Why replace your factory radio?

Two good reasons - sound quality and cool features. A new car stereo offers power that's superior to most factory radios, along with more sophisticated tone controls. And most car stereos offer built-in or optional features that add safety and fun to life in your car, including inputs for your iPod or MP3 player, Bluetooth connectivity for hands-free cell phone calls, satellite radio or HD Radio reception, and connections for building an audio system in your car.

The liltle things matter

Written By Spilly85, Missouri on Monday, August 17, 2009

"Alpine". That should say a lot. Overall the unit is good, plays all the CD-R and formats I need and sound is good also. I expect quite a bit from Alpine and that's why I'm disappointed in 'the little things'. These little things are small nuisances at first and get an initial "huh" but once the new wears off these become a real annoyance. The most annoying, Inserting/Ejecting a CD interrupts the radio, is one small example that makes you ask the question "Why?". What QA person said, "Ehh, it's not that big of a deal".
I do have to brag on Crutchfiled while I'm here. I've dealt with them since the early eighties and they are FAR above any electronics outfitter I have ever encountered, professionally and personally. Your support staff is one huge part of it. Keep up the great work and thanks to Crutchfield for taking the time to notice the little things.

Sound quality blows away my previous factory head unit.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought this unit to replace the factory CD player in my '96 Chevy Monte Carlo.

Sound quality is a great deal better than the factory unit, the sound spectrum seems to be distributed much more evenly across the board, even with the same set of speakers. I ran the preamps to an existing amp and 8" sub in the trunk, and I really like being able to adjust the bass crossover frequency from the unit rather than switches on a discrete crossover unit.

MP3 disc capability is great, I love now being able to stack my system with tons of my favorite tunes and not have to constantly swap discs.

The only downside, occasionally the scrolling marquee freezes when in MP3 title display mode, scrolling through the modes or changing tracks often works around this though. Not a big deal considering the play quality is unaffected.

Would definitely buy from Crutchfield again, the pre-sales consultation and installation assistance were invaluable.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Have experience with many head units over the years; this is my 1st Alpine. For what it's worth, the following is worth noting:
1. The face plate exhibits a terrible glare which makes it nearly impossible to read except during nighttime or very cloudy days.
2. There is no "Scan" feature for the tuner.
3. You cannot display both the clock and the tuner frequency or call letters at the same time; you have to choose one or the other.
4. The auto dimmer feature only dims the 4 large buttons on the left side, and then only very slightly.
5. The user manual is pretty much useless in terms of the installation instructions, e.g., it recommends a metal strap and screws to support the rear of the radio however, those parts are not supplied with the radio.

Unique Feature: This radio has a Female 3.5mm stereo Aux input jack on the rear. This means you have to install a Male 3.5mm stereo cable into this jack during the radio installation (since it isn't accessable after installation) and route the cable to the front of the IP for your accessary (IPOD, satellite radio ,etc.). This is not as convenient as an Aux input on the front of the radio.

On the plus side, this radio has very good sound, flexible settings, and a clean install since there are not many wires on the rear (no CD changer cable, no RCA cables, etc.) I would rate this radio higher if it had a more legible display.

Forester Install Tip

Written By Neonwater, Calif on Wednesday, April 19, 2006

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Very good as a replacement for my 06 Subaru Forester. Better sound and reception, not to mention mp3/cd capability and iPod connectivity via a $4 mini plug cable.
I liked this model so I can control the iPod from the iPod, not the head unit. It's better for passengers to pass around the iPod and play DJ and not reach for the radio and discract me from driving. I like that it had no fold down faceplate. It does come with a hard faceplate case. If anyone is installing in a Forester, try using a 1-2 inch metal putty knife to get to the clips around the trim piece around the radio. The instruction sheet is a little lacking in telling you HOW to get to those. Push the knife in and pry the trim out, one clip at a time. A screwdriver will scratch the finish.
I would buy this unit again. This is my third system purchase from Crutchfield-never any problems.

Excellent features at an excellent price.

I was searching for a headunit to replace my stock C33 in my 1996 BMW 328i and I came across this one. It had everything I needed: it is an Alpine, has an auxillary unit (for my iPod), and turns amber to match the color of my interior lights. These three key features are what caused me to buy it in the first place but everything else was just incredible as well.

