Why replace your factory radio?

Two good reasons - sound quality and cool features. A new car stereo offers power that's superior to most factory radios, along with more sophisticated tone controls. And most car stereos offer built-in or optional features that add safety and fun to life in your car, including inputs for your iPod or MP3 player, Bluetooth connectivity for hands-free cell phone calls, satellite radio or HD Radio reception, and connections for building an audio system in your car.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I was wanting to replace the stock cassette player in my 99 Toyota Tacoma, after shopping on the Crutchfield website, I decided on the Alpine 9843. I couldn't have made a better choice. The sound quality is no comparison. I didn't know the stock speakers could sound so good. The radio reception is way beyond stock. With the directions and installation kit supplied, the installation was a snap. The only way it could have been easier was if someone did it for me. I highly recommend the purchase of the Alpine 9843. Excellent quality for the price.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I decided to replace the factory stereo in my '99 Toyota Corolla as I wanted a CD player to replace the "outdated" cassette deck that mine had. I chose the Alpine CDE-9843 for the price, name and features. The sound quality difference is surprisingly noticeable. Lots of nifty features and an easy to use interface. Installation was quick and painless (the wiring harness that Crutchfield gives to everyone is a Godsend.)

Nitpicks? Well...I actually think my FM reception might have been a LITTLE better in the older receiver, but other than that, this thing is fantastic.

A quick word about Crutchfield...I've been a customer on and off since the 1980's and have never had a bad experience. They may not always be the cheapest...but good customer service before and after a sale can be well worth the few extra dollars, and with Crutchfield the service has always been top-notch.

This product was a great replacement for the stock radio in my 1997 Jeep -- what a great improvement! Installation was a breeze... being my first install, I had a few questions that Crutchfield took care of over the phone (thanks, Grant!). Great support!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

what a pleasant experience it has been dealing with Crutchfield. We ordered an Alpine CDE-9843 for my wife's 2004 impala a couple of days ago. First of all what great prices, the shipping was super fast, and crutchfield sent me everything needed to install. I mean everything! The instructions were great! I had a few questions and called tech service, [thinking there is no way someone is going to answer at night]
But the technician did and answered every question I had. The instructions for removing the dash and installing "for my specific model car" made the installation a snap. Oh how much money we saved by not having to go to a stereo installation shop. The Alpine CDE-9843 has everything you come to expect from a quality cd system.
Thank you so much crutchfield and my wife loves her new Alpine stereo!
Keep up the good work !

i drive a '94 ford f-150 pickup truck and the previous owner did a really bad job installing an aftermarket head unit and equalizer. the cd-player never worked and the radio only worked half of the time. after yanking out all his handy-work and installing my own, i was blown away with the sound quality and amazing display of my new alpine head unit. fantastic, and for the price, you really can't beat it.

I bought this for my father for Father's Day. Crutchfield sent everything I needed like usual. It didn't take long at all to put it all in and listen to the music. It sure sounded much better than his factory radio. The controls were very easy to learn and program. This has everything you could want in a basic receiver except for satellite radio. Alpine is a trusted name in car audio and I am very pleased with the receiver.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I've rarely ever reviewed products I have purchased, if it's really bad, I will usually get it out, however for this product, I must share my happiness.

I have had an Alpine deck in my car for probably about 10 years, yes the same one. The CD player portion finally died so I was looking for a replacement. I'm sold on Alpine from the life of the previous unit.

This deck had the essential features I was looking for, and well within my budget. The unit arrived in a very timely manner, instructions for a swap out included, these may be potentially a little confusing for someone that has never replaced a deck, though after review, I installed it. The only problems I had run in to were those that were directly due to a professional installation from years ago. I know Alpine has great sound, but was still blown away at an even higher clarity than I'm used to. I still have the original factory speakers, and it sounds great.

I would highly recommend this unit to anyone looking for an intuitive deck with great sound for a very affordable price.

