This radio is okay, but it is not very sensibly documented, and I probably would not by it again.

    Pros: Nice blue LEDs

Cons: I don't like it; very difficult to use, and nothing is clearly marked or makes much sense.

I have bought 5 radios in the last 3 years. 3 pioneer, 1 kenwood and this alpine. All mid level units with blue tooth and hd except the alpine. The alpine although more expensive considering the features appears to have focused on quality and simplicity rather than the corny blinky light show that is overly bright on the other two products. I had to purchase 3 Pioneers to get the current good one.

Pros: Simple controls. No junky light show

    Cons: No HD

I mainly use the TUNER and BLUETOOTH audio streaming. All display is easy to see even when the convertible top is down and sunny. Minor issue but really annoying..... 1. Selecting CLOCK display will overwrite showing any other display on other modes such as BLUETOOTH STREAMING. i.e.When you switch the display to show the CLOCK, then will only show the track number and time when using Bluetooth Streaming. Also if you choose to display SONG TITLE, ARTIST, ALBUM, ETC in BLUETOOTH then it will only show the radio station when you switch to TUNER. Long story short, you can't show CLOCK in TUNER mode and also show SONG TITLE, ARTIST, ALBUM, ETC in BLUETOOTH mode. 2. Even though you have BLUETOOTH paired, it will not reconnect if......You turn the stereo on and iPhone is not set to BLUETOOTH radio, but then you turn the BLUETOOTH on. There is a 3-5 second window where you can. If you miss that window then you'll have to go into iPhone Bluetooth settings and select ALPINE STEREO. This is a super pain. To save you trouble, just make sure you iPhone Bluetooth is ON! Before you start your car.

Pros: Easy install and setup. Adjustments were intuitive. Bluetooth pairs easy. Bluetooth mic is sub-par for clarity.

Cons: 1. Any display chosen in a certain mode will override any display setting on other modes. For instance, you can't show CLOCK in TUNER mode and also show SONG TITLE, ARTIST, ALBUM, ETC in BLUETOOTH mode. 2. Detachment/Attachment hook feature always gets caught! The detachment feature is a pain to "easily" detach. The hook feature always gets hung up. You have to press the detach button and let it "Fling" open. Bad usability design.

This is my second Alpine radio in this car. The first one I bought and had installed locally. It was an HD radio, and man, that was terrible. I don't blame the radio as much as the concept. Here in the mountains it would switch from broadcast to HD and the delay between the two signals was frustrating. I could not find an option to turn off the HD feature. So I decided to buy another radio. I went with this Alpine for a couple of reasons, it was similar to the previous model I had, which made installation a breeze. It used the same connections and parts! It also looks good in the dash, the blue matches the blue of the VW. And it's ease of connection via bluetooth is another selling point.

Pros: Easy to install, looks great, not HD

    Cons: none yet!

I am very pleased with the Alpine CDE 143BT stereo tuner that I ordered from Crutchfield. My son and I installed the unit yesterday and it sounds great. I knew that Alpine would have high quality sound and it didn't disappoint. Installation was not difficult, even for a couple of first time "installers". We soldered the power wires and used butt connectors for the speakers. We had no real issues and we knew if we had a problem the Crutchfield Technicians were just a call away. The next time we need to purchase a tuner we will definitely buy from Crutchfield.

Pros: We could have purchased this tuner from other sources, but we chose Crutchfield because of the Technical Service. They were helpful during the purchase process and we did have to call to have one question answered during the installation (we couldn't get the face plate off of the tuner to remove the Single DIN frame). I also appreciated the videos for each unit and the comparison feature on the website. Those two features also aided in the selection process.

