Wireless Wonder

The fifth generation iPod touch is truly a versatile device. Whether you're into music, video, photos, messaging, or gaming, the iPod touch has you covered. And you can even talk to it — and have it talk back. Built-in Wi-Fi® lets you connect wirelessly to the Internet, so you can instantly post pictures, keep up with friends, or just find out what the weather's going to be. And the iPod touch has Bluetooth®, so you can connect wirelessly to a compatible home or car audio system to listen to online music services, Internet radio, video soundtracks, or music stored on the player iteself.

Apple iPod touch 32GB 5th generation

All the apps you see on the screen come pre-loaded.

Talk with Siri

With Apple's voice-recognition software, Siri, you can simply have a conversation with your iPod touch to get things done. Ask for sports scores, leave yourself a reminder, or get a restaurant recommendation (then make a reservation). Siri responds, so you can use your iPod touch hands-free — great for in-car use. Dictate messages, update your Facebook status, even tweet using your voice.

Customize it with apps

The iTunes® store offers over 700,000 apps, so you can really customize your device. But with that many choices, it's easy to get overwhelmed. So the iPod touch comes with some pretty handy apps pre-loaded to get you started, including a FaceBook app, weather, voice recorder, email reader, calendar, and more. There's even a Game Center app that lets you play popular games with people all over the world.

Photos and videos

The iPod touch features a 5-megapixel iSight camera packed with features. There's a buit-in LED flash, automatic face-recognition and a simple tap-to-focus button. Touchscreen controls let you take panorama shots easily. Edit your photos right on the iPod touch, then use the Facebook app to share them instantaneously.

Prefer to shoot moving images? The iSight camera shoots high-definition 1080p video. The front-facing camera lets you use FaceTime for video chat with friends on compatible Apple devices.

Play with AirPlay®

The iPod touch uses Apple AirPlay to expand your entertainment options. Want room-filling sound? Stream music from your player wirelessly to an AirPlay-compatible home theater receiver or powered speaker system. And you can also stream from music apps like Pandora® Internet radio and Spotify, too.

While you can only stream to one device at a time directly from your iPod touch, you can stream to multiple systems and components from the iTunes library on your computer. And you can control that library from your iPod touch, so you can select songs and playlists and adjust the volume of each linked component individually right from your iPod touch.

If you have an Apple TV® you can do even more. AirPlay Mirroring reproduces exactly what's on the screen of your iPod touch on your HDTV's large screen, via the Apple TV.  So everyone in the room can enjoy thatvideo, photo slideshow, or even the game you're playing.

New design from top to bottom

This generation of the iPod touch features a generous 4" screen that's taller than those of previous models. The extra-tall screen accommodates a fifth row of app icons, so you can have even more of your favorite apps just a touch away. The multi-touch screen features a fingerprint-resistant coating, to decrease smudging.

The screen uses a Retina display. Simply put, the resolution is so high your eyes will see smooth lines — not individual pixels. And that means text is easier to read, graphics pop, and photos and videos look crystal clear.

Inside the iPod touch, a powerful dual-core A5 chip makes the magic happen. It has twice the processing power and seven times the graphic rendering of the chip used for the fourth generation iPod touch. Videos and gaming action is more fluid, websites load faster and life is good.

Apple EarPods

The EarPod, Apple's redesigned in-ear headphones

Life's litte extras — EarPods and a handy wrist loop

The player comes with completely redesigned in-ear headphones. The Apple EarPods have a contoured shape designed to fit comfortably in your ear.  Thanks to that close fit, you'll hear more of your music and less of the outside world when you wear them.

With the included wrist loop, it's easy to keep the iPod touch close at hand. Pop out the recessed button on the back and slip the loop's buttonhole over it. Your player's now not only ready for action, but safe from an accidental tumble through slippery fingers.

Display Features

Dual-Core A5 Chip: The dual-core A5 chip most powerful iPod touch ever. That's because the dual-core A5 chip provides up to twice the processing power and up to seven times faster graphics than the previous generation. So games are incredibly responsive and realistic. And because the A5 chip is very energy efficient, you get the same great battery life; up to 40 hours of music or 8 hours of video on a single charge.

Stylish Design: The iPod touch (5th gen) has a super-thin (0.275"), lightweight (3.1oz) aluminum body and comes in multiple colors (Black, Blue, Pink, White, or Yellow). The iPod touch (5th gen) is made from a single-piece anodized aluminum, just like Apple's MacBook line-up. It features a super-smooth finish and polished beveled edges for better look and feel. The iPod touch (5th gen) colors are incredibly rich and vibrant because they're bonded right to the aluminum for a saturated color that still lets the luster of the metal shine through.

