Talk hands-free

Your callers will hear you loud and clear with the CDE-135BT fielding your calls. First, you can mount the included microphone somewhere in front of you so it'll have no problem picking up your voice. Next, the receiver lets you adjust the mic's gain to best match your speaking voice. You can also tweak the phone output and ring volume, so you won't go diving for the volume knob every time someone calls.

When a call comes in, you'll see your caller's phone number on the screen. You can answer the call by tapping the phone button on the front panel, or set up the receiver to answer all calls automatically. If someone else calls in, just tap the "2" key to activate call waiting.

Alpine CDE-135BT

Stream your tunes, too

If your phone or another device supports Bluetooth music streaming, you can beam your tunes and control playback with the CDE-135BT. Alpine's Sound Expansion technology helps your streaming tunes sound their best.

Great for your iPod® and iPhone®

You can use the CDE-135BT's controls to navigate your iPod's music library, thanks to a convenient front-panel USB input. Passengers will love Passenger Control Mode, which lets them play DJ while you focus on driving. And let's not forget about what made Alpine famous in the first place — great sound quality. You can adjust your sound to taste with one of the ten equalizer presets or by using the 3-band parametric EQ.

Want to keep your steering wheel controls?
In most vehicles, you can use an adapter (not included) to connect your vehicle's steering wheel controls to this Alpine stereo. Connect a few wires, then program the adapter for your particular car and the Alpine, and you'll retain the convenience of your steering wheel controls. Check the "Accessories" tab for compatible adapters.

Bluetooth note: Use of this receiver's Bluetooth features will depend upon your phone's Bluetooth capabilities. Learn more in our article explaining Bluetooth profiles.

iPod note: If you're going to use your iPod with this receiver, be sure to check "Details" for specific iPod model compatibility with this receiver or its optional iPod adapter.

I am very satisfied with the alpine stereo I purchased for my daughter's truck. She is very excited to have a good sound system finally.

    Great for the price

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is a great system for the price...the Pandora feature is less interesting than hoped, but you can also connect with any Bluetooth audio source w/o the on unit controls, but works well anyway. Sound is great, good features, pretty easy to hook up. All in all I am pretty happy. The only complaint I would have is that the 'scan' feature on the radio will only stop on really strong signals and the search feature doesn't let you really move through the dial, so it is hard to find radio stations.

    Pros: Price, features

    Cons: Radio tuner

Great radio for the price. I replaced my factory radio with this one and I love it. Awsome sound quality even with my old factory speakers. The bluetooth quality is awsome. I love the USB feature. I don't carry CDs anymore. All my music are on my phone and thumb drive. Easy to install. I would recommend this if you don't want to get a touch screen radio.

Pros: Great price, easy to install, lots of features

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I purchased this stereo to replace a 13 year old stereo that was still working fine. However, I wanted Bluetooth to allow me to couple with my phone. After hooking it up to my existing speakers, I was amazed at how much better it sounded compared to my older system (sounds like I'm in a concert hall sitting in the front row!). It was easy to install (even in my 31 year old mercedes). Bluetooth is easy to connect and couples without issue every time I hop in the car. Not the sexiest faceplate but it has a very intuitive. I've had it for a few weeks now and still love it. Highly recommend this unit. Great bang for the buck.

Pros: Great sound. Solid, well built unit. Easy bluetooth coupling. Very nice sound for the $

    Cons: None so far

Does the job! Alpine receiver with bluetooth rocks!

Anonymous from Honolulu, HI on 7/22/2013

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I replaced an older Alpine receiver with the 135BT because of its bluetooth capacity. This unit gives me the hands-free capability to answer and receive calls on my iPhone 5. We don't have Pandora radio in HI so I can't comment on that. I am very pleased to drive safer via the bluetooth capability of this unit. By the way, the Alpine sound is superb! The Crutchfield representative did an excellent job in recommending this unit.

Pros: Easy installation with an already Alpine harness. It took me about an hour.

Cons: Not a big negative, but I'm not a fan of a CD-Rom manual. Alpine will send you a written owner's manual upon request. I plan on doing that.

    Excellent Head Unit

    2011 Mitsubishi Lancer
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is an excellent head unit, well worth the price. It's at a very good price point to begin with and far exceeds the performance of Sony, Kenwood, and Pioneer. I installed it in a 2011 Mitsubishi Lancer ES with very little effort using an installation kit supplied by Crutchfield. Bluetooth connectivity works flawlessly and the added USB port in the front is a great convenience also.