I got the headunit, a wiring harness (free), an antenna adapter (free), a crimp tool with 20 pieces ($6), Instructions (free), a 6 foot 3.5 MM jack ($5, for the Auxillary jack) and cable labels (free, but didn't use them), for $180 with shipping included. A fantastic price for all this stuff and their customer service is second to none. I thought my aux cable was defective so they sent me a new one, free of charge, but turns out I had one wire wired incorrectly which they told me how to fix and everything ran perfectly afterwards.

All I can say is that Crutchfield is the best and this headunit made my stock speakers sound amazing and my iPod never sounded better. Thanks Crutchfield and thanks Alpine.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Good headunit. Better then what was originaly in my civic, but what aftermarket headunit isn't. The controls are easy to memorize. Bass and trebel easily adjustable. The aux input is a nice touch for plugging in mp3 players/ipods. 2 sets of preamp outputs. Only thing I don't like about it is, its lacking in power alittle, but thats why I just bought an amp. Otherwise good headunit, buy it while its on sale.

I installed this to replace my OEM in my 98 Benz. I like it very much, it made a big difference to the sound coming out of the original speakers. You could easily tailor the bass and treble to your liking. I just wish this comes in black to match everything else in my dashboard panel.

Great price for a great deck.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I just installed this in my 2004 Mazda 3 and it looks beautiful. I wanted a unit that would allow me to play my ipod through the stereo but not control the ipod's playback. This sound is so much more crisp then when I was using a FM modulator. The dash kit provided fit like a glove and was a very easy install. Surprisingly this unit can change the color of the buttons from Gree, Blue, Red and Amber, the last of which matches my intrument panel perfectly. This unit is solid and I am always a big fan of volumn knobs over buttons. The navigation through MP3 disks is a little tricky but I dont plan on doing it too often b/c of the ipod. Overall I am very pleased. The sound quality has great increased along with the volume of the system. Now its time to save for some speakers and an amp!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I researched head units for my 2002 Chevy Silverado for quite some time, and I decided upon this unit due to the Alpine reputation, the specifications of the CDE-9845, the price, and the features. I wasn't looking for something too fancy, just a good CD player with an auxiliary input and the ability to play mp3/WMA discs. Most importantly, I wanted the audio quality to be top-notch. My research definitely paid off, because I am exceptionally happy with my decision to purchase this awesome head unit. Even though it is not as flashy as some other brands in it's price range, i.e. Pioneer and JVC, the audio quality far exceeds them. I couldn't be happier and Alpine certainly gained a loyal customer. Crutchfied gained a loyal customer in me as well. This was my first purchase from Crutchfield and the experience was great. The pricing was way competetive, shipping was fast, customer service was very helpful and friendly, and the technical knowledgebase is one of the most comprehensive/best that I have seen. Much thanks to Alpine and Crutchfield.

I bought this radio through the Scratch and Dent here at It far exceeded my expectations. I have Audiobahn front and rear speakers, a powered Bazooka 8" Sub and a powered Metrik 8" Sub and it sounds much better than my stock radio. The sound is crisp and clear. I love the fact that it gives you some control over many of the sound settings. You will need to read the instruction manual to understand the settings but with some practice is not difficult. I would recommend an amplifier since the built in amp is not enough if you want more power and better sound. I'm completely satisfied with this purchase, I'm glad I didn't get the Pioneer I was looking at.

Alpine CDE-9845

Written By John Sykora, Tustin, CA on Wednesday, January 25, 2006

I just upgraded from the pioneer DEH-1500 (which i've had for about 3 years). Recently i got 2 10" alpine type-r subs w/ a rockford fosgate p5002 amp. But having that all plugged into the rear outputs on the pioneer HU was a waste, and i had to really crank up the bass to get the subs going, but sacrificing the speaker quality. With the alpine HU (and actual sub outs) my subs really hit hard and the other speakers sound great. I've read that the controls are difficult to learn, but i figurered most of them out without the manuel, right after i popped it into the dash. It's definately a good HU for the cost and i will probably stick with alpine for future HUs.

Alpine CDE-9845 CD/MP3 Receiver - Great unit !!

Written By Stephen, Wolcott, CT on Sunday, January 15, 2006

I bought the Alpine CDE-9845 CD/MP3 Receiver from Crutchfield to replace the factory radio in my 2000 Mercury Cougar. I also wanted to be able to use my iPod without having to go through the FM tuner. All the features in the CDE-9845 are terrific. The radio works well and I enjoy being able to play CDs and CD-R/RWs too. However, it's really great having the convenience of bringing the major portion of my home music collection, by way of the iPod, on the road. I highly endorse the Alpine CDE-9845 CD/MP3 Receiver to anyone. I should also mention that this particular unit was recommended by Andy, one of Crutchfield's sales staff. Thanks Andy !!