Retina Multi-Touch Display: The new 4.0" Retina widescreen display (1136 x 640) got taller, but not wider. That means everything you do on the iPod touch (5th gen) can remain a one-handed operation. The display is also more advanced, with finger-friendly Multi-Touch technology built into the glass instead of beneath it. Thanks to the Retina display, everything you see and do on the iPod touch (5th gen) looks amazing. That's because the Retina display's pixel density (326 pixels per inch) is so high your eye is unable to distinguish individual pixels. Which means images in games, movies, and photos are sharper and clearer. Text in books, web pages, and email is crisp at any size. And the new display is a perfect widescreen fit for your HD movies and TV shows because now you can watch them all without letterboxing.

Dual Orientation: You can view the Internet, videos, photos, or album art in either a portrait or landscape orientation. The display automatically changes when you change the orientation of the iPod touch (5th gen). The display can be oriented vertically or horizontally by rotating the iPod touch (5th gen).

Touch-Controls: Unlike previous iPods, the iPod touch (5th gen) does not have the traditional Click-Wheel control. There are only three buttons on the unit: the top-mounted Sleep/Wake button, the side mounted volume control, and the "Home" button just below the screen. All of the other controls involve touch (5th gen) screen commands. You can drag your finger up or down the screen to scroll through lists. Flicking your finger on the screen allows you to scroll quickly. As lists are scrolling you can tap or touch (5th gen) the screen to stop the scrolling. Once the scrolling has stopped, you can tap an item in the list to select it. There is also a "back" button on the screen in the upper left corner showing the name of the previous list. You can tap the button to go back to it. While viewing photos, you can zoom in and out by double-tapping the screen, or using a pinching out or pinching in motion with two fingers.

Accelerometer: The accelerometer inside iPod touch (5th gen) allows it to detect when you rotate the iPod touch (5th gen) from portrait to landscape, then automatically changes the contents of the display. The accelerometer really shines when you play games, because it immerses you in the action. It's perfect for racing games, where your entire iPod touch acts as a steering wheel, and for tap-and-tilt games such as Rolando, in which your movements control the action.

Home Screens: The Home screen is where you will find all your apps and folders. You can have up to 11 Home screens and browse them with a flick of your finger. To launch an app or open a folder, just tap it. And even if you are in the middle of playing a game, you can get to any app easily by pressing the Home button. Press it once to go back to the last Home screen you were on. Press it again to return to your main Home screen. Whenever you download an application from the App Store, a new icon appears on the Home screen.

Customize Home Screens: You can customize the layout of icons on the touch (5th gen) Home Screen including the Dock icons along the bottom of the screen. You can also add links to your favorite web-pages on the unit's Home Screen. You are able to move apps around, group them into a folder, or add them to another Home Screen for quick access to the games and applications you download from the App Store and to your Safari web clips. You can create up to 11 customizable screens to choose from when you use the iPod touch (5th gen). The number of dots at the bottom of the screen show the number of screen you have and indicates which screen you are viewing.

Folders: The Folders feature gives you an easy way to keep your apps organized and de-clutter the Home screens on the iPod touch (5th gen). You can put up to 12 icons in a single folder. The iPod touch (5th gen) automatically names a folder when you create it, based on the icons you use to create the folder, but you can change the name anytime you want. Like icons, folders can be rearranged by dragging them around the Home Screen. You can also move folders to a new Home Screen or to the bottom of the screen next to the Docked icons.

Spotlight Search: The Spotlight Search function allows you to search the entire contents of the iPod touch (5th gen), all from one place. On the main Home Screen, just swipe to the right to bring up the Spotlight feature. Once you start typing, the Spotlight feature begins searching all of your music, videos, contacts, email, calendars, notes, and even your audiobooks and podcasts.

Cut, Copy & Paste: The touchscreen makes it easy to make changes to text you have entered. An onscreen magnifying glass helps you position the insertion point precisely where you need it. Grab-points on selected text let you quickly select more or less text. You can also cut, copy, and paste text and photos within apps, or across multiple apps.

Zoom & Magnify: Zoom on the iPod touch (5th gen) lets you magnify the entire screen of any application. You can zoom up to 5x normal size and move left, right, up, and down to view any portion of the screen up close. Zoom works everywhere, including the Home, Unlock, and Search screens, and with every app you purchase from the App Store.

White-on-Black: Use White on Black to invert the colors on the iPod touch (5th gen) display, which may make it easier to read the screen. The screen looks like a photographic negative when White-on-Black is turned on.

Wallpaper: You can set an image or photo as wallpaper for the device's Lock Screen. On the iPod touch (5th gen) you can also set wallpaper for your Home Screen. You can choose an image that came with the iPod touch (5th gen), or a photo synced to the iPod touch (5th gen) from your computer.

On-screen Keyboard With Dictionary: You can use the on-screen keyboard to enter text, such as contact information. The intelligent keyboard automatically suggests corrections as you type to help prevent mistyped words. The On-screen Keyboard can be viewed in horizontal or vertical orientation. The iPod touch (5th gen) offers keyboard & dictionary support for English, French, Spanish, and numerous other languages. For ease of typing, you can use an Apple Wireless Bluetooth enabled Keyboard (sold separately from Apple).

