Our take on the Profile AP700M

Want big bass? Look at our Subwoofers Power, control, versatility, and a great price. You'll get all of that with Profile's California series AP700M mono subwoofer amp. It's a great choice for driving a sub or two, delivering up to 350 watts of power.

You won't find this level of control in another amp in this price range. It starts with a handy remote-mount bass control — just mount the control in a convenient spot and adjust the level from your driver's seat. A variable bass boost for dials in just the right amount of bump, and an adjustable phase control ensures that the bass will blend properly with the rest of your system.

Profile's even included a variable subsonic filter that eliminates reproduction of inaudible, power-wasting frequencies. Thanks to the speaker-level inputs, the AP700M hooks up easily to a factory stereo. The preamp outputs let you send signal to a second amp.

Versatile hook-up options, plenty of power, lots of control, and a price that's easy on the wallet. Profile's California series amps cover all the bases.

Features

Power Strip: This Profile California AP700M amplifier features a bright red power light strip on the top center of the unit to indicate when the amp is turned on. The 4" power light strip consists of 5 LEDs. The green LED on the power/speaker terminal side of the amplifier will also light when power is sent to the amp.

Bass Level Remote Control: This amp is equipped with a wired remote control that allows you to adjust the level of the amplifier. The remote is designed to be mounted under the dash to allow control from the driver's seat. Dimensions: Width=1.585" (2.566" including mounting tabs), Height=0.75", Depth=1.368" (1.758" including knob), Cable length=16'.

High-to-Low Level Converter: The amp is equipped with an external high (speaker) level to low (line) level converter to allow you to connect the amplifier to a receiver or factory radio without RCA preamp outputs. After splicing the receiver's speaker wires to the converter's speaker wires, you can simply plug the converter into the amp's RCA preamp input.

Line Outputs: The AP700M includes a pair of RCA line outputs for sending an unfiltered signal to another amplifier or component without splitting the signal.

Protection Circuits: This amp has three types of protection circuits: DC offset, short circuit and thermal protection. The red LED on the right side of the amplifier will light to indicate that the amplifier has gone into protection.

Built-In Crossover: This amplifier includes a built-in variable low pass filter with a slope of 12dB/octave. The low pass filter is continuously variable from 50-250Hz.

Note: The low-pass filter cannot be turned off; it is always active.

Bass Boost: For added low frequency performance, this amplifier has a 0 to 12 dB variable bass boost centered at 45 Hz.

Subsonic Filter: The AP700M features a built-in variable subsonic filter with a slope of 12dB/octave. The subsonic filter is continuously variable between 20-50Hz. This filter avoids the reproduction of inaudible low frequencies which could damage subwoofers because they can generate over-excursion of the subwoofer cone.

Note: The subsonic filter cannot be turned off; it is always active.

Phase Control: This amp is equipped with a continuously adjustable phase lag control on the subwoofer(s) from 0 to 180 degrees. This control helps to align the phase shift of a subwoofer for a smooth blending, without canceling the bass from other speakers or subwoofers.

Inputs and Outputs Notes

Gold-plated Terminals: The AP700M features gold-plated speaker and power terminals and RCA jacks for maximum signal transfer and corrosion resistance.

Set Screw Terminals: The power and ground connections feature set-screw terminals that can accept up to 4-gauge bare wire. The remote turn-on and speaker output set-screw terminals can accept up to 6-gauge bare wire. Two Allen wrenches (2.5mm and 3mm) are supplied to tighten/loosen the set screws.

Remote Turn-on: In addition to turning on and turning off the amplifier via the head unit's remote output, the remote turn-on also operates the reset circuit for the amplifier's protection system. The remote turn-on lead must be connected to the head unit in order to reset the protection circuits.

Bass Remote: The amp has a female RJ-11 phone jack for plugging in the Bass Level Remote Control cable.

Warranty Note

Warranty: The manual indicates a 1-year parts and labor warranty, however Profile has extended the warranty to three years parts and labor for units purchased from Crutchfield.