Awesome

Wow is all I can say. This unit is by far the best I have seen. I now own the best stereo out of all of my friends. The sound is incredible! A massive improvement from my stock stereo. The stock speakers sound like they have been upgraded. I bought this product because of all of the excellent reviews and it is definitly the best bang for the buck! Alpine all the way! Installation was fairly simple also, slighty complicated since I have a Daewoo Nubira, a foreign car. But, it was fairly simple nonetheless. If you are considering buying this unit, every penny you spend will be worth it. High quality product

I bought this unit based on the reviews. The installation couldn't have been easier in my 2000 Jeep wrangler. It took about 20 minutes to connect the harnesses and 15 minutes to install it. It looks great! It sounds great with the factory speakers! I get many more radio stations than the factory unit!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought this cd player mostly because of all the great reviews here. I had a pretty decent mp3/cd player (a Kenwood with the infamous ribbon cable defect)--it was a nice receiver, so I was not expecting the Alpine to be much better. I was wrong! The Alpine totally blows away the previous one. I'm amazed at how good the system sounds.
Installation--not bad on my 91 Toyota pickup. Had to remove alot of stuff, but the directions were good enough for the job. First time I've installed this sort of thing.
Overall, I'm EXTREMELY happy with the receiver as well as the price I paid for it.

This is the 2nd Alpine Radio I have owned, and true to its reputation, Alpine remains my favorite radio. Controls on this one are simple and easy to navigate. The radios reception is beautiful. Oh, and the best part? The CD player is even better than the radio! The price for this was great from Crutchfield too!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I have been planning on a new audio for my car lately. I came to crutchfield, did a little research and ordered Alpine CDE-9843 for my 1997 Maxima, with Kenwood Speakers.
This player is loaded with features an excellent value at this price point. I am hearing my music the way they are meant to be, hearing so many nuances lows, mids and highs which I have never heard before.
Crutchfield Mastersheet was good and had clear instructions, but due to lack to patience & time I ended up getting it installed by pros.

If you are still wondering what to buy, I would say just buy this Alpine 9843, you would be happy for a long time to come.

Highly Recommended. Excellent Player.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Installation was very straightforward and Crutchfield supplied the necessary wiring harness to hook up to my existing oem harness. Had to call the helpline for one question and they resolved my problems in an instant! Stereo is far better than my stock cassette deck with large easy to read display.

The additional free dash modification kit that came with ther eceiver fits like a glove and was a snap to install with a minor modification of the existing console. I have never installed or done any type of wiring work on my car which is a testament to the good set of instruction as well as customer service that came with this stereo. No complaints here!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Alpine quality at an unbeatable price. I wasn't expecting alot when I first installed this unit, as I was still using the stock speakers in my 1998 Jetta. What a difference! The features and quality of this unit can't be matched. The sensitivity of the receiver is awesome. I live in an area where reception can be very poor at best, and the Alpine pulls in stations that I couldn't get with my stock receiver. The service from Crutchfield was superb. After placing my order, I could go online and see the owners manual and install instructions before the receiver even arrived. When it did arrive, I was already prepared and familiar with the install procededure and it was a snap. I will never buy car audio from anyplace else. It's just not worth it.

Overall the most sterio for the money. I listen to lots of radio and this has by far the best reception of any I've every had. The buttons on the face are also in the best possition for easy access. Everything you need is right there and you don't have to go through lots of menus to get there. I also like the dimming feature when you turn your lights on. My last CD player was annoyingly bright. Chrystal clear sound and all the right controls. A++++++

I would recommend this player to anyone!!!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

You know I was told that I would have to replace the entire system including the speakers for my 2001 Nissan Maxima. I installed this Alpine and was more than impressed with the sound quality/clarity this cd/mp3 player had to offer. I have a BOSE speaker system and I didnt think it would sound good. It sounded better than the factory cd player and might I say it looks way sweeter with my black leather interior - it was just perfect. This was the best for the price that I wanted to pay and it by far exceeded my expectations. This is my first Alpine and it certainly isnt going to be my last. And as far as installation - Im not the most savvy when it comes to electronics but I just followed the directions CRUTCHFIELD gave me and I was done in 40 mins! Also the delivery was right on - ordered Sunday - got it on Thursday.