Pros: Sounds great, easy install, bluetooth connectivity, Alpine quality, great price point!

Cons: The controls aren't what I would consider user friendly. They all work fine and the layout is good but the setup menus and navigation within them is awkward and needs some refinement. Fortunately you will only have to configure it once and hopefully never have to try to mess with adjusting much afterwards. The onboard EQ works great but again falls victim to the awkward menu system makes it difficult to navigate and adjust.

Good receiver overall, but poor BT mic reception

TR from Portland, OR on 7/15/2013

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Like the receiver and and it functioned well accept for the sound quality withe BT micrphone. Everything else worked well and I really liked it. Pairing was easy and it automatically paired after starting the car. Sound quality was good. The problem was people could not understand me. I called my voice mail and listened to myself and it was bad. Tried changing the gain and BT enhancements, but nothing worked. Crutchfield customer service worked with me and finally took the receiver back and I am trying another unit. I am in a noisy work van and maybe in quiet car it might be better.

    Pros: music control! Music streaming

    Cons: BT Microphone sound

    2003 Honda Civic
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Crutchfield advisors recommended me this product for my budget. The installation was a breeze with the supplied instructions. The bracket/fit kit was a blessing. Pricing was competitive with the market. I faced 2 issues during the install which support was able to guide me through. The sound on my factory speakers came to life (though i plan to change the front speakers for better clarity, mids and high frequency notes). I wish i had the money for the HD BT one. The radio FM quality is OK. The bluetooth sound quality is OK. I like how easy it is to browse through Pandora. Bluetooth sync to both my galaxy phones was FAST. Overall great production for the price.

Pros: Great sound quality for uncompressed high-quality MP3s and brought my OEM speakers to life. Bluetooth sync is fast. Phone dialling & receiving is great. Pandora integration is a plus.

Cons: I rated 4 in Sound Quality because Bluetooth sound is just OK (either through BT Audio or BT Pandora). Pandora sound better on my phone through regular computer speakers. I wish the codecs on the unit were better to handle it. I rated 4 on the Build Quality due to the awkward eject button of the face plate. It sticks out and is annoying the first couple of times you look at it. I agree with one reviewer wherein if you want to pause/stop you would accidentally hit the eject button.

Love the Bluetooth and Audio Streaming Functionali from Chino Hills, CA on 7/9/2013

    2002 Honda Accord
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

A small price to pay for a great Tech upgrade. I look forward to driving with the Bluetooth Audio Streaming and Handsfree functionality. (I primarily use it - 95% Audio Streaming, 5% Traffic/News Radio). It's truly a great feature to have and I can't believe I waited this long.

Pros: Sounds and looks great (especially with upgraded speakers). Blue illumination has a coolness factor. I like the single dial. Fairly user friendly.

Cons: Have had a few pairing glitches with the Bluetooth Audio. If you pass the two minute mark after the head unit searches for your phone or change the audio source then later go back to the Bluetooth Audio, I have had to deal with no Bluetooth audio streaming until the end of the drive to shut off the car and restart (or mess with the phone and pair the phone again)-This defeats the purpose of Handsfree Phone. FWD and RWD buttons are small. The Owner's Manual may not give you all the info you need.

Love the sound quality. Like the way the bluetooth works over the radio, I had some issues connecting to my phone. Alpine was little help, but desperate I called Crutchfield and they had the solution. Next time I'll try Crutchfield's customer service department first. They made everything very easy. Good job Crutchfield!

Pros: Looks of radio, ease of installation, bluetooth connectivity.

Cons: Takes a while to get used to the controls.

    Alpine does it again

AustinC from Chattanooga, TN on 6/29/2013

The best thing about this head unit is the build quality. My Kenwood Excelon X-395 head unit is no comparison to it at all. Whereas the Kenwood feels somewhat cheap, the Alpine feels extremely solid and well built. When I bought the Kenwood, it cost the same price as this Alpine. The sound quality is also wonderful. Crisp and clear. Once again better than the Kenwood. The Alpine also connects quickly to my iPod, unlike my Kenwood, which sometimes takes multiple attempts. I also really like the display on the Alpine. It is easy to read and looks much better than the Kenwood's display. The Alpine comes with a hard case for the face plate, but the Kenwood only comes with a soft case. I can't speak for how Kenwood's new line of head units compares to this, but I would imagine Alpine still has the advantage. Where the Alpine falls short is its options for expand-ability. The Kenwood has 6 channel, 4 volt preamps. It is ready to grow with your system. The Alpine has 2 channel, 2 volt preamps. Hardly any room for expanding. To get an Alpine that has 6 channel, 4 volt preamps you have to go on up into the $200 range. But I am sure it would be worth the extra money after seeing how great this head unit is. In Conclusion, if you are planning on building a system, buy the Kenwood or pay extra for a higher end Alpine. If not, then buy this. You won't be disappointed.