Great Amp

Written By Walt, New Orleans on Sunday, December 14, 2008

I hooked this amp up to a DVC 4 Ohm 15" Kicker Comp VR with a bandpass box...paralled the wires to bring it down to 2 Ohm, so I'm getting the 350 RMS...hits pretty hard...amp was very easy to install...the red stripe on the front of the amp is kind of cheesey though...it's in sections, so it's not even and has small gaps between the segments. The blue light on the bass knob is pretty bright but I love having control of how hard I want the BUMP at my fingertips... I'm still tinkering w/ all of the controls on the amp to try and get it just right...look at me...I just purchased this amp and I'm now looking at the AP1000M...that just shows the confidence I have in Profile in producing the quality power I'm wanting...GOOD JOB PROFILE & CRUTCHFIELD

Amazing amp for the money!

Written By Jeremy, New Albany IN on Friday, September 05, 2008

This has been a great amp for the money! Low cost and high quality are usually two things that don't go together in the car audio world, but this amp fits the bill! The remote bass control is a great little feature, but as others have said the blue LED on it is way too bright. I mounted mine inside my ash tray so it is rarely seen.

The amp is also the exact same size as the 740 model I ordered to run my mids, so they are a perfect match sitting side by side.

I am pushing a single 10" Infinity Referance sub with this amp and it rocks!

Amp runs cool and clean. I not seen or heard any problems with it personaly.

This and the 740 were the first Profile amps I bought, and I was at first leary of the low cost, but I am sold. I will buy Profile amps again!

The 3 year warrenty offered when buying through Crutchfield is a great bonus!

Profile AP700M

Written By James, SF, CA on Monday, January 08, 2007

When i first got this amp, I wasn't too impressed. The general impression i got was that it looked kind of cheap. The light strip at the top was misaligned, and the amp itself was pretty plain. This did not really bother me because it was going to be under the passenger seat where nobody could get a good look at it. Make sure you take into consideration how bright the LED on the remote is before you mount it. (It blinds me when i look straight at it.)

That said, it performs very well. I have it hooked up to a Rockford Fosgate P210S4 (single 10") and it delivers all the power that this sub needs. It won't crack the pavement under your car, but it has a good bump to it. There are several useful adjustments on it that allow you to get the sound that you like. The wired remote is very useful for when you just want to crank the volume and feel the bass. My head unit has adjustments on it for the subwoofer too, so my sound options are even more varied. Also, the light strip adds a cool red glow to the floor of my car at night, and the blue LED on the remote adds a cool blue glow to the top of my car.

All in all, I would advise anyone to purchase this amp. Profile did an excellent job creating a low-cost yet quality amp. With the included three-year warranty, what more could you ask for?

Profile AP700M

Written By Sanson, Boston, MA on Monday, December 18, 2006

Amp: Profile AP700M
Sub: Thunder4500 T4512-04 12" 4-ohm subwoofer
Box: Q-Logic QLH-12S100 sealed subwoofer box

There are many settings with this amp. I set the gain on 1/3, Bass boost on 2/3, Low at 65hz and left the Subsonic/Phase as is. I didn't use the bass remote because I can adjust it with the deck's subwoofer setting.

It's a great amp for the price. The look is "ok"

Profile amps perform, why pay more

Written By Dave, San Antonio, TX on Thursday, September 07, 2006

This is my second profile amp. This one is in my Ram pickup, for lack of space I have it driving one 12" Infinity Perfect in a 1 cu ft box and it slams low and clean. I have the factory Infinity CD player with upgraded speakers. The amp adjustments allow all the tuning I need to blend in perfectly with my deck. The remote is a very nice feature, I painted a black dot over the tip of the super bright LED, and it hides into the cup holder panel when it closes. I have received many complements on the sound of both vehicles with these amps. Oh, and a 3 year warranty, I'm sold on these amps.

this thing is nice! i have the sub wired at 2 ohms so its pushing 350watts to it!

i get many compliments on how such a relatively small system sounds.