Camera, Mic, & Speaker

iSight Camera: The iSight camera on iPod touch (5th gen) offers 5 megapixels (7x more than the previous generation). The surface of the iSight camera is made from sapphire crystal, whose hardness is second only to diamond when it comes to transparent materials. So the surface of the lens is more resistant to scratches. Advanced optics, tap to focus, an LED flash, and face detection help you get the shot every time. The iSight camera shoots 1080p HD video (up to 30 fps). Use the panorama feature on iPod touch (5th gen) to grab a sweeping shot of your favorite city skyline or mountain view. Just tap the button, move the camera over the scene, and iPod touch (5th gen) seamlessly creates the perfect wide shot. You can also edit, crop, and enhance your photos right from iPod touch (5th gen) using the Photos app. For more editing options, try iPhoto or iMovie, available in the App Store

Front-Panel VGA Camera: On the front of the iPod touch (5th gen), is a built-in 1.2MP camera that is perfect for making FaceTime video-calls and shooting self-portraits. The front camera has been tuned specifically for FaceTime and self-portraits. It has just the right field of view and focal length to focus on your face at arm's length, so it always presents you in the best possible light. The front-panel camera supports HD video up to 720p (30 fps).

Video & Photo Tagging: If you have a Wi-Fi connection and the location services feature is turned on, photos and videos are tagged with location data. You can use this location data with some apps and photo-sharing websites to track and post where you took the photos.

Viewing Recorded Images: The photos and videos you take with the iPod touch (5th gen) are saved in the Camera Roll album on the device. You can view the Camera Roll album from either camera.

Trimming Videos: You can trim the frames from the beginning and end of a video that you just recorded, or any other video in the Camera Roll album. You can replace the original video or save the trimmed version as a new video clip.

Uploading Images: You can upload the photos and videos you take with the iPod touch (5th gen) to photo applications on your PC or Mac.

Built-in Microphone: The iPod touch (5th gen) features a built-in rear-panel microphone. During video recording, the built-in microphone records conversations, music, or any audio at the same time. The microphone also allows you to carry on your side of the conversation during FaceTime.

Built-In Speaker: The iPod touch (5th gen) features an integrated speaker behind its touch-screen panel for listening to your music, movies, & video-calls. There are volume controls along the left side of the unit. When a pair of headphones are plugged into the unit's 3.5mm headphone port, the built-in speaker is muted.

WiFi + AirPlay

Built-in Wi-Fi: The iPod touch (5th gen) has built-in Wi-Fi (802.11b/g/n) that allows you to wirelessly connect to the Internet. iPod touch (5th gen) can join AirPort other Wi-Fi networks at home, at work, or at Wi-Fi hotspots around the world. The iPod touch (5th gen) locates nearby wireless hotspots, including protected networks. When joined to a Wi-Fi network that is connected to the Internet, the iPod touch (5th gen) connects to the Internet automatically whenever you use Mail, Safari, YouTube, FaceTime, Game Center, Stocks, Maps, Weather, the App Store, or iTunes. If you have never used a particular network, it asks you to enter a password the first time, and it remembers the password from then on. So the next time you are within range, it connects automatically.

Note: Many Wi-Fi networks can be used free of charge, however some Wi-Fi networks require a fee. You can usually open Safari to see a webpage that allows you to sign up for service if charges are required.

AirPlay: Apple's AirPlay technology allows music to be streamed wirelessly from the iPod touch (5th gen) to an AirPlay enabled audio device, on the same WiFi network. You can even stream photos & videos to an Apple TV (sold separately). This  eliminates the need to have to dock the iPod touch (5th gen).

Safari Web Browser: Apple's Safari web browser is built right into the iPod touch (5th gen), giving you full access to the Internet. You can also sync your bookmarks on your computer. You can search the web using the touch (5th gen) screen keyboard to type in the URLs, including a "dot com" button for quicker browsing. Once you have reached a website, you can zoom in and out and pan up, down, left, or right with the tap or drag of a finger on the multi-touch (5th gen) display. You can have up to eight web-pages open at a time. You can even bookmark web-pages so that you can quickly return to them at any time without having to type the address. In addition, you can add Web Clips for you favorite web-pages to the iPod touch's (5th gen) Home screen for faster access.

iTunes Store: The iPod touch (5th gen) gives you access to the  online iTunes Store, which enables you to browse and purchase music, movies, and apps - all on the go.

