Our take on the Profile AP1000M

Want big bass? Look at our Subwoofers Power, control, and a great price. You'll get all of that with Profile's AP1000M mono subwoofer amp. It's a great choice when you're looking to bring on the bass — it'll deliver 310 teeth-rattling watts at 4 ohms, with a jaw-dropping 500 watts of power coming your way at 2 ohms.

The level of control is amazing for an amp in this price range. It starts with a handy remote-mount bass control — mount the control in a convenient spot (16.4 foot cable included) and you can adjust the level of bass output right from your driver's seat! The continuously adjustable phase control (0-180 degrees) ensures that the bass will blend properly with the rest of your system.

You can dial in just the right amount of thump with the variable bass boost. You can also eliminate reproduction of inaudible, power-wasting frequencies that can damage your woofers with the variable subsonic filter.

Thanks to the speaker-level inputs, the AP1000M hooks up easily to a factory stereo. Adding more than one amp? The preamp outputs let you send signal to a second amp without running extra patch cables from the receiver.

Features

Power Strip: This Profile California AP1000M amplifier features a bright red power light strip on the top center of the unit to indicate when the amp is turned on. The 4-3/4" power light strip consists of six LEDs. The green LED on the power/speaker terminal side of the amplifier will also light when power is sent to the amp.

Bass Level Remote Control: This amp is equipped with a wired remote control that allows you to adjust the level of the amplifier. The remote is designed to be mounted under the dash to allow control from the driver's seat. Dimensions: Width=1.585" (2.566" including mounting tabs), Height=0.75", Depth=1.368" (1.758" including knob), Cable length=16'.

High-to-Low Level Converter: The amp is equipped with an external high (speaker) level to low (line) level converter to allow you to connect the amplifier to a receiver or factory radio without RCA preamp outputs. After splicing the receiver's speaker wires to the converter's speaker wires, you can simply plug the converter into the amp's RCA preamp input.

Line Outputs: The AP1000M includes a pair of RCA line outputs for sending an unfiltered signal to another amplifier or component without splitting the signal.

Protection Circuits: This amp has three types of protection circuits: DC offset, short circuit and thermal protection. The red LED on the right side of the amplifier will light to indicate that the amplifier has gone into protection.

Built-In Crossover: This amplifier includes a built-in variable low pass filter with a slope of 12dB/octave. The low pass filter is continuously variable from 50-250Hz.

Note: The low-pass filter cannot be turned off; it is always active.

Bass Boost: For added low frequency performance, this amplifier has a 0 to 12 dB variable bass boost centered at 45 Hz.

Subsonic Filter: The AP1000M features a built-in variable subsonic filter with a slope of 12dB/octave. The subsonic filter is continuously variable between 20-50Hz. This filter avoids the reproduction of inaudible low frequencies which could damage subwoofers because they can generate over-excursion of the subwoofer cone.

Note: The subsonic filter cannot be turned off; it is always active.

Phase Control: This amp is equipped with a continuously adjustable phase lag control on the subwoofer(s) from 0 to 180 degrees. This control helps to align the phase shift of a subwoofer for a smooth blending, without canceling the bass from other speakers or subwoofers.

Inputs and Outputs Notes

Gold-plated Terminals: The AP1000M features gold-plated speaker and power terminals and RCA jacks for maximum signal transfer and corrosion resistance.

Set Screw Terminals: The power and ground connections feature set-screw terminals that can accept up to 4-gauge bare wire. The remote turn-on and speaker output set-screw terminals can accept up to 6-gauge bare wire. Two Allen wrenches (2.5mm and 3mm) are supplied to tighten/loosen the set screws.

Remote Turn-on: In addition to turning on and turning off the amplifier via the head unit's remote output, the remote turn-on also operates the reset circuit for the amplifier's protection system. The remote turn-on lead must be connected to the head unit in order to reset the protection circuits.

Bass Remote: The amp has a female RJ-11 phone jack for plugging in the Bass Level Remote Control cable.