Pros: Build Quality, Sound Quality, Features, Looks

    Cons: Expand-ability options

    Compact fully featured.

Pros: I love the sound from Alpine units, through good speakers, and this one doesn't disappoint. Bluetooth features work really well. A really decent value for all the features included.

Cons: Like most recent Alpine units, I don't find the setup very intuitive - but it's something you probably only do once and not often.

Great receiver, Alpine does not disappoint

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Purchased this receiver to replace a cheaper unit I had ordered earlier. I was disappointed with my previous unit. I had gone for a low price but regretted it later. Should have spent the extra cash and gotten the Alpine instead. I'm sure that other good brands have equivalent units and quality products. However, this is my third Alpine receiver and they get better each time. The FM/AM reception is quite good (it sucked with the replaced unit). The bluetooth connectivity is a bonus (although I'm having some problems using it). The front USB connection is great, very handy. I have not tried the mini phone plug yet, but I'm sure it will work well. The iPod support is good and easy to use, I love playing Pandora through the receiver. The sound quality is quite good although I might have to add an amp to drive the speakers to higher sound levels because with the top down it's hard to hear the sound. With the top up in my convertible, the sound is quite loud enough and of very good quality. Installation was straight forward and I am very pleased with my purchase!

Pros: Good quality all around, good sound, stylish, fairly easy to use.

    Cons: none

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Bought this to upgrade the OEM radio in my 2003 F150 Regular Cab. Liked the idea of having BT calling and Pandora hook ups. This radio is AMAZING. The features that it has are so much that I had to actually rate Ease of Use as a 3/5 (honestly there is that many options that it's a bit confusing navigating through all of it). The installation was seamless with the mounting kit and wiring harness that Crutchfield sent with it. Popped right into my dash without any modifications (note here: do not use the ISO mounting option if you want to have access to the wiring behind your unit without taking your dash apart). Wiring was fairly easy just attach lots of colored wires to the same colored wires. Note here: The black "chasis ground" wire and the black and white wire should all be grounded WITH the ground wire on the units wiring harness (it will have a spade on it). To accomplish this I simply wired the "chasis ground" and the black with white wire together and crimped a spade on it then threaded one of the OEM bolts in the back of the din (gold in color and attached to the OEM factory mount) through the spade and attached the units spade to that and tightened. The bolt is a 7MM and is a bit hard to get to but using the area where the vent goes allows for enough room to torque it down. A note on the Pandora BT feature; I was not getting it to work, make sure you start Pandora on your phone FIRST and then switch to BT Pandora. Long story short I am very impressed.

Pros: BT features, Ease of Installation, Quality radio for an economical price!

Cons: Almost to many features (HAHA), Not a huge fan of the mic used for the BT calling. Plugs into the back of the receiver and then has to be "ran" out of the dash and then placed somewhere. It has about 500 feet of cord so it's hard to find a good spot for it.

Replaced the stock radio in my daughter's 2000 Altima. The instructions were very helpful. I ended up not needing the dash kit. I was supplied with two left brackets and no right bracket with the kit. The stock dash pocket fit with the new radio. That was the only hiccup in the whole process. The wiring harness was a great help. Lots of wires but I just had to match color for color. I didn't have to worry about cutting into the original wires. Definetly a time saver and I know very thing is connected correctly. My daughter loves thenew sounds. A great father-daughter project. I like the looks of the radio, it has a factory look to it. The button placement is good too. Easy for the old man to use. Overall, I'm very happy with the purchase and the service

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought this receiver to replace an old Sony receiver in my jeep. Install was an ease. Everything I needed was included in price. Sound quality was astounding, especially over the old Sony. The problem was with Pandora and my iPhone. I couldn't control even basic functions like skip and play/pause as advertised. I never tried pandora with an android. I read the problem lies with a firmware update that's needed. I never updated and sent it back to Crutchfield. They were happy to update for me but I exchanged for a pioneer unit. More iPhone compatible than the alpine, which is geared for android.