Alpine CDE-9845

Written By Pete, Connecticut on Sunday, January 15, 2006

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I'm taking the time to fill in the survey and write a review because that is what helped me decide which player to buy and where to buy it. Everything I had read about the equipment, the instructions and tech support was confirmed. I needed to replace an older OEM head end in a '93 BMW 325 that had both an amplifier and a 6 disc changer in the trunk.

The Alpine CDE-9845 sounds better than the original and interfaces my son's iPod through the aux. cable. The in-dash CD is also more convenient than the trunk unit. The 9845 has the ability to change button color to red, amber, blue and green which I was going to use to match the amber lights on the BMW. The display as others have noted is a bit bright at night, but not a big deal once you get used to it. The in dash fit is perfect.

My installation did not need the PAC-OEM-2 connector ($29.95) as suggested in the overview section, but I didn't realize that until after I had installed it. The instructions (and harness they provided), are excellent. I did need to contact tech support (after I figured out I didn't need the extra connector), to correct one connection to the harness. Tech support was also excellent and took 30 seconds to figure the issue out. I returned the OEM-2 connector without hassle or expense. My only other advice is to check the speakers out before you order. I needed to replace a rear 4" driver and didn't realize it until after the Alpine was installed.

Very pleased with the entire experience.

Great Value with iPod aux in

Written By Joe, Heber Springs, AR on Tuesday, January 10, 2006

I bought this unit to replace my factory stereo so I could plug my iPod directly into the stereo and quit using a cassette adapter. I mounted a mini jack in the back of the tray that comes in the installation kit , plugged that into the rear aux input on the Alpine and plugged my iPod into the mini jack. Sound improvement over cassette adapter is tremendous - both for the direct connect and the Alpine stereo quality. Alpine stereo has great sound and features and I would recommend it as a mid-priced stereo to anyone. The only downside I found is that the owner's manual is a little obtuse in a few sections - but whose manual isn't? Good buy for the money.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The CDE-9845 is great. The sound quality is the best in its class and usability is second to none. The CDE-9845 is packed with features that allow you do most anything from cutom tailoring the sound to adding an iPod. The sublevel control is a MUST if you plan on adding a sub to your system. It doesn't have CD changer or XM/Sirius compatibility, but those are features that I am not interested in. Everything works and works well. The display is clear and easy to use, even in direct sunlight. you can't go wrong with this or any other Alpine.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This unit definatley amazes me. Previously owned another Alpine about 8 yrs ago and it ran solid till I got rid of my car. Install was very easy on my 2005 Hyundai Elantra. Crutchfield's instructions and directions were awesome. Plays mp3 cd w/no trouble and love the folder/file search option. Chose the CDA-9845 over the 9847 since I don't ever want a CD changer and I would rather plug in an iPod via a 3.5 mm cable than using the $120 alpine converter. Great system and Crutchfield is the next best thing to a professional install. Thanks for everything!

Totally Awesome

Written By HardRockin80s, Lexington, OK on Monday, October 10, 2005

This Alpine is so awesome Im really not sure where to begin. Well I started off with a Pioneer deh-3700 until it went out on me and then I got my Alpine. I didnt realize what I was missing out on until i got it. it has everything I need and not a bunch of stuff i dont like the pioneer does. The highs are very crisp and the lows are solid. It has a totally different sound than anything else i have ever used. Its like listening to my tunes for the very first time. I completely recommend this one for anyone who wants an all around awsome sounding system.

Flaky WMA support?