Thanks CRUTCHFIELD for this awesome product, and for no brainer installation instructions.

I installed this unit in my 96 Camaro. The original equipment was a DELCO II with a Bose system so I wasnt expecting too much of a change. Boy was I wrong. I couldnt beleive how strong this unit sounded. The highs are very crisp and it has great bass. Easy to adjust and simple to install. I had never installed a head unit before so I was skeptical on if I could even do it. It was easy and cruchfield made it great with the master sheet and added harness. Looks professional! Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This a great CD Player. I ordered it on a Monday and it got here on Thursday. There was free shipping and it came free with all of the necessary equipment. The directions were kind of hazy on the part of wiring the thing, but I called Crutchfield's toll free number and their service was beyond helpful. When I was putting the bracket on the bottom, I didn't read it right and I forgot to take the front plate off. I called again and they pointed me in the right direction, again helpful as can be. When I got it in and I turned it on and the speakers were blaring, I knew I had me a great system.

Very, very happy with it!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I installed this receiver in a 96 Accord to replace the factory tape deck. I wanted an MP3/CD player, but I couldnt spend a lot of money. Im also really picky.

-picking out the receiver:
in the $100-150 range, theres at least a dozen brands and models. I went to a retail store with an MP3 CD and tried out all the models they had for about 5 minutes each. If I cant figure out how to use a feature in the first 5 minutes, Ill never use it when im actually driving. This was enormously helpful, and its the reason I picked the Alpine. One deal-breaker I noticed: one brands models had to reread the CD whenever I changed to the radio and back.

-Ordering + Installation: I probably saved $25-50 over buying it and the kit locally or having it installed. Ordered on monday, received on wednesday. Installation was easy with Crutchfields impressively detailed instructions. some soldering was required for the wiring harness.

-Use:
I love it, it sounds great with my factory speakers, its easy to navigate folders and files, and its loud enough that I can hear it clearly on the highway with all the windows down.

-Nitpicks:
The unit will display filename OR title OR artist (or a bunch more) but not any combination of fields. Youll have to edit your mp3s to be consistent. I recommend a freeware program called MP3Tag, its great.

The mute button works for the radio and CDs, but the pause button only works for CDs. Also the mute button is inline with the radio presets and I occasionally hit it when im trying for a preset.
--
I love it. I would definitely buy Alpine again.

Bought this for my wife's Corolla. She originally had a tape player and this was a big step up. Sounds were crisp and clear, even from the factory speakers.

The HU is well made. Feels sturdy and buttons didn't feel flimsy. Alpine is legendary for how well they play CDs, even ones that are heavily scratched. Simple yet effective.

Crutchfield comes through again. I have purchased many items from them and they always get it right. Harness and instructions were spot on. Installed within 15 minutes.

Thanks

Great sound experience. I had no need to buy a new set of speakers, factory set sounds amazing with this head unit. It is easy to use and navigate. This is the first time that I buy an Alpine product and I tell you I will buy another one again.

You can't go wrong purchasing an Alpine head unit. Easy to use buttons. Durable, well-crafted, easy to use detachable face. Came with 1 pre-out. I don't care much for FADE because my speakers are balanced anyway. I got mine for $130, awesome price for a high end brand.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I'm not much of a DIYer, but I was able to do this installation mostly fine on my 2000 Toyota Camry. I had to look a bit at both Crutchfield's sheets and the manufacturer's booklet to make sense of it all, but I was able to understand what I was doing. Removing the trim piece on the car was the biggest hassle, and because I was not careful I broke it a bit. I was expecting a bit better sound quality over the stock unit, and it was there. I would say the biggest difference though is how touching the unit feels/looks, especially over my cheap stock unit. I think $130 for just that feel is reasonable. Quite pleased with my purchase overall. Took about an hour to install it.

