Great sound — for your car

Alpine has built its reputation on producing a stellar in-car audio experience, and the CDE-154BT CD receiver builds on that tradition with innovative technology. For instance, you can download the Alpine TuneIt App smartphone app to your iPhone® or Android™ smartphone and take charge of this Alpine's extensive sound adjustment capabilities. You'll see a simple touchscreen interface that lets you adjust settings yourself, or you can apply settings created by Alpine for your specific vehicle. You can even share your settings with other users through Facebook, and check out settings others have created for your vehicle.

Better Bluetooth audio streaming

Alpine CDE-154BT

The CDE-154BT combines distinctive Alpine styling with a 2-line display.

The CDE-154BT features built-in Bluetooth for hands-free calling and audio streaming. Thanks to receiver's Bluetooth microphone, you can access Siri with Alpine's Eyes Free mode when your compatible iPhone is linked to the receiver — letting you keep your eyes on the road while you interact with your iPhone. If you've been less than thrilled with the sound of streaming audio in the past, Alpine's exclusive Digital Signal Processing technology improves the sound of streaming music or stored music files sent from your device to the receiver.

More sound options

If you're looking to add some punch to your tunes, press the Bass Engine SQ button for easy access to the receiver's sophisticated bass controls, including five bass profiles that you can customize through the Alpine TuneIt App. And if you're tired of having that great FM station fade away, you can add an optional SiriusXM tuner to enjoy the unparalleled variety of music, news, sports, and talk programming that follows you wherever you drive.

Want to keep your steering wheel controls?

In most cars, you'll need an adapter to retain those controls with this car stereo. Connect a few wires, then program the adapter for your particular car and radio, and you'll retain the convenience of your steering wheel controls. You'll see the adapters that work with your vehicle when you add this receiver to your cart.

Bluetooth note: Use of this receiver's Bluetooth features will depend upon your phone's Bluetooth capabilities. Learn more in our article explaining Bluetooth profiles.

iPod/smartphone note: If you're going to use your iPod or smartphone with this receiver, be sure to check "Details" for compatibility information.

    Why replace your factory radio?

Two good reasons - sound quality and cool features. A new car stereo offers power that's superior to most factory radios, along with more sophisticated tone controls. And most car stereos offer built-in or optional features that add safety and fun to life in your car, including inputs for your iPod or MP3 player, Bluetooth connectivity for hands-free cell phone calls, satellite radio or HD Radio reception, and connections for building an audio system in your car.

I bought this reliever to play content from my iPhone 6 but had trouble with the bluetooth connection. If the phone was moved more than a few inches from the receiver, it would stutter and skip like a bad CD. Crutchfield exchanged this unit for the newer 164BT which solved the problem!

    Cons: bluetooth compatibility

I love this stereo it sounds great the details are so good. Even in Bluetooth which usually sucks in audio quality really sounds good not cd good but really good. You can change the display color to different colors its very nice.

Pros: Sound quality and number of uses with usb, bluetooth, cd, mp3, ipod, pandora, xm. the usb is so great to locate almost anywhere

Cons: The screen is a little small but there is not much space to work with anyway.

As usual, great product from Alpine!

Pros: The layout is nice and simple, the interface is user friendly (not complex), great features, build quality is great. The stereo and mic were installed in a semi truck (Peterbilt) and given how much noise there is in the cabin at all times the bluetooth and in coming call quality was good and clear.

Cons: After installing the mic and testing it by making phone calls the other person would here my voice clear but at a low tone regardless of making adjustments on both ends. It would be nice if the mic had more features for outbound/inbound.

great unit with a lot of features for the money. ability to upgrade to a full system with 4v preouts , hi pass filter , sub controls and a great eq app. the only issue I have is the angle the radio mounts in my civic washes the display out in the sunlight (more of a car issue than unit issue). the unit just looks good .

Pros: lots of features. nice Bluetooth system. good looks . plenty of power for a stock system

Cons: display washes out in sunlight. small buttons to access features but with the big displays they all seem to go this route now.

This Alpine head unit has replaced the factory one (AM-FM Single Disc CD) in my 2002 Ford Ranger. No other upgrades were made and yet even with the factory speakers still in place I'm truly amazed with how much the sound quality improved! The only reason I made the upgrade was because the CD player in the factory unit stopped working. Now I simply wish I had done it a long time ago. The music sounds so much fuller and richer now. Details in the music (instruments and voice) have come alive that I didn't know were there before.

Overall I really like the user interface. It is simple and intuitive once you have the basics down. The main dial works kind of like a computer mouse where you turn it either way to scroll up and down through menus and then press it in to make selections. IMO the dial and buttons all have a quality feel to them. The CD player drive is silky smooth and entirely silent when feeding or ejecting discs.

I love the Bluetooth wireless capability for using the vehicle audio system for phone calls. This is something that's new for me and which I had never had experience before. It works flawless with my Samsung S4.

