Alpine's CDE-9874 CD receiver clusters all controls on the left side of its control panel, so it's easy to use when you're driving. The detachable faceplate offers a rotary volume control for quick adjustments, along with an auxiliary input for your portable music player.

Connect Alpine's Bluetooth® adapter for hands-free calls with your compatible phone, and keep your phone in your pocket when driving. Press a button on the stereo, and your music is muted while the caller's voice comes over your speakers. A microphone included with the Bluetooth adapter picks up your end of the conversation.

The stereo boasts Alpine's "Full Speed" interface for your iPod® — just add the optional cable for fast, complete access to your iPod. Alpine's unique Percentage Search feature lets you jump through your playlist quickly, so you can find the song you want without a lot of fuss.

Building a system? You can connect your external amplifiers to the two sets of preamp outputs, then control the audio performance with Bass Engine® sound shaping, which even lets you manage your subwoofer system from the driver's seat. Once your sub is hooked up, you can maximize system performance by using the built-in high-pass filters to remove low bass from your speakers.

Note: If you're going to use your iPod with this receiver, be sure to check "Details" for specific iPod model compatibility with this receiver or its optional iPod adapter.

Note: Sorry, Crutchfield cannot ship Alpine products to Guam or Puerto Rico.

Everything I expected from Alpine. Great sound. The owners manual could be more clear and informative, like how to remove faceplate, and how to bypass the units strongest signal program to use manual tuning.
Not the best manual I have seen. Try looking at Blauplunkts operating manual for an idea.

    Another quality Alpine product.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought this head unit from Crutchfield about 6 months ago, and I'm very pleased. I've ran nothing but Alpine H/U's for the past 15 years, and I dont see that changing anytime soon.

This is a fairly basic model, but that's exactly what I wanted. Easy to operate, yet has the features I wanted such as sub output, iPod compatible, and MP3. It's plenty powerful to run my 4 kicker 6x8's, without all of the gimicky features that so many brands have went to.

This deck is rock solid, and I'd recommend it to anyone. Two thumbs up to Crutchfield as well for their excelent service yet again!

Ease of installation, Great assistance from the Tech Support. I had a little trouble (not ever installing a stereo before) with finding out about using all the wires in the harness. With a little help I had tunes in 2.5 hours. Thank you Tech Team for your support.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is a great aftermarket replacement receiver. It does everything I need it to do, has an easy to read display & exceptional sound quality through the 2 volt RCA jacks. I cannot comment on the built in amplifier, however, since I never run speakers off of head unit amps. The Ipod controls are fairly intuitive, but take some getting used to. The text display area could be a bit larger.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Just installed the Alpine 9874 in my 14 year old Isuzu Trooper. Had purchased from Crutchfield in the past, but never had to use the customer service for questions after the sale. They sent me the master sheet specifically for my vehicle with the radio purchase. Problem -the new radio did not work. I called(7pm on a weekday) the service tech dept. and they walked me through what steps I should take to get it done right. Well it did not take long to find out what was wrong and with their help had the radio working and reinstalled within 40 minutes. For the $$$-this is a great radio with awesome sound. Has more features than I will use, but most new receivers nowadays include them all for prices that are unheard of. Will continue to be a Crutchfield satisfied customer.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This stereo unit was just what I needed for my 2003 Saturn Ion. The installation was simple, (less than an hour) and it really cranked up my Alpine speakers! The bass is deep and the highs are high. I cant say enough about the performance of a realatively inexpensive system. It took me a while to figure out all the buttons, but once I did it was easy to navigate. I really like the aux input on the front of the unit. I was able to simply plug in my satellite radio and play it with no alternator noise or weak volume. This is a great unit, I highly recommend.

No complaints about this stereo unit. We bought it for my wife - we were specifically looking for something with an iPod interface. The %-select feature of this headunit makes finding the right artist/playlist/etc. really easy. The unit is fairly responsive, too, when scrolling to scan iPod titles. The unit actually looks better in real life than in the online photos - the Alpine interface is streamlined and easy to use. Overall an excellent unit for the money.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is the best receiver I've ever owned. I've always been an alpine guy and this is a great unit for the price. And the fact that Crutchfield throws in the vehicle specific install kits make it an even better deal. I bought it for the aux inputs and the ability to play mp3/wma/aac format discs. Now I can load up a cd and have hours of music. However I was a little disappointed in the sound level of the front aux input, but I can live with it. I hooked it up with a Kicker 9-band equalizer with sub x-over and now my system sounds better than ever. I spent more time playing with all the settings than the installation.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I hated my stock radio. I had a 12" sony Xplod something hooked up to my stock system. added life, but sounded terrible at low levels, and at loud levels sounded only decent. this stereo totally brought everything to life, i love the fact that i can turn down JUST the subwoofer, makes having my daughter in the car sooo much easier then messing with everything first. I live off my ipod and i only use the AUX input because i have over 5000 songs on it and i like jsut being able to use the ipod instead of using the stereo. installing everything was so easy w/ crutchfields instructions. my friends dad soldered my harness and i was good to go. overall i LOVE IT. all i wanted was a basic CD/MP3 player with sub outs and AUX input. and this had it!!! buy it, you wont regret it. my all new favorite toy. i love just driving in my car now. i dont care gas empties my wallet. this unit makes it worth it!!!