I upgraded the stock head unit in my 2003 Toyota Corolla. The shipping was fast and everything was packed well. The kit was a perfect fit in my car and looks like it came from the factory! I am very impressed. Installation was easy with the instructions provided. Be advised that you will need to solder the wiring harness together if you're hooking up a Corolla (don't worry, no perminant change to stock wiring). It was easy to do. Just compare the wiring chart on the top of the radio to the wiring map that Crutchfield provided. In 20 minutes, you're set. It took me 1.5 hours from start to finish to install this in my car. Sounds amazing and easy to use!

Best Sound System I have ever installed!

Written By Juan, RTP, NC on Thursday, March 09, 2006

I don't know whether it was this radio, the new speakers I added to my order, or both. Crutchfield added all of the mounting brackets and wiring harnesses needed to fully mount the system. Install was easy given the wiring diagram. It took me about 5 hours to install the system but that included the speakers. As soon as I popped in my WMA/MP3 cd, I heard what music should sound like! This included the bass, treble, vocals, and once hidden rhythms I did not know was a part of the song. I have great commutes to work now.

Perfect addition to my car!

This stereo is definately worth the money. It looks perfect in my car. I enjoyed installing it as much as I enjoy having and using it. I love the carrying case for the detatchable face unit. That, and the wiring adapters that fit snugly onto the old factory one - for free!! Great quality sound in my little corolla; I am using 2 small front dash speakers and some cheap sub box I got for 25 bucks, and I get great crisp sound in my car. I don't even have an amp, nor need one. It will make you love your car even more, haha.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is a great unit for the price. I replaced the stock FM/Cassette in my Ford Ranger. I had been using a CD Walkman with a cassette adapter and it finally quit working so I decided to replace the unit. I just wanted a decent sounding unit without a lot of bells and whistles.
Installation was great with all of the provided tools, harness and directions. Only two minor items kept me from giving a 5 star rating. The unit does not indicate the radio station name or song information. I thought all new radios did this, but this may be one of the bells that I don't really need. (You can manually input the station name for each button you set). And, the next track button is easy to hit accidentally when adjusting the volume. (The newer models may have a slightly different layout.) The bottom line is, this unit sounds much better, even with my stock speakers, on both radio and CD than my OEM unit. Its a real value for the price.

I just installed this unit in my 2006 Caravan (I know....but it's a free company car) and man what a difference just with the stock speakers. It is very intuitive to operate even when driving and the display is readable in bright light. The thing I like most is the way that you can adjust the band width of the bass and treble to customize your sound. It has a rich full sound for only $125....it's better than hoped for. Crutchfield always does a great job of install instructions and wiring harnesses. This is my 4th unit from them and won't be the last.

Excellent In-Dash Stereo

Written By Robert, Newcomerstown, OH on Tuesday, February 28, 2006

I bought this as a replacement for my wifes 92' Lumina factory stereo. This was actually my first experince with Alpine head units, but, it won't be my last. I am very pleased with this unit.

The MP3 features were great for such a budget radio. The bass engine does exactly what it says it will. The bass fills the gaps, even with the factory speakers still installed. (That will be a project for another day)

The scroll display for cd text is fabulous and easy on the eyes. I really like the feature that allows the user to enter text for radio stations.

Bottom line....My wife is happy and speaking to me again! Just kidding. This is an excellent unit for the price!!! Definately recommend this product.

I recently needed to replace my car's factory cd player, and went with the Alpine CDE-9843. The instructions and wiring harness were extremely easy to follow and install. The entire installation took about 30-40 minutes. Sounds so much better than what I had, and the price was right! I only wish my speakers were better...I guess they will be the next thing that is replaced.

Outstanding head unit for those on a budget.