I like the 10 different preset EQ mode options (Flat, Pop, Rock, News, Jazz, Electrical Dance, Hip Hop, Easy Listening, Country and Classical) so well that I haven't even toyed with the 9-Band Parametric Equalizer.

You can choose between 30 different display colors or create you own. I use different colors between day and night driving

Pros: Content from CD auto pauses when a call comes in and resumes where it left off when call is ended. 5 different noise cancelation settings for microphone. Your phone's phone book and call history can be accessed directly through the radio and calls can then be made right through the radio from them. Radio can keep up to 6 phone numbers in memory as shortcuts. Ringer volume can be adjusted and auto set regardless what volume level you are listening to music on. Wish I could comment on more.

Cons: None regarding the Alpine CDE-154BT. The only con I have right now is not being allowed enough characters in this review for a proper review.

I installed in about a week ago maybe two weeks. so far everybody loves it it sounds good easy to tune. I like that you can tune it with the app and that makes it a whole lot easier.

    Pros: Easy to tune,easy install

Cons: Crutchfield don't give you the wiring harness or antenna adopter anymore?

Crutchfield response on June 16, 2015 We absolutely do still offer the installation gear! But you have to tell us what kind of vehicle you have first, so we know what you need. There wasn't any vehicle information on your order. If that ever happens again, just call us when you receive the stereo and we'll look up the installation accessories and get them out to you right away.

All around excellent product. I purchased this to replace my girlfriend's OEM head unit because she wanted the ability to play her iPod/iPhone. I chose this unit for its customization options and obviously its connectivity. I was expecting greatness from because it's an Alpine unit but this was even better than expected.

Pros: -iPhone and Android compatible -Easy install -Awesome sound quality -Settings are easily accessed and navigated -Easily customized (sound preferences and appearance)

Cons: -USB port is in rear of unit (it does come with a long USB extension cord and can be convenient if there is no place to tuck an iPod close to the radio; in my girlfriends vehicle I easily ran the cable into her center console)

The radio exceeded my expectations, the sound is clear. The radio was easy to install. I think this radio well surpasses, the old Honda Alpine factory radio. The radio was way less expensive than the $600.00 that Honda wanted for a refurbished factory radio. This radio has Bluetooth, Pandora and several other options, the refurbished radio was the same old same old, none of the extra options, that the new radio posses.

Good functionality and exactly as expected. Used in a 2007 Honda Odyssey EX-L with the steering wheel control adapter and it works perfectly. BT phone would not pick up sound through microphone. Big pain figuring out it was a quality defect, not user error. Wasted a day and had the unit in and out of the dash multiple times. Crutchfield customer service was the greatest. Easily accessible, competent, quick and friendly. Sent a new unit in 2 days. Works now. Problem was with Alpine. Glad I bought from Crutchfield. Although basic overall, this deck is great. The things I usually look for are 3 sets of high voltage pres, bluetooth, and the sound adjustment options. This deck hits all three spot on. Using the TuneIt app, I was able to dial in the sound perfectly. My only critique is the bluetooth receiver. It's relatively weak. I used to have a JVC deck, and was able to connect within about 20 ft. On this deck, the BT cuts in and out if my phone is in my pocket. No biggie though, like I said, I primarily care about sound quality and ease of functionality, and this deck does a great job.

Pros: Great sound quality and easy to use. The sound adjustment ability is really great.

    Cons: Weak Bluetooth receiver.

This head unit is great but overly complex. The bass button is a waste. The audio button and volume knob when held down do the exact same thing. The menu's are great for customization but expect to spend 30-40min just customizing the settings. The look and feel of the unit is cheap and a bit cheesy, while alpine didn't remove some of the useless buttons like the bass button and make the screen slightly larger, heck they put the usb on the back so they could have plenty of room. Speaking of USB on back why did they leave the aux in up front ? It is a waste of space on the front and when installing this I use a usb port installed in the glove box or elsewhere. It would have been great to have them both accessible but hidden. The tuneit app for android seems to work good, but the minute the car is moving the app locks up the phone. Great safety feature, but that sucks because I am a lot of times the passenger and would like to adjust the sound especially on long trips. I must say the ipod control on this unit is great, super fast track changes. The sound quality seems to be a+, however I am using this with the ktp-445a power pack and a separate amp and subwoofer. The customization of the sound curve is amazing and the multi color display works fantastic, finally a match for the dull yellow Porsche gauges.

Pros: Sound customization is a+++, the 9-band eq is a real eq with lvl, q, and freq adjusts. Very flexible. I the display is clear and the led colors work great.

Cons: looks and feels cheap, alpine could have done a better job laying out the buttons and made the screen larger. A complicated head unit to set up.