    Pros: Great sound

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I purchased and installed this head unit on my 3000GT because the factory CD player had finally failed and I missed playing my CD music while driving. The installation kit provided made connecting the head unit to my factory installed cabling easy using end-to-end crimping connectors. Did have an issue with no sound when first installed, but that turned out to be a problem with the wiring to one of my factory installed speakers. The controls are little tricky at first to get used to, but once you understand the set up, programming AM/FM stations is pretty easy. I plan to use it primarily to play CDs.

Pros: Installation kit cables made hooking the head unit to the factory car's wiring easy. Scanning for AM/FM channels is also easy. I was able to use the factory fixture to install head unit into dash.

Cons: Wished the time of day was displayed even when unit is off, but that is not the case. Unit mus be on and 'view' button pushed to display time on head unit LCD display.

    Great unit for the money!

This unit does everything advertised. Sound is great, it reads folders on my usb stick better than I had hoped it to, and the Pandora integration is awesome (if only I had unlimited data on my phone to use this more often...). Overall though, I am quite pleased with the unit. Looks and sounds great!

Pros: Sound is great, it reads folders on my usb stick better than I had hoped it to, and the Pandora integration is awesome (if only I had unlimited data on my phone to use this more often...).

Cons: The only issues I have are with the interface. For instance, there is no mute button, so to shut it up fast, you have to twist the volume knob, which takes a lot longer. The pause button is not ergonomic, to my mind, and is hard to get to. And since the power button is also the source button, even turning the unit off can take a long time.

Troy from San Jose, CA on 6/2/2013

First, I have to say Crutchfield customer service rep (Doug) is amazing. I've always used factory radio, so never had to buy and install one myself. I gave Doug my truck (1994 model) description with/BT as the main requirement, and he put this package together for me. I'm very satisfied with this. Now, I have great sounds and also hands free, when I'm in my old truck. So I'll definitely come back to Crutchfield again for audio needs. This definitely beats other sites, where I need to find all the needed items myself. It's not that hard, but Doug I didn't have to do anything. Now onto the receiver. It was to my surprised that this unit has a removable face plate, because I didn't find that in the prod description at all. This is definitely a plus and I'm glad, as it will deter/avoid stupid people from breaking in my truck for it. The unit looks very sleek and I absolutely love the blue lighting. The installation was a breeze, thanks to the instructions included. The receiver itself is very easy to use and navigate. My Samsung GS2 paired up with it easily as well. I didn't have to enter any code. Immediately, I was able to make calls. I took off one star because a few areas aren't straight forward, but one can figure it out. Overall, I really love this receiver for my old truck.

Pros: Bluetooth works great thus far for my needs; and the radio face is removable.

Cons: Radio doesn't have option to enable song name and author from the radio stations.

Great balance between value and quality. Has most of the features you would want in a current generation car stereo: bluetooth, ios / Android controls, ability to play from usb drive, etc. If you've had an Alpine in the past decade, the controls are very similar. Sound is good for the price. Great replacement for your stock radio with the improvements you would want.

Pros: Bluetooth, ios / Android controls, usb drive playback, Alpine quality, simple controls, good sound quality

Cons: no HD radio, Pandora controls don't really work with iHeart radio, Spotify or GMusic. Weird that the bluetooth microphone connection is on the rear of the unit (made it work, though). Song ID tags sometimes don't show up until later.

Great sound quality which you can expect from Alpine. Buttons are pretty small along with labeling. The receiver I installed had an old firmware version and we experienced issues with iPhone playback and automatic connecting. I downloaded the latest firmware from and made a big difference. iPhones automatically reconnect via bluetooth and begin playback from where you left off. Also streams artist album and song info to display after firmware update. I had trouble updating firmware because it requires to update over a Bluetooth connection with the receiver from a windows 7 machine. I only had a laptop with Windows 8. It didn't match Alpine's instructions at all. I'm not sure if it was Windows 8 that made the process different than the instructions or if I had an older Bluetooth adapter version. I had to right-click the Bluetooth icon in the start bar by the clock and choose transfer file. I selected the Alpine update file and set the receiver in the update firmware mode and it worked. The only thing I do not like is there is no way to invoke Siri from the receiver. That would be helpful when you keep your iPhone in your pocket or purse. The phone functionality and call quality is great.

Pros: Sound quality, features, Alpine build quality

Cons: Shipped with old firmware and update process not up to date.