  • Music: The iPod touch (5th gen) gives you access to the iTunes Wi-Fi Music Store, which enables you to browse and purchase music on the go. Whenever you are in a Wi-Fi hotspot, you can open the iTunes Music Store, hear a 30-second music clip and immediately download songs to your iPod touch (5th gen). When you reconnect to your computer, the newly purchased songs automatically sync up to your iTunes library.
  • Movies: You can download movies, TV shows, video podcasts, and music videos from the online iTunes store right to your iPod touch (5th gen).
  • Apps: You can search for, browse, review, purchase, and download applications from the App Store directly to iPod touch (5th gen). There are over 700,000 apps available. You can also install applications you have purchased or downloaded through iTunes on your computer when you sync with your iPod touch (5th gen). Applications you download and install from the App Store on iPod touch (5th gen) are backed up to your iTunes library the next time you sync the iPod touch (5th gen) with your computer.

Genius Recommendations for Apps: There are over 700,000  apps in the App Store, with more added every day. A new feature of the iPod touch (5th gen) makes finding new apps even easier. It is Genius for apps, and it works just like Genius for your music. Tap the Genius icon and get recommendations for apps that you might like based on apps you and others have downloaded.

iCloud: iCloud automatically and securely stores your content over the Internet so it's always available to your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch (5th gen), Mac, or PC. It gives you access to your music, apps, latest photos, and more from whichever device you happen to be using. And it keeps your email, contacts, and calendars up to date across all your devices. No syncing or management required. iCloud secures your content by encrypting it when sent over the Internet, storing it in an encrypted format, and using secure tokens for authentication.

  • iTunes: iCloud can automatically download new music purchases to all your devices over Wi-Fi or over 3G if you choose. Which means you can buy a song from iTunes on your iPad at home, and find it waiting for you on your iPod touch (5th gen) during your morning commute. You can also download music & TV shows you've previously purchased to all your Apple iOS devices. When you buy from iTunes, iCloud stores your purchase history. So you can see what you've bought, no matter which Apple iOS device you bought it on. You can access your purchase history from the iTunes Store on your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch (5th gen), Mac, PC, or Apple TV. And since you already own the songs, albums, or TV shows in your purchase history, you can tap to download them to any of your devices. All without having to sync.
  • Apps: iCloud lets you automatically download new app purchases to all your Apple iOS devices at once. So the app you need is always right where you need it. If an app you bought previously isn't on one of your devices, not to worry. You can download it again from your purchase history, at no additional charge.
  • Photo Stream: With Photo Stream, you can take a photo on one iOS device and it automatically appears on all your other devices, including your Mac or PC. Import new pictures to your computer from a digital camera, and iCloud sends copies over Wi-Fi to your iPod touch (5th gen) and other Apple iOS devices. You can even view recent photos on your big-screen TV via Apple TV. There's no syncing, no email attachments, no file transfers.
  • Documents: You can create amazing documents and presentations on your iPod touch (5th gen). And now with iCloud, you can keep your work up to date across all your iOS devices. You don't have to save your work or transfer any files. Your documents (with all your latest edits) automatically appear everywhere. iCloud is already built into Apple iOS apps. It can also work with other iCloud-enabled apps.
  • iBooks: Buy a new book from the iBookstore, and iCloud makes sure it appears on Apple iOS devices, including the iPod touch (5th gen). So if you have to put it down, you can pick it back up on another device, in exactly the same place. In addition to the best seller you're glued to at the moment, the iBooks app keeps a list of titles you've read before. And just like with apps, you can download them again to any of your devices.
  • Calendar: iCloud stores all the stuff you can't live without (your calendars, email, and contacts) and keeps it up to date across all your Apple iOS devices. Say you delete an email, add a calendar event, or change some settings; iCloud makes all your changes everywhere. Same with your notes, reminders, and Safari bookmarks.
  • Backup: iCloud backs up your iOS device daily over Wi-Fi when it's connected to a power source. From your Camera Roll and messages to your device settings and ringtones, everything is backed up quickly and efficiently. And since iCloud is built-in, you can restore your personal data on a new iOS device or one you already have without using a single cable. iCloud does it all for you over Wi-Fi.
Note: Automatic downloads and downloading previous purchases require iOS 4.3.3 or later on iPhone 3GS or later, iPod touch (3rd/4th generation) or iPad/iPad 2; iOS 5 on iPhone 4 (CDMA model); or a Mac/PC with iTunes 10.3.1 or later. Previous purchases may be unavailable if they are no longer in the iTunes Store, App Store, or iBookstore.

Contacts: You can use the iPod touch (5th gen) and iTunes to sync contacts to automatically keep your contacts up-to-date, whether you make changes on your computer or on the iPod touch (5th gen). You can sync contacts with applications such as MobileMe, and Yahoo! Address Book on a Mac, or with Yahoo! Address Book, Windows Address Book (Outlook Express), or Microsoft Outlook 2003/2007/2010 on a PC. (On a Mac, you can sync contacts on your computer with more than one application. On a PC, you can sync contacts with only one application.)

