Add some impact to your system

If your ride's audio system sounds less than inspiring, Lightning Audio's L1-S412 12" sub can add the impact and power that you've been missing. You'll really feel the kick drum and bass lines in your favorite tracks while you ride around town, so cruising's that much more enjoyable.

Lightning Audio L1-S412 12" subwoofer

The heavy-duty steel frame provides a rock-solid foundation for your bass.

Built tough

Lightning Audio built the L1-S412 with a tough polypropylene cone and a durable poly-foam surround so it'll deliver strong bass for years to come. The sub's heavy-gauge steel basket won't flex or vibrate, so your bass will stay consistent and clear, even at high levels. Lightning Audio built this sub to last, using the most up-to-date materials and design. A single 4-ohm voice-coil allows for compatibility with most amplifiers.

To drive this single subwoofer, we recommend a mono amplifier rated between 120 and 225 watts RMS at 4 ohms. For more information, please refer to our article on How to Match Subwoofers and Amplifiers.

What's a component sub and why would I want one?

A component sub is simply a speaker that's designed to reproduce bass once it's installed in a compatible enclosure. Think about the impact of a movie soundtrack in a big theater or even in your own home HDTV setup. A component sub can add the same kind of power to the music in your car. And a car sub is not all about the boom that you hear on a street corner (although that's cool too) - you can pair a component sub with your choice of enclosure to get bass just the way you like it, from tight and punchy to fat and loose. And once you experience music in your car with a well-tuned subwoofer, you'll never go back.

Big Sound without Big price

This is one of the hardest hitting subs I have ever heard. Clean, powerful, and accurate. I put a pair of these in a '99 Accord with a 1000 watt amp around 500RMS with a ported bass box. 1.65 cubic feet per sub ported into one center port. Couldn't be more satisfied with it's quality.

Pros: Nothing sounds like this sub for less than $250.00.

Cons: none

Enclosure Compatibility

Compression Terminals: The wire terminals are spring post and will accommodate speaker wire up to 10 gauge.

CEA-2031 Compliant: Power handling for the L1-S412 conforms to CEA-2031 industry standards, meaning the subwoofer has the capacity to handle its 150 watt RMS power rating continuously.

Trim Ring: To improve the cosmetic look, a trim ring is included that mounts over the flange of the woofer. When using the PVC trim ring the woofer is first mounted with four screws, then the ring is placed on top of the woofer, aligning the final four holes of the woofer with ring. The other four screws are used for these holes to mount the ring and woofer to the enclosure. The trim ring increases the mounting height of the woofer to approximately 1" and its diameter is 13".

Enclosure Compatibility

Sealed Box: Lightning Audio recommends a sealed enclosure with an optimum internal volume of 0.85 ft³ (from 0.7 to 1.8 ft³ is acceptable). Sealed enclosures provide the most control over a woofer, will handle a lot of power, and provide accurate sonic reproduction, making them suitable to all types of music.

Ported Box: The recommended ported enclosure volume is 1.95 ft³ using one 4" diameter x 14-1/2" long port; this yields a tuning frequency of 36 Hz. Ported (or vented) enclosures typically provide better overall efficiency than sealed so they are suitable for use with smaller amplifiers, giving you more bass output from less power. However, this efficiency comes at the expense of very low frequency output (below 33 Hz).
