More convenient features

A low-pass filter puts you in command of the frequency spectrum that reaches your sub. The amp includes preamp- and speaker-level inputs, so you can install it in almost any vehicle, even one with a factory radio. When using the speaker-level inputs, the amp can sense the incoming signal and turn itself on, eliminating the need to run a separate turn-on wire to the receiver or fuse box.

Features

CTA-2006 Compliant: CTA-2006 is a system of testing and measurement for mobile audio amplifiers. This voluntary standard advocates a uniform method for measuring an amplifier's RMS power output and signal-to-noise ratio. The criteria for measuring amplifier power uses a DC input voltage of 14.4 volts and the RMS power output is measured over a frequency range of 20 Hz to 20 kHz (for full range amplifiers), with 1% or less Total Harmonic Distortion plus noise (THD+N). Signal-to-Noise ratio is measured in weighted absolute decibels (dBA) at a reference of 1 watt into 4 ohms. CTA-2006 standards allow consumers to compare car amplifiers and receivers under the same conditions (apples to apples).

CTA-2006 Specifications:

  • Power Output: 330 watts RMS x 1 into 4Ω
  • Signal to Noise Ratio: 85 dBA (measured at 1 watt into 4Ω)

Other Specifications:

  • Power Output (2Ω): 600 watts RMS x 1 @14.4 volts
  • Power Output (1Ω): 600 watts RMS x 1 @14.4 volts
  • Signal to Noise Ratio: 105 dB (at rated power output, 4Ω)
Controls

Gain Control: Use the rotary gain control to match the input signal voltage. The amp will accept line level signals from 0.2 volts to 4.0 volts or speaker level signals from 0.5 volts to 10 volts.

Turn-On Type/Input Level: A 3-way switch lets you select both the amp activation method and the input signal type. Choices include:

  • DC/HI: Used when running speaker-level inputs and using DC offset to trigger the amp.
  • REM/HI: Used when running speaker-level inputs, but using a +12V trigger wire (REM) to activate the amp.
  • REM/LO: Used when running RCA pre-amp signals into the amp and connecting a +12V trigger wire (REM) to activate the amp.

Crossover: The low pass crossover is always engaged (it cannot be bypassed). The crossover point is adjustable from 50 Hz to 400 Hz and the slope is 24 dB/octave.

Bass EQ: The amplifier has a variable Bass EQ circuit (Bass Boost) that raises the level of the amplifier output at 50 Hz from 0 dB to +12 dB.

Optional Remote Control: The amplifier has an RJ-25 jack for adding the optional RUX-KNOB.2 wired remote bass level control. The remote has a 20 dB adjustment range (-20 dB to 0 dB relative to the gain setting).

Connections

Power/Ground: Two set-screw terminals connect the power and ground cables. The terminals accept up to 4-gauge wire (a 4-gauge wiring kit is recommended - sold separately). The set screws are tightened/loosened with the included 2mm Allen wrench.

Remote Turn-on: The remote turn-on set screw terminal will accept up to 8-gauge wire. The set screw is tightened/loosened with the included 2.5mm Allen wrench.

Speaker Outputs: The one pair of set-screw terminals will accept up to 8-gauge wire. The set screws are tightened/loosened with the included 2mm Allen wrench.

Signal Input: The stereo RCA jacks connect to line level or speaker level input signals. If connecting the source unit's speaker wire to the input jacks, use a Speaker-to-RCA adapter or splice speaker wire to an RCA plug.

Pre-Outs: Two RCA output jacks can be used to pass the input signals back out to additional amplifiers. The output signals are unaffected by the amplifier's settings.

Fuses: Two 30-amp ATO fuses protect the amplifier. Another fuse (60-amp minimum) should be placed on the +12V power wire within 18" of the battery.

Customer Q&A

Q
What is the difference between this and the previous generation model of this amp, s-a60m?
zak  Jan 13, 2024
1 answer
A
Internal build quality has been updated on the S2 version, Zak. This Alpine S2-A60M is 1-ohm stable and has a stronger amplifier internally than the S-A60M which can drive a minimum impedance of 2-ohms. Alpine has also improved the speaker-level inputs which are capable of a maximum of 10-volts on the S2 variant. Alpine has kept the price low, so the S2-A60M presents an incredible value!

Q
when i get a phone call thru my vehicle , it sounds like im in a tunnel?
aron  Jan 05, 2024
1 answer
A
That is a Bluetooth feature issue and would not be related in any way to the Alpine S2-A60M amplifier, Aron. This is usually due to your phone's microphone staying active at the same time as the Bluetooth microphone, using both at the same time and causing Echo. If you are using a factory radio, check your phones settings. If you are using an aftermarket radio with Apple Carplay or Android Auto features, you can also check your phone's settings and if the problem persists consider a firmware update if your radio supports it. I hope this helps!

Q
Can I run the four factory installed speaker , and have full range of control. Balance and Fade?
micheal  Jun 16, 2023

A
Greetings, and thank you for your question. This Alpine amplifier is a mono subwoofer amplifier, its a single channel. What you would need for 4 speakers with balance and fade is a 4 channel amplifier.