Mail: The iPod touch (5th gen) can send and receive embedded photos, videos, and graphics, as well as view PDFs and other attachments (JPEG/GIF/TIFF). The Mail features works with MobileMe, Microsoft Exchange, and many of the most popular email systems; including Yahoo!, Google, and AOL, as well as other industry-standard POP3 and IMAP email systems. You can sync email account settings from Mail on a Mac and from Microsoft Outlook 2003/2007/2010 on a PC. Changes you make to an email account on the iPod touch (5th gen) don't affect the account on your computer.

Note: You must have an email address which looks like "yourname@example.com" to use iPod touch (5th gen) for email. If you have Internet access, you most likely have an email address from your Internet service provider. Email accounts are available from most Internet service providers.

FaceTime: FaceTime on the iPod touch (5th gen) lets you see & talk with friends from one iPod touch (5th gen) to another iPod touch (4th/5th gen), or iPhone (4/4S/5) over Wi-Fi using the device's integrated cameras, microphone, and speaker. You can use the front camera to talk face-to-face, or the rear camera to share what you see around you. Your FaceTime conversation is carried over the device's built-in microphone and built-in speaker, or included headphones. To make a FaceTime call, choose someone from your contacts, favorites, or list of recent calls. Buttons at the bottom of the FaceTime screen give you quick access to all three. While talking to someone in FaceTime, you can switch cameras, change camera orientation, mute your microphone, move your picture-in-picture display, open another application, and finally, end your call.

Note: To sign in to FaceTime, you need an Apple ID. If you already have an iTunes Store account, MobileMe account, or other Apple account, you can use that Apple ID with FaceTime. If you don't have an Apple account, you can create a new one when you open FaceTime. FaceTime may not be available in all countries or regions.

iMessage: Using the Messages app and the built-in iMessage service, you can send unlimited text messages over Wi-Fi to other iOS and OS X Mountain Lion users. Messages can include photos, videos, and other info. You can see when other people are typing, and notify them when you've read their messages. iMessages are displayed on all of your iOS devices logged in to the same account, so you can start a conversation on one of your devices, and continue it on another device. Messages are encrypted for security.

Notification Center: You can get all kinds of notifications on the iPod touch (5th gen); such as new email, texts, friend requests, and more. With Notification Center, you can keep track of them all in one convenient location. Simply swipe down from the top of any screen to enter Notification Center and choose which notifications you want to see. Even see a stock ticker and the current weather. New notifications appear briefly at the top of your screen, without interrupting what you're doing. And the Lock screen displays notifications so you can act on them with just a swipe. Notification Center is the best way to stay on top of your life's breaking news.

Facebook: Now it's easier than ever to interact with the world's largest social network. And there's no need to leave your app to do it. Share a photo to Facebook right from Camera or Photos. Post your location right from Maps. Brag about a high score right from Game Center. If you have your hands full, just ask Siri to post for you. You need to sign in to Facebook only once, and you'll be off and sharing. Never miss another birthday or get-together, since Facebook events are integrated into Calendar. And your Facebook friends' profile information is integrated into Contacts, so when they update an email address or phone number you automatically stay up to date.

Twitter: Twitter is integrated into the iPod touch (5th gen). So you can sign in once under Settings and begin tweeting directly from Safari, Photos, Camera, YouTube, and Maps. You can even start typing a friend's Twitter name and iOS will auto complete the rest from your contacts

Maps: Using the iPod touch (5th gen), you can see a street map, satellite, or hybrid view of locations around the world. You are even able to zoom in for a closer look and pan through the on-screen map image. You can use the Map feature to find your current approximate location, get detailed driving directions, and/or see current highway traffic conditions, as well as find businesses in the area in certain parts of the country (where applicable).

Newstand: iOS 6.0 organizes your magazine and newspaper app subscriptions in "Newsstand"; a folder that lets you access your favorite publications quickly & easily. There's also a new place on the App Store just for newspaper & magazine subscriptions. And you can get to it straight from Newsstand. New purchases go directly to your Newsstand folder. Then, as new issues become available, Newsstand automatically updates them in the background; complete with the latest covers.

iBooks: iBooks is a great way to read and buy books. Download the free iBooks app from the App Store, and then get everything from classics to best sellers from the built-in iBookstore. Once you download a book, it's displayed on iPod touch's (5th gen) on-screen bookshelf. You can add ePub and PDF books to your bookshelf using iTunes.

Calendar: The iPod touch's (5th gen) Calendar gives you immediate access to your calendars and events. You can view individual calendars, or several calendars at once. You can view your events by day, by month, or in a list. You can search the titles, invitees, locations, and notes of events. If you have entered birthdays for your contacts, you can view those birthdays in the Calendar. You can sync the iPod touch (5th gen) with the calendars on your computer, and with services such as MobileMe, Microsoft Exchange, Yahoo!, and Google. You can also make, edit, or cancel appointments on the iPod touch (5th gen) and have them sync back to your computer or calendar account. If you have a MobileMe, Microsoft Exchange, Google, Yahoo!, or CalDAV account, your calendars can sync over the air without connecting the iPod touch (5th gen) to your computer. You can view the iPod touch's (5th gen) calendar in one of three views.