Great value, terrific sound, and excellent quality for the price. I give it a 4 for ease of use because I still haven't figured out how to set the clock, and I can't convince it to bluetooth pair with my ipod, but that is probably due to the fact that I haven't carried the manual out to the car! I give it a 4 on coolness factor, because it is pretty basic, not a lot of flashing lights and stuff, but it does what I need, isn't blinding, and has some pretty cool features, like actually showing song titles when attached to my iPod via USB. I love that!

Pros: Inexpensive, great sound, well-built, mostly easy to use.

Cons: won't pair with my iPod over bluetooth. Appears to only want to connect to a phone.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is my first purchase experience with Crutchfield and I cannot be more pleased. This Alpine CDE-135BT was on special and after reading other reviews and comparing it to comparable Alpine and Pioneer units, this was the one I chose. It was easy to install with the supplied and purchased accessories. The most difficult part was routing the microphone wire so it could be hidden (that is one LONG wire!). Once I turned the unit on, I began the process of learning how all the features work. Once I loaded the FULL owner's manual onto my laptop and read it, I was good to go. Most of the features are pretty easy to learn. The only reason I gave ease of use 4 out of 5 stars is due more to my learning curve than the unit itself. Having moved from a radio having 2 knobs and 4 preset buttons to one knob, multiple buttons, and multifunctionality with all of them, it has taken some time. Otherwise, this unit has performed flawlessly. I love the sound quality, clear display, and relative simplicity of design. With so many units (factory and aftermarket) that are just riddled with buttons, the simple design of Alpine's basic products is quite refreshing. I am so happy with this unit and the Crutchfield experience that I would not hesitate to buy from either company.

Pros: Simple design, easy to install, easy to use. Excellent palette of features for the price, even at retail price.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I am quite unhappy with this purchase, mostly with Crutchfield. I wanted a simple unit for my old Rav4 to give me the features that I have with my factory radio in my new truck, mostly Bluetooth. I did a little shopping at a big box store and Crutchfield, and finally decided to call Crutchfield so that I would get some good technical help and get the right unit. I told the salesman what I wanted, and when I mentioned that I listened to Pandora with my iPhone through BT in my truck, he sold me on the CDE-135BT, and told me the extra cost of this unit was worth it because of the Pandora feature. Throughout this process I told him I had an iPhone, and towards the end of this, he checked again and when I told him I had an iPhone, he said great - this unit will work well with my iPhone. So I installed it and got everything to work, except for the Pandora - BT - iPhone part. I decided to read the full installation manual, and it states clearly that this will NOT work with an iPhone. I called the Crutchfield tech support number, and the tech talked down to me like I was an idiot and said that the Pandora feature only works with iPhones if I plug it in. That's definitely not what the sales guy said on the phone when I ordered it. I've placed 4 or 5 orders with Crutchfield, but the 2 times I've bought car audio from them, they've messed it up. I tend to choose Crutchfield over the big box stores for their advice, but with this latest mistake, they have lost me as a customer.

Bought this (rather expensive) unit to replace an original Mercedes radio from the 1990s and I wanted it to blend in instead of stick out like a sore thumb.. I need a amber illumination for this car so the radio can blend in at least a bit. That is why I bought this particular unit. The manual and brochures clearly state that the illumination can be programmed for amber, green etc. After I instaled the unit, I found this not to be the case. Only the blue source button goes "amber" and the rest stays the same red. I also found that the illumination changes to a really ugly blue/purple (independant of the setting) wheenver there is sunlight or bright daylight. The manual states clearly, in several places that the unit will dim the illumination when the car lights are on (orange wire). Now, although my car supports this, this unit does not. There is very small print in the manual stating that this dimming only works if the illumination colours are set to type 1 = factory defaults. That already sucks. However, in pratice, I have discovered that not even that works as stated. Only the blue source button dimms ever, ever so slightly. Nothing else does. The dealer thought the unit was faulty but when testing a 2nd one, he found the same and shrugged his shoulders stating 'I guess that is just what the new models do". I don't like this unit for only these reasons and had I known this, I would never have bought it!! I think the manual and brochures are quite misleading

Cons: Really bad illumination and simming

I bought this unit because I was looking for a Bluetooth solution and I got speakers on sale for getting this particular deck. I have to say it's a nice piece! I have no trouble with my BT connection on my HTC Hero S. I am in and out of my car several times per day and never have trouble connecting on it's own. My only gripe is the search/volume knob. It's TOO SENSITIVE! I routinely press too hard when adjusting the volume which throws you into the search menu. So if you are listening to your ipod on shuffle, hit the search on accident, then back button to get out, your shuffle goes away until you go back into Search and select shuffle all again. A real pain.

