Our take on the Alpine MRV-F450

Let Alpine's 5-channel MRV-F450 V12 series amplifier deliver the juice to your entire speaker system. It provides 4-channel amplification to your main speakers, while a fifth channel drives your subwoofers.

The unstoppable power of this Alpine V12 Series amp comes from the massive transformers and fast MOSFET power supplies. Extra-large capacitors deliver additional current when needed to fuel musical peaks. The amps are built using Alpine's STAR Topology design to greatly reduce internal noise, keeping the signal clean so that your speakers can perform better.

The internal Bass Engine® provides built-in crossovers for adjusting the amplified frequencies. The subwoofer channel also has a subsonic filter and Bass EQ, which lets you tune the low frequencies for optimum effect in your vehicle. The top-mounted controls are conveniently hidden and protected by a flip-up top cover. Likewise, your cables are concealed under the front cover, which can be removed to save space.

    Specifications

    Features

V12 Amplifier: This amplifier is part of Alpine's V12 series of amplifiers.

STAR Topology: Alpine's unique STAR (Signal Transit for Accurate Response) Circuit PCB design provides a single common ground for all amp sub-blocks, preventing ground interference and minimizing internal noise.

Bass Engine: Bass Engine is a set of functions that help provide you with more control over your system in order to tailor the sound to your personal tastes.

Verification Certificate: The amplifier comes with a certificate that informs you of the per channel RMS output of the particular amplifier. It lists the model number, serial number, test date, and the test conditions (voltage, impedance).

Built-in Variable Electronic Crossover: The built-in low-pass/high-pass crossover for the stereo channels is adjustable from 50Hz to 200Hz. The built-in low-pass crossover for the subwoofer channel is adjustable from 30Hz to 200Hz.  All crossovers have a slope of 12dB/octave.

Bass EQ: 0 to 12dB of bass boost, centered at 50Hz, may be dialed-in to produce the bass response desired from your system.

Sub-sonic Filter: The sub-sonic filter is used to filter out low frequencies that you cannot hear but can "rob" power from the amplifier. The sub-sonic filter on this amplifier affects the subwoofer channel only, and selectable between "30Hz", "15Hz", and "OFF".

Protection Circuitry: The protection circuitry guards against accidents and undesired operation. Included are Over-voltage and Thermal overload.

    Controls

Top of Amplifier: The amplifier has a metal hood that flips up to reveal the control panel. The control panel consists of the following controls:

    • Front, rear, and sub variable gain controls: these rotary controls allow you to match the input sensitivity of the amp to the particular source unit you are using
    • Front and rear channel frequency controls: these rotary controls allow you to adjust the crossover frequency from 50Hz to 200Hz
    • Sub channel frequency control: this rotary control allows you to adjust the crossover frequency from 30Hz to 200Hz
    • Crossover mode selector switches: lets you select high-pass, low-pass, or full-range operation for the speaker outputs of channels 1/2 & 3/4
    • Subsonic filter: lets you select between 30Hz, 15Hz, or OFF
    • Bass EQ: this rotary control allows you to adjust the boost or cut from 0 to 12dB
    • Input channel selector switch: Allows you to select between 4-channel, 5-channel, and summed input options

    Inputs and Outputs

    Front of Amplifier:

    • Battery (+12 V): 0.332" wide gold-plated, collared set-screw terminal that will accept up to 8-gauge wire
    • Remote (turn-on): 0.332" wide gold-plated, collared screw terminal that will accept up to 8-gauge speaker wire
    • GND (ground): 0.332" wide gold-plated screw terminal that will accept up to 8-gauge speaker wire
    • Speaker Output: 0.332" wide gold-plated, collared set screw terminals for all channels
    • RCA Inputs: three sets of gold-plated RCA line input jacks

    Specifications

RMS Power Rating (measured at 14.4V):

    • Per Channel Into a 4-Ohm Load: 50 watts x 4, + 200 watts x 1
    • Per Channel Into a 2-Ohm Load: 60 watts x 4
    • Bridged Into a 4-ohm Load: 120 watts x 2

RMS Power Rating (measured at 12.0V):

    • Per Channel Into a 4-Ohm Load: 30 watts x 4, + 150 watts x 1
    • Per Channel Into a 2-Ohm Load: 40 watts x 4
    • Bridged Into a 4-ohm Load: 80 watts x 2

Note: Minimum impedance for channels 1-4 is 2-ohms stereo. Minimum impedance for the mono channel is 4-ohms.

    Great AMP!

Written By Mark P, Pelham, NH on Friday, July 08, 2011

I have been into car audio since before I had my first car. I have switched this amp between three vehicles now. I have owned it for seven years, it still sounds great! I started out with Type R components, now it drives type X 6.5"Reference series. I only used the fifth channel in the first Tahoe it was in, then I switched to a dedicated sub amp but.. the four channels are great!! It sounds amazing in my Escalade. I do run a kenwood deck, I just purchased a new 995 from Crutchfield. If you have a chance to pick up a used one, BUY IT!!! THEY LAST FOREVER!

    Apline Makes It Punch

Written By Michael, Maricopa, Arizona on Saturday, October 01, 2005

I installed this amp, with an apline CDA-9847 - infinity reference 6 1/2 componets in my 2005 Dodge Ram Quad Cab. I mounted the amp under the drivers seat. It fits perfect. I am running all 5 channels and wow! I am running 2 10" Kicker subs under the rear seat. This amp is the pefect match! Runs everything perfect. I love this amp! Best amp in the world. Looks way better then pictures show.

    BIG BAG FOR THE BUCKS

Written By KORPE, CHATTANOOGA, TN on Friday, March 25, 2005

I JUST BOUGHT A 2002 NISSAN ALTIMA WITH THE STOCK SYSTEM AND CHANGED IT ALL TO NON-STOCK, I'VE GOT A ALPINE HEAD UNIT, MB QUARTS 6-1/2", BOSTONS 6X9'S AND (1) 12" JL AUDIO SUB. MAN, WHO WHOULD HAVE THOUGHT THAT MUCH POWER IN A AMP COULD PUSH SO MUCH SOUND. CRISP AND CLEAR.

    Great value and flexibility!

Written By Russell, Sarasota, FL on Monday, March 07, 2005

I own a Camaro so I had limited space to mount multiple amps. I have this amp running 2 sets of Infinity Kappa components and a pair of Kicker 8" subs in a custom box and I have to say, it's sounds much better than I expected! I will recommend using a lightning cap with it as it does draw a lot of current. No background noise at all, plenty of power for all the speakers, and classy looks make this a winner.

    Alpine MRV-F450

Written By Matt, Tallahassee, Fl on Friday, February 18, 2005

Not a bad amp, it gets the job done. It's good if you're looking to have a nice sound system but don't want multiple amps or lack the space. I have mine powering a pair of 6x9s, 6&1/2 components, and a 12" sub. The sound is great, and for the money, it's a good deal.