Written By EB_10925, Greenwood Lake, NY on Tuesday, August 30, 2005

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This was the first head unit that I've installed myself, and Crutchfield's customer support was superb (specifically, in telling me what to do with the "extra" wires that didn't seem to have any purpose). Even with my original speakers, the sound is phenomenal (deeper and crisper) compared to the stock radio. I don't like the wimpy, flimsy wire connectors included in the kit, so I borrowed a professional Swedish crimper kit from work. The controls are intuitive, except that switching to manual radio station adjustment took me a few minutes to figure out. These are my two complaints: 1. After struggling for half an hour trying to secure the head unit, I found it necessary to bend and break off some internal plastic parts in my Volkswagen Golf ('99 MK4 TDI) to accomodate the new head unit, and I couldn't screw it in permanently. Now, the head unit looks and feels secure, and doesn't wiggle at all, but with a forceful pull, I can pull the whole thing out with my bare hands. 2. I like the idea of recording in LOSSLESS WMA, without any of the background hiss that you sometimes hear in MP3 files. However, no matter what I try, I can't seem to play WMA files. I've tried WMA lossless, WMA CBR 44.1 16-bit stereo WMA, and WMA VBR stereo, with the individual files on separate CD-R's. I've even tried switching programs, from Nero to Easy CD Creator, and from WinAmp to RealAudio, and recording from Real as well as from streaming MP3. Nothing seems to work. There is apparently something wrong with my setup - the head unit always displays UNSUPPORT for WMA files. If I mix MP3's and WMA's on the same CD-R, the CD-R freezes at the first WMA file.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought this HU with hopes to adapt my ipod better to my 95 Jeep Wrangler. Installation was a breeze after I read the book. I had to cut my dash trim a little bit, but it still looks ok and anyone with a wrangler should use a rotary tool instead of my combination of a drill and a power saw. The unit is really easy to control and the display is easy to read, but the F1 T01 00:00 Format can get boring if you are not using mp3s. The sound is really great and there is lots of room to control the bass and treble. I love how you can change the colors depending on what mood you're in, but every color has blue in it if you are using it in the day time. At night, the lights work better and you cant tell that the buttons are made of blue plastic. There's a lot of road construction going on in town, so i hit some bumps and it skips a lot, but thats only on the cd's. Using an ipod is really easy and only requires a 4$ aux-aux cord. I would recommend this to anyone who wants cd/mp3/aux.

Nice Volvo 850 install

Written By Norman, Ithaca, NY on Tuesday, July 12, 2005

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Went with Alpine line on advice of another dealer after considering a Sony model. Was looking for a unit that doesn't go overboard with the "video game" look. Wanted aux input with ordinary 1/8" jack. This unit has more features than I need or want, but it sure does make the stock Volvo speakers sound like a million bucks. I can forget about upgrading my speakers, which I thought I'd need to do from the way they sounded with the factory radio.
For anyone with a Volvo 850...this is a straightforward install. Two local installers thought my car had a factory-equipment external amp that would have to be bypassed, making it a tricky wiring job. This IS NOT the case. Pop out the stock radio, pop in the Alpine.

My only negative is the station-preset buttons are smaller and closer together than I'd like. Too bad there aren't aftermarket units that take advantage of the double-height space in my car to offer larger controls and buttons spaced farther apart.

Great Entry Level Product

Written By Barry, Columbus, OH on Monday, July 11, 2005

This is a great and affordable product from a reputable company. This receiver was installed in a 2004 Nissan Xterra.

It helped the stock speakers immensley not to mention the many features this deck offers.

For the price you get a competitive product and it's an Alpine!

I would recommend this product to anyone that doesn't want to shell out 100's of dollars but still maintain quality performance.

Solid Choice

Written By David, Morristown, NJ on Tuesday, June 07, 2005

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Very good performer for the price. Actually, I'm not sure what you can get for more money. The HU seems to over emphasize vocals at low volume (maybe caused my Alpine's BBE technology?). Plays CD-RWs great. I'm not terribly impressed with the interface for playing MP3s. The song titles shop up very slowly and until they do it shows things like "F01 T14" - not very attractive in my opinion. The color choices are pretty lame in my opinion, every color still has a little blue leftover. I really would like an indigo color which matches my gauges. For some reason the pocket which fills the bottom half of my double-DIN Passat doesn't sit flush - the left side bulges out. I'll have to try to fix that when I run the AUX in wire. Beware all 2004 Passat owners - you'll have to run a wire to wiper fuse in the fuse box (not specific to this HU, this must be done for all HU - VW runs constant power to their stock HUs in the 04). It wasn't that hard but I would have liked to know in advance. The only thing I would consider spending more money on is a HU which plays MP3s from a DVD-R/DVD-RW (but then I'd probably have to spend more time painfully navigating through the disc to find what I want to hear).