Written By Ryan, Auburn Hills, MI on Monday, February 20, 2006

I have always been a big fan of Alpine products, especially their head units. However, it has been years since I have purchased any aftermarket in dash units, so I was skeptical as to how the quality may have diminished over the years; seeing that the price of car audio gear has really dropped, while the number of features on the products has risen. I figured that a drop in price combined with more features resulted in poor quality. But boy was I wrong. The CDE-9843 has performed flawlessly, so far. Packed with plenty of features I need, while maintaining a quality look and sound. And for a fraction of the cost I used to pay for head units with half the features. Solid 5 Star product, Alpine!

Duh. I wish I hadn't waited this long to buy an Alpine. What a deal. Checked the big boxes, local shops, none of them compared to Crutchfield's deal! I've owned several Sonys since 1990 and was never impressed the the tuner section, Mobile ES included. The tuner on this Alpine is better than my factory deck was, which is shocking by itself. I like the simplicity of the controls. Aesthetically pleasing face plate as well. I couldn't have spent $129 on anything and recieved the enjoyment I get from this Alpine. Combine with the ease of doing business with Crutchfield, it doesn't get any better.

yeah i bought this deck for my 98 chevy cavalier and it sounds so much better than that factory radio. i didnt know how much the sound was gonna improve until i had my buddy install it. all my cds that i burn from off my computer work perfectly. but when i turn the volume up really loud the system shuts off and resets it self. im guessing that is because i need to get rid off those factory speakers. the installation was ok only because the previous owner tampered wit the car a little bit and i had to pretty much take apart the whole front dash. this is a phat cd player for the price.

I recently purchased the alpine CDA-9843, and the set-up took about 30 minutes, My Ford F-150Supercab sounds like a Super sound box. I could not beleive what a difference that cd-player made with stock speakers, I'll probably go into a dream state when I install the Alpine SPS-570A's. Kudo's to Crutchfield!!!! I will be a lifetime customer from now on.

Great reputation for a reason

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

As always, Alpine has put out another great product. For this price, you just can't beat it. My car(2004 Subaru Legacy Sedan) still has the factory 6.5's in it. And this Alpine CDE-9843 makes it sounds like a theatre! I do have the Alpine MRP M350 amp, and a 15" sub to accompany it though. If you are looking for bass control for your sub/amp, this is the way to go. The only thing I wish this thing had is a mid-level control.

A Perfect Blend of Performance, Features and Price

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The CDE-9843 has a great sound with my 6x9 triax rears and 3" front factory speakers. I use a vintage but still-ticking Crutchfield amplifier for the 6x9's. This tastfully attractive unit is simple to operate with intuitive controls. The single preamp out was a bit strange in that it was tied to the front channels instead of the expected rears. That was easy to work around by just reversing the front-to-back wiring. It's not a big deal to adjust the fader when the word "front" means the rear and the word "rear" means the front. The FM reception is well above average in the sometimes troublesome rolling hills of the Northeast. The display is easy to read even in sunlight. If you want a simple, great-sounding, uncomplicated and aethestically pleasing unit then this will fit your needs.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

