Alpine

Our take on the Alpine KCE-422i iPod cable

Alpine Authorized Online Dealer

Want to listen to your iPod through your car audio system? If you have an Alpine stereo with "Full Speed™" controls, all it takes is this KCE-422i connection cable — there's no extra gear to install. With just one cable between your iPod and your stereo, you'll get super-fast data transfer and full playback control.

Once connected, Alpine's Full Speed controls allow you to manage just about every playback function right from the radio's faceplate. QuickSearch™ makes it easy to find the music that you want — jump between artists, albums, and playlists at the push of a button. You can even scroll through songs using the rotary control knob. Album, artist, and song information from your iPod will show up on the radio's display, too.

On the sound front, you can use the Bass Engine tone controls on your Alpine stereo to coax the best possible performance out of your compressed music files. Alpine's Full Speed connection works with all dockable iPods and charges the iPod's battery while it's connected. Length: 6-1/2'. Warranty: 1 year.

Compatibility Note: Be sure to check "Hands-on Research" for specific iPod model compatibility with this iPod adapter.

Note: Sorry, Crutchfield cannot ship Alpine products to Guam or Puerto Rico.

Features

iPod Full Speed: The KCE-422i allows you to connect your Apple iPod to any 2006-up Full Speed-compatible Alpine head unit. It has an iPod dock connector on one end and a "D-shaped" 10-pin DIN plug on the other end. There is no hideaway box to deal with as with many other iPod adapters.

iPod Compatibility: This adapter cable can be used to interface a compatible receiver to any iPod with a dock connector. The cable gives you full control and full sound at full speed. You can quickly and easily search through all of the music contained on your iPod through Playlist, Artist, Album or Song searches. You can view Artist, Album, Song Information and Song Number right on the head unit's display. The cable will also power the iPod and charge the battery. The Alpine KCE-422i is "Made for iPod" compatible and supports the following iPod model features (as of Dec. 2009):

Exactly What I Was Looking For!

Written By Ferbis, Huntington Beach, CA on Tuesday, October 31, 2006

Crutchfield Customer Review

The reviewer purchased this item from us, verified by the email address on the order.

Paired up with the Alpine 9856, I couldn't have expected anything better. This was the perfect solution for the woes of not wanting to constantly change CDs. Now I have 3500 songs at my fingertips! And when they say that this connection is fast. they mean FAST! I will admit, at first, I was a bit skeptical as to how fast this syncs the head unit to the iPod. After playing with an iPod setup of a different manufacturer in a friend's Navigator, I wasn't really impressed with the integration of iPods to automobile head units. Since I had prior experience with Alpine, a couple extra bucks to blow off on the CDA-9856, a strong desire to use the iPod in the car, and a need to establish a relationship with crutchfield.com, I decided to team up the iPod connector with a new head unit. Pleasantly, I was surprised to find that the alpine setup really is 100x faster (I can scroll and search thru my playlists, song names, etc. without having to worry about taking my eyes off the road).

If you're looking to integrate the iPod with your vehicle and either have, or are thinking of buying, an Alpine iPod connector ready head unit... this IS what you want. I'll tell ya, when it comes to getting the iPod to work fluidly with the car head unit, this will not disappoint you.

Best ipod interface by far

This is with out a doubt the best part of our Alpine system. The sound is fantastic and this is by far the fastest ipod interface on the market. Alpine went directly to Apple and designed this cable and their 2006 receivers to work best with ipods, and it shows. Now if they would work on the front panel buttons on their receivers and the display. Crutchfield has the best price on this cable also at $29.99, a steal.

Works perfect with my Alpine 9856. I plugged it into the HU, and plugged the cable into my ipod and fired it up. It charges your ipod as well! When they say "full speed" they mean it! There is no lag between the HU and the ipod. I only wish that alpine included a cap to put at the end of the ipod connector when it is not in use.

Couldn't ask for more!

Written By Rob, Vernon, NJ on Saturday, July 08, 2006

I installed a CDA-9857 in my car, I didn't own an iPod but after seeing this interface demonstrated I bought a new iPod just to go with the stereo. The system makes for a fast and comprehensive digital music solution in the car. The control and flexibility are outstanding and I love the way this gives me full ID3 tag info on the 9857's two line display. Alpine + iPod with this interface is awesome!

Duuuuddde!

Written By Healymonster, Pittsburgh, PA on Sunday, December 31, 2006

Now we're talking! Alpine KCE-422i cable and 2006 "full speed" capable receiver nails the "iPod-in-car" thing...Finally!!!

Control of iPod from dash is instant and complete. Track info scrolls past and you can show whatever you want (artist, album, song name...) Remembers its place when car shut off / restarted (that's key, think about it. You stop to get gas and now you've got to listen to the whole song again??? Lame). Not anymore! I have no problems navigating 300 artist (3600 tracks). But you have to narrow your search by artist / album or playlist to be practical (this isn't a limitation of Alpine, even on a computer you don't search for one song among thousands. Come on). But you can search by song if you want (hope I'm not driving behind you, though).

Too bad their initial offering was so limited and slow as to be useless. Cost of being on the cutting edge, I guess.

2nd times a charm, though...

Set It and Forget It.

Written By Branton, Wayne, NJ on Monday, June 11, 2007

This is the perfect. I have the Alpine CDA-9885. I have been extremely great. The songs load almost as quickly as if you were using the iPod itself and finding a song using the head unit is smart. It provides whatever information you could want right on the HU display, and on the CDA-9885 it's easy to read. You see the Song and Composer. This is a great product.

This is an excellent setup:
Head Unit:CDA-9883,
HD Tuner:TUA-T500HD
iPod Cable:KCE-422i

iPod Cable:
I went with Alpine components due to its reputation for having an excellent iPod interface using the High Speed Cable. The reputation is well deserved. The interface is easy to learn and navigate, it is easy to find the song you are looking for using the search functions and the percentage search feature. Routing the cable through the dash into the glove box worked great for my setup.
Overall: This setup works great.

This is the perfect in car solution for your Ipod. I have this working with the Alpine CDA-9885 and I have been extremely impressed.
