Must Have For Alpine Subwoofers

Written by: Anonymous from New York on October 27, 2015

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Much better looking than your normal sub grille. Gives your Alpine Type R or Type S sub a great finished look. I'll admit the price tag is a bit high for what you're getting, but this is a must have.

Pros: Decent Protection, Great Finished Look

Cons: Price

Solid product

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Ordered this grille so I would still be able to use the trunk in my s2000. After 2 months I am very pleased. However, I have one significant complaint. The mounting tabs break off easily while screwing them down. They are a cheap plastic piece that holds the grille down and if your not careful will bend next to the central shaft and break off. Price is a little on the high side

Pros: Looks great Easy install

Cons: Price Plastic retainers are easily broken

surprisingly sturdy

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Like the title say its sturdy. it does not bend that easily, but if it does it goes back to normal. Made out of a solid metal mesh that you could possibly spray paint for some one off look. I can fly things into it knowing that it will protect my sub from damage.

Pros: Solid and well built.

Cons: Kinda expensive for just a grill...

Quality Grille

Written by: Roy J from Georgia on March 22, 2015

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Seemed sort of expensive but considering it is for your Alpine sub the price is reasonable. Very strong construction and not some flimsy grille that flexes. My only issue is that the rubber beauty ring is not so easy to put on and stay on. Though that is not a major issue once everything is in place.

Quality subwoofer grille

Written by: Cody from Nevada on October 7, 2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I was looking for a subwoofer grille that wasn't flimsy or cheap looking so to speak. I stumbled across this Alpine subwoofer grille and liked the way it looked and hid the screws. I talked with Abe who was very helpful and placed my order. In a few short business days had the grille in hand.(thank you Crutchfield for the fast shipping!) Install was easy and straight forward, take out the old screws, put the plastic spacers in the correct side down, install the guard, reinstall screws, put on outside trim gasket, place appropriate Alpine logo on grille and clean up. Very happy with this product! Looks clean and protects the sub face from getting damaged.

Pros: Quality parts, spare spacers, new trim ring, good instructions, keeps the subwoofer face safe from objects. The mesh is very sturdy as well.

Cons: Only complaint is the trim ring that goes around the subwoofer to hide the screws is tricky to get sitting flush. After a few minutes I got it to sit flush

The grills for right over the original sub face and the screws fit perfectly for the thickness of my box and all else. I put it off for some time but I'm glad I got these to protect my subs. Order them If ya need them.

Pros: Sharp clean look. Fits perfectly.

Great piece that has saved my sub.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Works like its supposed to. Has saved my Type-R many times already from things moving around in my trunk. Tough grille takes it. Looks nice and clean after rubber surround is put in place. Becareful with the plastic spacers to make sure they are sitting flat before tightening screws though.

Pros: Great clean look as well as protects the sub well.

Cons: Plastic retainers can break easily if not flat when tightening screws

Expensive but so are type r's

Alpine KTE-12G

Written by: BrianT from Upstate NY on August 15, 2013

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I purchased this grill to replace a broken plastic Q-Logic grill that was included with the box. Q-Logic could not replace it due to its age. This grill fit my SWR-1242D sub perfectly. It is high quality and looks great. I had no issues with the plastic stand-offs using appropriate torque on the screw driver. The provided screws were the same as the original screws only longer so no extra wear and tear on the MDF when installing them.

Pros: Strong steel grill Look great- Badge is a nice touch Easy to install in a few minutes

Cons: none

Nice but not a perfect fit

Written by: Mr Tom from Ohio on August 1, 2013

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

It did not fit perfectly but it looks very nice. You can only tell when I pop my trunk that it is not all the way on. I dont know why it doesn't fit right, I tried for about 1 hour to get it to fit and then i just gave up on it. The instruction are very simple and kinda like "here is a diagram, figure it out " type of instructions. I have the Alpine SWS-12D4 so maybe this grille is just a universal grill so maybe that is why it doesn't fit properly. Either way it still looks very sharp but once again not perfect.

Pros: Very protective, Clean sharp look

Cons: Fit

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Works with alpine type-e as someone previously stated, although they are being phased out sadly, just picked up a pair for my younger brother and they look great, same hammr surrounds my last gen type-r's had These grilles are very easy to mount over existing sub, just use the correct mounting hardware as there is two different grips, one for type r and the other for type s / type e (does not say it fits, but it does) be careful though as I managed to crack teh side off one grip out of the 16 (2 grilles, 8 plastic pieces each), it works fine with one partially broken, but the other side was still intact can't wait, getting a pair for my type-r's, they look fantastic

Pros: Mounting hardware works well and effectively, easy to install on sub

Cons: Bit Pricey, wish it came with subs, do not tighten hard with drill, I cracked 1 plastic mounting hardware out of 2 grilles

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Covers worked great. Easy to install and very sturdy. I can wack these covers with my hand and everything is left undamaged. Subs and the cover. I would recommend these to anyone looking to protect your subs while also trying to have a nice slick look. The type r and s emblem that comes with the grill gives it a great touch! Well worth the money.

Pros: Looks great and I don't have to worry about my subs being scratched anymore.

Cons: If you are super tight on room they might come out a little too much.

Perfect grille

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Well the Type E subs used to come with grilles, they no longer do. These do fit the new Type Es. The badges are easily left off so they look like the previous mesh grille. You have to use the Type S mounting hardware as they are the same structurally as the Type E. would be nice to have a type E badge with it. All in all a quality product again from Alpine.

Pros: Fits all 12" Alpine subs with HAMR surround.

Cons: No type E badge

Grill should come with the sub!!!!

Written by: Casper from Florida on July 1, 2012

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I give it 3 cause its a pain to mount, and price I think it should come with the subs .Like the Type E .I mount my subs with t nuts 1/4 20's so I had to down size them to fit the grill.Come on alpine toss them in with the subs !!!!!!!!

Pros: Will protect your sub and everyone will know its a type r with the included badge

Cons: Price and mounting without using their include wood screws witch is a bad idea for MDF if you plan on pulling your sub for tuning ect.