What can I say? This might be the best online purchase I've ever made. Not only does the product kick butt, but the whole Crutchfield experience was great. Delivery was on time. The paperwork that accompanied the shipment was incredible. There were a few items backordered and that was handled well. The unit itself is a great replacement in my 2000 Camry. The extra pocket added below the unit (supplied by Crutchfield) fits perfectly. The factory unit had a cassette deck in that space so this pocket adapter is necessary. It truly looks like a factory install. The sound of the 9843 is excellent. Lots of nice features. The fact that it plays .mp3 tracks is great. Burn an .mp3 disc and have 110-120 tunes on a single disc. Who needs a multi-disc player? The lighting is great with several display options. Scrolling, etc. The preset buttons are a little on the small side but it's a smalll adjustment to make. The detachable face plate removes and reinstalls easily. A nice carrying case is included for it. The included wiring harnesses make this install idiot proof. Really easy if you can follow a basic diagram. I highly recommend this product and the install. With the CDE-9843 it's only a matter of time before I'm back to buy some speakers as well. Crutchfield makes it all very easy.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Great car stereo and super fast delivery! Installation was a breeze and I'm not mechanically inclined. I love the controls on the stereo. They are quite intuitive and easy to use. The sound quality is wonderful. I have a long commute to work, about an hour one-way. My daily commute is much more enjoyable with the Alpine stereo because I can listen to audio books and MP3s now. I am extemely satisfied with my Crutchfield purchase.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought this unit as a Christmas gift for my wife to put in her '97 Prizm. The installation was great and went very smooth. I had all the necessary adapters/filler plates to complete the job professionally. I would recommend soldering and using shrink tubing for a neat, compact job. I'm very impressed with how well this unit sounds compared to the factory unit using only the factory speakers. I have no plans to change the speakers unless something were to happen to them. My wife is more than pleased at the ease of use and the sound quality. The only modification I made was to the silver trim ring that snaps over the detachable face. The factory bezel on the Prizm covers about an 1/8" per side of the trim ring so I used a dremel to notch the trim ring for a perfect fit. I wouldn't change a thing if I had it to do over again. I'm very satisfied with this purchase and installation, so is my wife and if she's happy, I'm happy! Thanks Crutchfield!

Alpine CDE-9843

Written By poppinwillys, Crestview Florida on Thursday, January 05, 2006

I bought this head unit to replace my 5 year old kenwood because it stoped reading cd's as good as it once did.(no complants though). I got the alpine for christmas and but it in my 86 F-150, replaced the stock door speakers with some decent pioneers, hook up an alpine m-350 amp to two mtx thunder 4000 12's along with two home souround sound speakers behind my seat and now I have one of the best sound as systems as far as qualitly goes. This head unit is so simple to operate, you can tune the bass and treble perfectly and with ease. I love the fact I can turn my sub up and down from the head unit two. No matter what you buy with the alpine name on it its garunteed to be great, and you can really tell a difference with this head unit over anyothers. Another plus is the fact that you dont need a run an amp for you mids and highs with this unit. I dont know if its because of my door speakeres but I can shut all my doors and windows and hear the the mids and highs 30 yds from my truck. Not to mention the bass from the subs. Everything is extrememly clear. If you looking for head unit go with and alpine wether it's this one or something else. Its just all around awsome.

Just Great!!!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

It has been 14 years now since I first bought a replacement for the factory stereo. Back then, my friends had Alpine and when I heard the sound quality, there was no question that I also needed to have an Alpine (cassette) player.
One week ago, I again decided to buy a replacement for my factory stereo - and there was no doubt that this one would be an Alpine, too. It was my first purchase with Crutchfield and the experience was simply amazing. Not only did I get the device delivered for free (mind you!!) but I also got the entire installation kit for my car.
The installation was done in about 90 minutes without any problems. The Master Sheet I got from Crutchfield helped me with the initial steps. Everything else was just "kids-play."
When I first turned the CDE-9843 on, I could not believe the reception this thing had: I found a radio station on every .2 increment. Then I inserted a MP3 disc and I was blown away by how easy it was to handle everything. The titles were displayed without any problems (although I realized that the CDE-9843 displays the entire title once and then just shows the first 8 characters of the file name for the entire duration of the song) and the sound quality was plain awesome - even with the factory speakers.
I am extremely satisfied with Alpine and I would always recommend it; but this time, I would also tell everybody to get it on Crutchfield.com, because this service is extraordinary.

THIS THING ROCKS!!!!!!!!!!!