Two thumbs up. One for Alpine and one for Crutchfield. 10 years ago I bought an Apline CDA-9856 cd player/tuner with ipod control for my daily driver - a 2000 Tacoma. Way back then I called and talked to a Crutchfield rep to make the order. I wanted to order 4 new speakers too. The rep. amazed me when he told me to try the new cd player with the stock speakers and wires. Sure enough, he was right. The stock stuff sounded great being pushed by the Apline. Fast forward 10 years and I bought this new Alpine. Install was simple and Bluetooth works great with my iphone, and so do those same old Toyota speakers and wires. Price was very good too. I don't know about you, but when a company rep. advises me not to buy more stuff from him unless I find that I really need to, I want to do business with that company again, and again. Now that I'm hooked on the ease of use of Bluetooth, I'm going to have to replace the stereos in my other cars.

Pros: Great looks, easy to use, Iphone music sounds great over bluetooth and price

    Cons: None here

I was looking for a basic stereo receiver, with built in Bluetooth functionality, and good audio quality. I have definitely found it in this deck. Super easy to install, I had never installed a stereo myself before. Don't waste your money on paying someone to install it. Youtube is your best friend. Worth the money, great audio, super easy to install, and its an Alpine. Enough said.

    Pros:

Cons: Would like to be able to set the volume for the audio, and the blue tooth audio to be the same level. Right now if you are listening to Bluetooth audio or making a phone call and switch to the radio or cd the audio is ridiculously loud!

Great stereo with powerful sound. A major step up from my sony stereo, which was a piece of trash. I will never buy Sony again. Pushing my alpine speakers and 2-12" subs perfectly fine. Although I still cant figure out the bluetooth phonecall microphone to work, but it may just be me. Also, I dont like pushing the buttons when I have to reconnect my faceplate; they should have left an open space that wont cause excess pressure on the buttons.

Pros: Intuitive layout. User friendly faceplate.

Cons: Buttons that toggle folders via usb and repeat options do not light up, so its difficult to see what Im pressing while driving at night. Biggest annoyance: When on bluetooth audio setting, it will not emit sound when i play something off my phone. I have to toggle thru CD, radio, aux, usb, BACK TO "Bluetooth audio" for the stereo to emit sound from my phone.

I'd purchased a cheaper head to provide BT, CD, and USB support. It was a nightmare of unfinished software. As far as I can tell at this point the Alpine does everything right. Tuner performance is good, sound quality is great, all functions work smoothly. The unit is also allows volume balancing of all the source inputs. I have no complaints.

Pros: good tuner performance. allows volume balancing of all source inputs. Uses the car light control input to auto-dim. Great sound quality.

I have a 2001 Mercedes E320 and the radio finally died and I ordered this Alpine to replace it after seeing so many good reviews. What a nice little system this is. I have the Bose sound system in my Mercedes and this radio sounds great. Bluetooth connectivity to it with my iPhone was a breeze. CD sound is excellent as well. I feel that my car has gotten a significant upgrade with the Alpine. The build quality seems excellent. I know you can spend a lot more on a replacement head unit, but this one really does the trick. You even get a microphone included for voice commands and phone calls. And Crutchfield puts everything you need in the box to install and it goes into the existing space with no modifications. Well done Alpine and Crutchfield!

Pros: Feature set for the money Sound quality

The Alpine CDE-143BT was an easy install in my 2002 Tahoe. The wiring connectors and plugs provided hooked with little problem; I just have to use one wire from the smaller GM plug and add it to the radio plug to run the original installed subwoofer. The unit puts out enough power to power the Pioneer and and Kenwood speakers. There is a learning curve figuring out some of the controls. I don't like that when the Ipod is plugged in, the unit takes control of the Ipod and I'm unable to change anything on the Ipod unless unplugged from radio. The blue lighted control area is nice and not distracting. Overall, it's a good quality basic unit with cd player that allows USB or smaller plug accessories.

great product! makes stock speakers come alive to full potential! only thing i would say is a downfall is the bluetooth.sometimes i got to reconnect it to my phone again. dont know if it is bad connection or what. it shows my music playing but there is no sound just i just toggle through to bluetooth again for it to connect.

    Pros: sound. quality.