This head unit has all the bells and whistles. None of which help with the sound quality. I wanted to get a unit with Bluetooth so I could make a call hands free. The unit I replaced was an Alpine 9856. I have always used Alpine. Since 1980. I play guitar and I had my stereo in my Tahoe sounding like live loud amplifiers. It was clear and thundered my truck. 2 Alpine amps, one for each set of speakers, powered sub and Focal K2 speakers. The sound had substance. You could feel the music as well as hear it. This new unit has lost the ability to deliver live sound and feel. Sure it plays loud and clear but it has no meat. No substance. It is thin. It is air. It sounds cheap. I am returning it. If Alpine can't guarantee as quality of sound, one that reproduces live sound, it is time to find out who does.

Pros: Does anything you want....has all the toys.

Cons: Not the quality Alpine sound they used to be known for.

This unit exceeded my expectations in every way. There is no comparison between the sound quality of my previous head unit, which was a Pioneer deh-15ub, and this masterpiece of a receiver. For a long time, I believed that the horrible sound quality in my car was caused by faulty wiring or improper tuning of my amp and receiver. I couldn't have been more wrong. The culprit was the Pioneer head unit!! After installing this unit, my Alpine subs, amp, and coaxials sound like were meant to sound. The days of distortion, clipping, and constant frustration, are behind me. My amp's gain was set at 75%, now at 50% my mirrors are useless, and the bass is deep and clean. I installed this unit in my car by myself. The installation kit and instructions that Crutchfield supplied (free) were extremely helpful in guiding me through my first car stereo install.

Pros: The sound quality is incredible. All of the features work flawlessly. I found the user interface to be intuitive and it allows for maximum tweaking and customization. The Bluetooth function makes making calls and listening to music effortless. I have a LG G2 (Android) , which has a feature called "Smartshare". This feature allows me to stream, via Bluetooth, any music stored on my phone (Not just Pandora).

Cons: I can honestly say that, in my opinion, this unit has no cons. The only thing I consider a con, has nothing to do with the unit itself. The only frustration I have is with the Alpine Tuneit app, which allows you to adjust the receiver's audio settings through the application on your phone. The app's presets sound decent, but other Tuneit users are able to share their saved settings and you can apply those to your receiver. The majority of these shared tunings sound absolutely horrible.

Can I give it 6 stars?

The Alpine CDE-154BT looks amazing, sounds amazing and does amazing things. It's got plenty of output, plenty of options for audio play. I've got two minor things I wish it did that it doesn't: I wish it would play music from my android phone via USB and I wish it had more playback options as far as playing mp4's and AAC playback. But, I'm just nitpicking, because those are easy to work around. The display colors are awesome. I usually choose different variants of blue to stick with the awesome Alpine-ness of it. But you can choose a bamboozle (?) of colors or make your own colors with RGB. I put music on a flash drive and if I turned off the car playing music from it, when I go back to the car and turn it on, the music starts right away exactly in the spot I left it. Even if I took the flash drive out. The Bluetooth music playback quality is absolutely amazing. The call clarity via Bluetooth is fantastic. I talked to my wife on the phone after I installed the system to test it out and she couldn't even tell I was calling via Bluetooth. This unit makes me love driving again. So while installing the unit, I ran into some power problems with my car and since I didn't have those problems prior to installing, I figured it was related to the unit, so I called Crutchfield customer service. I talked to Daniel S. and he helped me to fix the issue, which was a vehicle issue, yet he made calls and researched the issue to figure it out, even tho it had nothing to do with the HU.Thanks!

Pros: Options for everything. Love the TuneIt app. It looks awesome.

Cons: Doesn't play mp4's or AAC files. No android playback via USB.

Ok first of all it's an Alpine. I have had Kenwood, Pioneer,JVC, Sony and Alpine. I had wanted the 147bt to begin with but ended up getting the 141 to start because of price which was a great starter HU. Then got a great deal on Pioneer deh x8600bs at a local shop here in my home town. They had quit making the 141 and 147 Alpine at this time and the 149bt was the Alp HU to get but the price was a bit much for single din though worth every penny. I really like the Pioneer 8600bs great HU but Alpines just have a certain sound and umph to there units. Well I saw this 154bt on sale and they sold out quickly. Saved it in my cart and came available at a decent price. A steal this HU is way worth it especially at this price point get you won't be dissatisfied. I can't say anything negative about it only doesn't have HD radio but not a deal breaker for me. Alpine is still at the top of HUs and has been for years.

    Pros: All is good

    Cons: No HD radio

Had a hard time pairing my galaxy s4. But called Crutchfield and they helped me right away. Settings are confusing but I got used to it after messing around for about 30 minutes. I have been using Alpine for over ten years and this HU is definitely one of my favorites.

Pros: Bluetooth is the main reason I bought this unit and it works great. Ability to match the HU color to my trucks interior lights is awesome, looks like it came stock with my truck. Alpine tune it app is great. Works even better with the KTP 455a power pack.