  • List View: all appointments and events appear in an easy-to-scan list; you can scroll up or down to see previous or upcoming days
  • Day View: scroll up or down to see hours earlier or later in the day; tap the arrow keys to see the previous or next day
  • Month View: days with events show a dot below the date on an on-screen monthly calendar; select a day to see its events in a list below the calendar display

Weather: The iPod touch (5th gen) gives you current weather conditions and a six-day forecast in your hometown or around the world. You can store your favorite cities for quick weather reports anytime.

Stocks: When you tap Stocks from the iPod touch's (5th gen) Home screen, the stock reader shows updated quotes for all your stocks. Quotes are updated every time you open Stocks while connected to the Internet. Quotes may be delayed by up to 20 minutes.

Music Storage Capacity: This iPod touch (3rd generation) has a built-in 32GB flash drive, capable of storing up to 7,000 songs (4-minute song average--recorded in AAC format at 128 kbps). The 32GB flash memory will not skip, regardless of activity level.

Audio Formats: The iPod touch (5th gen) supports the following audio formats: AAC (8-320 Kbps), Protected AAC (from iTunes Music Store), HE-AAC, MP3 (8-320 Kbps), MP3 VBR, Audible (formats 2/3/4, Audible Enhanced Audio, AAX/+), Apple Lossless, WAV, and AIFF. When you import music from a CD using iTunes, it is converted to AAC format by default.

Note: If you are using iTunes for Windows, you can convert non-protected WMA files to AAC or MP3 format.

Podcast, Audiobooks & iTunes U Collections: The iPod touch (5th gen) supports the download and playback of Podcasts, iTunes U, and Audiobooks.

  • Listening to Podcasts: Podcasts are free, downloadable shows available at the iTunes Store. Podcasts are organized by shows, episodes within shows, and chapters within episodes. If you stop playing a podcast and return to it later, the podcast begins playing where you left off.
  • iTunes U: iTunes U is a part of the iTunes Store featuring free lectures, language lessons, audiobooks, and more, which you can download and enjoy on the iPod touch (5th gen). iTunes U content is organized by collections, items within collections, authors, and providers.
  • Audiobooks: In addition to music, you can download audio books from the iTunes Music Store (approximately 9,000 titles) or from Audible.com, an independent website with over 18,000 titles. The iPod will keep track of where you left off when you listened last like a virtual bookmark, and when you sync up with iTunes, the bookmark will continually update between the iPod and iTunes. You can also set the speed at which the audio book is played back.

Auto Music Syncing: By default, the iPod touch (5th gen) is set to sync all songs and playlists when you connect it to your computer. This is the simplest way to add music to the iPod touch (5th gen). You just connect the iPod touch (5th gen) to your computer, let it add songs, audiobooks, photos, and other items automatically, and then disconnect it and go. If you added any songs to iTunes since the last time you connected your iPod touch (5th gen), they will be synced with your iPod touch (5th gen). If you deleted songs from iTunes, they are removed from your iPod touch (5th gen).

Note: Setting iTunes to sync selected playlists to iPod touch (5th gen) is useful if the music in your iTunes library does not all fit on your iPod touch (5th gen). Only the music in the playlists you select is synced to your iPod touch (5th gen).

Browsing Music: You can browse content on the iPod touch (5th gen) by playlists, artists, songs, videos, and other categories, or browse your album artwork using Cover Flow. Playlist folders, which you can sync from iTunes, let you organize playlists into groups

Playlists: You can use the iPod touch (5th gen) preset playlists or create your own playlists of songs, podcasts, and audiobooks. Playlists you create on the iPod touch (5th gen) are synced back to iTunes the next time you connect.

  • 90's Music: List of music from the 1990's in the iPod touch (5th gen) music library.
  • Classical Music: List of classical music stored on the iPod touch (5th gen) flash drive.
  • Music Videos: List of music videos downloaded onto the iPod touch (5th gen) from iTunes (will only play audio with album art)
  • Top Rated: You can assign a rating to a song (from zero to five stars) to indicate how much you like it. You can use song ratings to help you create Smart Playlists automatically in iTunes.
  • Recently Added: This is a list of the most recently added songs on the iPod touch (5th gen) downloaded from iTunes.
  • Recently Played: This is a list of the most recently played songs on the iPod touch (5th gen) from your music library.
  • Top 25 Most Played: This is a list of the 25 most listened to songs on the iPod touch (5th gen) from your music library.

Genius: Genius finds songs in your iTunes library that go great together and uses them to create Genius playlists and Genius Mixes. Genius playlists and Genius Mixes created in iTunes can be synced to the iPod touch (5th gen) like any other iTunes playlist.

