your vehicle.

XM Radio: The factory XM tuner (when present) will work in combination with this auxiliary input adapter.

Mounting: The adapter can be secured to any flat surface.

Connections: The vehicle specific cable (sold separately) plugs into the 24-pin Molex plug on one side of the adapter. The included input cable plugs into the other side of the adapter. The other end of the input cable has left and right female RCA plugs.

Does the job!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The unit works as it is supposed to. I note no issues with the noise that the previous reviewer had. My Ipod sounds great in my Hummer. I only give the unit 4 stars as there was no discussion of the PIE AUX IN using up my XM preset #1, but it does. Also the interface through the radio is a little quirky but with a little user patience, it is fine.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

On my 2007 Buick Terraza it would not interface with the factory stero. Crutchfield was great about it and issued a return goods authorization right away. Crutchfiled was great P.I.E. not so much!

Great idea - failed execution

Written By Scott, Overland Park, KS on Wednesday, April 22, 2009
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Conceptually, this is a great idea. Unit plugs into the XM port or in my case in between Radio and XM unit. Two cable plugs and install is done. Setup, easy as pie.

Only problem is that the unit picks up some sort of interference. There's a cyclical buzz that exists whether the engine is running or not. When the engine is running, there's a tremendous amount of EMF noise that's introduced, and increases with the engine RPM.

I've talked to the PIE reps and their tech people were nice, but couldn't offer a solution.

Crutchfield is great and replaced the unit, with the same result. Not sure what I'll do now. I need my iPod in this truck! 2005 Tahoe LT, Nav, CD, DVD, XM