Warranty Note

Warranty: The manual indicates a 1-year parts and labor warranty, however Profile has extended the warranty to three years parts and labor for units purchased from Crutchfield.

Great Quality

Written By Eric, Virginia Beach, VA on Sunday, February 01, 2009

I have this amp installed in a '05 Trailblazer paired to 3 Polk MOMO 8" subs in series parallel @ 2.67 ohms. This amp is plenty for those subs which can handle 200 watts RMS, and I'm only pushing about 160 RMS. This is a great amp for the price. I'm glad I didn't spend more $ on a different amp.
Highly recommended.

BASS

Written By Jason, Portland, Or on Thursday, January 22, 2009

This amplifier definitely puts out the bass. I have two 12inch MTX t4512-04 subs wired in parallel pulling 500 watts rms from the amplifer. They redid the bass remote within the past year to have a much tighter, better quality remote and the LED is much brighter, very nice. Also, if the wire for the bass remote isnt long enough, you can just buy a longer wire, it's just a regular phone wire.

The amp has unfiltered Pre-amp outputs as well which is nice because I have another sub hooked up to another amp and i dont have to run extra wires.

It isnt the most visually pleasing amp that i've seen , but it definitely is at night, the red strip in hte middle is very tasteful.

another bonus is that if you do not have a deck with pre-amps, it comes with a line output converter so you dont have to spend extra elsewhere upgrading that.

Clean Power

Written By Pr0jKtZer0, Cary North Carolina on Tuesday, January 06, 2009

Was only looking to spend a couple hundred bucks on an amp to power my 2 Polk Momo 12' 4 ohm subs. Looked all around for a good deal on a powerful and clear amp. Was about to buy a $300 kenwood until my dad told me about this amp. Was very skeptical about it, doesnt look to have alot of power, and its not a name brand. Agreed that my dad could order it for me and if i didnt like it i could return it within a week. Only took 2 days for it to get to my house, crutchfield is very good with shipping on time. Hooked it up and let it run on low power for an hour to get it warmed up for the first time. Then went driving around to test it out. Could not believe the amout of clear power this thing puts out. Very good buy. Hitting 105db with this amp hooked up to my polks. Working on a new box with 6x9's in it with another profile amp. cant wait to get it all done.

Profile is the best!

Written By Brett, Cibolo, TX on Sunday, December 28, 2008

I first used Profile back in 1996 when I got my first car. I've never used any other amplifiers in my life. These amplifiers last and can take a beating.

I first purchased this particular amplifier back in early 2004 and it still works, but the remote line doesn't turn off so it drained the battery. I had to get rid of it back in April, but I bought a new one because they are so durable. 4 years for this price is well worth it!

The only con is the integrated crossover doesn't completely block all frequencies, but, with today's modern technology, almost all receivers have built-in crossovers so it's not really an issue.

Award yourself, buy a Profile amp today!

Good amp for the money!!

Written By Justin, Alva, Florida on Saturday, September 13, 2008

Great Amp! I put in my kids van and he loves it. I had an Audiobahn 850 watt amp driving 2 Mtx 8000s and he says this is way better than it. Didn't use the remote bass feature as the stereo has bass control. Easy install, took about a half hour since I was replacing another amp. Might get one for my car now!!

Best bang for the buck!

Written By Anthony, Maumelle, AR on Thursday, August 28, 2008

Like others have said, Profile doesn't carry the same prestige as say JL Audio or Alpine, but I guarantee for the money there's no better amp out there. I've had an Alpine amp before, and yes it was a good amplifier, but it sounded no better than this Profile. I've run both a JL 10 and a JL 12 with this amp and it simply rocks! Very clean power and true to it's rating. I love the bass controller too. I waited a while before I posted this, as I've had this amp now for nearly 2 years. It's never wavered once and never pops at turn on or anything. You'll probably never get the gain control past 25%. You won't be disappointed. I'm about to buy a 4 channel Profile for my door speakers since I had such good luck with this one.