Simple install with all the stuff included. I have installed head units in the
past, but this was so easy following the included instructions. The unit
works great after you play around with it and get your settings the way
you want them. I spent more time playing with the settings then the
install. I love Alpine and this unit is a great deal for the price. Now I need
    speakers, go figure?

    Eased my fears

Written By ray, ill on Tuesday, July 15, 2008

Mustangs have a terrible rep for swapping stock to aftermarket head units, especially the mach 1000. I don't have to rewire or replace all my speakers ,as many said I would have to do. I imagine it wouldn't sound as good replacing the mach 460 but as for me, after getting used to the sensitive sound controls I found the sweet spot. The alpine let me control my stock subs and now I get more clarity and ear peircing sound if I want. My original muddy sound is gone. This is my second Alpine but different car. Thanks to Crutch for the minor Q & A and putting up with my initial fears, they were great. No this is not a comercial. It was easy to wire and put in. Good unit solution for me. Great price for unit, harness, wiring and instructions. I am more than satisfied. I have nimble fingers so the controls are not as difficult as some say, just keep your eyes on the road and get your settings right before your trip, why fiddle, just enjoy. If you already have an amp, don't worry about power, there's plenty. 19 on the volume knob is sweet but 20 punches the neighboring drivers. Keep the windows up and crank the AC. Or not.

    Can't be easier than this!

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

99 Honda Accord 4-Dr. It took me about 15 minutes to uninstalled the factory head. I had to work on the 2 top metal clips of the dash board to remove the panel, and the 2 bottom screws holding the factory bracket were so tight I had to use a ratchet wrench to get it off.

The installation kit fits exactly to the mounting holes and to the panel. As reported, there is a slight bow in the bottom plastic holder that shows a tiny tiny gap, which I could live it. Also as reported, the ribs inside the plastic holder take away usable room.

The head unit fits perfectly into the kit. The longest part of my installation was to solder and heatshrink the connections. I recommend to connect all the wires as instructed and Check all functions: balance, fader, etc. to make sure (1) the head is working properly, (2) your wiring connections are right, and (3) assess how to route the cable bundle behind the head (you may want to shorten wire length as necessary.) Once all is good, do the permanent connection one wire at a time.

Hindsight, this head does not have Dimmer wire. I should have experiment by connecting the Dimmer wire of the kit to the Illumination wire of the head. Maybe the full dimming of the head would be possible.

Kudos to Crutchfield for making this installation painless. Everything is working and everything fits! Customer service is friendly and knowledgable. YEAH BABY!

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

    I've never wrote a
    review for something
    before, but I
    decided to on this
    item because of the
    Crutchfield Customer
    Service. First, the
    head unit works
    great, good sound,
    made my factory
    speakers a bit
    louder, clearer, and
    a bit more hard
    hitting. It fit
    great in my Santa Fe
    and is IMO the
    perfect head unit if
    your looking for
    something with great
    sound, flexibility
    (2 pre outs, aux in)
    and not a lot of
    bells and whistles
    you don't need
    (flashing display, a
    million pre-outs,
    motorized faceplate,
    etc.) I have a very
    keen set of ears and
    this head unit is
    sure to meet your
    demands. The
    service, however,
    was where this
    purchase really
    shined. I ordered a
    receiver (Alpine
    9872) and realized I
    wanted this one
    (9874) before the
    9872 got to my door.
    I called Crutchfield
    and got a free
    return label emailed
    to me before I even
    got the delivery. I
    returned the 9872,
    they sent the 9874
    right out, but
    forgot to include
    thinking I pulled
    them out of the
    first box. I
    explained to them
    that I hadn't
    touched the first
    box so they
    immediately shipped
    the parts to me at
    no charge. I even
    had a question about
    the install that was
    answered very
    quickly. It really
    is worth spending a
    little extra cash on
    a product with the
    guarantee that you
    can return in with
    no hassle and have
    free tech support
    for life. Thanks

    Great Receiver

This is an excellent receiver. I also bought the iPod interface cable and it is very easy to use. It accesses playlists and song very quickly and in a very intuitive manner. Easy to install with the crutchfield directions and harness adapter.

In itself the 9874 is definately a step up from a factory unit... Yet it's not up to par with other entry/mid level units bought in the past. There was a review about this, and I should had paid more heed. quote:

"While it has plenty of options for connection to external components, audio quality via the system's built-in amplifier can be unrefined at higher volumes."

Folks I'm here to tell you it's true. If I am going to listen to my music loud sometimes, I want clear, undistorted sound. This model doesn't live up to those standards. My panasonic cq-c2703u bought here @ crutchfield leaves this unit in the dust in terms of sound quality.

Sorry audiophilles, I just can't get all warm and fuzzy about this unit.

    Good Receiver, Great Crutchfield Service

Written By Suneet, Streamwood, IL on Sunday, June 01, 2008

    I purchased this
    receiver after
    deciding to attempt
    my first car audio
    self-install. A
    local store said
    they would have to
    charge me $200 to
    install it in a '97
    Acura 3.0 CL. Did
    some research and
    this was the least
    gaudy of the
    receivers that could
    replace the factory
    Bose system.