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I purchased this unit as a replacement for my previous outdated and nearly dead Alpine Cdm-9835. The CDE-9845 replaced it awsomely with the additional features that I would need in order to make a direct connection to my current amplifiers and delphi myfi satellite radio. The lighting options are great (on the buttons), the aux input allowed me to hook up my portable satellite radio, and the two sets of preamps allowed easy transfer of my existing rca cable connections to the amplifiers. I researched plenty before purchasing this unit, and well I wouldn't be writing if I didn't think it was worth it. Just for info, my last alpine lasted me 6 years, and well it wasn't dead but my screen had gone blank and I needed an update in order to play the current formats of burned CD's and Mp3 formats. Enjoy

Why didn't I buy Alpine from the beginning??? Bottom line...I was stupid. I bought a Pioneer and Sony because they looked cool. I was sooo into looks that I compromised sound quality. This deck blows them all out of the water. I have the deck hooked to Infinity Reference 6802cf speakers and my truck sounds HOT! It is so easy to operate and the BBE feature is what sets it apart from the rest. Again I cannot believe the difference this thing makes. Anyone looking to revive their factory speaker system, this is the deck for you.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

It's great to have an mp3 player in the car! I'm very happy with this Alpine unit. Nice features include:
* mp3 folder or disc mixing
* clear display
* each source has individually adjustable bass/treble
* aux-in rocks
* when car is turned back on, unit continues where it left off!
* nice clean sound and bass
* drives factory speakers to their limits quite nicely

not so nice:
* numeric memory buttons are way too small and their numbers are unreadable from driving position.
* when in mp3 mix mode, you can't play previous track.
* i would be happier if the aux was built right into the front faceplate rather than having a seperate cord coming from back.

Crutchfield instructions very helpful and the dash panels and structure were easily removed.

this Alpine unit requires dremeling of metal radio holder for rear connector clearance that instructions didn't note (99 Suzuki GV).

I've been hooked on Alpine front ends since the early 80's. Extremely reliable, durable, and always sound great. I installed this unit in our S-10 because my wife was buggin' me to get rid of the factory junk. Now she is happy. This piece has a great tuner and solid cd transport. Function controls are easy to use and responsive. Its 18 watts X 4 provides ok punch, but since Crutchfield makes it so easy I'm going to add an amp and a subwoofer! Now I feel like a kid again and she is wonderin' what she started...

This is an awesome unit. I've owned it for about one month and all I can say is it is a great unit. It has a great sound; it really opened up my stock speakers. I am also impressed with its radio tuner range, it picks up stations better than my stock radio, and the music is so much clearer. I also was a snap to install and it looks awesome. With the ability to change the button colors it will match or offset any dash. Also the buttons are just the right size and the head unit is easy to use. I am extremely impressed with this Alpine Unit and would highly recommend it.

i had my kenwood head unit for like 6 years and it finally went, so i decided to try something a little different, for about the price range i was in, and i came across this head unit, great, it very powerful and loud even on low volume settings, im very impressed and i might be a repeat buyer if it'll atleast last 6+ years...

Great Buy!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I needed a head unit with aux-in for my Omnifi DMP1. The Clarion mp3 head unit I had for 2 years was great, but lacked the input I needed. I hated to give up the Clarion and I was on a budget, so price was very important. I didn't think I could get the quality I already had for under $200. Boy was I wrong. This thing has a very clean display, is easy to use, and is VERY configurable. I'm using the built-in amp to power my factory components and an external amp powering two 6x9 Infinity Reference speakers, and it is too loud for words. Don't hesitate on this one. I am a new Alpine fan!

Outstanding for the money

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I've had this receiver in my car for about a month now and so far I couldn't be happier with my purchase. It puts out clean, well rounded sound. This is more than I can say for the unit it's replacing. Before this I had the Alpine CDM-9821 and the sound I got from it just wasn't what I was expecting. On almost every song I listened to there was virtually no midrange sound, it just wasn't there. It was so bad that almost I gave up on Alpine as a whole, but I figured I'd still give this one a try anyways. This head unit gives out crisp, clean sound, and is very easy to set up. All of the sound adjustments are very easy to find, I didn't even open the manual. The big selling point for me was the auxillary input so I can use my iPod in the car. I could have upgraded to the CDA-9847 and gotten the iPod adapter, but I couldn't justify spending another $120 on it. Over all the unit look and sounds great, and is very easy to use. I couldn't be happier.

Kick Ass Product

This unit may have a little less features then others, Like a wireless Remote for one.But for the price it is well worth it.It is Very easy to setup and even more easy to use wile driving down the road.
I must say this has the best sound I have ever heard from a unit in this price range & also seems to be very durable as well.
It was either this or a Kenwood,The Kenwood had more features but lacked the quality that you seem to always find in Alpine Products. The controls of the kenwood comparible models also seemed questionable,They had a very CHEAP feel to them & were also alot harder to use.
Hands down this Alpine unit blows the compareing units in this price range right out of the dashboard, no question. You should buy one, I did :O)

Forget the remote!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

If you want a great radio this is the one to get. You get the Alpine name and quality that they are known for. This unit has an auxillary jack on the back that your iPod, DVD player or other portable device can plug into. It is easy to set up the naming features. This unit done wonders for my factor speakers, though they will get changed later.
Don't need the remote. The unit is easy to navigate without it.
I definatly recommend this unit if you want a great radio.