    Cons: bluetooth could be better

I was looking for a direct replacement with Bluetooth capability and USB. The instructions were pretty straight forward and the install was fairly easy. The two challenges I ran into was (1) the wiring adapter had the [Ignition] and [Battery] pin positions reversed for my application. So I had to remove the pins and reverse them. The stereo will function with them reversed but any saved settings such as the radio stations will be lost every time you turn it off. Even though It is supposed to be a direct plug in, which it probably is for most applications, it was not on my 2004 Sprinter. (2) There is a microphone in the head unit storage box for those of you that want to use your cellphone Bluetooth feature. It was very difficult running the microphone through the factory enclosure as there is no access underneath and you have to feed the wire through a very tight and small area inside the enclosure. After that it was not bad at all. The quality of the sound was immediate and did not disappoint. This is a huge improvement over the factory system and well worth the effort. I later replaced the factory speakers with JBL GTO429 4" 2-way Speakers and installed an older Alpine 5 channel amp I had and some Kicker CompRT 40CWRT672 6-3/4" Dual 2 Ohm Subwoofers and made custom enclosures for them. So far I'm very happy with the head unit and now have a real nice sound system.

Pros: Fairly easy install, very clean sound, lots of nice adjustments and options.

    Cons: None with the unit

    Good stuff...

Am not disappointed at all!! Have upgraded to Alpine head units for over 16 years now, the only head units I will go with!!

This is the third Alpine CDE-143BT I have purchased from Crutchfield. I have one in my wife's Jeep Liberty, one in my Mazda 5 and one in my 97' Suburban. The sound quality is excellent, but what I like the most is the ease of use and fairly intuitive controls. I really dislike controls that require pushing multiple buttons while watching a tiny screen to change mode, source, etc. Having the same unit in all our cars really make it easy to move from car to car and not have to go through a learning curve each time. We also have Sirrius Satellite radio in all 3 cars, plugged into the aux port on the front of the unit. We can then switch the satellite head unit from car to car, which is really convenient.

Pros: Good value, simple controls, intuitive operation

    Cons: none!

Good radio/CD changer for my '95 BMW M3. With the Crutchfield adapter it uses the factory amp which eliminates the need for additional wiring. It sounds good, has bluetooth capability, and fits the dash with no problems. I think it is a little clunky in that it seems to take forever to scroll through the source choices. To go from radio to BT (Android phone), for example, takes several clicks. And the faceplate trim piece seems very flimsy. Overall, though, a great value.

I am impressed with the quality and the functionality of this bluetooth receiver. I have yet to setup bluetooth to connect with my mobile. Routing the microphone wire proved to be less of a challenge because I used a long push button grasping tool to fish the cable jack behind the dash to the radio mic input. That was my greatest worry but it turned out just fine.

Pros: Build quality, ease of switching inputs, sound quality.

These guys have there act together period. The Alpine fit right in perfectly and the wiring harness plugged right in and hooked up in 15 minutes flat and was playing really nice. Somebody before me did the hard work of taking the dash apart and installing the kit for the radio. All I had to do was to change out the Din bracket and was good to go. This is a very nice Stereo with some nice features. All I wanted was to shape the music to my ears. This unit has Bass, Mid range, Treble, Fader, and Balance, along with Sub-woofer and a hos of other stuff I just cant remember right now. This unit is really worth the reasonable price Crutchfield charges. Everything you need is included except the butt connectors for the speaker wires. I love it, and thanks guys, I am very pleased. Sincerely S. Thompson

The unit was hard to get set up. I have not got the Bluetooth to work with my Android phone. The radio sounds ok with the original factory speakers and the wiring harness worked fine. The connectors worked great and the mounting bracket after modification worked out fine. I did not use the Ford Radio key supplied as I all ready had one.

    Pros: It plays music fine.

Cons: Bluetooth set up not clear in instructions or does not work with my Android Samsung phone.

    Not a bad unit

I got this unit to replace a factory unit that wasn't working to well. After installing this unit I realized how the factory unit was weak compared to this unit. The sound is much better and I don't need to crank it up like I had to on the factory unit.

    Pros: Decent sound

Cons: Owners manual is not very good and doesn't really have very clear instructions. Ended up getting a better one at website.

    Perfect exactly what I wanted
