Alpine's MRD-M1005 amplifier is a monster mono machine, ready to deliver the big watts to your subs. My system has plenty of power. Who needs an amp?
You might think you don't need an amp because you have a 400-watt system in your car, or because your new stereo puts out 50 watts a channel. But those are peak wattage ratings, which may boil down to 15 or 20 watts per channel, using the more realistic RMS rating. An amp sends your speakers the power they need to deliver your music with clarity and impact, whether you're using factory speakers or high-performance components. And low-frequency reproduction requires lots of power, so an amp is an absolute must if you're adding a sub to your system.

Clean digital power. Had it running two 10" Rockford Fosgate subs at 4 ohms. It's ten years old & dull going strong!
Pros: Super powerful. Digital. Very little distortion.
Cons: Removing the face plate. Too many Allen wrenches needed. Weight is 14 lbs.
best amp i've had
had this amp forever i've never had anything go wrong with it. i have a 15 mtx tr75 at 2 ohms in a t-line maize box and its amazing. couldnt have asked for a better amp. never seen the fans go on. had it checked and it runs a little over 1000w at 2ohms with 14.4v. not a fan of the cover thing i've never had it on i keep it off.
Pros: looks cool. performs great. easy to use
Cons: i've had subs hook up to it and i cant get the volume up because it shut the amp off because it cant except the power.
Just fried it after years of being careful
This doesnt make me very happy. I bought this high-dollar hunk of metal in march of 2007. I NEVER even pushed this amp anywhere near its potential. Gain settings were always conservative. This thing just mysteriously decided to blow up now 5 years later....Mind you I have two of them, one I bought on ebay and one on crutchfield. Guess which one of the two broke? The one from crutchfield! I dont abuse my equipment so this is really disheartening. I thought crutchfield sold better stuff then this...apparently not.
Pros: Seemed powerful, neat design, looked nice
Cons: Gain settings are rediculous, tricky to insert power wire, wierd feedback at times, just broke after years of delicate handling.
This amp is amazing. I had it hooked up to a 10" type x for a year until that blew out (jumper fell out while it was booming and 1000w from this puppy went through a single coil) and now I'm getting a 13w7 because alpine subs really suck. Anyway, I have been in some extremely hot weather and this amp has reached temps over 120F and I have never even seen the fans go on. I bought this thing WITHOUT the cover so obviously you don't need it. It's a hassle anyway.
Best amp in the world
I have owned alot of amps but this one has to be the best it never overheats and has put out 1000 watts of power since i bought it new in 2005. It was a bit pricie but it is worth every penny. I scored a 155 with 2 12in rs its that good.
Great Quality - Sleek Design - Cable control using headunit
I have had this amp since April 2005 when I got back from Iraq. It is a great amp for powering 2 Alpine type R 12" subs (Duel 2 Ohm Voice Coils 1222) or even my upgrade for space 1 Alpine Type X 12" (Duel 4 Ohm Voice Coil - 1000 Watts RMS - 3000 Watts Peak). I saw someone list it powering 1 type R Subwoofer and that sub is probably dead now since this amp is 700 + RMS and 1 Type R = 500 RMS 1500 PEAK. I know the peak on mine was tested at 1088 Watts and that is less than max but ya still dont want to kill the Sub with that much power at RMS. That is why Alpine lists it with 2 type Rs or 1 Type X as I have listed.
Well back to the subject. I also have had heating issues with this amp but thats after blasting it for over an hour and a 1 Farad Capacitor. With a larger capacitor you will regulate the power better in which will cause less heat issues. I just recently purchased a 100 Farad Carbon Capacitor. And all is working much better and it is pushing alot more power out at RMS etc. Capacitor shows a minimum of 14.2 Volts output while running so is almost at Peak Power Constantly. I also run the interface wire for the amp to my 9855 headunit and I can change everything without unscreweing the hex screws which is great.
All and all I would suggest this amp to anyone. I havent had any issues with mine and I ordered it when it just came out.

I got this amp for a 12w7, and I couldn't have picked a better amp. This is the first time I have ever had to turn down a system. Good clean POWER from a fairly small sized amp. Great job by Alpine, and great price from Crutchfield.

