Beware, check compatibility before you order

Written By Matt, Columbus, Ohio on Saturday, April 03, 2010
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)
I was told by a Crutchfield sales rep that this would work with the CDA-117
headunit that I was ordering, but while installing it I found that it does not.
The CDA-117 only has a USB dongle, dedicated dongle for the Bluetooth
accessory, and an Ai-Net port. Crutchfield was very good about correcting this
mix-up though and set me up with an exchange immediately. The correct aux
input for the CDA-117 should be KCE-121B, which uses the Ai-Net port.

Nice solution

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)
I listen to iPods, scanners and HAM radios regularly in my car. I bought the car used with the Alpine CDE-9872 installed and found this solution while looking for the user guide. It simply plugged into a 6 inch pig tail on the back of the radio and I enabled the port following the instructions I found for the radio. Works great. Just plug it into the headphone jack of either of my portable radios, an iPod, son's DVD player, or whatever and the sound is through the cars speakers. I can mute it quickly for a phone call or adjust with the volume with the radio's controls. Great gizmo for the price.

Warning if considering for IDA-X100/X305

Written By tdrouill, Golden, CO on Monday, February 09, 2009
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)
I bought this adapter to play music from an external source through my IDA-X100. On the X100 config menu, "AUX+" must be enabled, then AUXILIARY+ will be added to the list when cycling through different sources with the SOURCE button. Plug the 3.5 mm connector into the headphone or line-output jack of any music player or audio device, and listen through the Alpine head unit.

Now for the downside. When AUX+ is selected as the source, the main large-digit clock display on the X100 is unavailable. Press the VIEW button and you get an error tone, nothing else happens. The display shows the word "Auxiliary+" in the middle of an empty screen, with date and time written along the bottom in extremely tiny text.

I called Alpine tech support and first they said, "Press the VIEW button." I told them I had, he went away to test it, came back and said, "That's just the way it is. Date and time at the bottom of the screen, that's all you get."

I asked if the IDA-X305 was any different, he said that it is the same.

Crutchfield was great answering my questions. I am disappointed with Alpine, both for neglecting this obvious function, and for stating it's an intentional design.

Not compatible with iPod adapter

Written By 245Dad, Edmonds, WA on Monday, January 26, 2009
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)
Seems like a good product but the problem is that you can't use it and the iPod adapter at the same time. They use the same input port on the head unit. I ended up buying the KCA-121B adapter instead... uses different port.

Plug and play, couldn't be simpler. I've been using Alpine products for over 20 years and have never been disapointed.
