by Buck Pomerantz
Alpine Authorized Online Dealer

Alpine's HCE-C104 rear-view camera helps you back in and out of tight places, so you can safely navigate through almost any parking situation. This 1.5 lux camera works well in low-light situations and offers a 132° horizontal viewing angle. You'll see a bright, wide view of what's behind your vehicle, day or night.

This tiny camera measures less than one square inch, so it'll fit just about anywhere. You can pair it with Alpine's KTX-C10LP license plate mounting kit, for a handy and stealthy installation solution. The package includes an 11.75-foot cable with composite video RCA plugs that allows the HCE-C104 camera to connect to any in-dash receiver or front-mount screen with a composite video input.

Overview: Add the Alpine HCE-C104 rear-view camera to your vehicle's in-dash monitor for added safety and back out of parking spots with more ease. This small camera (mounting bracket included) can be installed on the rear bumper or by the license plate of your SUV, truck, or car. The high quality color picture is projected right onto your vehicle's in-dash monitor via composite video so you can view what's behind you, right from the convenience of your dash. The Alpine HCE-C104 consists of a rear-view camera, mounting bracket, as well as necessary cable and hardware for installation.

Note: Because the HCE-C104 has a standard composite video output (RCA), it can be used with any monitor with a composite video rear-camera input.

Rear-View Camera: The rear-view camera assists you (the driver) in checking behind your vehicle by sending images to your vehicle's in-dash monitor, showing conditions behind the car. The camera uses a wide-angle lens, therefore, there is a difference in distance perspective between what is normally seen and what appears on the screen. Also, the images shown by the camera are reversed, so as to appear the same as what is seen through the rearview mirror. The Alpine rear-view camera offers the following additional features.

  • Weatherproof housing
  • 1/4" color CMOS image sensor with a 4:3 aspect ratio
  • 640 x 480 (300,000) effective pixels
  • 132° horizontal viewing angle, 105° vertical viewing angle
  • Illumination Range of 1.5 lx to 100,000 lx
  • F=1.28 focal length
  • F=2.4 brightness

Warning short cable

Written By Andrew K., Lancaster,Ca on Sunday, August 26, 2012
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)
Tried to install on my 2005 Toyota 4Runner but used half of the cable routing thru the rear hatch. The cable seemed to be long enough when laid from the Clarion head unit down the center of the vehicle. Then I found a video on line where they mounted it on the rear hatch above the license plate in the "original Toyota" position.I lked that alot better but soon ran out of cable.I thought I would install the backup camera while installing my NX602 Head unit Ialso bought from Crutchfield..Toyota also uses two antenna leads both different sizes. The speakers have the spacers molded into the speakers. This is realy become quite a project though the factory brackets bolt right to the same place on the clarion as the toyota head unit.
Compact size, adjustable 180' pivot bracket with adhesive and screws.
Cable is too short and wires are easy to break when pulling thru tight areas.

Works Well

Written By Eric, Illinois on Sunday, June 10, 2012
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)
I bought this to use with a Gentek Mirror with the built in LCD. It works pretty well including in low light conditions. I'm using it on a 2011 Outlander Sport in the factory camera location. What I really liked about this camera is that there is no separate brain box to hide. It is a very simple straightforward design that makes it easy to wire. The price is right as well.
Good quality, simple wiring, and priced right.
Not much hardware included compared to the Pioneer camera I had before on another vehicle.

1 question already asked

Does the camera automatically turn on if you have a manual transmission? If so, how? By splicing into a reverse wire somewhere? I have a 2009 Mustang GT. [ Michael  Mar 13, 2014 ]

  • sorry michael, I had mine installed with my stereo, in my F450 camper bus, yesterday so don't know how mine works yet, won't get back for a while,as they are installing other interior items Vernon [ VERNON E   Mar 14, 2014 ]
  • It does turn on when put in reverse. That is a function of your indash receiver. There is a wire which connects to your reverse lights. When power is applied to it the unit switches on the camera. [ RAMON   Mar 14, 2014 ]
  • Not sure what head unit you have but mine I ran to accessory because I can whatch the camera while I drive then I taped off the reverse light to the orange wire off my alpine to auto mastic ally come on in revers [ DOMINIQUE L   Mar 14, 2014 ]
  • Hi Michael, I have an automatic transmission, and yes I had to connect the camera power activation wire to the wire the provides power to the backup lights. I'm sure it will be the same for you. [ Jim   Mar 13, 2014 ]
  • Sorry Michael, but, I bought this camera for my son in Wisconsin, so I have no idea how it works. He hasn't installed it in his vehicle yet. [ MARJA   Mar 13, 2014 ]
  • Yes it does. Ideally they have you splice into the wiring harness. I was lazy and tapped into a back up light. [ MIKE   Mar 13, 2014 ]