I purchased this amp as an addition to another brand amp. The amp works smoothly and runs very cool. The controls are very easy to use, although you need to remove the cover to access (bad design). Once you get the amp dialed in you can bolt the cover on and forget it. The cover SHOULD NOT be left off as stated by another reviewer (the cover is part of the heat sink design!) Remeber that overheating = lost power and distortion! The only down side I found with installing this amp is all the cable entries are all on one side. This can be difficult when space is tight or all your other amps run lengthwise entries on each end. The only functional problem I've found is that the amplifier is about 150 degrees out of phase. This can prove fatal when mixing with other brands as I did. I was lucky enough to get away with just a polarity reversal at the speaker output rather than making or purchasing a phase correction filter. Overall I give the amp 4 stars for function, quality, and lower price. I would purchase another M1005 if I was looking for another sub amp.
Great bang for the buck
I picked up the MDR-M1005 and a kicker L7 12" for my fifth major audio system upgrade to my 2001 Porsche Boxster S.
My previous monoblock amp was the MRD M500.
+++ Runs surprisingly cool relative to high power output.
+++ Power to size ratio also good. I dont have a lot of space.
++ Performance per dollar is good.
++ Amp user interface is improved over previous models, there is enough info on the display so that you can set everything without having to refer back to the user manual.
+ Basic features you might want, LPF, subsonic, even choice in slope.
--- Unlike the M500, this amp does not have an amperage readout. You'll need some test equipment to tune and monitor the power output of this amp.
-- I don't like having to unscrew the cover to get to the controls. I might just leave it off. I don't see how that will be a problem.
- User manual is too terse.
This amp + the L7 12" provide all the bass I can handle in a sports car. I dont have an SPL meter, but at full volume its enough to make vehicle occupants physically ill ;-> Its impressive from 30 ft away even though the Boxster is a pretty bad car for projecting bass.
L7 12" is installed in a custom sealed box 1.0 cuft, passenger footwell running in 4Ohm configuration.
I have this amp powering an Alpine Type-X 12, and it does an excellent job. I opened the box, hooked it up, adjusted the settings, and haven't touched it since. No problems whatsoever and the LCD screen makes messing with the settings very easy. This amp pushes out over 1000w and makes my Type-X bump like you wouldn't believe. Puts out a nice clean signal. I would recommend this to anyone who is running Alpine subs. Seems like Alpine stuff goes together very well (I've also got a full Alpine component system in my car) and it sounds excellent. Careful though, if your sub can't handle the power this baby pushes out it might blow your sub!
This amp hits
I have had this amp for over a year now and I have not had a single problem with it. I have not had any over heating, the fans never even come on. I am using a Alpine 9833 head unit and driving a 15" Cerwin Vega vega-series sub. The sub takes 500 watts RMS which is perfect for the amp at 4 ohms. Try using atleast 8-gauge power wire and speaker wire. Do not set the gain too high to get sound volume, set it as the manual says. I had to turn down the inside speaker signal to very low to get the sub as loud as I wanted it, then crank up the deck volume. Either that or get a equalizer/ lp filter with a signal boost. This thing hits so hard I cant see thru the rearview mirror, and engine RPMs jumps up and down even with a 1 farad cap.

This is amp is okay in which I thought would be much better. I had so many problems with this amp in which the fuse keeps blowing out and the amp wont function after that. I had this amp replaced twice already for the same problem. Overall this amp has power, but comes along with many problems
nice amp but it has a problem overheating. im running 3 12" JL subs. yes i no amp dosent have enough power for 3. but ny ways on my friends subs the amp still overheated it just took longer about 45-50min of straight running it. there are much better amps than this. i would prob say its not worth the money too expensive but whatever.

