Compact powerhouse

Alpine makes it a little easier to get great bass in your vehicle, especially if you drive a compact car. Their V-Power Series MRV-M250 mono subwoofer amplifier sends up to 250 watts RMS to your sub, guaranteeing some strong bass on your drive. And Alpine made this amp so small — about the size of an outstretched hand and just over 2" tall — it can fit almost anywhere.

Thermal protection without annoying shut-downs

The MRV-M250 uses a technology called Enhanced Shutdown Performance, which rolls back the output a bit when the amp threatens to overheat from playing at its limits too long. Instead of shutting down completely, it continues playing your music, until it cools enough to return to full power.

Convenient features

A low-pass filter puts you in command of the frequencies that reach your sub, while a bass boost lets you apply plenty of low-end punch. The amp includes preamp- and speaker-level inputs, so you can install it in almost any vehicle, even one with a factory radio. If you're using the speaker-level inputs, the amp senses an incoming signal and turns itself on, eliminating the need to run a turn-on wire run back to your vehicle's receiver or fusebox. You can control the volume of your MRV-M250 from the front seat with the optional RUX-KNOB.2 remote bass controller.

Features

CEA-2006 Compliant: CEA-2006 is a system of testing and measurement methods for mobile audio amplifiers. This voluntary standard advocates a uniform method for measuring an amplifier's RMS power output and signal-to-noise ratio. The criteria for measuring power uses a DC input voltage of 14.4 volts and the RMS power output is measured with 1% or less Total Harmonic Distortion plus noise (THD+N) over a frequency range of 20 Hz to 20 kHz (for full range amplifiers). Signal-to-Noise ratio is measured in weighted absolute decibels (dBA) at a reference of 1 watt into 4Ω. CEA-2006 allows consumers to compare car amplifiers and receivers on an equal basis. Using CEA-2006 criteria, the Alpine MRV-M250 is rated as follows:

  • Power Output:
    • 4Ω: 150 watts x 1-channel (<0.2% THD+N)
    • 2Ω: 250 watts x 1-channel (<0.3% THD+N)
  • Signal to Noise Ratio: 85 dBA (105 dB at rated power)

Speaker Level Input: A speaker level input harness is included, making it easier to add the amplifier to a factory radio or to a receiver with no preamp outputs. The 8-pin harness has inputs for front and rear speakers. While only two speaker inputs are necessary, wiring all four will minimize the fader's effect on the subwoofer output.

Auto Turn-on: If using the speaker level input, an automatic circuit turns the amplifier on when it senses an input signal.

Low Pass Filter: The amp is equipped with a 50-400Hz variable low-pass filter with a slope of 24 dB/octave. This being a mono subwoofer amp, the crossover is always engaged.

Bass EQ: The Bass EQ circuit provides a variable boost (0-12dB) at 50 Hz.

Wired Remote: An RJ-25 jack is provided for connecting an optional RUX-KNOB wired remote (item number 500RUXKNOB, sold separately), allowing remote control of the output level of the amplifier.

Connections:

  • Battery: screw terminal; accepts spade connectors or ring terminals up to 0.35" wide
  • Remote: screw terminal; accepts spade connectors or ring terminals up to 0.35" wide
  • GND (ground): screw terminal; accepts spade connectors or ring terminals up to 0.35" wide
  • Speaker Output: screw terminal; accepts spade connectors or ring terminals up to 0.35" wide
  • Line Inputs: 1 pair of stereo RCA jacks
  • Speaker Level Input: Molex plug input for supplied 8-pin harness
  • Wired Remote: RJ-25 jack for optional wired remote

Note: Alpine recommends 8 gauge power and ground wire (minimum).

Customer Q&A

Q
Can this amp power a 12" alpine bass line sub with a max RMS power capacity of 350w and peak power capacity of 1000w?

A
That amp is only doing 250 watts at 2 ohm. You might consider the Alpine S-A60M which does 600 watts at 2 ohms and 400 watts at 4 ohms https://www.crutchfield.com/p_500SA60M/I-rET1c290/Alpine-S-A60M.html?tp=35834

This amp is rated at 250 watts @ 2 ohms, the birth sheet averages 290 watts. This amp is not 1ohm stable. It would power your subwoofer but no where near it's capacity. Check the ohms of your subwoofer and buy an amp closer to the specs of your subwoofer.

Q
If I use the RCA inputs and not the Speaker Level inputs will it still automatically turn on?
andrew  Sep 04, 2019

A
No. Speaker level inputs only. If you are running RCAs might as well run a remote wire with them.
james  Sep 04, 2019
A
Regardless of which input you use, you have to hook up the amp turn on wire connection.
bryan  Sep 04, 2019
A
As long as your "remote" wire, which if I recall is the blue wire, is hooked up then you will not have any issues with the amp turning on regardless of which inputs you use.
james  Sep 04, 2019
A
Please check your head unit for the conditions listed below: (Fig. 5) a. The head unit does not have a remote turn-on or power antenna lead. b. The head unit's power antenna lead is activated only when the radio is on (turns off in the tape or CD Mode). c. The head unit's power antenna lead is logic level output (+) 5V, negative trigger (grounding type), or cannot sustain (+) 12V when connected to other equipment in addition to the vehicle's power antenna. If any of the above conditions exist, the remote turn-on lead of your MRV-M250 must be connected to a switched power source (ignition) in the vehicle. Be sure to use a 3A fuse as close as possible to this ignition tap. Using this connection method, the MRV-M250 will turn on and stay on as long as the ignition switch is onEnter an answer to this question.

Q
Can I connect 4ga power/ground to terminals?
rafael  Apr 17, 2019

A
Not directly- 8 gauge max size is the max. Guess you could with an adapter or trimming the wire, but that size wire would be way overkill unless the run was extremely long.
richard a  Apr 20, 2019
A
I don't think you could make that happen. A 4ga ring terminal would probably be too wide and I barely got 8ga bare stuffed in there on mine. I recommend connecting your 4ga to a fused power distribution block then a short run of 8ga from there to the amp. Just leave the fuses out of the connections you are not using yet. If you have not already run 4ga and do not plan on adding amps later 8ga is more than enough to power this little guy.

If I used the automatic turn-on, what is the standby current draw? I want to make sure it won't pull too much from the battery.

Q
How do I determine how many Ohms this amp is outputting? Is it a wiring issue? On pictures I seen of this amp, there is no switch for Ohms? If I want to use this amp for 250W @ 2 Ohms, How would I do that? Thanks...

this is a mono amp. you would not use it for door speakers, you would use it for a subwoofer. look at 2 channel amps.
