About the Lightning Audio L-5600
Harness the power of Lightning
Harness the power of Lightning
Lightning Audio's L-5600 5-channel amplifier will add power and clarity to your whole system, sending 50 watts RMS to each of your four speakers and up to 300 watts RMS to a subwoofer. If you're running just front speakers and a subwoofer, you can set up this amp to send 150 watts RMS to each of the two full-range speakers and 300 watts RMS to the sub.
Versatile connections and controls
This amp can take its inputs via RCA cables from an aftermarket receiver or from your vehicle's speaker wiring, so it can work with almost any system. Separate gains and high-pass filters for the front and rear channels let you tune your full-range speakers for optimal tone and efficiency.
Subwoofer love
For the subwoofer channel, a low-pass filter sends the right frequencies to your sub while a fixed subsonic filter tames the extreme low end, so your sub and enclosure will sound their best. A variable bass boost adds some bottom to the mix when you need it, and Lightning Audio includes a wired remote that lets you control the level of bass from the front seat.

Features
Overview: The Lightning Audio L-5600 is part of the LA series of amps are designed for moderately sized mobile audio systems. The L-5600 has Class AB technology for the front and rear channels, and a Class D design for the subwoofer channel. The L-5600 outputs 50 watts RMS per channel x 4 channels plus 200 watts x 1 channel at 4 ohms. At 2 ohms, the amp delivers 75 watts RMS x 4 plus 300 watts RMS x 1. The amp is also bridgeable to 150 x 2 into 4 ohms. The amp comes with three high-level input harnesses, a Remote Level Control, extra fuses, and mounting hardware.
Front / Rear / Subwoofer Controls: The L-5600 is essentially two 2-channel amplifiers, and a mono amplifier, in a single chassis. The amp has separate controls for the front, rear, and subwoofer channels.
Gain Controls: The amplifier has independent gain controls front, rear, and subwoofer channels to match the amp to the preamp output voltage of the connected head unit. The input sensitivity is variable from 150mV to 4V (low level) and 300mV to 8V (high level).
Crossovers: The L-5600 is equipped with variable 50Hz - 250 Hz Butterworth crossovers with a 12dB per octave slope. The front and rear channels each have a 3-way switch for selecting High Pass (HP), Low Pass (LP), or All Pass (AP). The subwoofer channel's crossover is set for low-pass only. The crossover frequency control can be adjusted with a small screwdriver, and has markings at 50Hz, 75Hz, 100Hz, 175Hz, 225Hz, and 250Hz. The crossover sets the upper frequency limit of the amplifier output.
Subsonic Filter: In addition to the crossovers, the L-5600 has a Subsonic Filter that controls the lower frequency limit of the amp's subwoofer output. The Subsonic Filter's cutoff frequency is fixed at 25Hz, and has a slope of 24dB per octave.
Bass Boost: The L-5600 includes a variable bass boost control for the subwoofer channel. This controls allow you to increase the bass response between 0dB and +12dB. The bass boost is centered at 45Hz.
Phase Control: The amp has a Phase switch that lets you change the phase of the subwoofer output. Out-of-phase speakers create mutually canceling frequencies that hurt the sound system's bass response. The Phase switch inverts the "attack" of the subwoofer from 0° to 180°, so you can see which setting sounds best.
Connections: The Lightning Audio L-5600 features nickel-plated screw-down terminals for power and speaker connections. The screws can be tightened/loosened with a slotted or Phillips screwdriver (not included). The amp terminals are as follows:
- Power/Ground: The power and ground connections use screw terminals that are 1/2" wide, and accept up to 4-gauge wire. Based on the 70A fuse rating of the amplifier, a 4-gauge amplifier wiring kit is recommended. A 70A fuse should be placed on the power wire no more than 18" from the battery.
- Fuse: The amplifier has two 35A ATO (blade-type) fuses installed. Two spare 35A fuses are included with the amp.
- Remote Turn-on: The screw terminal for the remote turn-on lead is 0.33" wide. You can use 18-gauge or 16-gauge wire for the turn-on lead.
- Speaker Terminals: Five pairs of screw terminals are provided, allowing you to connect a two pairs of speakers and a subwoofer to the amplifier. The terminals are marked for left and right, front and rear, and sub. Markings for bridging the amplifier's front and rear speakers are not provided on the amp, but can be found in the owner's manual. The screw terminals for the speakers are 0.33" in diameter, allowing you to use up to 10-gauge speaker wire.
- Line Level Input: Three pairs of stereo RCA jacks are provided for the input signal for the front, rear, and subwoofer channels. These RCA jacks are mounted on the "control" side of the amplifier.
- High Level Input: Three 4-pin Molex connectors are provided for plugging in the supplied high level input harnesses. These harnesses allow you to connect a factory head unit, or an aftermarket stereo without RCA jacks. The source unit's speaker wires should be spliced to the high level input harnesses.