    Got the unit and was
    able to install it
    myself within a
    couple of hours with
    about $5 of extra
    parts and keeping
    the dash looking
    good by not using
    the trim kit that
    came with the
    receiver. One
    question about the
    wiring was quickly
    answered by
    Crutchfield's tech

    Powered up the unit
    and the system
    worked well. But I
    noticed that the
    volume knob was very
    sensitive. I
    realized that I had
    not taken the
    factory Bose amp
    into account. I
    could wire around it
    but an Alpine rep
    told me that I
    needed an interface
    to run it through
    the amp. I called
    Crutchfield and Tom
    in tech support sent
    me an interface box
    that worked like a

    I am very pleased
    with the receiver's
    quality and ease of
    use. Wish it had
    more than 10
    characters in the
    display and could
    read more than 15
    characters of a
    WMA's tag but these
    are minor issues.
    I'm saving CD-Rs
    because I can re-use
    a CD-RW whenever I
    want a new playlist.
    I like the sound
    quality - I have
    noticed things in
    music that I did not
    detect with the old
    Bose system.

    Thank you
    Crutchfield and
    especially Tom in
    tech support for all

have this alpine powering my alpine 6 1/2 and 6x9 in my 2005 nissan

my kenwood and it was 40 buck less with better sound!! Great produce as

I bought this to replace the factory stereo in my 2006 Jeep Wrangler. I have had several Alpine stereos in other vehicles and have always been pleased. This one tops them all. Intuitive controls, clear display, and tons of functionality...especially for the price. I would suggest this unit to anyone, you'll love it. Also a huge applause for the Crutchfield team. Their installation guide made the job a breeze!

    where is the manual?

Written By Yongwon, Charlottesville, VA on Friday, March 14, 2008

Installed in a Hyundai Elantra 2001 yesterday. The unit has a removable
trim, which needs to be removed to fit most cars, but that's nowhere
obvious either the Mastersheet or Alpine's included instructions. It
IS mentioned in Alpine's full manual, but that's not printed for you.
(Granted, if I was an experienced gear head I would have known this
already.) Alpine's full manual comes on a CD so you have to print it
yourself. (What's the point?? Less paper, more plastic???)
Thankfully, the included quick reference guide has harness wiring
diagrams so I was able to install the unit.

Unit, harness, and radio antenna connection all built from high
quality stuff and fits well. Optional iPod cable is of same high
quality. I didn't use the pre-outs, but they are there if you want

    Display & Design:
There are no large logos or crazy writing to waste valuable face space, and
everything is laid out very well.

Display is one of the reasons I bought this over other units. The
display is a nice bright white LED with large text/numbers which are
EASY to read, even in sunlight. Color cannot be changed. This main display
is a lot brighter and easier to read than the fancier displays in comparable
    JVC, Sony
and Pioneer units. It can only display 10 letters at the time though.

The unit has an auto-dim function, so that if you turn on the car's
headlights the unit's buttons dim. As far as I can tell, only the
blue buttons dim. The LED and other buttons do not dim. However, I am
happy to say that the lighting on the buttons and LEDs are not so
bright that they distract from night driving. (But they are bright)

Everything sounds great, with balanced audio all around. I think the
power rating on this unit is lower than other units, but it works
well with stock speakers and sounds great, so I don't care what the
numbers say. Treble and Bass response is dramatically better than stock
unit. Doesn't have a full EQ or pre-set settings, but does have lots of
tweaking room, like selectable low frequency cutoff.

The unit gets excellent radio reception over the stock radio - I'm
picking up stations I didn't know we had.

All buttons are where they should be, and big and nicely spaced so
that you don't have to fumble around while driving. The volume knob
is the best! It's big, turns smooth, yet feels solid and has
excellent tactile feedback. The volume knob on comparable units by
    JVC/Kenwood/Sony/Pioneer weren't as good. (Pioneer's knob is a wobbly
mess, Sony feels nice but is way too small JCV and Kenwood's knobs
are too and shallow to grab easily.)

There are downfalls: not all buttons are labeled clearly, and you
don't know the button's secondary functions until you read the
manual. And because the volume knob also functions as the selector in
most functions, the volume cannot be changed while you're in ANY
menu. You can't push the mute button either, since that just re

Wow, this is a really great head unit for the price! I installed it into my 2007 dodge ram and the only problem I ran into, was that the trim that comes with the unit, does not fit with the dash kit. But it still has a pretty good fit/seal without it! I was very impressed with all the features and the quality it gave me! I installed it in about 20 mins. Great Buy!!!

I am totally satisfied with my Alpine CDE-9874 !! This is the first time that I have ever replaced a factory system with the above mentioned Alpine and front and rear polk audio speakers. WOW what a difference. I intend to drive that car until it wears out, just to continue to listen to the great sound. Also, with my aux jack my MP3 or XM to go fits right in and sounds much better than the factory system which had to depend on a cigg lighter modulater if I needed to listen to XM. Cd's also sound great!!