Pros: Sound, Look, BT works great for me!

    Cons: The search/volume wheel.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought this as a replacement for my car, and I'm going back to my old Sony. The bluetooth on this unit is terrible. I've used several different phones to attempt to connect, running multiple OS's. Froyo, Gingerbread, ICS, and Jelly Bean, and Blackberry - they all can't maintain a connection. Problem range from taking more than a minute to connect, sometimes having to remove the faceplate and put it back on, restart the car, unpair and repair the phone, cycle through all the sources. Most times, I'm halfway or already to my destination by the time it starts working. Or it'll get through one song on Pandora and then give me a "See Device" error - which there's nothing on my phone and nothing in the manual. Alpine has no firmware updates available either. The usual routine is now 1) Get in, start car. 2) Wait 30-45 seconds for a connection. If you can actually get a connection, 3) cycle through the sources back to BT Pandora, and wait another 30 seconds. If that works, you may get a song or two out of it before it drops the BT connetion. The sound, when it worked, was a little better than my Sony, but nothing to write home about. This is my first Alpine purchase, and will be my last. Crutchfield isn't at fault here either - Alpine is. Crutchfield has been a dream throughout the whole process and will get my money again.

Pros: Sounds good, and when it works, it is really cool.

    Cons: God-awful interface, horrid BT.

Easy setup, clear controls, bluetooth sound superb

    1999 Honda Accord
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

After looking at a number of receivers, I decided on this one as some of the older models there seems to be recent complaints of the bluetooth not working with newer phones due to upgraded protocols. In my 1999 Honda Accord, the install was a breeze - the front panel, unlike our Avalon, was easy to remove, the wire harness was straightforward (I recommend buying the plastic twist connectors rather than soldering and taping), and putting things back together was easy. I would say 30 minutes total (definitely attach the harness and adapter prior to getting things going). Compared to a Pioneer DEH-P6200BT in our Avalon, the 135BT has clearly marked controls, good and simple audio options, and easier overall setup from the menu options. The overall sound quality of the 135BT is definitely better than my stock radio (and the DEH-P6200BT). The bluetooth sound from via my Galaxy S3 is great for both music and calls. I opted to install the mic that came with the receiver (YouTube was great for instructions!) - crisp and clear by reports. The only drawback of the bluetooth is that it doesn't pair super fast (10-30s), and when a call comes in, it takes about 15 seconds for the music to resume (I use TuneIn and Spotify - I have yet to test Pandora). I am thinking about about getting another 135BT to replace the pioneer in the Avalon. Finally, the Crutchfield support staff were nice, professional, and helpful. Thanks guys, will definitely use you again!

Pros: Great sound Easy install Good controls Bluetooth sound great Mic is good (placed on inner area of sun visor)

Cons: Bluetooth paring a little slow (but does not drop) - it may be similar with other receivers, but it is why I am taking off one star. Got the wrong harness adapter from Crutchfield (they were awesome about replacement options)

    Works well

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

All well. Only a single complaint: it only handles one cell phone's BT connection. Other units, even less expensive units automatically switch between multiple phones once they are synced with the unit. If this unit was in our main car, this would have been a deal-breaker.

    Good sound, bad bluetooth

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought this unit primarily for the Pandora control. It paired with my Android phone (Samsung Galaxy S) with no problem.... the first time. The big issue was reconnection, which was supposed to be automatic, but only worked about 60% of the time. The other 40% I would have to mess around with it to get re-synced. Sometimes I would actually get to my destination before I could get Pandora going again. This was a real deal-breaker for me; I ended up returning the Alpine and putting in a Kenwood. Another annoyance was the fact that the button to remove the face was just below the pause/play button, and it stuck out from the face too far. Several times I would try to pause Pandora, but would eject the face accidentally. And then, of course, I would have to hope bluetooth would resync again.... Also didn't like the single-line display; I was constantly hitting the View button to see what song was playing, who the artist was, etc.

    Pros: Good sound, reasonable price.

Cons: Poor bluetooth performance, some awkward button placement.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I finally bit the bullet and ordered a replacement stereo for my accord, which doesn't have an audio input. I got sick of messing with fm transmitters and I even bought aux input adapter hook into my factory radio, which rarely ever worked. I originally ordered a JVC and it was ok but the built quality was really cheap... and the sound quality was horrible. This ALPINE is like night and day compared to the JVC and my stock honda radio. The bluetooth streaming and calling is great, works every time and sounds great. The Pandora is awesome too, makes things really easy and I love having the thumbs up/down buttons right head unit. HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS PRODUCT... Even if your car already has an AUX input.