Pros: Nice sound Bluetooth, USB, AUX

Cons: I laughed at a few reviews on stereos that said "a little complicated for new stereo owners", thinking it would be easy to understand. I was wrong. With so many different tuning options it's really quite complicated. However this shouldn't hold you back at all. Absolutely amazing stereo!

    Pros: Easy to install

Cons: had to trim the car's stereo cover to fit the knob - not a big deal.

Installed this unit along with the KTP-445A mini amp into a 2006 Toyota Tacoma (Access Cab). Sounded very good even without the additional amp, but when I added the amp the sound was even better. Still using the factory speakers for now but will eventually upgrade those as well. The bezel and wiring harness were included in the price, and they made the installation a breeze. I found a few videos on YouTube that covered the microphone install and the radio and amp install. When using the KTP-445A (as opposed to the KTP -445U) with an Alpine head unit, the amp installation is 100% plug and play. The bezel needed a tiny amount of filing to get the clips to seat properly, but it only took a minute. Looks factory installed and absolutely no rattles or vibrations from the dash. Overall I'm very pleased with everything and glad I bought it from Crutchfield as their deal included everything needed for the installation. I also contacted Cruthfield support before connecting the wiring harness with a question. The person that answered my call was extremely knowledgeable and very helpful. Overall an excellent experience.

Pros: Great sound, easy to install yourself

Cons: Bezel required minor filing on order for the mounting clips to seat onto the posts properly. Really not much of an issue and only took a minute to file the excess plastic off the ends of the mounting posts.

This unit is very nice! It exceeded my expectations by a lot. Sound quality: The sound quality on this head unit is amazing. The highs are clean and crisp. I had this unit powering the speakers full range for about a week before i put the sub in and i must say it does a very nice job powering them without distortion. if you have a smartphone and use the tuneit app it allows you to adjust virtually everything when it comes to sound. very handy to use instead of digging through the menu of the head unit. Ease of use: Yes you will have to read the manual if you want to be able to navigate the menus of the unit but as soon as you know what you are doing it is super simple. Look: It looks very nice in my dash. It almost looks as if it is supposed to be there. it also has the ability to set it at literally whatever color you want. nice touch. Bluetooth: The bluetooth can be figity every once in a great while. I would say once every 15 times I get in the car it wont automatically connect to my phone (have to go to phone menu and manually connect). The call feature on this thing is amazing I've been told by people that I sound clearer than my phone which is nice. Overall it is a very nice unit and give it all stars.

Pros: Great sound Easy to use once you read the manual Looks really nice Great call quality

Cons: Bluetooth will occasionally not connect to phone automatically.

Installed in a 2003 Honda s2000, which is a very small car with a tight fit. Signitifcant upgrade over the stock receiver both in terms of sound and features. The unit is very customizeable, but due to the small form factor, that also means that you have to play around or read the manual to figure out how to navigate and find all of the options. Power seems to be average, but will probably be adding a small amplifier in the future. The Bluetooth integration is simple and works everytime.

Pros: Great sound Tuneit App Android Integration Illumination Display options to match rest of car

This stereo head unit is packed with features that quickly set me to wondering why I took so long to purchase the unit in the first place. The sound quality is excellent and installation using the Crutchfield supplied factory harness kit was all it was advertised to be. Just follow the directions and take your time.

Pros: I had my doubts about how it would look after it was installed in my 05 Accord, but once I finished it looks and sounds great. I really like the iphone tunit app that this unit is able to take advantage of.

Cons: I would recommend adding an in line amplifier or a 4 channel amplifier along with this head unit as the supplied wattage isn't enough to write home about. I bought this unit to replace a defective factory stereo unit because it was less expensive to go the aftermarket route. However, the unit is not as powerful as the factory stereo and really does need a small amplifer to boost the sound a bit. Other wise its all good and would have gotten 5 stars.

This is a fantastic head unit. I needed something that had great screen contrast, as I despise when I can't see the text against the background. The background on this one stays nice and dark so the text really pops out. Big plus. The Sirius integration and bluetooth work really well, no problems using either.

Pros: Screen clarity, ease of installation, bluetooth streaming from my Droid Maxx, big easy to press buttons and volume knob.

Cons: Tuning. The head unit menu for tuning is a bit difficult to use, a lot of the advanced features are buried deep in menus, which can get frustrating. HOWEVER, if you can use their TuneIt phone app to tune, this resolves that issue.

That head unit was exceptional! I am a typical college student who likes great loud sound with a lot of bass and that is exactly what this stereo offered. The controls take maybe a week to get used to so you can do everything without looking at it. But the iPod, pandora and fm radio are excellent and the subwoofer control feature is the best. I listen to almost every genre of music and I like the bass heavy with dubstep and very little for some acoustic rock and it is easy to change. I haven't even had this product for a year yet so I can't rate the build quality that well but I haven't had a single issue.