  • Genius Playlist: The iPod touch's (5th gen) Genius Playlist feature automatically creates a playlist of songs from your library that go great together with the song you are currently playing. It is like having a built-in DJ who knows your tastes well enough to make the right mix just for you. To use Genius on iPod touch (5th gen), you first need to set up Genius in iTunes, then sync iPod touch (5th gen) with iTunes. Genius is a free service, but it requires an iTunes Store Account. You can make Genius playlists in iTunes and sync them to iPod touch (5th gen). You can also make Genius playlists directly on iPod touch (5th gen).
  • Genius Mixes: All you do is sync iPod touch to iTunes, and Genius Mixes automatically searches your music library to find songs that sound great together and creates multiple music mixes. These mixes are like music channels programmed entirely with your music. Genius Mixes are recreated each time you listen to them, so they are always new and fresh.

Cover Flow: When you're browsing music, you can rotate your iPod touch (5th gen) sideways to see your iTunes content in Cover Flow. This allows you to browse your music by album artwork. To browse album covers, you can drag or flick your finger to the left or right. Once you have found the desired album, you can tap the cover picture to see a list of the album tracks. Dragging your finger up and down the list allows you to locate (and tap) a track title to begin playback.

Adding Lyrics: You can enter song lyrics in plain text format into iTunes so that you can view the song lyrics on your iPod touch (4th gen) while the song is playing.

Repeat & Shuffle: The Apple iPod touch (5th gen) offers Repeat & Shuffle (Shake) playback functions.

  • Repeat: You can set the iPod touch (5th generation) to repeat one song over and over, or repeat all songs in the list (album or playlist) from which the song was selected.
  • Shake-To-Shuffle Playback: You can play songs, albums, or playlists in random order, and set the iPod touch (5th gen) to shuffle songs when you give it a quick shake. When the screen is on, you can give iPod touch (5th gen) a quick shake to skip to a random song. If the screen is off, press the "Sleep/Wake" button before you shake.

Audio Settings: The iPod touch (5th gen) features the following custom audio settings.

  • Equalizer: The iPod touch (5th gen) built-in equalizer has 22 EQ presets to change the sound to suit a particular music genre or style. The presets include: Acoustic, Bass Booster, Bass Reducer, Classical, Dance, Deep, Electronic, Flat, Hip Hop, Jazz, Latin, Loudness, Lounge, Piano, Pop, R&B, Rock, Small Speakers, Spoken Word, Treble Booster, Treble Reducer, Vocal Booster, and Off.
  • Maximum Volume Limiter: The iPod touch (5th gen) provides an easy way for you to set a maximum volume limit to prevent the volume from exceeding a certain level. This feature works with any headphones attached to the headphone jack; other Apple and third-party accessories are not supported with this feature. You can also assign a combination to prevent the setting from being changed which is ideal for parental control.
  • Same Volume Level: iTunes can automatically adjust the volume of songs, so they play at the same relative volume level. You can set iPod touch to use the iTunes volume settings.
  • Mono Audio: If your hearing is limited in one ear, turn on Mono Audio feature to route left & right audio into both earbuds so you can hear both channels in either ear. Mono Audio combines the sound of the left and right channels into a monaural signal that plays through both sides of your earphones. This enables users with a hearing impairment in one ear to hear both channels with the other ear.

Video & Photo Viewer

Video/Photo Viewer: The iPod touch (5th gen) lets you carry photos and videos with you, so you can share them with your family, friends, and associates. You can sync photos and videos from your computer, view photos and videos taken with iPod touch, and use photos as wallpaper. You can also send photos and videos in email messages, and upload photos and videos to MobileMe galleries.

You can also see the places where your photos and videos were taken if they were tagged with location data.

Over 100,000 games are available from the App store. The iPod touch (5th gen) also offer Peer-to-Peer Gaming.

Fingertip Control: Many games for iPod touch (5th gen) use Multi-touch to give you precise, fingertip control over game elements. Use your finger to drag your pieces around the board in chess or dice games. Or pinch to enlarge or shrink your view, rotate your character left or right, or just tap to make a selection.

Accelerometer: The integrated accelerometer and built-in three-axis gyroscope actually respond to your movements, so you can tilt and turn your iPod touch (4th gem) to control the action. It's perfect for racing games, where your entire iPod touch (5th gen) acts as a steering wheel, and for tap-and-tilt games such as Super Monkey Ball, in which your character rolls to your movements.

Peer-to-Peer Gaming: Peer-to-Peer Gaming allows you to play the latest head-to-head games with a friend, who is also using an iPod touch, whether your friend is sitting next to you (via Bluetooth) or across the country (via network connection).