I replaced my factory system and knew the sound would improve but I wasn't aware of just how much. I can hear stuff in the music that I didn't even know was there. I replaced all 4 speakers with Kenwood KFC-C1739ie. I can turn it all the way up and there's not a drop of distortion and it is loud. And I don't even have a sub or amp. If you buy this you will be very happy. I guarantee it.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I installed the Alpine CDE-9843 into my 2001 Dodge Ram quad cab to replace the factory infinity head unit. Simply amazing is the first word that comes to mind. The install was mindlessly easy and the sound that is now coming from the factory speakers is incomparable to what the factory head unit could produce. I highly recommend purchasing the Alpine CDE-9843 from Crutchfield so that you can get the install kit and wire harnesses needed. I am absolutely happy with Crutchfield and the Alpine CDE-9843.

Nothing Short of Awesome!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

After weeks of research, I stumbled upon Alpine (kind of forgot about them) again. I chose this deck mostly due to reviews mentioning excellent AM and FM reception, and of course what I needed and wanted in terms of features. Anyway, I could not find such comments about the other major head unit mfg.s anywhere. Well, it is certainly true. Not only does this deck pull in every FM station out there, it also picks up every AM too. In fact, there are stations I didn't know exisited, as someone else had mentioned, on both bands!

The sound quality is outstanding. I can't believe how well these 8 year old OEM F-150 5x7's sound. For crummy old paper cone junk, the seperation and clarity is nothing short of amazing. I was going to get some Polk DB570s, but not sure I will get them now as I would never want to leave my truck.

As for Cruchfield, their prices may not be quite as competitve as other e-tailers, but they easily close the gap by offering free shipping, free install kit, free wiring harness, free detailed instructions, full factory warranty (questionable with other e-tailers), and more tech support than any one needs or wants.

I am 100% satisfied. Apline and Crutchfield both get an A+!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

installed in '03 ranger xlt, replaced din-plus size stk unit.

noticeably better sound, even with stock spkrs. pulls in more fm stations, too.

only "i wish" 's- the blue lites were dimmer (even "dimmed" they are too much) and the preset buttons were bigger (so i could actually see the secondary function of the switch, this is something most hu's probably suffer from).

install info/kit great. one thing though- before you start hooking up anything, give a slight tug on each wire in the adapter plug. the power wire pin in mine wasn't properly captured in the plug, and i spent lots of time trying to figure out why the set wouldn't work before i found that the pin would move back when plugged in.

Purchased the CDE-9843 for it's MP3 capabilities. Installation was pretty simple with easy "clear" instructions with all the plugs and harnesses included for FREE. I installed it my 2000 Nissan Frontier with the stock speakers. As soon as I turned it on(after a 50 minute installation) it was incredible the difference in clarity and tons of extra power. It made my stock speakers sound like I had some bose speakers. All the controls are easy and the MP3 features all really nice and simple. Awsome stereo!!!Buy it now!!!

I ordered the Alpine CDE-9843 as a scratch & dent and could not believe the quality of the receiver. It was just like brand new but I didn't pay a "brand" new price for it. Also, the installation was extremely easy! Crutchfield send the wiring harness for my 1990 Honda and the kit that I needed. Took me about an hour and I have never installed a car radio before!
Thanks Crutchfield

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Purchased the Alpine CDE-9843 CD unit for my son's "96" Honda Accord EX. Called service rep on Saturday 7/16/05 and the unit was delivered this morning, 10:00am, 7/21/05. With the Crutchfield removal and installation instructions, I had the new head unit install within 1 1/2 hours. The 1/2 hours was because I misplaced one of the screws and had to find it.
This unit is great. It made his aftermarket speakers sound so much better. And the bass..... Fantastic! Anyone looking for a great CD unit at a great price, try this one!
Crutchfield, great service, great products, and great prices.....Thanks!

all i can say about this reciever is OH MY GOD! big changes!! i updated my speakers with alpine speakers and put in dynamat, but the sound from the stock radio was still ok. after i installed the new one, it was like i wanted to stay in my truck all day!! even better quality than what you hear on headphones!

the crutchfield install papers were a tad confusing, but otherwise, it was a breeze. the custom wiring was easy as making brownies!

the service was awesome.

this reciever is awesome and really matches my truck nice!

for anyone, get this reciever and you wont be sorry!