Pros: Build Quality Easy of use Sound quality

    Cons: None yet!

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The Alpine head units are my favorite, I have them in 3 of my vehicles to date. The sound quality, ease of installation are great. Minor differences in what the instructions say vs what is displayed during set up lowered my rating a little. This is especially true for this unit, as I purchased it specifically for my wife's car as a hands free Bluetooth for her iPhone 4S. It took several tries to pair the units, then the next day there was an error message when trying to make a call. Turned out to be simply upgrading the firmware on the iPhone! Now all is well, sounds great even with the factory speakers in her Ford Escape!

    Pros: Ease of installation

Cons: Alpine directions are generic and a little confusing

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I chose an Alpine unit over the competition's Bluetooth capable units because of the excellent reviews of other Alpine units and the fact that it came with an external microphone. I went with the CDE-135BT over the 133BT due to its ability to control Pandora via the headunit's built in Bluetooth and my g/f's addiction to Pandora Radio (thank goodness for unlimited data). I ordered this receiver and car adapter on Weds afternoon, had it installed Friday afternoon. The install guide from Crutchfield was very accurate for my g/f's 2005 Lancer; total install took ~2 hours. The "hardest" part was routing the wire for the external microphone. Syncing the unit with her phone (Galaxy SII) and mine (EVO 3D) was easy and painless. Phone calls, music and even Pandora worked as described. The in-call sounds were very clear, on both ends. Mounting the microphone on the driver's side sun visor was clear to caller at 70 with windows down or up. The sound quality from the radio, CD, MP3 and Pandora is great, much improved over the stock headunit. This unit's ability to assist in hands free calling makes me feel better knowing that my g/f can concentrate on the road when she needs to use her phone.

Pros: Total Pandora Control from dash; super clear microphone

    Cons: None at this time

    Built-in Bluetooth

Bluetooth Technology (powered by Parrot): The Alpine CDE-135BT features built-in Bluetooth technology (v3.0), powered by Parrot. Parrot is the global leader in wireless devices for mobile phones, for expanded compatibility for many Bluetooth wireless technology enabled cell phones. The head unit's built-in Bluetooth allows you to make and receive phone calls wirelessly through the receiver; as well as stream music wirelessly from your smartphone to the head unit.

Bluetooth Profiles: In order to use Bluetooth wireless technology, your phone must also be Bluetooth compatible and be able to interpret certain profiles. This unit is compatible with the following Bluetooth Profiles:

    • Hands-Free Communication: HFP (Hands Free Profile), HSP (Head Set Profile), OPP (Object Push Profile), PBAB (Phone Book Access Profile).
    • Audio Streaming: A2DP (Advanced Audio Distribution Profile), AVRCP (Audio/Video Remote Control Profile).

Pairing: The Alpine CDE-135BT can be paired to up to five Bluetooth enabled mobile devices (only one device can be used at a time). Due to the differences in Bluetooth technology, some Bluetooth enabled devices may be incompatible, function improperly, or may not support all features when used with the Alpine CDE-135BT. Parrot software updates provide support for future phones.

External Microphone with Noise Cancellation: The included external microphone (with visor-clip) allows you to speak to the other party on the telephone call hands-free, while the other party's voice is played through your car stereo speakers. The external microphone is tuned and engineered to reduce noise interference and feedback. This allows optimal placement in your car, for the best possible sound quality. You can adjust the microphone's volume level; and even mute the microphone, so your voice will not be heard by the caller.

Note: The external microphone measures 0.5625" (diameter) x 1.625" (deep); and features an attached 13' cable terminated by a right-angle male 3.5mm connector.

Receiving Calls: The Alpine CDE-135BT provides a couple ways to answer your phone calls without picking up your mobile phone. Incoming calls are announced by a caller ring tone through your vehicle's speakers (music will be muted) & a Caller ID message across your Alpine head unit's display.

    • Manual Answer: Manually answer an incoming call by pressing the "Phone" button on your Alpine head unit.
    • Automatic Answer: Set the Alpine head unit to answer the incoming call automatically; when a call is received, it is answered automatically after approximately 5 seconds.
    • Call Waiting: If a second call is received during a current call, you can have the first caller wait momentarily while you take the second call. When you are finished with one call, you can switch to the other.

Placing Calls: The Alpine CDE-135BT provides a variety of functions for placing a phone call without using your mobile phone. The Alpine CDE-135BT features full phone book access, call history, voice tag dialing, and redial with compatible phones.