Game Center: The new Game Center app on the iPod touch (5th gen) lets you add more players to your social gaming network. You can discover new games and share your game experiences with friends around the world in Game Center. You can look at how your score ranks against your friends and other players of each game, as well as compare game achievements with your friends. You can either put together a select group of friends to play with, or choose to automatically go up against people you don't know from anywhere around the world in a multiplayer game. Games for the Game Center are available from the App Store. The Games screen displays the games you download from the iTunes Store. For each of the games, your number of achievements and your ranking among all the game's players are displayed.

Note: To use Game Center, you need an Internet connection and an Apple ID. If you already have an iTunes Store, MobileMe, or other Apple account, you can use that Apple ID with Game Center. Siri lets you write and send a message, schedule a meeting, place a FaceTime call, get directions, set a reminder, search the web, and much more-simply by talking naturally. Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought this IPOD for my daughter and she loves it. With 32GB she has loaded her whole music collection and still has room for more. She loves the wy-fi feature her old IPOD NANO did not have.

Pros: Lots of useful features.

Cons: None.

Delivers on It's Promises

Written By Scott, Olympia, WA on Monday, August 18, 2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

When compared with previous models, the newest iTouch is thinner and lighter while maintaining all the features we use and appreciate.

Pros: Bright screen, easy to navigate, large storage (I have 4000 songs on mine with plenty of free space).

Cons: Screen does not rotate when playing music (which means it has to stand upright at the gym, a bit risky with all the vibrations and chance of falling); buttons are so small when you attempt to forward to the next song it's easy to hit the volume control and get an unexpected (and loud) earful.

Great Product

Written By tim, Houston on Saturday, January 18, 2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is a great product, and my daughter, who is a bit too young for a phone, loves it. The picture and video quality are excellent, and with a little know-how, it can essentially be used as a phone when connected to Wi-Fi.

Cons: The only con is that I had to return the item I ordered from Crutchfield and fight Houston crowds to buy a replacement in time for Christmas. Although Crutchfield guaranteed delivery before Christmas, the great UPS debacle ended up with a delivery date of December 27. However, Crutchfield was eager to help, provided for free return shipping, credited my account, and provided great customer service. So, in the end, the product is excellent, and so was customer service.

My previous IPod was a first generation model, so it was so nice to receive this model, which is thinner and has a larger screen. There is a front and rear camera. You can backup your files/photos, etc. to iCloud

Pros: Thin, nice size screen, front/rear camera and I can finally play Plants vs Zombies (which I couldn't on my 1st generation model)

Cons: None that I have found

As always it only gets better!

iPod touch 5th gen is a winner!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Bought this to replace my 2nd generation model. Thanks to Crutchfield and the CExchange program, I was able to return my old iPod and another item to CExchange for credit towards my new purchase (see the "Trade in your gear" link at the bottom of the page).

The new iPod Touch is like night and day compared to the older model. The design is minimalist cool: a sleek rectangle of glass and satin-finish aluminum in your choice of 5 cool colors. All my apps run faster. The retina display makes all the graphics super clear. Taking pictures is a snap (literally), and you don't even have to log in if you just want to turn it on to take a quick snapshot. With WiFi, you don't have to connect it to your PC to sync up with iTunes (same with keeping your contacts and calendars up-to-date on your PC: change something on one device and it updates on the other). Even the included ear buds are an improved design. They sound amazingly clear and balanced with good bass response, even at low volumes.

In virtually every aspect, the 5th generation iPod touch is a winner. And once again, thanks to Crutchfield for speedy service and excellent customer support.

Cons: None! Get one!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought this as a graduation present for my middle school school son. He loves the features, ease of use, good camera, long battery life and quick transfer of music through our IMAC. I also appreciated the parental controls to disallow the use of the internet if appropriate. Of course the service that crutchfield provided was flawless!

Love my new iPod Touch

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Bought this nit to replace my old clickwheel iPod. Instead of going with the same model, decided to upgrade to the touch model as the spinning hard drive, although larger, means a shorter battery life in the clickwheel. So far so good, although as I already own an iphone the touch does have a lot of redundancy when I have both devices. I would recommend this for someone looking for a device with a lot of features, if you are just looking for a system to play music only there are probably cheaper options.

Pros: A LOT of features, good battery life

Cons: Expensive when compared to similar music only players.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought my wife an i pod touch a about a year ago and she loved it. Because it was for her I never really got my hands on it until recently. Out of that experience I decided to buy one for myself. My new i pod touch is awesome. What Apple has packed into this small, sleek, hi tech device, is almost unbelievable. I liked it so much that I retired my PC (I've been on a PC for too many years to count) and bought a new iMac to go with my iPod touch. Now I manage my iTunes account from the iMac and the experience is a delight.

Pros: Wireless, Face Time, Camera, and of course the music library, which I can customize to my liking.

Cons: None yet

I really like my new iPod Touch! Face Time and Messages are my favorite features; the camera is awesome. The iTunes store is built into the device, so it's very easy to access the music and podcasts that I want. Very Satisfied!!
