Our take on the P.I.E Aux Input Adapter For Volkswagen

Got a portable music player? Then you probably know that a direct connection to your vehicle's radio will give you the best possible sound quality. The Precision Interface Electronics VW02-AUX adapter lets you add an auxiliary input to your 2003-07 Volkswagen factory radio, so you can connect a Dock & Play satellite radio tuner, portable music player, or other audio source.

Just plug the 12-pin connector on the adapter cable into the CD changer port in the back of your factory radio, connect your portable player to the adapter's RCA inputs, and go. This adapter works with double-sized VW factory radios only, and it uses your factory CD changer port so any factory changer will have to be disconnected. Warranty: 90 days.

I installed a pair of these on my two 2002 VW Jetta's - quick and easy installs and they work perfectly. The only improvement I would make would be to make the unit smaller so it would be easier to fit in behind the stock radio. Other than that, perfect!

Nice product!! After searching for anything that would be an alternative to FM modulation I stumbled onto this baby. Instruction sheet was a little lacking, but I figured it out. I did the same as the reviewer below that went with this model to intercept the harness at the back of the radio rather than in the trunk. You simply release the existing remote CD control plug (if so equipped) from the radios harness and insert the P.I.E.cable in its place. Plug it back in to the radio and latch. Very simple. Ground the loose terminal from the harness to one of the screws at the rear of the radio. Not a lot of room behing the radio for the unit so I took the console apart and placed it in the cavity under the radio and ahead of the ashtray. Just enough cable supplied with the P.I.E. unitt to make that mounting location work. I was sent two sets of removal tools contrary to some reviews below, maybe that is the norm now. Had the radio out in about 30 seconds that way. Sound quality is amazing, a nice marriage of the Sirius service and factory Monsoon radio. I am pleased!!!

This product is awesome!!! I installed this product to my 04 Jetta w/o mooson .factory stereo and the sound qaulity blown me away. The only thing that .Crutchfiled could have done better is to provide two sets of the factory radio .removal tool instead of one. The instruction provided by Crutchfield was for .removing speakers and not the stereo but did need instuction anyway because .it's so simple to install. It took me longer than most people would install this .because I actually installed audio port so no cable coming out from my dash .and actually looks like factory auxilary input.

One thing the instructions didn't say is that the CD changer cable may be plugged in to the radio. There was one empty input on the back of the radio and the adapter will not fit in that location. The CD input cable has to be removed and the adapter replaces that cable. I figured it out in short order. Oh yeah, the box could be a little smaller.

Works great, sounds great. Easy to install. My head unit has 4 removal tool slots, but only 2 tools were included. It's tricky to get out with only 2, but definitely possible. If buying this, you may want to request two sets if you have a similar head unit.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I purchased this item when the tape player that I was using as an interface for my XM radio died. The cost to replace the entire radio was not compelling so I wanted a less expensive way to have an auxilliary port for my car. Well, this fit the bill perfectly. It was amazingly simple to hook up and works very well as my new interface. The only way it could have been better would be if the harness cable was another 6 inches longer to help with the positioning. I would recommend this as a good solution for anyone that doesn't want to spend lots of money or doesn't like losing the look of the factory radio.