WOW this is really kicks!! it has over 1044watts RMS true power that will rock anything. I have this amp pushin my new L7 kicker an it looks like i can add a second sub! only if i had more room!! :-(
I have this amp hooked up to a 1242d alpine type R in my single cab f-150 . The sub is in a sealed 1.00 cubic foot box and that hits so hard its unbelievably hard. i installed everything myself and nothing went wrong. the digital screen is very convienant and makes it easy to change the sound. when i turn up the volume the back windowooks like its about to break, and the roof is shaking like a mother.I would recomend this product to anyone who is willing to spend the money because its worth it.
My friend Gabe was looking for a really powerful amplifier for his new Kiker L7 and I had refered him to look into an Alpine, since all my components were Alpine except my amp. He looked into this amplifier and bought it; when he rolled his car and toatled it out, I asked him if the amp survived, and it had only two scratches, however his sub did not survive the rollover and crash landing, so I bought the amp. I have had it for almost three months and have had only one problem with it and that is my factory audio fuse block had to be upgraded from a 16 gauge wire to a 12 gauge wire system, after ho much this amp went through and to only have that one problem is astonishing. I reccommend any and all Alpine components to anyone who reads this.

V12 AccuClass-D Mono Amplifier: The V12 AccuClass-D amplifier design delivers massive power without correspondingly huge current draw. This amplifier's true digital design keeps the signal purer and makes the amp extremely efficient (approximately 80%). V12 AccuClass-D amps use digital signal processing to adjust input gain, crossover point, and Bass EQ, all controlled using the Alpine Digital Control Center located under the top-mounted access panel.
Hood: The amplifier has a hinged brushed aluminum hood that flips up to reveal the control panel and LCD display. The control panel consists of three buttons: Mode, Up (>), and Down (<). These buttons are used to navigate the menu which includes all the adjustments on the amp. When closed, the LCD display is visible through the plastic window. Two Allen-head screws secure the hood.
Display: The MRD-M1005 features a blue backlit display that allows you to monitor the DC input voltage and the internal temperature (Fahrenheit or Celsius). The display is also used when adjusting the Amp ID, input gain, crossover point, and bass EQ.
Verification Certificate: The amplifier comes with a certificate that specifies the measured total RMS output of the particular amplifier. It lists the model number, serial number, test date, and the test conditions (voltage, impedance).
Bass EQ: A bass boost is available at 45 Hz. The boost level is adjustable from 0 to 16 dB in 2 dB steps.
Built-in Variable Crossover: The built-in low-pass crossover is adjustable from 30 to 200Hz with 13 settings (30, 38, 45, 53, 60, 72, 85, 95, 110, 125, 140, 170, and 200 Hz). The slope is switchable, 12dB/octave or 24dB/octave.
Subsonic Filter: The subsonic filter is used to remove low frequencies that you cannot hear but can "rob" power from the amplifier. The crossover point is switchable between 15Hz and 30Hz with a slope of 24dB/octave. The subsonic filter can also be turned off.
Multi-Amp Installation: Because the above Bass Engine adjustments are all digital and discrete, two of these amplifiers can be used to power the two voice coils of a DVC woofer. Note: Technically this is true of any amp, but with analog adjustments an oscilloscope is needed to ensure the outputs are identical.
3-Way Protection Circuitry: This amplifier has a 3-way protection circuitry to guard against damage from undesired conditions. It includes protection for Short circuit (excessive current), Over-voltage, and Thermal overload. When the amplifier goes into protection mode, the LCD display shows an Error code explaining the cause of the failure.
Remote (turn-on): The remote terminal is a set screw terminal that will accept up to 8 gauge wire. A 2.5mm Allen wrench is included to tighten/loosen the set screws.
Speaker Output: The speaker terminals are set-screw terminals that will accept up to 8 gauge wire. The same 2.5mm Allen wrench is used for this terminal.
RCA Input/Output: The amplifier includes gold-plated RCA line input jacks and gold-plated RCA line output jacks, there is no speaker-level input.
Amplifier Link: The amp has a female DIN jack for connection to a 2005 or newer receiver with Amplifier Link controls. The Amp Link feature on the new amplifiers is not backward compatible with pre 2005 receivers. An Alpine KCE-511M cable is needed to connect the amp to a compatible receiver. Up to 8 Amp Link compatible amplifiers can be controlled by the receiver using KWE-061M "Y" adapters.
CEA-2006 Compliance: The specifications given by Alpine for the MRD-M1005 amplifier comply with the new CEA-2006 Amplifier Power Standard from the CEA (Consumer Electronics Association). All manufacturers who comply with the standard can display the CEA-2006 logo on their product.