Pros: Louder sound than stock More input options Bluetooth with voice control w/iPhone Excellent sound clarity Display color changes to match any car dash Has subwoofer controls

Cons: Confusing to install in 2001 honda civic (also partly the kits problem) Can get a glare sometimes on the display Can't see track title and time together.

Mounted in 2008 Lexus RX 350, and with the provided trim kit, it looks like a factory install. Sound, even with stock speakers is just so much more nuanced and clear. Took a couple readings of the owners manual, to catch on to menu system, but I am just amazed at what is packed into this head unit. BT works like a charm, calls are loud and clear on both ends, and the Alpine TuneIT 2.0 app is amazing... I prefer a clean neutral sound, and the parametric equalizer helped me get very close to a flat response curve... even with those stock speakers.

Pros: Clean look, quality of sound, parametric equalizer

Cons: Install is not for the feint of heart, but incredible tech support talked me off the ledge several times, and we got it right the first time.

I've had a lot of Alpine headunits over the years starting with a 7863, and then 7977, 105, 9886, and 9887. Besides the 105 the others all sounded exceptional. You were always able to impress with the sound quality of those models. The 154bt is mediocre at best. I would never in my life believe that a Kenwood could sound better than a comparably priced Alpine but the ddx371 I exchanged it for is on a different level. Ive been into car audio a long time and Im very confident to say if you're considering this headunit dont get it. The Pandora worked ok but had frequent issues, the bluetooth phone volume was extremely loud compared to what your listening volume was so until you remember to turn it down before answering you get blasted. The FM tuner was weak, The Sirius XM sounds like there was a blanket over the speakers. This was just a flop for Alpine. Hopefully the next generation models get better.

    Pros: Pandora

Cons: Sound Quality was 6/10 compared to older Alpines, The button to move backwards in the menus would stick every time you pressed it and then loudly pop out

    Great stuff

I first ordered the Pioneer MVH-X560BT MP3/USB All Digital Car Stereo Receiver that offered pretty much the same functions for my 2002 Mercedes E320 W210 Wagon. I was replacing the OEM radio. Purchased everything I needed, the Metra 70-1786 Radio Wiring Harness and Metra 40-VW12 VW Antenna Adapter. After 8 hours and still no sound from my Bose speakers I sent the Pioneer radio back to Amazon. I ended up getting this head unit and it only took about 15 minutes to connect the wires and everything was up and I could hear the sound of music! It took the same exact wiring harness and antenna adapter as the Pioneer but this receiver had the port for the Bose amp unlike the Pioneer. I lost the steering wheel controls but I tickled pink with the bluetooth capabilities for music and phone calls. I am considering getting the PAC SWI-CAN2 and PAC SWI-RC wiring harnesses to get my steering wheel control back.

In regards to setup, you will need to do some playing around on your own. The manual is very basic. I had to figure out about the illumination and some of the other features by trial and error. I am still trying to figure out if more than one smartphone can be paired at once without having to turn off the bluetooth on one of the other phones in the radio's vicinity.

Calling and receiving calls can be heard crystal clear. Handling the calls can be done by the phone icon button or by the "go back" button. The phonebook is automatically loaded and the names are displayed in large font. Scrolling through the phone options like missed and received calls, phonebook and calling out are done through the volume/selection knob.

You can also download an app called TuneIt. Here is the explanation I found online since the manual was so vague:

"TuneIt is an easy-to-use sound tuning app which also offers Facebook notifications. Users download the free app onto their iPhone® or Android(tm) smartphone and create a user profile with information about themselves, their vehicle, and their Alpine sound system. They can follow the simple TuneIt graphical instructions to adjust sound settings for their specific vehicle, or they can choose from the 3, 000 pre-made settings in the database. Settings that can be adjusted include Time Correction, Parametric EQ, Crossover, and Media Xpander. The user can make and save up to 100 different sound settings; which is helpful if the user wants to store various settings to use for specific types of music.

Users can share settings with others, as well as rate settings made by others. The sharing and learning aspect of TuneIt is especially helpful for novices without much sound tuning experience, since it allows those with similar setups to use the same settings for the best results. The more frequently the user is active within the app, the higher his or her status progresses, from the "Roadie" level all the way up to the advanced level of "Master Golden Ear." TuneIt's sound setting activities are all done through

Pros: Purchase of radio comes with wiring harness (Crutchfield.com) Not too many buttons making it user friendly Change color illumination Smartphone TuntIt feature Facebook notification Two line display text Steering Wheel Control input

Cons: Siri Eyes does not respond well Manual is vague

Installed the unit in a 2003 2500HD Chevy with the Bose System. This was a very easy install with the adaptor I purchased for the Bose System amplifier and speakers that stayed in place. If you can read a wiring diagram it is a simple matter of connecting the two wiring harnesses together. It then becomes plug and play. The Alpine sounds so much better than the factory unit it is a pleasure to listen to. I just installed it yesterday so I am still playing with the controls. My HTC One paired up with no trouble, also my wife's I phone 5. So far all in all a good experience.

