Alpine's HCE-C104 rear-view camera helps you back in and out of tight places, so you can safely navigate through almost any parking situation. This 1.5 lux camera works well in low-light situations and offers a 132° horizontal viewing angle. You'll see a bright, wide view of what's behind your vehicle, day or night.

This tiny camera measures less than one square inch, so it'll fit just about anywhere. The package includes an 11.75-foot cable with composite video RCA plugs that allows the HCE-C104 camera to connect to any in-dash receiver or front-mount screen with a composite video input.

Note: Sorry, Crutchfield cannot ship Alpine products to Guam or Puerto Rico.

Note: A rear-view camera provides an additional view when reversing your vehicle. It is intended to be used in conjuction with your rear- and side-view mirrors to give a fuller picture of what's behind you. It is not intended as a replacement for your mirrors.

My first Camera

Written By KevB, Pennsylvania on Monday, November 02, 2015

I bought this product a year ago along with a Pionneer AVH-X3500BHS and it worked and did the job until water got into the back of the camera. They should have said to seal the back of the camera where the wires come out. The picture was decent during the day and was grainy at night but still did the job. The lack of grid-lines made it hard to determine how far away things were and the fish eye effect grew worse as the months went on.

Pros: Wiring was easy, great during the day, easy to install

Cons: Exposed back, grainy at night, eventually got a fish eye effect

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Once installed and working, the camera is quite good and I am very happy with the angle of view and relative distant markers, for easy viewing.

Pros: Wide angle, clear picture, and good distance markers !

Cons: I intentionally purchased one of the more expensive cameras in Crutchfield Line-up, it was an alpine camera that I was going to attach to an alpine head unit , much to my dismay and disappointment, it was not a simple plug and play, very disturbed that I had to rig powerlines, use male to male adapters etc, to get what must be at off-the-shelf Asian camera sourced from somewhere that they must have slapped an Alpine sticker on, and not have directions to indicate top or bottom.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Tried to install on my 2005 Toyota 4Runner but used half of the cable routing thru the rear hatch. The cable seemed to be long enough when laid from the Clarion head unit down the center of the vehicle. Then I found a video on line where they mounted it on the rear hatch above the license plate in the "original Toyota" position.I lked that alot better but soon ran out of cable.I thought I would install the backup camera while installing my NX602 Head unit Ialso bought from Crutchfield..Toyota also uses two antenna leads both different sizes. The speakers have the spacers molded into the speakers. This is realy become quite a project though the factory brackets bolt right to the same place on the clarion as the toyota head unit.

Pros: Compact size, adjustable 180' pivot bracket with adhesive and screws.

Cons: Cable is too short and wires are easy to break when pulling thru tight areas.

Works Well

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought this to use with a Gentek Mirror with the built in LCD. It works pretty well including in low light conditions. I'm using it on a 2011 Outlander Sport in the factory camera location. What I really liked about this camera is that there is no separate brain box to hide. It is a very simple straightforward design that makes it easy to wire. The price is right as well.

Pros: Good quality, simple wiring, and priced right.

Cons: Not much hardware included compared to the Pioneer camera I had before on another vehicle.

Overview: Add the Alpine HCE-C104 rear-view camera to your vehicle's in-dash monitor for added safety and back out of parking spots with more ease. This small camera (mounting bracket included) can be installed on the rear bumper or by the license plate of your SUV, truck, or car. The high quality color picture is projected right onto your vehicle's in-dash monitor via composite video so you can view what's behind you, right from the convenience of your dash. The Alpine HCE-C104 consists of a rear-view camera, mounting bracket, as well as necessary cable and hardware for installation.

Note: Because the HCE-C104 has a standard composite video output (RCA), it can be used with any monitor with a composite video rear-camera input.

Rear-View Camera: The rear-view camera assists you (the driver) in checking behind your vehicle by sending images to your vehicle's in-dash monitor, showing conditions behind the car. The camera uses a wide-angle lens, therefore, there is a difference in distance perspective between what is normally seen and what appears on the screen. Also, the images shown by the camera are reversed, so as to appear the same as what is seen through the rearview mirror. The Alpine rear-view camera offers the following additional features.

  • Weatherproof housing
  • 1/4" color CMOS image sensor with a 4:3 aspect ratio
  • 640 x 480 (300,000) effective pixels
  • 132° horizontal viewing angle, 105° vertical viewing angle
  • Illumination Range of 1.5 lx to 100,000 lx
  • F=1.28 focal length
  • F=2.4 brightness