    • Voice Dialing: If you have a voice-dial capable phone, you can dial a phone contact by simply speaking the name of your contact.
    • Phonebook (with ABC search): Up to 1,000 entries (5 telephone numbers for each name) can be downloaded from your compatible mobile phone. You can select the first 3 call letters (ABC) to search for a desired name in your phonebook.
    • Preset Dialing: You can assign phone numbers that you dial frequently to presets (1-6) for quick recall. You can assign up to six frequently called phone numbers. A total of 18 phone numbers can be stored in the preset memory (6 numbers for each mobile phone paired).
    • Call History: The 80 previously dialed, received, or missed numbers can be retrieved and dialed from memory.

Call Switch: This function allows you to initiate the transfer of audio between your mobile phone and your car's speakers.

Text Message Alert: The CDE-135BT can give you a notification on the display with a blinking mail icon indicator for 30 seconds while receiving a text message on your Bluetooth-enabled phone. The mail icon indicator will remain on if there is an unread message on a connected mobile phone. You must still read or create a text message from your mobile smartphone.

Audio Streaming: The Alpine CDE-135BT can stream music from you Bluetooth A2DP/AVRCP mobile device. Not only can it control & stream your music through Bluetooth, it can process your music using its built-in DSP Sound Expansion to ensure you get the best sound. Basic playback functions include - Play, Pause, & Skip (Previous/Next). The head unit will also display your stored music's song information; such as Artist name & Song/Album title. The CDE-135BT also supports audio streaming of music apps on your Bluetooth-enabled smartphone, but without control or metadata. You will continue to use your Bluetooth enabled smartphone to view and control streaming music apps. When an incoming call or outgoing call is in progress from your Bluetooth enabled mobile phone, audio streaming will be paused so you can take your call. Once the call is finished, your streaming music will resume.

Note: Bluetooth Firmware Update v01.27.00 is required for Bluetooth control and song information display from an Apple iOS 6.0+ device.

Bluetooth Sound Quality Adjustments: You can customize the sound of your Bluetooth hands-free experience to fit your own preferences. You can adjust the CDE-135BT's mic gain, phone output, & ring tone volume. If that's not enough, there are 5 sound quality settings to choose from to get the balance just right for you. This flexibility will make your phone calls a pleasurable experience.

    • Volume Adjustments: You can emphasize or weaken the volume level of phone call, the ring tone, and the microphone input to fit your own preference. The Phone Talk Level, Ring Tone, & Mic Gain are all adjustable between -5 to + 5 dB.
    • Sound Types: This unit provides 5 methods to improve the sound quality of your calls. You can choose the type according to your own preference - Type 1 (standard mode), Type 2 (enhances noise reduction), Type 3 (enhances echo-cancellation), Type 4 (enhances both noise reduction & echo cancellation), & Type 5 (weakens both noise reduction & echo-cancellation).

Speaker Output: You can select which car speaker outputs the audio from your Bluetooth-enabled mobile phone/device.

    • All: The audio will be output from all of the speakers in the car
    • F-L: The sound is only output from the front left speaker.
    • F-R: The sound is only output from the front right speaker.
    • F-LR: The sound is output from the front left and front right speakers.

The KTP-445A is compact enough to install behind the Alpine CD receiver. It plugs in-line with the head unit's wiring harness, so you don't even need additional wires.

Switchable Preamp Output: The unit is equipped with Front/SW preamp output, which can be set to either a fading front-channel preamp output or a non-fading subwoofer preamp output.

Subwoofer Control: When the non-fading subwoofer preamp output is activated, you can adjust the subwoofer's volume, low-pass filter, & phase.

    • Volume: There are two volume (system) modes for the unit's subwoofer output.
      • System 1: Subwoofer level changes according to the main volume setting.
      • System 2: Subwoofer level change is different from the main volume setting (0-15); even at low volume settings, the subwoofer is still audible.
    • Low Pass Filter: The unit's subwoofer output low-pass filter can be set to 60Hz, 80Hz, 120Hz, 160Hz, or Off (through).
    • Subwoofer Phase: The subwoofer output phase can be set to Normal (0°) or Reverse (180°).

High Pass Filter: The Alpine head unit is equipped with a high-pass filter for its speaker-level output and front-channel preamp output (when activated). You can set the unit's high-pass filter to 60Hz, 80Hz, 120Hz, 160Hz, or Off (through).