Good Radio

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is a very nice radio for the money. Alpine always makes a good stereo, and this one is no exception. It plays all your MP3 / WMA files great, and it sounds great too. I do wish that it came with a wireless remote, the Pioneer models around the same cost come with a remote. I like how you can change the color of the buttons to match your dash lights. No real complaints with this radio except the remote!

Alpine Head Unit

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Great head unit! Easy to set-up, classy display & simple rear mounted 1/8" auxillary input that allows one to hook up audio sources on the fly without "High End" install methods. Only downside, no wireless remote. But for the dollar you get the Alpine name, quality and expandability.

Good Value if you are looking for a head unit with an auxillary input.

CEA-2006 Compliant: The specifications given by Alpine for the built-in amplifier comply with the CEA-2006 mobile amplifier power testing and measurement standards from the CEA (Consumer Electronics Association). All manufacturers who comply with the standard can display the CEA-2006 logo on their product.

Switchable Button Color: The illumination of the 4 main buttons (Source/Power, Band, |<<, and >>|) can be switched to any of 4 colors: Blue, Green, Amber, and Red. When the illumination is set to Blue or Green, the color of the other buttons is Green. When the illumination is set to Amber or Red, the color of the other buttons is Amber.

Dimmer: This unit is equipped with an illumination dimmer lead. When the unit's dimmer mode has been set to "Auto" and the illumination lead has been connected to your vehicle's headlight circuit, the button illumination will dim to a fixed, preset level whenever the headlights are turned on. If preferred, you may choose the "Manual" dimmer mode setting, so the button illumination is dim at all times.

Bass Engine: Bass Engine functions provide control over your system, so you can tailor the sound to your personal tastes. Bass Engine includes the following functions:

  • Bass Control:
    • Bass Center Frequency: Select from 60Hz, 80Hz, 100Hz, or 120Hz
    • Bass Band Width: Select from 1 (narrow) to 4 (wide)
    • Bass Level: Select from -7 to +10
  • Treble Control:
    • Treble Center Frequency: Select from 7.5kHz, 10kHz, 12.5kHz or 15kHz
    • Treble Level: -7 to +7

BBE: BBE makes vocals or instruments sound distinct regardless of the music source. You can select the level of the BBE effect (1, 2, or 3), or turn BBE off. Note: You can set different levels of BBE for each source. BBE is not available for AM radio.

Switchable Rear/Subwoofer Preout: The rear preamp outputs can be switched to a non-fading subwoofer preamp output with a variable output of 0 to +15. When the subwoofer is activated in the Setup menu, the preout is switched at the same time. When the subwoofer is deactivated, the preout is switched back to a rear channel output.

MP3/WMA Playback: This unit can play CD-ROM, CD-R, and CD-RW discs containing MP3/WMA files recorded using the ISO 9660 Level 1 or Level 2 formats. MP3 files with constant and variable bit rates from 8 kbps to 320 kbps and WMA files with constant and variable bit rates from 48 kbps to 192 kbps are supported. Discs recorded using Joliet, Romeo, or other ISSO 9660 compliant formats can be played, but file and folder names will not be displayed correctly. Discs containing both standard CD audio and MP3/WMA data can be played; the unit may be set to play only the CD audio tracks or both types of tracks. ID3 tag v1 and v2, and WMA tag are supported; track title, artist name and album name ID3 tag data can be displayed.

Disc and Station Titling: Titles of up to 8 characters in length may be entered for up to 24 radio stations and 18 CDs.

Text/File/Folder Search: When you're playing a disc with CD Text, or MP3/WMA tags, you can easily search for a track or file by its title. Once you have activated the search mode, you can use the rotary encoder to quickly scan through the titles to locate the desired track, and select it by pressing the rotary encoder.

Auxiliary Input: The CDE-9845 is equipped with a rear-mounted 3.5mm female mini-jack auxiliary input. In the Setup menu, you can activate/deactivate the Aux Input. When activated, you can choose a name for the input from the following: Auxiliary, TV, VCR, or Game.

Power IC Off: When an external amplifier is connected and the built-in amplifier is not used, removing power from the built-in amplifier will improve the sound quality.