Pros: Great Sound compaired to the factory unit.

Cons: Having to buy and use an adaptor.

After a month of looking at head units I decided on the cde-154bt mainly for features and my local stereo shop assured me of excellent SQ. This unit is replacing my faithful pioneer deh-p6800mp which i loved i just wanted up to date features and retain SQ. This unit sounds amazing considering I'm still adjusting to adjusting the eq from the unit and from the tuneit app.

Pros: Great SQ, loaded with features like bluetooth, pandora, and it's the only brand of head unit compatible with android devices! Plus it looks great its clean and simple face with two line readout.

Cons: Remote sold seperately! EQ settings are confusing. Remote sold seperately! EQ settings are confusing. REMOTE SOLD SEPERATELY!

I've been wanting to upgrade my deck in my truck for some time. Finally decided to go with the CDE-154BT, despite not having reviews at the time of purchase. I am very happy with it. Lots of features packed into it. Like a previous reviewer mentioned, the cd that came with the unit has a lot more in depth explanations than the actual manual that's in the box.

My previous deck was an Alpine iDA-X305. Although I loved it, I really needed a Bluetooth capable deck, and something compatible with my iPhone 5c. A major plus, I didn't have to use the wiring harness that came with the unit and the one that I had to purchase from Crutchfield! I just unplugged the old deck, ran the microphone wire, and plugged in the new deck. Simple! I'm gonna have to thank Alpine for utilizing the same harness from previous models.

My only gripe, the back button sticks. I have to manually dislodge it after each press.

Pros: Easy installation if you have an older alpine unit Lots of sound shaping capabilities Separate source volume settings Ease of use

    Cons: Back button sticks

Very high quality unit. A bit hard to configure all the functions, it helps to be familiar with Alpine units. This replaced a Sony unit in my 2001 Chevy Tahoe, and is a much better unit.

Cons: A bit tricky to program.

Overall I'm relatively happy with this radio. For a Single Din Radio I think I purchased the best currently out there. You may want to consider just the single display line model, the dual display helps some but is not leveraged as well as I would have expected.

Pros: - Extensive Manual on PDF File -Extensive settings options for audio, bluetooth, etc. -Pandora works through either USB connection or Blue Tooth -The phone app is pretty cool for controlling the radio settings, -Playlists are accessible through Blue Tooth (many radios can change playlist from the display) -Most common features have bigger buttons -Menu's show you "most common" features first then you drill down to the details settings, so something like balance or base level is adjusted e

Cons: - Some of the less used buttons feel very soft, like they might be sticking or are of poor quality, however no worse then other single din radios. - Printed Manual is limited -No online FAQ or information yet -Dual Line Display is not used to full effect, I'm not sure it was worth the extra $40 for an extra line that isn't used. For example in order to have the time displayed, you have to give up having any information displayed about the audio that's playing (Song title, etc)

Great head unit. Have to mess with the Bluetooth sometimes. But it always works. Had to get an interface with mine. PAC makes a terrible interface. It blew within a week. Overall great stereo only downfall is that I was excited to use the tune it app but the cde154bt isn't on there but it is tune it compatible.

    Built-in Bluetooth

Bluetooth Technology: The Alpine CDE-154BT features built-in Bluetooth (ver. 2.1+EDR) technology. The head unit's built-in Bluetooth allows you to make and receive phone calls wirelessly through the receiver; as well as stream music wirelessly from your smartphone to the head unit. In order to use Bluetooth wireless technology, your phone must also be Bluetooth compatible and be able to interpret certain profiles. This unit is compatible with the following Bluetooth Profiles:

    • Hands-Free Communication: HFP 1.5 (Hands Free Profile), HSP (Head Set Profile), OPP 1.1 (Object Push Profile), PBAB 1.0 (Phone Book Access Profile).
    • Audio Streaming: A2DP 1.2 (Advanced Audio Distribution Profile), AVRCP 1.4 (Audio/Video Remote Control Profile).
Note: Due to the differences in Bluetooth technology, some Bluetooth enabled devices may be incompatible, function improperly, or may not support all features when used with the Alpine CDE-154BT.

Secure Simple Pairing (SSP) + Auto Pairing (for iPhone): With Secure Simple Pairing (SSP), you can easily pair a Bluetooth enabled phone to the Alpine CDE-154BT without having to enter pin codes or go through complicated settings. When a registered Bluetooth device is in close proximity to the receiver, the auto connection function automatically pairs the two units. You can register up to three Bluetooth-enabled devices with the Alpine head unit (only one device can be used at a time). You can also pair your Apple iPhone (iOS 5.0+) by simply connecting it to the Alpine head unit via USB and following a single prompt on the head unit's display.