A Step Up

Written By James, Phoenix, AZ on Wednesday, July 20, 2005

I recently purchased a new CR-V. The factory unit was just awful. No treble or bass to speak of and I could barely hear the rear speakers. Replaced the factory unit with this Alpine. This was not my first choice. I wanted something to match the interior. After spending time on this site and looking at the reviews as well as costs, I choose the Alpine. The Alpine is a very good unit. I can now listen to the factory speakers without cringing. What is interesting is that at only 16 watts, I can hear both sets of speakers with no problems.

I picked this unit also for the FM sensitivity. As compared to the OEM unit, I can now hear all of my favorite stations and I found a couple of new ones I wasn't aware of.

My only complaint is with the install. The instructions that came with the plastic mounting assembly was confusing and in several instances just wrong. If I had followed the instructions, I would have ruined the mounting assembly. Good thing I did a dry fit just to see how it sat in the openning.

I give the unit 5 stars, but the installation only 3. So an average of 4.

This is the third time I have purchased from Crutchfield and had an excellent experience every time.

Awesome Receiver for the price!

Written By Jeff, New Hampshire on Thursday, June 23, 2005

This Receiver looks and sounds great, has a well thought out and easy to use design, but is not short on features.
Perhaps the best thing of all though is that I bought it from Crutchfield!
The usual fantastic Service!
Received the unit in no time at all with a free wiring harness that matched my Toyota Camry precisely.
(Not to mention the free easy to read installation instructions for my exact vehicle).
Was SO easy on this particular vehicle, I was listening to Music within an Hour.
I not only highly recommend this receiver for those that want a nice unit and don't want to refinance the House to get it, but Crutchfield is second to none for service and reliability!
I've been a Crutchfield customer for years, and will be a returning customer for years to come!
Great Receiver and an excellent company to deal with!!!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This Alpine installed easily with Crutchfield's instructions, and it sounds great! Highlights are: Decent power without the need for a separate amp (can get pretty loud with a nice clean sound), nice & easy to read display, easy to use controls (quick access to treble, bass, balance and fading), and it looks great sitting in the dash! I'm most impressed with the clean sound I'm getting with only the built-in amp.

Sounded real good with the stock speakers in my vehicle (much improved over stock system), but I just replaced the rear speakers and let me tell you - you can get some real nice bass with the right combination of this Alpine and good quality 6 x 9's!

I feel I made a great decision purchasing this unit, and Crutchfield is top notch offering great installation instructions, free harness and install kits, and fast shipping!

I ordered this on a Wednesday morning, and it arrived in Chicago on Friday. Great service from Crutchfield. Installation was a little difficult in my VW Beetle, but only because of VW's radio bay/compartment.

Once installed, the Alpine brought new life to the factory VW speakers. Highs are noticeably clearer, and lows are pronouced but not shallow.

Replaced my factory installed stereo with Alpine because of their reputation. They did not disappoint me. Terrific sound comes out of this player. And man, it was so easy to install on my Toyota. And Crutchfield technical support is simply the best! I called them because I had a doubt regarding conecting one of the cables, and they answered my question within 10 seconds. No joke. Great CD Receiver! I had changed my factory speakers out when I had my factory radio but never really knew what they sounded like until I bought this receiver. Having a built in amp is awesome! It is by far the best that I have ever owned, I'll buy Alpine from now on. Produces crisp highs and hard bass. Not too expensive either. A+++

I had updated my speakers in my car, but the results were minimal. After buying and installing this Alpine unit, night turned to day! Big bass with super highs! I bought it from the Scratch and Dent shop - It just didn't come in the original box and I saved $20. Great tuner section! Now I can get that oldies station out of town that I could only hear with my home system. Plays my MP3 CDs with no problem and with great clarity. Am I happy!! :)