Hands-Free Communication: The head unit supports Bluetooth hands-free communication for your Bluetooth enabled mobile phone (including iPhone & Android). The controls of the CDE-154BT can be used to dial a number, answer an in-coming call, or end a call. The unit also includes an external microphone, so you can carry on your side of the conversation while listening to the caller through your vehicles speakers. During a conversation, you can initiate a transfer of audio between your mobile phone and your car's speakers.

    • Receiving Calls: The Alpine CDE-154BT provides a couple ways to answer your phone calls without picking up your mobile phone. Incoming calls are announced by a caller ring tone through your vehicle's speakers (music will be muted) & a Caller ID message across your Alpine head unit's display.
      • Manual Answer: Manually answer an incoming call by pressing the "Phone" button on your Alpine head unit.
      • Automatic Answer: Set the Alpine head unit to answer the incoming call automatically; when a call is received, it is answered automatically after approximately 5 seconds.
      • Call Waiting: If a second call is received during a current call, you can have the first caller wait momentarily while you take the second call. When you are finished with one call, you can switch to the other.
    • Placing Calls: The Alpine CDE-154BT provides a variety of functions for placing a phone call without using your mobile phone. The Alpine CDE-154BT features full phone book access, call history, voice tag dialing, and redial with compatible phones.
      • Voice Dialing: If you have a voice-dial capable phone, you can dial a phone contact by simply speaking the name of your contact.
      • Phonebook (with ABC search): Up to 1,000 contacts (5 telephone numbers for each name) can be downloaded from your compatible mobile phone. You can select the first 3 call letters (ABC) to search for a desired name in your phonebook.
      • Preset Dialing: You can assign phone numbers that you dial frequently to presets (1-6) for quick recall. You can assign up to six frequently called phone numbers. A total of 18 phone numbers can be stored in the preset memory (6 numbers for each mobile phone paired).
      • Call History: The previously dialed, received, or missed numbers (20 each) can be retrieved and dialed from memory.
Note: The external microphone is tuned and engineered to reduce noise interference and feedback. This allows optimal placement in your car, for the best possible sound quality. You can adjust the microphone's volume level; and even mute the microphone, so your voice will not be heard by the caller. The external microphone measures 0.5625" (diameter) x 1.625" (deep); and features an attached 13' cable terminated by a right-angle male 3.5mm connector.

Audio Streaming (w/ Advanced Music Navigation): The Alpine CDE-154BT can stream music from your Bluetooth A2DP/AVRCP mobile device. Not only can it control & stream your music through Bluetooth, it can process your music using its built-in DSP Sound Expansion to ensure you get the best sound. In addition to basic playback functions (Play/Pause, FF/RW, Skip, Random/Repeat), the CDE-154BT provides a Search List of your stored music by Playlist, Artist, Album, Song, Genre, etc.. (AVRCP 1.4 phones only). The head unit will also display your stored music's song information; such as Artist name & Song/Album title. The CDE-154BT even supports audio streaming of music apps on your Bluetooth-enabled smartphone with limited control and song/artist information. You will continue to use your Bluetooth enabled smartphone to control advanced music navigation.

Note: When an incoming call or outgoing call is in progress from your Bluetooth enabled mobile phone, audio streaming will be paused so you can take your call. Once the call is finished, your streaming music will resume.

Bluetooth Sound Quality Adjustments: You can customize the sound of your Bluetooth hands-free experience to fit your own preferences. You can adjust the CDE-154BT's mic gain, phone output, & ring tone volume. If that's not enough, there are 5 sound quality settings to choose from to get the balance just right for you. This flexibility will make your phone calls a pleasurable experience.

    • Volume Adjustments: You can emphasize or weaken the volume level of phone call, the ring tone, and the microphone input to fit your own preference. The Phone Talk Level, Ring Tone, & Mic Gain are all adjustable between -5 to + 5 dB.
    • Sound Types: This unit provides 5 methods to improve the sound quality of your calls. You can choose the type according to your own preference - Type 1 (standard mode), Type 2 (enhances noise reduction), Type 3 (enhances echo-cancellation), Type 4 (enhances both noise reduction & echo cancellation), & Type 5 (weakens both noise reduction & echo-cancellation).

Speaker Output: You can select which car speaker outputs the audio from your Bluetooth-enabled mobile phone/device.

    • All: The audio will be output from all of the speakers in the car
    • F-L: The sound is only output from the front left speaker.
    • F-R: The sound is only output from the front right speaker.
    • F-LR: The sound is output from the front left and front right speakers.

    Disc & USB Playback

Disc Compatibility: The unit features a single disc player that will playback CD-Audio and finalized CD-R/CD-RW audio discs. The unit also supports playback of MP3/WMA music files loaded onto CD-R/RW discs.

Rear-Panel USB Port: The Alpine CDE-154BT features a rear-panel USB (type-A) port attached to the rear chassis by a 9" cord and includes a 5' USB extension cable. The USB port enables connection of a portable USB mass-storage class (MSC) devices; such as select Android smartphones (Froyo/Gingerbread OS only), portable digital audio players, or USB thumbdrives. The USB port supports audio playback and control of MP3/WMA audio files stored on these portable USB mass-storage class devices. USB portable audio players that can be charged via USB will be charged when plugged into the CD receiver's USB port (max. 1A), and the vehicle's ignition switch is set to ACC or On.

MP3/WMA Playback: The Alpine CDE-154BT supports the following types of MP3/WMA files recorded onto CD-R/RW disc or loaded onto a USB mass storage class device.

    Media Type CD-R/RW USB MSC
File System ISO 9660 Level 1/2, Joliet, Romeo FAT 12/16/32

Tags ID3 tags (ver.1.0/1.1/2.2/2.3/2.4), WMA tags

Text/File/Folder Search: When you are playing a disc or USB device with ID3 or WMA tags, you can easily search for a track, file, or folder by its title. Once you have activated the search mode, you can use the rotary encoder to quickly scan through the titles to locate the desired track. For discs and USB devices without ID3 or WMA tags, searches are made using the track numbers associated with each song.

Playback Modes: The Alpine CDE-154BT offers Repeat and Random playback modes.

    • Repeat: Repeat Play (repeats playback of current track/file), Folder Repeat (repeats only files in current folder).
    • Random: Random Play (all tracks/files on disc are played in random order), Folder Random (only files in current folder are played back in random order).

Off Insert/Eject + Auto Reload: A CD disc can be inserted or ejected with the power off. When a disc is inserted with the power off, the unit will automatically power up and begin playback. When a CD is ejected and left sticking out of the CD slot for 20 seconds, the unit automatically reloads the CD to protect if from damage.

Angle Mounting: For proper CD playback, Alpine recommends mounting the CDE-154BT no more that 35° above horizontal.

    iPod/Aux Integration

iPod Direct Connection: The Alpine CDE-154BT's rear-panel USB port can be used to connect your 30-pin dock connector or Lightning-connector iPod/iPhone to the head unit. The CDE-154BT supports audio playback, music navigation, information display, and charging of your compatible Apple device.

    • 30-Pin Dock Connector: If you have an older iPod/iPhone with a 30-pin dock connector, you can use Apline's KCU-445i dock connector-to-USB cable (500KCU445I, sold separately) or the dock connector-to-USB cable that comes with your Apple device to connect your iPod/iPhone to the CDE-154BT.
    • Lightning Connector: If you have a newer iPod/iPhone with the Lightning-connector, you can use Alpine's KCU-471i cable (500KCU471I, sold separately) or the Lightning-to-USB cable that came with your Apple device to connect your iPod/iPhone to the CDE-154BT.

Note: The head unit's USB connection provides 1A of current to power and charge your connected iPod/iPhone when your vehicle's ignition switch is set to the 'ACC' or 'On' position (if your iPod/iPhone has no initial battery charge, then the unit will not recognize it).

Music Playback w/ DAC Bypass: The Alpine head unit supports audio playback of stored music and music apps on your iPod or iPhone. The USB connection allows your iPod/iPhone's stored music and music apps to be loaded instantly to the head unit and sound quality to be maximized through the head unit's 24-bit D/A converter, allowing for a Signal to Noise ratio up to 105dB.  You can operate your connected iPod/iPhone via the head unit's front-panel controls or from your Apple device's clickwheel/touchscreen.

    • Head Unit: The Alpine CDE-154BT lets you navigate the stored music on your iPod/iPhone by Playlist, Artist, Album, Song, Genre, Podcast, Composer, Audiobook, or Genius Mix. You can then search these categories alphabetically (A-Z). For especially big music libraries, the Percentage Search function uses the preset buttons for quick jumps to specific parts of the list (Preset 1: 0-16%, Preset 2: 17-32%, Preset 3: 33-49%, Preset 4: 50%-66%, Preset 5: 67-82%, Preset 6: 83-100% of the song library). The head unit also offers three Shuffle playback modes (Album/Song/All) and one Repeat mode (song). Newer iPhones with iOS 6.0+ allow you to continue to use your Apple device's touchscreen to access music apps; older iPod/iPhone devices will be locked during connection.
    • App Direct: In App Direct Mode, you can navigate the stored music on your iPod/iPhone device through its clickwheel or touchscreen; as well as music apps on an iPhone (iOS 3.0+). Basic playback functions, such as Play/Pause and Previous/Next Track are still available from the head unit. Not all apps will be compatible with this mode.
Note: Access to your iPhone's downloaded applications will depend on the availability of a cellular and/or WiFi network for purposes of allowing your iPhone to connect to the Internet.

Song/Artist Information: The Alpine CD receiver will display your iPod/iPhone's music file information in Head Unit or App Direct Mode. The CDE-154BT will display Track Number, Elapsed Time, Artist Name, Song/Album Title, and Station Identification for stored music and music apps.
